- A running theory in the Death Note community is that Light Yagami became a shinigami after his time as Kira. So it made me wonder... Are all shinigami including Ryuk former Death Note Users who used to be human?

I like that the anime was made in 2006 and ppl still make content and theories about it to this day
It's s really good series. Almost on par with Season 1 Tokyo Ghoul or the whole TG Manga
I'm sure it will be remembered for a long time.
It’s an amazing anime and deserves all the love it gets shout out to the author

It’s true when ryuk told light that he’s like a shinigami he’s foreshadowing that he’s probably gonna turn into one
Yes! And in I believe the second opening you see light in what looks like the Shinigami realm 🥰
I bet "Human Ryuk" used it just for fun or to see what happens after death 💀
I feel like that’s what half of us would do too if we ever got the death note
That makes a lot of sense. Because shinigami don't reproduce and considering all the shinigami out there with unknown origin, this could be a logical conclusion. Beside, the walking pattern of that unnamed shinigami was like that of Light in his final movement. Lastly, a person using a death note doesn't go to heaven or hell for eternity. But they might end up somewhere after they die?
The only place I know of (not specific to any belief as it's often unanimous) is limbo, place where it isn't life, death, and neither heaven or hell but eternal wondering.
Which I guess this is the same for shinigami, they're neither dead or alive as they don't need food to live but don't die until the cycle breaks over one small rule. As for the world, it's eternal and colorless without much to see, a place of abyss.
Most ideas of limbs depict being stuck in some sort of cycle or abyss, cycle being a path that is just a circle because you start where you end and then there abyss. Vast emptiness but those stuck in it.
Rebirth
It doesn't. It was said in the manga and anime what happens to people who use death notes and he didn't mention it
I'm pretty sure it was said in the Anime that after death the owner goes to a place called "nothingness"
I think Ryuk said something like "but you'll learn about that later."

That does lead to the question as to where the first Shinigami, presumably the Shinigami King, came from.

@@doodoocaca3936most likely, it is confirmed that there is a heaven so maybe God made a shinigami and that shinigami(the shinigami king) found a way to make more shinigami via getting humans to become death note users and then writing their names in his death note when it is their time
@@levicarpenter5509there is no heaven it’s a misconception in the show, look up mu it’s where every human goes.
maybe a human created the death note and used it and thus became the first shinigami
@@Kritikaarttour okay, but then how did a human create a death note?
So if that is Light as a shinigami would he technically be able to get his memories back of his old life if he touched his old death note?

Light's soul went to be judged in Death Parade.
We need Ryuk origin story
im looking for this as we speak
No we don't
*Spoiler alert* For those who watched the directly connected series "Death Parade" we see Light in a room waiting because he cannot be judged as Arbiters are Judged & cannot Judge another Judge. They refer to the elevators decisions as Heaven or Hell respectively for individual judgements they make which in a Death Note expressly says that anyone who uses one can never go to Heaven or Hell. The reason the Shimigami use the Notes because they add life span to themselves because that is the only way they won't fall apart like those who wait too long during their judgement whilst in fake bodies. They essentially become a part of the process for the Arbiters to bring people for judgement whilst keeping themselves alive. They end up no longer looking human because of their actions & most likely feelings as they kill over centuries. It also explains why they die if they save a life because ies punishment for not fulfilling their reason for being in the system without being judged, they judge themselves based on their own doings & would they give their life up to save someone else or would they press the button again & again to take lives. That is the dilemma Decim & Chiyuki had, if you were in their place, could you take someone's life to save another.
Is this canon?
@@bluealice1386 It absolutely is, go ahead & Google Light being in Death Parade then take the context clues from both series about what happens to those who use the Death Note & the judgement process. How Arbiters can't judge other judges which the Death Note makes people judge who lives & who dies & what their reasons for their judgements are too ill defined for them to understand because they'd have to be human which is unacceptable for those who cannot live.
@@bluealice1386Its just a theory, or an easter egg at best. The two anime are made by completely different people. Also the guy in death parade only slightly resembles Light.

@@andresfurious8302no, it says that anyone that rights in the death note cannot go-to heaven nor hell, they go-to mu(nothingness) but I don't believe in the light becoming a shinagami theory, I like to think he became an Izanagi (God of life) when ryuk turned to dust into the wind in the last episode in last scenes
@@harrybulz8703 yes I get it but the creator even said that heaven or hell doesn’t exist in this universe unless you have other evidence of something he said but yeah everyone in the universe mu nothingness in the last episode

People just assume what Ryuk wrote is a fact and not, you know, him being a dick and thinking writing that is funny, cause remember Ryuk is the one who wrote the rules in English in the Death Note, and he isn't against making up fake rules as we see later so it's entirely possible he was just feeling edgy
No, because in the manga Ryuk says "not even a human who's used the Death Note can go to heaven or hell, like all other humans, when that human dies, it will cease to exist. " Meaning that if you use the Death Note and die you cease to exist like all other humans.

In The manga, Ryuk says That everybody does not go to heaven or hell, regardless of using The Death Note
More specifically, he says heaven and hell don’t exist
the manga and anime do have slightly different lore and story though so the fact that this isn’t said in the anime and all other evidence for light being a shinigami comes from the anime i think it’s possible
@@superl8296 it IS stated in the anime. It includes the rule that all humans die, and the rule that they all go to Mu (meaning nothingness, meaning there is no afterlife) after they die. Literally the only thing different is that Ryuk doesn’t say anything about heaven or hell not existing. But the inclusion of the rule alone is enough to determine that such is the case.
And the very same ReLight films that this theory stems from ends with the last rule shown in the manga, which states that once someone dies, they cannot come back to life.
In conclusion, no, it isn’t possible.
@@dj3y3
Bit weird that he'd mention heaven and hell at all if they weren't real in DN.
Why mention them once at the start of his adventure with Light, wait several years into Light's reign, and then mention them the only other time they come up at the very end?
There's even separate rules in the How To Use series, one stating that the user can't go to heaven or hell when they die, and another distinct rule that says all humans go to Mu, parentheses nothingness (as in the parentheses are in the rule, not a clarification made by people reading it), after they die.
Just seem confusing for no reason, in universe or out.
@@antitheist3206 I never said Ryuk waited until the end. It’s revealed at the end that they don’t exist to the reader. There’s a flashback in the penultimate chapter of the manga to that very first time Light meets Ryuk, where Ryuk states his surprise that Light works out that there isn’t any heaven or hell anyway. He goes on to confirm that they don’t exist in the flashback, and states that he brought it up because most people would have actually believed it. The reason for this is to bolster the gravity of what’s happening in the present.
Light is dying, and he’s begging Ryuk not to let him die. Ryuk is taking immense pleasure in seeing this happen, and as a final jab reminds him of the time they met, hence the flashback. All of this to tell Light that there isn’t some grand ending for him. He’s going to die, and there won’t be anything on the other side waiting for him because, as he says “death is equal”. Meaning that it’ll be the same fate for him as literally everyone else, because despite everything he’s done, Light isn’t special.
The reason the rules make this distinction is that, firstly, not all of these rules are actually in the notebook. Only the first five, and they were written into Light’s notebook by Ryuk before he dropped it at the beginning. The rest don’t even have those. Second, some of the rules shown throughout the series don’t always necessarily apply to the notebook itself, but rather are fundamental truths of the universe. Examples of the latter are the last three. That all humans without exception will die, that they all go to Mu (nothingness), and that once they die they can never come back.
This would also include the “rule” that a person who uses it can’t go to heaven or hell. It’s one of those very early things that was done as a sting to add a sense of moral weight to the story. There’s a lot of people who believe in heaven and hell. Especially in Japan. So there’s a lot of potential readers who would be pulled in by that concept. The rule itself is more of a redundancy, since it turns out that, well, of course they can’t. No one does, because they don’t exist in this universe. As Ryuk finally says to Light at the end of the flashback, “There is no Heaven or Hell. No matter what you do while you’re alive, everybody goes to the same place once you die. Death is equal.” This is then followed up by Light not wanting to die in the present, but it’s too late.
Its be awesome if light as a shinigami touched ryuks notebook and got his memories back

He meant initially the shinigami king dropped the death note down and the person who used it first became the first ever shinigami and that shinigami did the same thing
Where is the shinigami dimension located though? Is it insidr the nothingness everyone will go to eventually or kinda above the earth lol

Ryuk was definitely Steve Jobs before becoming a Shinigami 💀💀

Ryuk was probably a rock star 😅
Bro what is the coincidence that I start watching death note the anime on the same day you uploaded this video..
You don’t go to heaven or hell in the death note universe because they don’t exist in the death note universe. Ryuk was basically messing with Light when he said this and Light figures it out pretty quickly. There isn’t really a penalty for the using the death note. This was left out of, or mistranslated, in the anime
Thats the plot twist in the simpsons deathnote episode
Ry is just light from the future helping himself tiny bits to redo the cycle
Ichibei: So, I heard your zanpakutou is a book? Mine is a pen!
Light: What?
Me who found a notebook on the ground:
Writes a bunch of graffiti style sharp S on all sides of pages.
Another thing possibly supporting this theory is the Simpsons Death Note parody
Imagine light becomes a shinigami, drops the death note but let’s he’s sister pick it up, then he shows her what he was doing when he had the death note but actually helps her become what he wanted to be, then bring out a enemy of nameless people who was raised to combat death note users and never given a birth name, also make Riku come back and try find someone too kill lights sister because he’s bored and this is entertaining
It is likely that his sister would be put in mortal danger tho, then light would end up killing that person and dying himself.
That part about people being born nameless to combat the death note is absolutely fire
They’d literally all have to be named “nameless” or it wouldn’t work.
Their weakness could be they have to acknowledge a nickname given to them by someone as true!
yes, i clocked this before. i also surmise that a shinigami who sacrifices himself or herself for a human redeems them and they end up in a higher, more beautiful realm of existence
That would beg the question of how the first was created and how will they survive when the last human expires.
Me using it as a sketchbook:
the manga states that there is no real afterlife of a deathnote user
Bro I was thinking the same like there is no doubt about it everything you said perfectly matches like there is no place left except the shinigami realm if a person who uses death note can’t go to neither heaven nor hell this thing was disturbing me for a very long time I am glad that others thought the same way.
Even though I knew anyone who uses the death note becomes a shinigami (it’s as much a given as possible) I somehow never imagined Ryuk as a human. Never tried to picture it. Now that’s going to be on my mind though lol
In an anime called death parade light yagami is seen as a soul that needs to be judged because he ended up in pergatory. But even without knowing this, it also states that the user of the death note, when they die, go to a place called "nothingness" or "the void".
From my knowledge, it was proven by the owners that that idea was false and that they just ceased to exist. The idea that light would re-incarnate into a Sheena with scrapped
Acually, there is another show called Soul perade, and Light is waiting in a room waiting for what he will be sent too
There’s something iffy, if that’s indeed how shinigami come to be, then by the time Light used the Death Note the world should be already aware of the the existence of both.
I’ve always wondered about this. On first watch I assumed Death Note users just get thrown into some kind of purgatory realm, but when you think about it that’s kind of what the Shinigami Realm IS: a purgatory.
I think this theory could have some merit to it, just because of how well it seems to slot into the cosmology of this world.
I spoke to Brad Swaile the voice actor for Light at Sac Anime last year and he said he likes the idea of Light becoming that Shinigami.
in the original prototype manga it was actually specified that ryuk "recruited" a lot of Shinigami (which is why he got a pass for misbehaviour sometimes) due to dropping notebooks as much as he does iirc, so it's very likely that this is the case
although it turns out in the end that all humans go to nothingness rather than heaven or hell though, and ryuk was just messing around to have fun by specifying that in particular, but otherwise I'm very much believe this to be the case yeah
What a masterpiece
Everyone else has to go to heaven or hell. In the language of Death Parade anime Up or Down Elevator. Light was shown in episode 11 of death parade so, i think from there decim's team send him to shinigami world because his scenario was different.
I literally wrote a fanfic about ryuks life if he were a human
The one villain is not broken 💔
He became friends with Griffith
I bet light was so good using it. He was the exception
I really miss this anime😔💔
Did you know, Light Yamagi shows up in episode 11 of Death Parade.
There was a part of the manga where Light is able to get Ryuk to admit that those who use the death note don’t go to Heaven or Hell because there is no Heaven or Hell. Ryuk said that as a threat even though people that use or don’t use the death note have no afterlife
I remember in one of the chapter it says when they die they go to nothingness
Make sense, they take life, the only out is to give your life to save another, sounds like a test.
If one day I am rich, I will continue death note.
The notebook also says those who use the notebook end up ib the nothingness. Doesn't sound like the Shinigami realm to me. 😂
Strange how death continues to occur even if you wipe all the Shinigami from existence
I’m pretty sure the author confirmed that there is no afterlife and everyone goes to the void. It’s probably the same case for Light.
That’s what I figured!
there’s another rule that’s states all humans without expectations will eventually die then after that it states their soul goes to “nothingness” going as far as making a symbol, I and some others believe it’s the books way of saying the first person to touch the death note will eventually die and go to nothingness the shinigami realm with out remembering a thing because he lost that death note he or she possessed in life, it’s prolly why the shinigami we believe is Light is actually looking for Ryuk to touch his book, the person who wrote the i believe abide by this theory
Depends what the death parade cameo was about
Holy crap, imagine a boss fight between the potentially next death note weilder, and the king of shinigami
I’m the death note manga it says the place humans go is null , basically meaning there is no afterlife in the death note manga
I mean, it kinda makes sense when you consider the enormous amount of rules for incidents of humans using the death note when it’s not supposed to happen, and allegedly rarely does.
this helped me except the ending
What I like about this is that it appears that when a shinigami intentionally save a human, it completes the cycle. It's the complete inverse of the originating circumstance of a human finding and using the death note to kill.
A few days ago, I started watching death parade, it basically where you play minigames to define either you get damned to the eternal void, or get reincarnated. And I'm pretty sure I saw light calmly sitting on the couch when Ginti showed maya who she should sent to the void. I dont know if this is canon or just a reference, but it is a quite good reference if it is one. And as maya couldn't chose, ginti send both her and harada(the other person) to the void, meaning light was probably reincarnated. Also bothe of the animes were animated by the same company
bro I thought you were the minikatana guy💀
But considering who light is as a person it would be cool to see him drop a death note but instead of being off to the side like Ryuk, he’s more involved and controlling
the anime clarifies in a later episode that all humans go to mu (essentially nothingness) so when ryuuk said that he’s not going to heaven or hell he meant it quite literally. the author clarified this with the phrase “all people are equal in death so heaven or hell isn’t important to this story “ paraphrased. I’m not sure if he debunked the theory that light is a shinigami but i’m pretty confident that something does somewhere.
A problem is that everyone actually goes to the same place, there is no heaven or hell
Ryuk was messing with Light when he told him death note users don’t go to heaven or hell, all humans return to the state before they were born
Reuk was just trolling light it is an fact
Everyone forgets that it's revealed that humans don't go to heaven or hell anyways at the end
This could be true but in the manga it says for humans there’s no heaven or hell but they go to nothingness but I do believe that the death note users would become a shinigami
at the end of the second ova there is a very important sentence it sounds something like this: once dead you cannot be alive? idk i dont remember
If you actually read death note you’ll know after ryuk says you can’t go heaven nor hell light says “that just tells me there is no heaven or hell” and ryuk tells him he’s right
Is it only me who had this theory in mind by the second episode of Death Note? 💀
Me: Writes my name into he death note
so if anyone finds it they can return it to me
by the way idk if anybody else stated this but, although it states that any human who uses it can't go neither to heaven or hell, later in the series it states that there is no heaven or hell and they go to nothingness the same place to before they were born.
I CAN BELIEVE IT. THEY DON'T GO TO HEAVEN OR HELL.
That was accually my theory the whole time.
Death Note season 2 would be amazing(if there is any)
