My favorite Josh Johnson moment was watching him go 7 innings only giving up one unearned run on a game against the Phillies in May of 2010. His opponent was Roy Halladay, who threw a perfect game.

@@SpacemanSpiff1715 Actually the error was a dropped ball by Cameron Maybin in center that allowed the run in, but good catch, I missed that typo. That's always what I remembered Josh Johnson for tho, getting a loss after a great start because of an error and Roy Halladay being a legend.

My favorite Miggy shot is him blasting a no doubt goner in the 2003 WS right after Clemens threw high inside at him to try and scare him. He showed his stuff then as a rookie…he was gonna be a legend.

As a Marlins fan… it’s painful, BUT I still love my team. I was young in ‘06 but those players are still talked about, it was a fun team to watch, so was ‘09 where the entire infield had 25+ home runs
I agree. Even with 2World Series teams, that 06 team was my favorite. So much fun to watch. And Uggla was my boy. Still have his jersey.

@@ballen787 Crazy how baseball is a multifaceted sport. You can have great hitting but without any good pitchers you’ll never win. Also, Yelich and Realmuto weren’t the same caliber players as they are today/in their prime, Stanton was the only one truly at his peak. Casuals don’t realize that the bullpen was god awful, and when we say they were “one pitcher away” from contention, we weren’t lying.
Random, but marlins related. I'm not a marlins fan, but I can say I loved watching Jose Fernandez on the mound and even on the bench with his personality and enthusiasm. His passing definitely broke my heart to see he was a joy to watch.

Both the ‘97 and ‘03 firesales were driven by ownership wanting to save every last penny they could instead of compete.
I’m a lifelong Marlin fan and 2006-2009 era were some of my favorite moments ever as a fan despite never making playoffs. It was just a great group of guys that were fun to watch.

Uggla was so crazy. He rose so quickly and burst in to flames just as quickly. It was weird. He was a great power hitter on a couple of teams. He was like Jeff Kent Lite 😂

In MLB Power Pros 2008 the Marlins are OP despite having a team salary of only $19 million. Also I'm willing to bet that had the Marlins not traded Willis and Cabrera, they would've won the World Series in 2008 or 2009.

Nah the Marlins had no pitching in that game. Best pitcher was an Anibal Sanchez with F control. Their bullpen was also completely forgettable.

What a great video, you really did great job of encapsulating the extreme highs and lows of that period of Marlins baseball. Which for me is the last time I truly believed we had a chance to do anything special, that was a championship team but mismanagement robbed of us of ring #3. Hopefully the Marlins get back where they belong soon, its been 20 years to long...GO MARLINS!!!

me too! My first game was 4/5/93 against Lasorda's Dodgers. I was 5 yrs old, but I met Billy the Marlin and fell in love with the team.
I have to ask: why? The Marlins have repeatedly torn the team town to the foundations, cry poverty while making record profits, and get rid of their best players constantly to pad their owner's checkbook. The product they've put on the field is insulting to their fans.

As a lifelong Marlins fan, this video crushes my soul. I'm sick and tired of watching this team fail on every single thing they do to the point of not watching them at all this upcoming season.
Ironically, they got Ramirez after tearing down the 2003 team and trading Beckett. When they traded Hanley, they got nothing back. A brutal trade.
Going from this core to the next core of Jose + Stanton/Yelich/Ozuna core just broke me as a marlins and a baseball fan
Imagine what the Marlins would’ve meant to the city of Miami had they actually invested into their team + all this young talent. Could have been a dynasty
I've never really understood that narrative. They keep the team in the city, they've done a surprisingly good job of building competitive rosters consistently (with occasional stars), they built a state-of-the-art stadium (even if the finances were somewhat questionable).. people just never really showed up year over year.
A handful of years ago they had an exciting leadoff hitter who stole 60 bases every year (Dee Gordon), the best young outfield in baseball (Stanton, Yelich, Ozuna -- two future MVPs!) and the best young catcher in baseball (Realmuto).. and they still only got 5,000 people to show up any night Fernandez wasn't pitching.
It's just a busy city with a ton of other stuff to do. Until they win 100 games like 6 years in a row, or field a competitive team with 75% Cuban players, nobody cares enough to show up consistently.

What is the most egregious of these 2 downfalls after the Marlins won the World series on those two occasions is that they had owners that were so hell-bent on maximizing that bottom line. Not even reaching the mountaintop can save a team from the cold reality of cheap sports owners and it's MLB's own darn fault.

@@hughjass2640 The MLB doesn't have the authority to stop an owner from blowing up a roster. So long as the owner is not financially ruining the team long term, there's not a lot that the MLB can do about it. Was dismantling those teams the smartest idea from a business standpoint, no, not at all, but the decision also didn't bankrupt the franchise or anything so MLB legally can't really do much about it.

You see this every 3-4 years as a marlins fan. After this Gincarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, and marcel ozuna were the starting outfield with Jose Fernandez on the mound. The best part about being a marlins fan is watching they're young players be successful elsewhere
Stanton and Yelich despite winning an MVP hasn’t been all that successful since leaving Miami, same with Dee Gordon.
Yelich not only won MVP, but then followed it up with an even better season nearly winning a second MVP straight. Stanton has been injured mostly, but still put up better numbers than any Marlin while healthy. Not sure why you added Dee Gordon to the mix as he was almost entirely known for his base stealing, and was in his 30s by the time he left Miami.

I love this video because I am a diehard Mets fan but I am from Florida and when the Mets were having an amazing season in 2006 I always looked at the 2006 Marlins team and said this team is so loaded young Hanley Ramirez prime Miguel Cabrera young Dan Uggla, Josh Willingham, they had a lot of starters like Josh Johnson Ricky, Nolasco, Olson, and whenever the Mets lined up to play them, I knew it was gonna be annoying. I would always sit here and think now 18 years later like damn that team was loaded I thought I was the only one.
Everyone thought the Marlins were going to be ridiculous back then, I think the consensus was that they were going to be a dynasty, but I think the fans always knew, because I remember what a lot of them were saying on the internet back then, and it was mostly about how Loria was going to blow it all up because he was so cheap, and it seems that's exactly what happened. Turned out that they were right to give up Willis, but man Cabrera was the heart and soul of the team, how could you give him up? Loria really must be the worst.

@@DMalltheway Yep, they got Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin. Maybin went on to have a long, if unspectacular career, but IIRC, Miller was pretty much a bust. Jeffrey Loria sucked!!!!
As a Braves fan, the 06-09 Marlins were so scary, I was so happy to see Miggy and D-Train shipped off to Det and Uggs get traded to us!

I grew up playing with Nolasco he was lights out when we were in high school. We played against Jesse Chavez quite a few times. Anytime Ricky was facing Jesse you couldn't help but sit back and watch (not many balls put in play when they pitched) you just knew you were watching two guys that had a future in the game.
I think I’ve watched +90% of Marlins games from 2002 to 2013. That 2006 team was all prospects except for random bench players, Miggy, and Dontrelle (who were the same age as the prospects). They started that year off something like 10-30. The fish found a way to lose every game. Middle of the summer they started crushing it. I mean, we were talking playoff chances by late August. Back then, we were able to acquire so many prospects because teams were much quicker to trade them away. Now, FOs want to keep these young guys because they can produce more for $500k compared to a FA worth $15M.
Miggy we knew was going to get traded for years. We got two prospects from the Tigers who were both in MLBs top 10 prospect list. But they were awful and Miggy stayed the course of being a boss.
This 2006 roster was built for 2012. We were pretty loaded in 2012 and everyone was picking us for the playoffs. But the guys couldn’t get things together (kinda like the Florida Panthers now). The salaries got very high for Marlins standards and because the team sucked they blew it up in 2013.
It’s been an absolute mess since the fish moved into Marlins Park. They either have all hitting and no pitching or all pitching and no hitting. In the mid 2000s the Marlins had a great balance of both. Which lead them to always having around .500.
It was an exciting time knowing that we had so many young all stars while playing .500 ball and being in the playoff talks every July and August.
The fish moved into a new ball park in 2012, changed their logo and jerseys twice, and haven’t been competitive at all. To me, it’s almost like they moved to another city and a new expansion team came in. It never felt like the same identity and team. Hurts, but I’m still a fan. I just barely watch them on TV and read about them instead.

Great video. I attended many Marlins games that year to watch the rookies win against much higher payroll teams. Then they traded Miguel and Dontrelle and we knew they were in trouble again. The fan base was weak back then. Anibal Sanchez threw his no hitter in an empty park. Hopefully they become competitive again.

@two stop Because Miami's population is made up of transplants who often have other loyalties. Or it's like the Miami Heat who have an incredibly fair weather fanbase. Real fans of the team absolutely love them though. I went to Citizens Bank Park just to watch them play.

2006 Marlins started 11-31 and were on pace to lose almost 100 games as predicted. But then they got redhot and entering September, they were in the NL Wild card race.
At one point in September, they were 73-71 with 18 games left. UNREAL.
Had they won the NL Wild Card in 2006, they would have been the biggest cinderella in regular season history.
Marlins were such a difficult team to be a fan of.
So much generational talent all on one squad and they squandered all of it.

As a lifelong Tigers fan I have to give respect to the terrible decision of the Miami Marlins giving us Miggy. He's been THE player for us for 15 years now, a guaranteed first-ballot hall-of-famer, and as far as I can tell from the outside looking in, has brought better hitting advice to our team that our batting coach has.
At least Miggy won the Marlins a World Series before being traded to Detroit. I hope perhaps one day, maybe the Marlins can retire his number 24.

Being a Braves fan and seeing many marlins players come and go is quite sad. They genuinely have no issues developing star talent and are better than the majority of teams.

Marlins also did it again. They were building a great, young team with Fernandez, Stanton, Realmunto, Yelich, Gordon, and Ozuna. All the Marlins needed was 2-3 more starting pitchers and they could have been a World Series contender. It all went downhill because of the death of Fernandez. I'm not a Marlins fan, but Fernandez was my favorite pitcher to watch at the time. Him and Stanton were the only reasons I would ever watch the Marlins.

in 2008 this marlins team were in the thick of the pennant race. They were about to trade for Manny Ramirez... but at the 11th hour the Red Sox demanded Mike Stanton (now known as Giancarlo Stanton).. the Marlins rightful balked at this... Manny was traded to the Dodgers instead.. went nuts.. and the Phillies took the Marlins playoff spot (and the World Series).... injuries to Hanley and Josh Johnson and the insane greed of Jeffrey Loria got in the way of this core.

As a Yankee fan yes say the year 2003 and it sends fans into depression. But seeing the marlins win 2 World Series and have a huge amount of talent over the year (including Giancarlo) makes me extremely sad to see ownership be cheap and not care. I imagine the marlins being a hugely successful franchise if ownership cared.
Could also add they had two mvps an all star catcher and a roty pitcher, they (but also life) sent them away.

Being a white sox fan, seeing Miguel Cabrera 19 times a year was horrifying in those early years with them. I dont understand how he didn't win more MVP's. In his first 6 years in Detroit he hit 227 homers, averaged of .327 and an ops of .995. This was also in a ballpark that punishes hitters.

The Marlins didnt "soon enough" tear down their 2003 roster; they tore it down after the 2005 season. Two seasons later is not "soon enough"

The Marlins front office personnel did not want to sign Girardi as their manager, but Loria wanted Girardi. Loria was his only supporter. Loria gave Girardi his first ever managerial job when no one wanted to.
