I don't see anyone else pointing this out: Red Five is a T-65B X-Wing, listed on Wookieepedia as being 13.4M. The T-70 X-Wing, flown by Poe Dameron in Episode 7-9, is listed as ~12.5M.

  • @iainstruthers3559
    @iainstruthers3559 Před rokem +2

A way around the plaque sticker placement issue is to provide a brick built jig. I was pleased to learn a jig like this is provided with modern smartphone screen protectors making it foolproof to locate the protector over the phone. It means that the IMO horrible looking injection point can be hidden, and Lego fans can enjoy perfect placement every time. I’m sure some clever bods could knock this up using 3D printer. A set of (stud?) holes in the sticker sheet would be ideal to locate the sheet in the right position for sticker placement onto the plaque piece.

  • @BetterWithKinect

You just sent me down a small rabbit hole at 1:17 .
So In 1997, there was a "Star Wars: Behind The Magic" interactive CD-ROM that had a TON of behind the scenes goodies, starship specs being one of those goodies. On that CD, it's said that a T-65b X-Wing is 12.5m long.
However, in the more recently published (and considered canon) Hayne's "Rebel Starfighters Owners' Workshop Manual", it is stated that a T-65b X-wing is 13.4m long.
So according to Legends, the T65b X-wing is 12.5m long, and according to Canon it's 13.4m long.

building this now and I find the side panels you have to click in place are very easy to come off because of the I dont know what to call them but they split the two halves and make the move slightly. When I was ready to put the nose on I found these parts come off all the time, also they could have made it that you could put the mini figure in the cockpit but you can't doesnt fit with the canopy shut.Doesnt really join up together well with gaps not lining up but apart from that it's alright!😉

My problem is that we had so many X-Wing ships through the years, and LEGO still hasn't made the fuselage accurate. Let me explain.
If you watched the movies, you will notice that the fuselage has an inclination that follows closely, if not fully, the angle of the cockpit's windshield. That offers a more aerodynamic look to it. All of the sets made by LEGO however have always had the fuselage fully horizontally with maybe an additional plaque in the later iterations possibly to give the illusion of an angle. I can understand the original models being like this, but now LEGO has evolved so much over the years, I think it shouldn't be impossible for them to make this angle.

I probably won't get this because I don't see myself having $240 to drop on a Lego set any time soon, but this is definitely the most appealing UCS set to me that's currently available for under $300. It honestly doesn't even seem like a bad value for how big and well-designed it is. $200 would be better, but when I first saw the pictures, I was expecting it to be much more than it is.

I'm not done with mine yet, but the wings are "locked" with a rubber band setup... Maybe the weight of the wings will lessen the effect, but it seems like that would be an easy fix by doubling up the rubber bands?

They should have used an actual Technic mechanism for the s-foils instead of the mostly brick built one. It might have made them less flimsy. As it is they open too far, and don't close all the way as they should. Makes it feel cheap, I think.

Thanks Thiago for being impartial even when Lego has sent you for free the set for review. Honestly...it looks kinda boring and It doesn't look great for a UCS model. The front area looks really weird, the back area looks exposed and not "displayable". When you put the set in "attack mode" It looks flimsy and needs to be displayed horizontally in order to not bend the wing more than the standard position by gravity, so it seems like It will not be possible to display It in other positions. And the stickers, the plate with that hole, not giving at least the R2D2 big head like that UCS Obi Wan Starfighter...IDK It looks like they didn't put a lot of effort to create this set, specially for a UCS set released during the Maythe4th days.

i saw a ton of reviews of this set yet i didn't see a single person putting Luke inside the x-wing to see how it looks like :(

7:33 indeed, i dont belive it .... considering that competing companies can produce new forms and large prints for half the price ....

It sucks that they're on the third iteration but still have huge compromises. Floppy wings that don't close aren't worth the price.

The X-Wing is 12.5 meters long in universe, which means that the plaque is a bit off :/

Just checked, the T-70 is 12.48, that must be where the confusion came from at one point

@@maxcorrice9499 there is the T-65 which is 12.48m and the T-65B which is 13.4m. They look very similar but are two different models which is probably where the confusion came from. The primary model used by the rebels was the T-65B, which is on the plaque in smaller letters. The T-70 was used by the resistance

Completely agree with you, not a fan of this model... The nose is the wrong colour and not correctly connected to the side triangles, it's missing the landing gear (not acceptable on a UCS model), the size of the engines is quite huge even though correct, but still looking funny from the top view. And the s foil mechanism... Man it's awful! Wiggly, unstable, doesn't lock in place, wings don't close shut one to the other... It would require some modifying and getting more pieces to adjust it... But I don't think it's worth it, considering the starting price so high
