Problem is that it has shelf life and to me it seems like not a very long one.
The problem is the way the live service is implemented into many games is at a detriment....for a game so many years in development I would not be surprised we find out only a fraction of it was productive
Err why did you use the sad John picture in the thumbnail when he said he liked the game?
You should keep that haunting image for things that actually make him sad, like lcd screens, disk-less releases and war.
Any games that come on a hard-drive then?...
He said he likes the story thus far as he is in it. The gameplay aspect, which he's treating as a crackdown and the some graphics like facial expression. Everything else was bad.
DF clips vids are getting longer and longer to the point where it should belong on the main channel.
I can forgive WB's insatiable greed, what I can't forgive is their utter contempt for their own legacy characters
I'm running it on a Ryzen 7 5800X/RX 6800 XT and having no real performance issues, at least that I've noticed. 1080p, a mix of medium/high with RT off, I've had no stutter at all, and while the framerate does fluctuate quite a bit, it's averaging around 75ish. I don't know about NVIDIA, but AMD did drop a new driver on the second day of early access so maybe that helped? I did have a bug that prevented me from booting the game up without deleting the shader cache files and recompiling for the first day of early access, but after the first patch/hot-fix it hasn't compiled shaders again and has been super solid overall. Maybe it's more of an issue with NVIDIA cards, or maybe I've just gotten lucky by lowering settings? Fwiw, John, I've played through the entirety of Gotham Knights twice, more than 100 hours, I like that game more than anyone it would seem, but I completely agree on the ugly presentation, poor writing, and terrible performances. I do think GK's version of Gotham quite a bit, though, despite the technical issues.
I feel bad for the team at Rocksteady. They probably knew there would be some pushback to the live service elements, but not to this extent. They probably just want to move on, but now they stuck working on this for the next few years
I'm curious; on a technical level, what would cause more or less perfect frame times on console, but anything but on PC? They're just using Unreal 4 right? What would cause this kind of discrepancy?
Most likely I/O streaming related
Arkham Knight had the same problem. Only now, 9 years after release, I can finally max it out @1440p and get locked 60fps with perfect frame-times.
😅
I think it's because consoles are easier to optimize for because everyone's PS5 and Series X/S are the same. Same internal hardware really. So the developers can more easily focus on a smoother, more optimized performance on them.
Meanwhile, everyone on PC has slightly different CPU, GPU, SSD configurations alongside different driver versions running those hardware.
I could be wrong, but I believe that's usually why console versions don't exhibit the same frame time errors PC players experience. Doesn't mean console version don't experience it, it's just usually easier for QA to spot since if there's stuttering in a certain spot on the PS5 version, it's easily replicated on another PS5 and thus called out/fixed.
@@brian.montero but that doesn't actually explain the issue: for example for shader stutter PC needs to compile shaders where consoles don't, but this game and many other Unreal titles have other stuttering issues outside of shaders only on PC. That doesn't really make terribly much sense to me, unless the engine was designed to synchronously load assets which makes absolutely no sense for something from the hard drive console generation, or there's a bunch of CPU work to decode assets which really doesn't make sense when games are 100+GB and targeting a known OS level API (which is itself async, and therefore shouldn't be the cause?)
Maybe something to do with the unified memory model of consoles where the original asset/level loading design didn't consider that the time to load from CPU memory to GPU memory would be considerable? It's still confusing to me that that would be that tricky to fix given it already had to handle async loading from disk, but it's easy for this stuff to get tangled up, I suppose.
@@SimonBuchanNztoo many cards to optimize for on pc and devs not taking the time needed for any of them. Console is just one. Get it to work and boom your done. Devs know that they can fix pv as it makes money......short end of the stick syndrome. That's why it's best to wait for games on pc 6 months after release. Runs better(hopefully and in most cases)and your pocket wins the price as well
Games made to be a cash milking machines are the worst kind.
We should never lower the bar so this stuff becomes the norm.
But If I remeber correctly it happen the same with Batman Arkham Knight, I played not so log ago and I had issue with disconnection. Am I right or I remembering it wrong?
I'd rather play Sunset Overdrive again than the new Suicide Squad game.
So much wasted potential...
its still available in a humble bundle with orcs must die 3!
They had almost 9 years to try and optimize the game for the pc...........😐
The problem with the graphics is that the arkham games exist and side by side characters like Harley Quinn look really flat in this game. The roughness, specular lighting and normal mapping was better in the Arkham games.
I wonder if the loot upgrades being ineffectual point to the games-as-service part being poorly tacked-on later on after insistence by a Warner exec? Because in most RPGs, MMOs, and looter-shooters, the tiny numbers that make your damage go up tend to be noticeable enough to warrant constant upgrading, looting, or paying to win.
It's possible Rocksteady just wanted to make Left 4 Dead But with Arkham mechanics, but instead were told to make it marketable for microtransactions.
Or maybe it speaks towards doing their best to rip them back out after the horrible reaction to the initial reveal.
In the end-game, the mastery levels make loot upgrades and build synergy necessary. It just isn’t in the story, and that’s why some people feel that way.
At the highest mastery level, there’s literally only one build that works right now and it’s fire/diablo elemental 😂 because the enemies have WAY too much health…
Online games suck so much
You can’t afford WiFi in 2024?
He perhaps means live service, and they do indeed suck @@az99682
@@az99682Missing the point entirely, depending on servers to be able to play the game at all even with bots is terrible. The day those servers are shut down you can kiss your game goodbye, and pray your connection doesn't go out while playing, or that their own servers fail
@@unsavourylittlerunt this is just the reality in the modern age. Even single player games like Spec Ops the Line can get delisted and you can no longer get it unless you find a DVD at a thrift store, or you downloaded and installed it ages ago. To their credit, Rocksteady has promised offline story mode after launch, so if they push through with that I might get this once it goes on sale, or becomes available through game pass.
@@az99682 never go full R
Kudos for the team for sticking almost entirely to the technical aspects of the game, even if the product is an absolute dumpster-fire. It'd be interesting to see their final conclusions since it seems they stopped playing right around the flash fight which is just right before the whole game goes down-hill.
This game will be heavily discounted in 1 year and even then u gotta pay me to play it
I give it one month maximum.
You can tell the first-time commenters who are here because they're on the hate train, because they are _pissed_ that DF are going so far as to damn this game with faint praise. Sorry to say but that's about as much as you can expect from this wonderful team. They don't ride negative press the way some game reviewers do, even for games they clearly hate (see their Wolfenstein Youngblood review).
People spent actual money on this game and that is incredible to me.
People spent money on a game they want to play and it surprises you?
It has very positive score on steam 🤢
@@whodatninja439 Steam users are known to defend slop JRPG ports, and gave Starfield most innovative gameplay on the Steam Awards, and labor of love to RDR2 despite the game not having any updates in a while, so yeah this tracks.
Bro I bought the GTA trilogy remake at release some people make mistakes sometimes lol
I actually really enjoy the game me and friends are having a blast. Only spent 57$. Steam reviews are consise on this. Maybe you should give it a try with friends and form your own opinion instead of following trends
they need to change the name unreal engine to stutter engine
I dodged a bullet with this one, unlike so many i liked what i saw in a playthrough and the story looked cool so i preorderd a few days early, but they blew it by not launching until 6pm so i got a refund.
now i know the full state of the game i was saved from wasting my money i have a 2080ti system and the game would have been so frustrating to play.
i think its a great game but in its current state i am not intersted.
Lol all John's optimism about this game will go out the window by the time he gets to the end. No way this game is worth it even for just the story
As a very smart person I feel like I'm surrounded by people who are not
Only not smart people call themselves smart
Statistically, you would be.

**Apparently, people voice subjective opinion's that do not adhere to logical structures of formal logic and thus people operate bubble existences like that episode of Seinfeld**
@@PuppetMasterdaath144 Clearly I’m too dumb to know what you’re saying
you are scraping the bottom of the pan and eating whatever stuck there and telling `well I am full, that was better than I expected and yummy, I enjoyed it` while you have paid for the full 3-course meal with drinks. sorry john if I don't believe that.
Im a huge fro of DF, but i think its best they just review the technology, because dont think John's review saying its not a bad game ? ??? Really? I know its terrible.
Zero issues playing on PS5. Only one or two instances where an asset popped in
Another thing to die from ESG.
Where’s the cauntrauverzy? I thought most people were lukewarm on the game
Just like Avengers, this game will be free to download in under 6 months.
The game is actually really good imo. I love Tara as Harley so i was anticipating this game for Harley...and i LOVE IT!! but yes service shit needs to go away. blame games-as-a-service on the greedy Take-Two...they caused it to get out of hand by making 4 billion dollars on gta online microtransactions.
Oh and Rocksteady is more of a console developer so its not surprising that its better on console. Not to mention...PC is the worst platform to develop on because the amount of configs....annnnnnnnnnd...its the smallest market in high end gaming.
cmon man
Summed up. It's shite.
Only problem is pc performance I paid 30 bones and I just wanna play tge game with proper frame pacing
Problem is woke
People have really been ragging on this game, but then I watched MindPulp play it and it honestly doesn’t seem that bad. It’s not great by any means but we’ve seen WAY worse. The Avengers game seems significantly worse. I still wouldn’t buy or play either of them though lol
Is he for real? the game looks worse and soulless compared with Arkham Knight
Man, that's too bad... Anyway...
Go woke Go broke !
Sorry fellas - Arkham Knights is better than this one thats for sure...
Ah yes
CZcams compression is what we found bad about this game
Only got a couple mins into the video huh? Lol
Because he outright said he could either ignore or turn off anything else. Shitty live service mechanics? Ignored. Shitty looter-shooter-big-number-UI? Turned off. Even then, it's more like he tried salvage some fun out of it.
Also, don't expect DF to ride the negativity train. They couldn't even bring themselves to hate Wolfenstein Youngblood, despite clearly having multiple issues with it. It's just not that kind of outlet.
Go somewhere else if you need your biases reinforced.
@@NionAeon i watched it all. They go too easy on things
What even is this comment? Obviously CZcams compression matters when it comes to judging the visuals. As for the game itself, he doesn't exactly give it a glowing recommendation and has plenty of reservations about the GAAS aspects... which you would know if you actually watched the video. If you want to mindlessly feed your gamer outrage, there are plenty of clickbait youtubers that offer that.
@@destructyo what even is this comment? You think people dissing this game are concentrating on the visuals for the most part. Man go sit on the kids table
A few things i personally despise in modern gaming... live services and progressive left ideology shoehorned into into games with the subtlety of a brick to the face and constant quips cringe dialogue, as you can guess no sale here.😅
