Oh! Before I forget, about the scene where Light mentions to himself that he needs to get rid of L, after the friend thing. I believe it's similar to the one of the first moments where Light and Misa meet, where there's a hint showing that Light could develop feelings back but then he checks himself. I believe the friend thing could have gotten to Light and he wants to get rid of L because the two really are forming a bond, which would distract him in his true goals. Not saying they see each other as traditional friends, but definitely like minds, rivals, and kindred spirits. Well, maybe friends indeed, in their own weird way.
hey Lighdasher! sorry for taking so long to get back to you! so I remember reading your comment - but I just never got around to responding and forgot to come back. but someone left a comment on today's video that reminded me of your comment - specifically what you said about Misa. I didn't understand what you were referring to - but you're saying that in the manga he almost falls for her. I didn't remember that - and it's definitely not something that's alluded to in the anime (at least not in any part I've covered yet - maybe it happens in part two?) but, yeah - that's actually really interesting; I wish I had known that before I made today's video because I would have liked to include this comment - specifically the "I believe the friend thing could have gotten to Light and he wants to get rid of L because the two really are forming a bond, which would distract him in his true goals." because you actually made a really good argument for how Light might have been feeling. so, imma go ahead and pin this to the top of my video for visibility! anyway, thanks again for watching and commenting - always a pleasure seeing you pop up in the comment section!
@@overanalyzinganime in the manga when Misa is explaining how the Shinigami's eyes work Light praises her, in turn she looks up to him and they have a weird "romantic moment" and then he thinks "I cant cach feelings for her, thats how most idiots screw up"
That probably exactly what it was meant to play as. This was the most complex case L has ever and probably would ever deal with. He’s convinced he has his man but in no way can prove it. As for light, he was a bored high schooler that sat above most in most things, especially intelligence. Now that he has the ability to mold the world it seems fitting that deep down he’d want a rival. Someone to make it difficult and therefore justify it in his mind. In that moment he probably realized it too but at the same time was like “damn he is good enough to catch me tho if I fuck up even a little” and it worried him.
The impression I got was about how Light’s saddened by how anticlimactic it all was going to be. He works so hard and then it’s just is going to be all over because he simply asked Rem to kill L. “That’s all it took.”
How interesting! I’m currently writing the script for the next episode and that was my thought exactly. “And now he has the ability to do it - with basically no effort on his part at all. And part of me thinks that’s what has him so thrown right now; the fact that this wasn’t really earned. He’s been engaged in this intense back and forth with L for the better part of a year and now, all of a sudden, he’s going to win because he asked someone to do it for him? It just feels cheap; and I think he recognizes that, which is what’s causing him to zone out.”
@@overanalyzinganime Well months I think; I don't know the timeline yet. On that note; Film Theory did a video on the estimated death toll in the series.
@@zachberry4742 I also think Ryuzaki hold a special place. We'll have many instances of Light being pissed about Near and Mello cause he consider they aren't worthy of being L's successors or compared to him. His respect for L is off limit , and i assume that respect is what makes Light being dissapointed there to find a so easy option to get rid of him.
L says that Light is his friend is to get into his head as admitted by the creator. But on some level, I think L does think of Kira/Light as someone who is his equal. He gets severely depressed later on when Kira loses his memories and becomes Light. He misses the cat and mouse tit for tat. And only enjoys himself and Lights company when light once again becomes Kira. Think of it like Wile E Cyote and Road Runner dynamic or even Tom and Jerry. Their friendship revolves around the thrill of the chase
Yeah L is absolutely a fan of having met someone who he really feels like is equal to him, even though knowing to some degree that Light probably is Kira.
@@overanalyzinganimeThere is a small error in this. Ryuk was freaked out by Ray Pamber following him, but he seemingly didn't care about Mogi, but I don't know.
You’re the first person to comment on that aspect of the video! I was always curious about what people thought about me doing that - so I’m glad to know you think it’s cool, Silver!
I've noticed something about Light's eyes when L commented on their "friendship", its the same sort of oval shape- similar to his eyes when he relinquishes ownership of the death note and was innocent again. It also the same shape of eye as to when Rem agrees to kill L. I'm not sure if this is just the art style or intentional but Light usually has angular, harsh eyes with them being widened when surprised but not soft/oval shaped. Or maybe I'm reaching idk
No, I thought the same thing, even when watching the show. I think it might have something to do with being directly confronted with love/friendship and the sort of part of humanity that he simply doesn't understand, latter of which I'd argue is a big theme in the story.
"Misa this is not a game. You need to focus on what´s important and no, I am not talking about whether or not he wants to f...k you, cause, spoiler alert, he does, just not in the way you´re hoping for" this line had me laughing on the floor ^^ excellent!
This is literally peak content from such a small and unnoticed CZcamsr, I hope you do get the notoriety and appreciation you deserve in the future, I can tell just from watching episode 1 to now that you completely switched up the outlook and humor in the later videos and made them even better, instead of just explaining, your voice is comforting and I can literally replay these videos for eternity as a way to pass time, thank you for now being one of my favorite series on CZcams!
Damn, thank-you so much for those compliments, Scarface! I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the videos! I really hope I can keep pushing out quality stuff for y’all for years to come!
@@overanalyzinganime Yes. I've seen a couple analysis of L where he is quite similar to Light when it comes to morality (not as immoral as Light, but willing to sacrifice people) and intelligence. I forgot what was the reasoning as to why but maybe we'll see in later videos.
@unknownentity5354 right on the money, I've seen alot of comparisons between who is smarter but thematically and logically they seem to be of equal intellect. Not to mention that they relate to each others boredom
I think L said Light was his friend to get a reaction from him, that's been L's goal in meeting Light this entire time. As for Light gaining L's trust, it can be seen in the same way to some degree, after all L made it clear that it was also reasonable to have Light on the investigation for assistance in moving it forward if it turned out he wasn't Kira.
In regards to the first friend line I don't think that L was actually looking to test or manipulate Light in anyway. I say this in large part because L and the series tend to make it pretty obvious when he is doing so. L usually communicates he is testing Light by being extremely confrontational to provoke a reaction from him. The series communicates it usually be some shift in the tone either by using a change in color palette or score. Neither are really present in that scene. What I do think is present is Ls tendency to talk to Light as if he were Kira and as if he weren't Kira simultaneously. What I think it comes down to is something L said while lecturing to the children of Whammys House in the Death Note One Shot. He simply enjoys solving difficult cases. With the Kira case he has managed to find a case that is not only paranormal in its scope but he has also found an adversary that is able to challenge him intellectually If we assume that L is talking to Light in his usual double speak then he is saying to Light "I don't want you to be Kira because it means eventually I would capture you, the case would be over and I will have lost my intellectual equal." In my particular reading of the series L and Light could never be friends because they enjoy being enemies.
I think they could be friends in another universe, however they'd be competing detectives, vying to one-up the other constantly. However, in this universe, they can never be friends because Light is a killer in Ls eyes.
I wouldn't be surprised if L was genuine, I believe he'll follow justice through to the end, but I also believe if light hadn't been kira, the two of them would have had an amazing friendship, hell, even a rivalry
So I want to start this off by saying, these videos have been great to listen to so far and I think they’re a nice alternative insight into the series that I love. I’m saying that I wanna engage in conversation about some of the points you made and give my understanding and maybe help clear up a bit. So at about 17:59 Light is talking about how Ryuzaki wouldn’t put someone in place to die for him. The reason I believe he says that is because he’s looking directly at L, he knows that if he sent that message and Ryuzaki put a stand in that it would accomplish nothing, it’s like playing a move that gives you no value. I believe the way he says it “Ryuzaki wouldn’t have someone die in his place” isn’t because he thinks that. But because that’s what Light Yagami son of Soichiro Yagami would say, he mentioned in episode 8? (When they first met) that he admires him and thinks he’s amazing because his father is a police officer. He’s just playing that role, that’s my interpretation at least. As for the second part, when Ryuzaki tells Light “You’re the first friend I ever had” I feel is a mix of multiple things, 1.) He believes Light as a true friend just because they are similar in so many ways. 2.) He wants to see how Light Reacts. And 3.) he’s manipulating his feelings for his own benefit. If you read one of the Data books (I think it’s called Death note how to read) there’s a section that says something about that statement where L actually thinks of Light as like a horrible person and almost hates him. Though in a non-canon (and arguably out of character Ryuzaki) Novel “L change the world” he’s wearing the watch that Light has, and he tells someone in the story that “it belonged to my dearest friend” while this isn’t canon and could be ignored I like the idea that they both developed a love hate relationship that sadly only ended in one way. And finally, at the end of the video there’s a mention of Lights face of disbelief and shock when Rem says she’ll kill Ryuzaki. I have two idea for this, and it’s that A.) He’s upset because it’s his friend (less likely) or B.) His pride is shot, HE wants to kill Ryuzaki, HE wants the challenge, HE needs to do this or that, and Rem just says “Yeah easy peasy” Light has had a challenging and difficult time getting this close and far and Rem can do it so easily and his pride is hurt. Among other things I’m sure, but I’ve rambled l long enough haha
I love Sayu too, she's one of my favorites in the show! Though I also love Misa, but for many different reasons and that's still more complicated because she's an impulsive and thoughtless murderer.
For L's friend comment, I think it's true that it's basically to see how Light reacts, and Light's reaction is to basically encourage L to come out in the open IMMEDIATELY AFTER L determines the 2 Kira's have met. It's one of the only times Light doesn't seem to realize L is testing him - because what happens as soon as L and Light meet in public? Exactly, all of THAT is being set up NOW. Mochi is for sure reporting to L everyone Light interacts with. L is for sure comparing the evidence they have with every newish person in Lights life (so being so close to Light is probably the only reason Misa herself even gets caught). That said, while it's been confirmed L hates Light, there's a bit of a grain of truth in that he finds the challenge fun, maybe that grain of truth made Light think he was telling the truth - which, ya, shock. For Light's shock at Rems comment, I think he's just genuinely surprised that play worked, that it could be that easy. That was probably step one of like a 20 step process in his head that he no longer needs to bother with🤣
I'm 110% convinced L meant that he found Light as a friend. When L saw that Light was indeed Kira, he looked...sad. It emanates the sense of "I was right, but I didn't want to be"
I agree. Ohba can’t agree with his own text for crying out loud. L isn’t emotionless and antisocial in my interpretation of the series. In fact, I think it’s his feelings for Light as a friend that made his death so damn sad. Without it, what would the point of all that dramatic, gut-wrenching symbolism be? It would be too cheesy for what it’s worth if L didn’t care about Light at all.
I resonate with L in a lot of ways. I would chalk it up to being a sentimental person, someone whose faith in others is hard-earned but eternal. I think Ryuzaki was honest when he said he really doesn’t want Light to be Kira, because deep down he sees the best in people. Light is the shadow-self, completely consumed by his righteous Egoism, as Carl Jung called it… And when their conflict finally ends, it’s Ryuzaki’s resolve to die for the right cause after confronting the most impossible challenge of his life, a truly insurmountable opponent. This resolve comes from his strong moral convictions-light is 10,000 years away from moral conviction at this point. Only L can see that his “convictions” are a hollow blackness, and perhaps he has a mission in futility. It’s extra saddening to him that his own stubborn arrogance and greatest cultivations can’t truly match the great evil in a human’s heart. Finally remember how he emphasized that he was truly the loser of this battle from the moment he decided to confront Light in person.
19:34 it was a clap back for light's message during some before episode. Light said "I'll make him trust me and i'll kill him" something along with that line and this is the big brain adaptability of L and knowing his exact thoughts in the moment. he clapped Light in that words he knows he's pretending and most of it is He's Kira. This scene needs alot of Body language observations and how L speaks. Pure genius Move!
When I hear L call him a friend, I think it’s a jab at Kira, the fact that light wants to get close to him to kill him, knowing who L really is would probably be to his advantage because L’s only defense against Light would be to keep secrets to himself. he’s been close to the chest about who he actually is from the world and it would certainly be a great defense against someone who needs a name and a face to kill who is under constant suspicion. So basically L is secretly telling Light that he isn’t impressed, seeing right through his tactic… hitting the sociopath right in the face with such a simple statement that everyone else would see as a wholesome moment.
I wonder if the reason light looks so shocked after hearing Rem say she’ll take care or L is because he’s piecing together the facts he’s learned in this episode. The fact that if L was supposed to be the reason for light’s death (i.e getting caught and likely sentenced to death) that would make Rem die because she’s extended light’s life beyond it’s intended length. In turn that could only mean 1 of 2 things. First would be that L is never going to catch light or at least be the cause of his death and Rem is ok to kill him. Second would be that Rem is willing to sacrifice her life to save light in turn making Misa happy. Curious as to your thoughts tho in case there is a flaw in that possibility. Also love this series you’re doing, keep it up!!!
I've wondered about that too. I think Rem would be ok, because technically the rule is that they have to kill with the express purpose of extending a human's life. There are probably a lot of people that ended up living longer as a side effect of somebody else being killed by a Shinigami. The reason Light and Misa both gave to Rem is that getting rid of L would make Light love Misa more. There's no rule against using the death note in order to make a human happy. It's still uncertain enough at this point what killing L would do for Light. It might end up lengthening his lifespan, but it could just as easily be merely removing an annoyance for him. It wouldn't matter to Misa though, because she'd be just as happy either way, and at this point L isn't a threat to her life. I think Rem would be fine as long as she ignores what this could possibly mean for Light and concentrates on the fact that she's only doing this to please Misa.
So about the "How to use it". If the cause of death of the victim would cause others to die, it defaults to a heart attack. But what happens if the heart attack would cause others to die? Like killing the pilot and copilot of an airplane mid flight. Would every passenger miraculously survive the crash?
The Collateral Damage rule is more about something like this; "Dies from a nuclear bomb going off in the middle of a city." The circumstances of the death cannot be written in a way that would enable the user to circumvent the need for the name and face of the victim. In the case of your airplane example; The death would happen in a way that would not affect others. For example, the auto-pilot is turned on, and there's a staff member on board who can follow Flight Control's instructions to land the other passenger safely. Circumstances would be nudged into play just enough to avoid collateral damage happening directly because of the death of the pilots, although what happens in the aftermath is not set in stone.
@@ZenzeroSans my idea was that the criminal was used to kill the parents but that would be dependent on how the deaths were written, because the criminal would’ve probably been written as well to make it happen, which should make it impossible for light to have killed him
I just binged all 14 of these episodes and am loving this. youve brought up so many points that i never noticed or realized while watching the show several times. Keep up the good work my dude
i subscribed after seeing the first two episodes and then there weren’t many more after that, then a while ago you started uploading again and i’ve caught up on your series. man, i can see the rise in production, and the difference of quality before and after your hiatus is amazing. i’m glad i subscribed, i can see you starting to grow through each episode in production of your videos. keep it up 👏
Oh shit! You’re one of the OG subscribers? That’s awesome! I’m glad you stuck around and have been enjoying them! The production had definitely improved since those first videos, for sure; here’s hoping I can continue to improve in the months and years to come! Thanks so much for sticking around, Arkham!
Idk if anyone has mentioned this, but I find Misa's basically obsessive stalker behavior incredibly ironic considering what almost killed her the first time. It's like she's showing the dichotomy of that obsessive fan from both sides, albeit not equally. You'll kill and be killed for being that obsessive over someone
You know who came off like the BIGGEST imbecile in the interaction between Amane Misa & Yagami Light? Yagami Light himself, and for 2 reasons: 1) He casually stated that he'd date other girls to appear "less suspicious". - and - 2) He foolishly THREATENED Amane Misa in FRONT of her Shinigami, Rem, who understandably put Yagami "The Fool" Light in his place, reminding him that he's only mortal in the end, and the one he has to fear isn't Misa, but her. Good job, Light. Good job on making an enemy out of Rem. Haha
He was indeed trying to get in lights head talking about “ friend” because it truth he finds light 90% Kira also he is disgusted by light like absolutely hate the guy there’s no possible way he thought of him as a friend
As Light putted on his own words "he's (she's) a liability!" Misa caused huge trouble for him that he became a "prime suspect" & was sent in confinement all cuz "the only reason I've to go through all this trouble is cuz you brought another DN to the human world."
Jamel, that’s *wild* to read, honestly. I’m really glad you’re enjoying them - and to think that I’m your favorite right now is… I don’t know. Reading stuff like that makes me wish I could post more often. Super glad your enjoying the videos though, for real!
i think the friend comment and lights feelings about it afterwards are more of a realization from both of them that they both respect each other as enemies and can respect one another despite the conflict they have
Its been a couple years since I rewatched the series, but I think L said that because he genuinely wanted Light to be his friend and mentor him in his detective ways, because he sees him like a little brother with a lot of potential - similar to Near.
Because in that moment, L is admitting he cares for light. And he does mean it. I always felt this is why he left light for near and mellow. As logical as L is, he would have considered his jusgement compromised by personal feelings.
L actually meant it when he said Light was the closest friend he's ever had. The dude is by far smarter than anyone around him. It's gotta be hard to relate to normal human beings. But Light is someone with similar mental capacity. For the first time ever, L has the closest thing he's ever had to an equal. Light is someone who understands the same loneliness and detachment that L does, and it's something we see from Light all the way back in the first episode, before he found the Death Note. Boredom. Boredom with the world, and with his place in it. Combined with both the drive and the means to seek justice. The two of them work so well, because the two of them are the same, deep down. If they weren't enemies, they'd DEFINITELY be friends.
On one hand, really not a fan of Google (and companies like it) listening in on everything - but, on the other hand, it brought you to me, soooooo. Lol. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed enough to subscribe! Happy to have ya here!
L calling Light his “friend” is just him mocking him by throwing Lights intention to befriend L (his goal after L humiliated him after the reveal) in order to kill him, back to his face. L never had friends and certainly would never befriend Kira. “I’d sure hate for you to be Kira. You know, since we’re ‘friends’ and all 🙂”
You ranting at Misa and being so exasperated with her is ME every scene she's in. I love her, I think she's so badass and iconic but she makes me so genuinely furious. I'm Rem basically. I love her but I also want to choke her out every time she speaks because MISA CHILL THE FUCK OUT HAVE SOME DIGNITY MY LOVE.
REM is able to remind Light *EXACTLY* who and what he’s fucking around with! Ryuk is impassive and bored, ultimately he wants to see what happens next so Light is able to get away with A LOT MORE than he should be able to. REM makes Light go “oh yeah, these are thing and they are FUCKING TERRIFYING!”
I just came across this channel last night, i was listening while i played Animal Crossing...that part is not relevant...i am really enjoying your analysis of the episodes. Also i love how Light's entire demeanor changes with Rem. Like within seconds of meeting Ryuk his demeanor became far more chill, yet its the opposite with Rem. He seems legitemately scared of her, i know later he has plans to deal with her but he always at least heeds her warnings in a way he never would with Ryuk and i love that. (Its one of the reasons that Rem is my second favourite character in the show/manga after L himself.)
The friend thing seems to me to be more about having an equal. Think about it, if you don't see someone as your peer, can you really consider them a friend as opposed to somebody you're friendly with? Ryuzaki is saying he found a peer, and would like to keep that peer in his life. For Light, the pause and then agitation comes first from realizing he feels the same, and then from trying to suppress that as he attempts to convince himself that he has no peers.
19:30 I always tought L really meant it despite being sure that Light is Kira. L enjoys the challenge and solving cases for fun. And Light has been the biggest rival he's ever had and the closest person that keeps up with him intelectually, thus the biggest fun L's ever had. So I think in a weird way, he might've meant it. People will tell you that the autor already confirmed this was a lie. But that would apply to the manga, not the anime. The anime clearly has his own interpretation and keeps their relationship more ambiguous. And in this scene specifically, both manga and anime are clearly different. While in the manga it seemed pretty obvious that L was lying as he looked sarcastic as fuck, the anime clearly had another intention with L looking much more focused saying that with the emotional music at the background.
At the end we see Ryuks POV of light which is not all red like you speculated previously about Shinigami eyes. That means that Misa is not colorblind to everything but the color red
I don't remember if it was this video or another one since I've been binging these but you mentioned wondering whether or not Misa would have been unsuperficial enough to fall for Kira no matter what they look like. I think she would have been just as devoted to Kira as she is in the show regardless of what they looked like because the fundamental reason for her obsession, the death of her parents, is still the same. But also, because her obsession is so strong, I think she would have fallen for Kira as long as they were a dude close to her age who wasn't straight up ugly and maybe even if they were. Light makes it easy to love him, at least at first, but her obsession was so strong that it probably would have happened with anyone, it would just taken longer.
On whether or not Rem would die as a result of avenging Misa's death rather than saving it: remember it was implied that the entire rule was inferred by Rem based on what happened to the shinigami who saved Misa, and isn't officially known by most shinigami. She might just not know if the same would apply to a situation where she kills on behalf of a doomed or already dead human, as this has not been tested to her knowledge. It makes sense that it might though, since presumably the reason for this rule to exist in the first place is to prevent the shinigami's personal feelings for humans influencing their killings (since they are probably intended to be impartial).
Someone said it’s possible that the Shinigami’s eternal penitence is only able to be ended by a purely selfless act. So maybe they’re trapped souls because of the evil they committed and may only be freed after ultimate sacrifices. We don’t really know if Father Yagami will be a Shinigami as stated in the rulebook-since some rules could be written as exaggeration or mistranslations. Of course it’s standardized in english and that rule wasn’t written by Ryuk, but still-all matters of the Shinigami realm are beyond any real comprehension.
@@SolDizZo That's an interesting idea. One question it would raise is whether or not the original plan for Rem to kill L would have resulted in her death, since she was doing it entirely against her own wishes to please Misa.
Rem couldn't even kill light because of that one rule on the death note that states Only a Shinigami that has passed on its Death Note to a human is able to kill the owner of the Death Note
According to Ohba, L despises all humans and only respects Watari. He also hates Light Yagami and sees him as a threat to his reign. So, he was trying to emotionally manipulate him by calling him friend, that he is his equal. Light respects L as a rival but still hates him for opposing his vigilante justice. L also states that he's a psychopathic monster that lies and that he would probably be eaten by someone like him, referring to Light Yagami. “It’s Not A Sense Of Justice. Figuring Out Difficult Cases Is My Hobby…” - L Lawliet Full Quote: “…If you measured good and evil deeds by current laws, I would be responsible for many crimes. […] I only take on cases that pique my interest. It’s not justice at all. And if it means being able to clear a case, I don’t play fair…” This quote definitely contradicts some of L’s previous statements. When he “confronted” Kira for the first time early in the narrative when they both said “I am Justice!”, he obviously thought that what he did was standing for justice. Later, when he met the members of the Japanese Task Force face-to-face for the first time, he said that “Justice will prevail”. So, later he just forgot about all that? Forgot about his strong sense of justice? Except maybe he didn’t; maybe he never actually cared about having justice win to begin with. www.cbr.com/death-note-best-memorable-quotes-anime/amp/
12:11 I'm sorry but like i just love how rem and ryuk (literally just realized they both names beinging with r hmm.) Both of them just look at the door like the cops just pulled up on a mafia trade like oh sh-. Made funnier by them being invisible
Thanks, Yun Celluz! I see you in the comments pretty frequently and I just wanna say thanks for being so involved in the community! I hope I can keep you entertained for months and years to come, bro!
i believe that the first, ' light in aw', moment with L was because L wasn't referring to light. This felt, to me, like a turning point, like how light got the death note and used it for the first time, but there's a difference. In those instances, light was shown to be having clear emotions, disbelief, fear, anger, here though, he is just shocked, even confused. The 'friends' point is more of rivals, like batman and joker. Lights shock is when he realises the impact L has, that L not only still views light as Kira, but also as a rival, to be played with like a friend. He isn't taking him seriously, that's why he was so pissed. But when rim said she would kill L and his shocked view came on, I believe that was when he realized how much he needed L. The publicity for one was stroking his ego, but it also gave him a goal, something to do, victories to be earned. When he was starting out, as a 'god', he just aimlessly wrote names, now he thinks about it, its no longer about god, its about a stance. Rim killing L removes that, detaches light, because what is he suppose to do? kill for a few months, maybe a year, then what? there aren't that many murderers and criminals with the pace he's taking. In conclusion, he's having a reality crisis, he doesn't know his place and L knows this, sees this, and so has placed himself into that crisis to divert it into his own direction.
The friend comment has a different meaning in Japanese. Its a equal, also means that L is getting ‘close’ to L. And that has several meanings in this case.
11:33 There's another thing that bugs me about this that I've never seen anyone bring up: Since shinigami take the remaining lifespan of the people they kill, that means the life expectancy they see is only given they're not killed with a desth note. That means if Rem prevents Light from killing Misa with the death note, she would not be increasing her lifespan.
@Salvador Luna It doesn't, because like I said, Rem wouldn't be increasing Misa's lifespan, as a human's lifespan is only given that they're not killed by the death note. For example, Misa could have 40 years left to live and Light could still kill her right now if it's with the death note. If Rem stops light from doing so, those 40 years won't increase.
14:27 I think what light meant is that he would manipulate a criminal to force Rem to react, kind of like how he forced Raye Penber to react with the bus jacking. But Light himself admitted that Rem would see through that ploy with her shinigami eyes. I'm just not sure if Rem's death note could overwrite Light's if she wrote for a quicker death.
she couldn't because "When the same name is written on more than two Death Notes, the note which was first filled in will take effect, regardless of the time of death."
It’s all about anticipation. It’s the Art of War. How can Light comprehend how well Rem will be able to observe him, even from far away? Maybe she senses lethal intent, or other energies that are generally off limits for humans.
8:08 i wanted to add that it's also obvious that L still didn't trust Light because in the episode before this, he (L) told Matsuda to keep tabs on Light when they went to Aoyama. someone else pointed out that the creator even confirmed that later on when L tells Light that they're "friends" that L was just saying that to get a reaction out of Light and throw him off. with all that, i don't think L ever trusted Light, not even for a second. homie was still skeptical of Light even after Light had lost his memories of being Kira, which in a sense made Light "innocent" for the time being.
In my happy delusional world L said that Light was his friend because he considers him a friend and now they’re best buddies and nothing hurts ever, but in reality it was probably to get som kind of reaction out of Light, or to make him overthink it as he is prone to doing
How about we chalk that up to Lind L. Taylor being a death row inmate scheduled to die that hour. How to read L: He hates Light. I don’t know why he said that, but it’s definitely not genuine. Light’s just really surprised that it only took that request to “seal” L’s fate.
Did you notice that when L says that he thinks that light is the first true friend he's ever had his pupils are visibly bigger. This is known as pupils dilating and pupils dilate in dim environments to allow more light in, I'm sure you can analyse that part. Also they dilate when a person experiences romantic or sexual attraction which could be a nod to suggest L having the hits for light (I definitely don't think he did but it could be a way of suggesting or hinting that he does). I'm not sure if this was in purpose or just a coincidence, it did always strike me as weird though, how big l's eyes were in that scene because they were never drawn like that any other time
This talk of how kill a Shinigami, not specific to this episode but more later, I find the way Rem dies very unlogical. I can understand if preventing a death extends the life of the shinigami, and they aren't allowed to undo what was fated, but when Rem saves Misa, she wasn't preventing something that was pre-fated and thus not preventing a fated time.
I don’t think L was fucking with Light when L considered him a friend. L knows that Kira falls enough in to antisocial to be either a psychopath or a sociopath. Such an emotional move wouldn’t illicit an emotional response and be waisted. Light could even respond with “Yeah, no offense but this is just a job. Once Kira is caught, I got other shit to do” and NOT be a homicidal maniac. I think L is honest because he’s found an intellectual equal… who will also accept his… weirdness while also challenging him to not be too weird.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Also, It’s gonna be a little bit of a longer wait. I made a community post about it, but I won’t be posting again until the 20th.
"This is the first time I've been provoked to hit a woman." Light Yagami the guy who subjected Naomi Misora to Psychic Assisted Suicide and wants to subject Misa to use-and-dispose
I always interpreted L's saying that as what he really felt. I know what it feels like to not have any friends because you're different, and it just makes sense to me if L meant what he said then. Of course, there was definitely an aspect of trying to get into lights head involved, but I think its also just the truth of how L feels.
19:20 i think ryuzaki probably meant either he could see light as a friend if he wasnt kira, or respects and fights likeness in light in himself. If ryuzaki believes him to be kira which in the manga its clarified in the manga, when L said hes 5% sure Kiras in the two households its actually 95%, and that any similar percentage he gives out is a lie and is really the inverse of what he says. by this point hes said 1% about light, meaning hes really 99% sure, they both are competing, so it seems more like a friendship based on rivalry and near equal mental capacity. it reads so much different when you know that fact about the percentages. showing that ryuzaki was almost completely sure from the start, aand light actively intended for him to close in.
I think L was saying hes a real friend, since he hadn't ever really had much of an intellectual equal to bounce ideas off of. He also kind of viewed Light as a rival, the greatest hunt type of thing. So later when Light kind of shows he doesn't have to play by the rules, L is depressed and gets more upset.
~19:33, I think the author confirmed L didn't mean that and that it was just an other of his strategies, but I'm not sure... it's been a while since I saw that information lol
I think L said it cuz if Kira 2 made contact wth Kira 1(and he thinks Light might be kira) he must have thought that getting closer to light might get him to get both kiras at once
I think whenever L says that “he’s his real first friend” you have to understand he doesn’t have any and doesn’t know what it’s like. So from his perspective I think he means it from his definition of friend which is probably along the lines of “Someone he has fun with.” So I think he actually meant it. But him having fun with him can branch off into 10 different reasons of why he’s having fun with him.
After this point in the story L basically knows for a FACT that Light is Kira. The only problem he has is that he can't prove it. L often speaks in inverses saying "There is only a 5 percent chance Light is Kira" when they've narrowed it down so far makes no sense. He lies to the task force mainly because the suspect is the chief's son and just out right accusing him with almost no evidence would just push them away and he needs this help. When L calls him his friend he is basically telling him "I know it's you" and Light picks up on that and finally realizes he's backed into a corner and can't deny it to L so he confirms by saying I feel the same way basically translates to "You're damn right I am". But I also feel like him saying it is kind of like saying "This is a fun game we are playing" So in away he does mean it. This is such a huge moment for the both of them because from here on out they are having entirely different conversations in front of everyone. From here on it's going to be L setting traps DIRECTLY to him and Light needing to avoid them. There is no longer any doubt in L's mind after this that Light is Kira. It's why Light gets so desperate after this asking Rem to kill L for him. He is shocked because she agreed but his look gives off a level of 'disappointment'. Her agreeing to it is evidenced he lost. It's evidence he was out witted and need to resort to the supernatural in order to beat him and why in the next episode he's so happy that Misa meets L directly because that means he wins without needing to ask Rem.
I don’t think it’s just light, but it’s completely within his character. He wants to feel pride in his win. To win so cheaply isn’t much of a high.
I love the way you phrase it as “when Kira loses his memories and becomes light”
@@damonedrington3453 it’s essentially the Batman Theory. Who is Batman? Is it Bruce Wayne being Batman or the other way around.
Yeah L is absolutely a fan of having met someone who he really feels like is equal to him, even though knowing to some degree that Light probably is Kira.
That Mogi find is top notch. I always wondered why Light wouldn’t recognise him or notice a task member following him!
Yo! Thanks! To be fair, I also missed it every time up until this most recent watch through.
@@overanalyzinganimeThere is a small error in this. Ryuk was freaked out by Ray Pamber following him, but he seemingly didn't care about Mogi, but I don't know.
I love how you always show scenes of characters talking while you talk
You’re the first person to comment on that aspect of the video! I was always curious about what people thought about me doing that - so I’m glad to know you think it’s cool, Silver!
@@overanalyzinganime oh, thats crazy! it sometimes kinda feels like a parody like SAO Abridged (a dub), so thats really cool :D
@@overanalyzinganime yeah keep it up! It’s a super fun detail
I also like this detail I’ve noticed since you started lol
Lmao. I can’t lie, that’s definitely my favorite moment in that video. 😂😂😂
I think the part about Light being L's friends is more so that L is calling him an equal
Hmm. That’s an interesting take. You’re saying that he’s calling Light his equal, even though he thinks he’s Kira?
@@overanalyzinganime Yes. I've seen a couple analysis of L where he is quite similar to Light when it comes to morality (not as immoral as Light, but willing to sacrifice people) and intelligence. I forgot what was the reasoning as to why but maybe we'll see in later videos.
@unknownentity5354 right on the money, I've seen alot of comparisons between who is smarter but thematically and logically they seem to be of equal intellect. Not to mention that they relate to each others boredom
"a friend? hes your friend, thats a good thing right? :)"
"ive got to eliminate him immediately"
"oh, i see :("
I adore how every time you laugh at some dumb shit that happened you play the Ryuk scene after Light finds outs Naomi's name. It gets me every time.
In the second japanese live-action film (Last Name) Misa didnt react so well when Light made it clear his father would have to go.
I wouldn't be surprised if L was genuine, I believe he'll follow justice through to the end, but I also believe if light hadn't been kira, the two of them would have had an amazing friendship, hell, even a rivalry
The whole thing with "Light - Knight" is a wordplay. Japanese just love stuff like these. Raito - Naito heehee very funny :))))
Another worth while video
Yoooo! I’m glad you liked the video!
6:43 this had me almost spitting out my drink
Lmao. It’s honestly my favorite part of the video, NGL.
I love Sayu too, she's one of my favorites in the show! Though I also love Misa, but for many different reasons and that's still more complicated because she's an impulsive and thoughtless murderer.
Peak content man!! Appreciate the hard work you put into these videos. Thank you 🙏
Thank-you so much for the compliment! Can’t wait to make more for y’all!
That was probably step one of like a 20 step process in his head that he no longer needs to bother with🤣
Man I hope you do more anime after this. AMAZING SERIES. Love the work please keep it up it’s all phenomenal
Yoooo, thanks, Mike! I definitely plan on continuing with some other series after this one!
Bro, your vids make me laugh so much. I love death note a lot, but some of the stuff your saying is just hilarious
Lmao. I’m glad you’re enjoying them!
Light is the shadow-self, completely consumed by his righteous Egoism, as Carl Jung called it…
And when their conflict finally ends, it’s Ryuzaki’s resolve to die for the right cause after confronting the most impossible challenge of his life, a truly insurmountable opponent.
Now that is a good question
The Collateral Damage rule is more about something like this; "Dies from a nuclear bomb going off in the middle of a city."
The circumstances of the death cannot be written in a way that would enable the user to circumvent the need for the name and face of the victim.
L was stated to not have any friends so saying Light was his friend was a test
I agree with you - that seems like the most likely thing!
These videos are so well edited and narrated that I’m shocked you aren’t bigger
I think the most messed up thing about Misa is that it was probably that one shinigami that purposely killed Misa’s parents to isolate her
Misa's parents were killed by a criminal. Kira (possibly a Shinigami) killed said criminal.
@@ZenzeroSans my idea was that the criminal was used to kill the parents but that would be dependent on how the deaths were written, because the criminal would’ve probably been written as well to make it happen, which should make it impossible for light to have killed him
@@t.b.cont. Okay

Don't entirely know why, but in the midst of the episode when it shows a death note rule, I love it when you say "welcome back to 'how to use it'".
Yagami Light himself, and for 2 reasons:
1) He casually stated that he'd date other girls to appear "less suspicious". Haha
Unless he can predict the future, I would not consider it foolish.

I definitely will! I hope y’all keep enjoying them, too!
Hey, OA! I've been waiting for this one; it just popped into my recommended and I got so excited lol
Great way to start the year :)
I really hope you enjoyed it! Cheers to a new year, Wert!

L calling Light his “friend” is just him mocking him by throwing Lights intention to befriend L (his goal after L humiliated him after the reveal) in order to kill him, back to his face. L never had friends and certainly would never befriend Kira.
“I’d sure hate for you to be Kira. You know, since we’re ‘friends’ and all 🙂”
Gelus ain't the only simp for Misa.
Thanks for the upload, you’re a God yo
no he isn't
no problem, Angelo! but, no - I'm not a God - that's Kira. lol. jk.

I always tought L really meant it despite being sure that Light is Kira.
Ah, that’s a good point, Sabeen. I didn’t even think about that. Thanks for pointing that out!
Light makes it easy to love him, at least at first, but her obsession was so strong that it probably would have happened with anyone, it would just taken longer.
these vids amazing bro
Yooo! Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying them!
Interesting analysis series, I'll need to look into these videos more, especially if I rewatch the series
Defintley! Maybe by then the series will be done and you'll have your pick of videos to watch.
Figuring Out Difficult Cases Is My Hobby…” - L Lawliet
Full Quote: “…If you measured good and evil deeds by current laws, I would be responsible for many crimes. […] I only take on cases that pique my interest. It’s not justice at all. And if it means being able to clear a case, I don’t play fair…”
This quote definitely contradicts some of L’s previous statements.

I definitely will, Daniel!
12:11 I'm sorry but like i just love how rem and ryuk (literally just realized they both names beinging with r hmm.) Both of them just look at the door like the cops just pulled up on a mafia trade like oh sh-. Made funnier by them being invisible
Great drop G 💯

@Salvador Luna But why would Rem die if she's not increasing Misa's lifespan? That's what the rule is about.
I'm not sure if this was in purpose or just a coincidence, it did always strike me as weird though, how big l's eyes were in that scene because they were never drawn like that any other time
i love rem so much
I remember hearing it confirmed that L could never truly consider anyone a friend because humans are too cunning or something like that
This talk of how kill a Shinigami, not specific to this episode but more later, I find the way Rem dies very unlogical.
I think L is honest because he’s found an intellectual equal… who will also accept his… weirdness while also challenging him to not be too weird.
can't wait for next episode
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Also, It’s gonna be a little bit of a longer wait. I made a community post about it, but I won’t be posting again until the 20th.
"This is the first time I've been provoked to hit a woman." Light Yagami the guy who subjected Naomi Misora to Psychic Assisted Suicide and wants to subject Misa to use-and-dispose
underrated channel
Thanks!
Damn, someone should really think about stopping this Kira person.
I know, right?? Lmao.
IMO this whole exchange is based somewhat on Perfect Blue
misa being an idol, and the shinigami somewhat resembling the stalker from the movie.
great video
thank-you!
It's evidence he was out witted and need to resort to the supernatural in order to beat him and why in the next episode he's so happy that Misa meets L directly because that means he wins without needing to ask Rem.
yay!
i read that in Misa's voice
Ay! I got Kira in the comments section! Lol.
@@overanalyzinganime Haha. I actually got into deathnote because someone told me I had the same name as the killer.
