This is what I have always wanted a in a video game in regards to exploring and adventuring. An entire world just locked away by a hidden wall or hidden in a small crack in the ground. Gives that awesome sense of discovery!

One of my favorite parts of this game without a doubt. You start out in Limgrave, get up to around stormveil and are like "damn this is huge", then you get to Liurnia and realize "holy shit, this is massive!", then you find the plateau or wander into Caelid and are like "dude wtf... this is crazy!"... but even at that point, you may not even realize there are whole other areas under the map, and some of the biggest, most fleshed out areas are what at first appear to be just two tiny little spots on the side of the map... thats when the scope of it truly starts to set in, and even then, it's likely there are tons of random caves, dungeons, hidden paths etc that you still haven't seen. At over 175 hours I just found a cave today that I had never been in, and read a comment about a boss I hadn't found in Mt Gelmir. This game is a masterpiece. I feel awful for the people that listen to the hate from people who claim its "unimaginitive" or "unfinished" or whatever other clearly nonsense arguments they make, that really only prove they didn't actually play the game and they likely think Limgrave is the whole thing. Really sad.
tbf some of the later areas dosent seem as well designed. More big empty spaces in them. (But theyre still better designed than AAA open world areas)
@@Erlisch1337 it might be possible you’re not leveled enough to be able to enjoy it as an area? I personally find myself only liking exploring areas where I know I won’t get one shot instantly, so I’ve left the later areas untouched save for the areas that are required for game progression, it’s possible people just haven’t found as much as in limgrave simply because there’s not as many people wandering around those higher level places (other than experienced players)
@@noahmitchell5814 My level is far from an issue. Im way overleveled lol. 165 and still on NG.

@@cman4740 yeah but there are multiple ways into deeproot. For example i have completed her quest line and never knew this door was there even after getting the rune arc lmao
Yes i didnt know this path, i was using the coffin to get to the deeproot
The way I found this place was that I was trying to find Dung Eater and went the wrong way in the sewer, somehow made it to the boss room for Mohg, The Omen. After I defeated him, I saw some gap above at the end of the room. So I went behind the chest, tried to get up there by jumping, jumping hit the wall, the wall suddenly move and behold, A TOTALLY HIDDEN AREA (this was all done by accident, without any guidance including in-game ones)
Edit: correction on Mohg’s title
I just finished both the 2 catacombs where in 1 you seem to be circling around the same area and enemies keep appearing although you killed them and the dead ones are still lying on the floor. after doing the route 3 times it looks like you are stuck, you have to backtrack to a specific room from 1 specific room and only then will you be able to see al lift, if you don´t backtrack and just run 1 direction the lift never appears and you can´t get out. the 2nd catacombs is the one with all the transporting chests, there are essentially 3 times the almost exact same dungeon and you only notice it by small things that you´re not in the same area as before, like plants or a coffin somewhere. you have to jump off a ledge in 1 of the 3 and then open the correct chest before you can reach the handle for the boss door, what makes this even more confusing is that every enemy you kill stays on the floor, so it looks like you´ve already been in the area but actually you haven´t and it´s a complete mindfuck the enemies there are the exploding pots and big pots+ the stone imps
I loved the mindfuck catacombs. The feeling of being trapped, the every so slightly same rooms repeating one after another. Not knowing which way to go. forwards, backwards, ladder, jump, elevator? Und the finally reaching the lever and knowing you beat the maze.
I just did the chest one today. It was really cool. The other one was in the sewers I think. Also really cool. Man what a great game.
Where is the chest one?

It's at the very bottom of the hidden path in the Cathedral of the Forsaken that's unlocked by striking the statue behind the chest in the room where you fight Mohg the Omen.

From Software just said : yo I heard you like dungeons, so we put dungeons inside the dungeons so you can dungeoning while dungeoning lol

The best part about Elden Ring is that it just... keeps going. Like you get to a new area and see something off in a different direction and think "I'll go grab that before fighting the boss", and then you find another path leading on from there, and then there's a hidden room, which then leads to a whole dungeon, which then has another boss to fight, and by the time you get back to what you were doing you've completely replaced all your equipment with all the new shit you got.

A lot of this actually reminds me of the Zelda games (having Ocarina of Time in mind, which was from 1998!). If you didn't have any guides you also missed out a lot of optional stuff. FromSoftware doesn't seem to reinvent the wheel, they mere stay true to an essentially ancient gaming tradition.

My favorite part about this area that Asmon found is that the dungeon you enter in from the world is, probably the largest dungeon in the game, the final one might be larger, haven't done it all yet. Then if you find the most inconspicuous thing in that dungeon, you'll get into this new hidden dungeon, and if you through some sort of miracles figure out the madness of the hidden dungeon, and beat it's boss, there's a secret dungeon behind that boss, AND IN THAT SECRET DUNGEON IS THAT DOUBLE FAKE FUCKING WALL THAT LEADS TO AN ENTIRE HIDDEN CITY. And I didn't even mention the part about the other hidden dungeon in the stack of all that bullshit I just mentioned because it just doesn't lead to more, but ya, in one of those locations is ANOTHER dungeon.

This is why I never take any low review of Elden Ring seriously, most of them are complaining about how to game is bland and repetitive, lacking creativity, has an empty open world, etc etc.. but all those people are just players who are too lazy to actually spend time actually exploring the game. The amount of hidden secrets and treasures and lore and everything else still blows my mind every time I play.. Some say they do not like this game and souls in general but they can’t deny the scope.
When you realise some people didn't know Elden Ring had an underground area....yet alone multiple...
This game has set the bar. It's insane. I played it for 6 hours yesterday and got no where. I can't wait to do the same again tonight
the true experience
good 4 you bud, my pc cant run it :(
@@commissarrex9058 time to preorder steam deck
Haha had exactly the same experience when I started playing, still am not even close to finishing it and got 60 hours in already
More evidence that everything is not designed to be found by any one player.
The "multiplayer" for this game is meta... its one person discovering A, another person discovering B and the each are like "wait I never knew about that"
NO!
RPG are not meant for speed run
elden ring is a game for the entire 2022
only idiots think to finish it in 4 weeks
you play, you unlock a zone 100% and if you cant you remember or write down whast is not finished
this is an RPG, a slow game
deal with it
@@RealNotallGaming You are an actual child. A whining gatekeeper.
"WAAAHH NOO! YOU CAN'T PLAY IT THAT WAY!!!"
I've always thought that the Souls series is a multiplayer game at heart. Even a very thorough player won't find everything, so by using the help of other people, you can learn a lot and succeed better. For example, no way that 99% of people were going to find those hidden paths in volcano manor that take 50 hits to open on their own, however if one person finds it, then everyone can find it.
@@RealNotallGaming or just let people play how they want to lmao
@@grodon909 you play alone

WTH MAN💀
After 200 hours i had no idea that theres something.
Ah the sweet joy that was Elden Ring. Really loved playing that out in it's entirety.
Beating your head against every wall in hopes of an opening or secret reminds me of doom 1.
So for anyone curious this is just the same area where Fia's and D's questlines take you
I have had multiple 'mindfuck' moments like this throughout FromSoftware's games. Whether it's a secret area within a secret area or just a really well-crafted shortcut, it makes you appreciate how amazing the level/world design is.
I have spent more than 200h in that game also checking walls for hidden paths (clearly not all of them) and this path is new to me...
Gotta check them all! xD
The location is call Frenzied Flame Proscription, you can access it after you beat Mogh the Omen( Not the blood lord, different guy) in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds.
I found this area thanks to a casket and finished the entire thing including the boss with Fia LONG before I ever found my way to the bottom where the Three Fingers were locked up.
I found this hidden wall behind a hidden wall and got so excited about there being ANOTHER area and then got bummed out pretty fast. But I appreciate that there's two ways to get here.
Explanation: the area he is in when the bideo starts is a safe zone at the end of the sewer dungeons. The sewer dungeon is an insanely massive dungeon, beneath the legacy dungeon that is the city(also massive) and then it leads to a third hard area, deeproot depths. So all underneath the erdtree, there are literally 3 massive areas (w small minidungeons inside them) so exploring through these areas feels crazy bc its so massive, sprawling, and intelligently interconnected
The safe zone you’re referring to, is it the one right past the 2 giant prawn?
I knew there was a way to the top of Deeproot! from the map it shows as though you could get to the top of one of the trees, but i could never find a way there. this makes so much sense!
Finding this zone gave Me the same feeling as finding ashen lake for the first time, so far beneath the earth lies such beauty
I love that they hide rune arcs down hidden passageways. Meanwhile, a few of the most powerful weapons once leveled are just chilling on random corpses and chests out in the open in Limgrave.
Game hides so much from you intentionally cause its confident in the amount of content it has. This isnt easy to pull off without the players feeling like they could be wasting their time. Trust to the developers that they know what theyre doing is VERY important. Part of why exploring BOTW and Elden Ring felt great to me because I know my efforts to exploring will be rewarded because I trust the devs to know what theyre doing. I probably wont feel the same with a ubisoft open world game Im not gon lie.
BOTW was super boring to me, and I love elden ring. They seem very different to me.
I regret starting NG+, now i have to start over again.
Love finding whole dungeons where you least expect it.
I had this exact feeling when I found the entrance to Subterranean Shunning-Ground. I genuinely thought the key was going to open a cell in the small sewer sections of Lyndell Capital.
Until I found the well entrance and used the key. Going down a bit further passed the rats and seeing the entire level open up into a massive sewer pipe complex was honestly a chefs kiss. Completely blew away all expecting. Every area in ER is the OG DS1 feeling all over again.
And here I was thinking he was just being trolled again.
THIS is why elden ring is a perfect open world game
Had the same reaction when I found this area. Was like "does this game ever stop surprising?!"
So nice to have so many people to help u out as u play
So one day someone needs to do an all hidden walls % speed run of this game
For those wondering how to find this grace site, because it's honestly kind of bs:
After defeating Mohg, hit the altar and decend to the very bottom of the tomb beneath, them drop down and the floor will collapse revelating this part. And yes, if you fall from higher altitude you are greet by a dead zone and if you throw a cristal it shatters, which completely threw me off at first because it makes no sense.
and its mohg the omen not lord of blood
Games that aren't afraid to let you miss things are incredible. They allow you to uncover things not because there's a huge marker telling you exactly where to go but because you want to. And you want to because you know that theres things out waiting to be found
I just started NG+ and completely missed that area I remembered picking up that specific rune arc. ffs
Can someone tell me where in the game this is? Would like to explore here!
Anyone knows the name of the dungeon? I think i missed it :(
after spending ages down the bottom of that area then having it linked up from above. the awe was immense.
I remember getting the brass armor set behind an illusion wall in ds3 great feeling
thats what i miss in other games like in wow. you cannot discover anything. mostly its already advertised in the patch notes or in a trailer... because modern greedy companies do not invest money into areas which might not be played.
kudus to fromsoftware for keeping this spirit alive.
Imagine if Dark Souls came out before the age of the internet and you'd have to discover all of its secrets on your own.
And then when you and your friend talk about the game and you blow his mind about the secret you discovered
It sort of did. When demon’s souls released in china/Japan, I bought it immediately. There where no English guides.
No idea why those red enemies appeared all of a sudden. It was awesome 😊
this specific entry into this level is definitely a reference to the entrance to the great hollow in dark souls 1
This is what blew my mind in the original dark souls, games have become such a commodity that developers don't budget time for things that most players will never see. Yet in the original dark souls, an already huge game you have the inside of a massive tree hidden behind a double illusion wall, as you traverse the tree and finally get to the bottom after quite a long journey you are presented with a massive underground beach with actual NPCs and factions in the zone. Even if most players won't stumble upon it, it adds so much value to the game for those who do.
Ppl are going to finding shit like this for years man. It's crazy
gods i wish i could have played d&d with these guys when we were growing up
the best thing about this is that this means going through the Leyndell sewers is a shortcut to the Deeproot Depths, while at the same time going through the Deeproot Depths can serve as a shortcut into Leyndell.
makes sense as it literally is the roots of the erdtree
I remember finding that wall behind a wall in DS1. One of my favorite parts of that game.
sadly this isn't the only way into the area and there is a more intuitive way, but this is still insane
Asmongold, use Margit or Morgot's shackle. Just use it. It creates a ping that removes any invisible walls.
rly
@@tralx5268 yes.
removes any invisible walls... in what range?
@@MidnightSt whole liurnia, nah i really have no clue, should try it out in a dungeon
@@MidnightSt im not sure exactly..but its a big range.
Dude. Over a year later and I’m still seeing new places I haven’t been to. Crazy
this is great with illusionary walls but im still saddened that we didnt get another variation of the chest mimic or the real big troll would have finally putting in the bonfire/grace mimic but have it be randomized each new game cycle so you never really know if that spot is a real grace or not till you explore the whole area of a place.
people say that you would not find it yourself - yeah maybe, but if you do, it's something you will enjoy tenfold and if you don't just watch a yt video some day. I hope we can see this in more games, even if it comes down to asking for more (hidden) content somewhere in the game.
This is why I laugh at those who say that the level designs for this game are boring and basic. I can tell they did not actually explore them out when they say shit like that.
After finding out about the volcano manor wall….I’ve been sawing every hidden passage wall hoping for it to disappear
I went through the entire game hoping there would be a spot where the above-ground would seamlessly connect to the underground. I ventured to this area after beating the final boss and was finally gratified lol. It was one of the last things I found in my first playthrough.
Yeah I’m taking my time on this game. 80hrs in and I’m barely about to fight Rennala.
That is the best way to play, the only downside I found os that I became a bit overleveled for some fights. So maybe don't level too much
@@joesheridan9451 Yeah I’m just collecting items and weapons at the moment. Boss fights are still a challenge.
its been a long time since i`ve had so much fun in a game, 44 hrs in and im still in awe
You can use Margit's Shackle to discover hidden illusory walls, stop fire traps and destroy the chariots.
i love how he is always in awe of this game. like he is wide eyed and mouth open lol
I hit every wall since i seen these pop up In the game more hidden paths for me!!
ER : Now... hit 50 time per wall
@@mukaonline3 I really don't think that one is intentionally like that, it doesn't even play a sound effect when it's broken
@@yungkenwud6397 or maybe we hit every other wall 50 times now 🤔
Or floor... secret stair
Its a reference to DS1, in Blighttown one of the deepest part of the game you can get acess to a area called The Great Hollow, going down through the roots one can enter Ash Lake, one of the most beautiful area in Dark Souls
this make me miss castle vania when u discover a whole reserved castle
Don’t forget that one late game hidden wall you need to hit like 100 times (it has 9999 HP) to get through.
Wait, does rolling into the walls open certain walls that hitting it with a sword or weapon wont? Also i heard that torches reveal hidden ladders? Im 105 hours in game and not even 1/2 way explored, and by that i mean ive been to 1/2 the map but not combed extensively. Literally hundreds of hours more to go and then when NG+ comes i can have a different experience. Not sure how they did this in 3 years dev time when other producers cant do half his in 3 times as long
rolling is simply way faster than hitting the walls
no, rolling ALSO opens illusory walls, just like weapons. its just that in the area he is in, the attack button is disabled, so the only way to find the wall is to roll.
Rolling has always been able to open walls, with the exception of DS2 where you needed to press A/X. Its not different, its just that the area he is in has "Passive mode" which means you cant attack at all, so the only way to open the wall is by rolling.
@@bophadesknutz7798 Fun fact: there is an illusory wall in Sen's Fortress (DS1) that can only be uncovered by hitting it with a weapon or your fist. Idk why it's there, probably the devs just forgot to add the dogde roll to the list, but it's there.
no other developer hides SO MUCH of its best loot away in shity corners in dungeons and TRUSTS its players to go find it anyway :) FROMSOFT is a cut above the rest....
Rolling into random walls until you discover a wall that disappears: the pinnacle of discovery gameplay in medium.
Discovering the eternal cities was some of the most insane shit to do blind. Still cannot realize there is more locked away like that
