      Im glad GN does this type of stuff. You see LTT making criticism now and then, but overall LTT sucks manufacture dick because he knows that he needs sponsors. GN would probably do better if they were shills like LTT, but then the actual honesty and unbiased content would disappear and i'd unsub like i did for LTT.

      ac3ofspades878 You realize you wrote this comment on a video featuring the bloatware on an expensive gaming laptop, right? And LTT certainly doesn't shy away from criticing manufacturers just because they did a silly video about an RGB chair.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n Před 7 lety +6

      +Epsilon In my experience with CZcams lately, who you're subscribed to, including notifications (the little bell) has very little impact on what gets recommended to you. My recommended stuff seems to be based more on the types of videos I've been watching lately (not necessarily who) than who I'm subscribed to.
      And I say recommended because I don't always get notifications for channels I'm subscribed to, despite the fact that I've clicked that stupid bell (which I shouldn't have to do if I'm subscribed to them).

    Still don't understand why every brand is still making software to control basic functions that Windows has done good enough for years already... I don't need a program to control battery, brightness, WIFI, and basic drivers anymore. The god damn Toshiba we have at work use almost 1GB of RAM with all their "suite" software, and it barely works.. just uninstalling it gives the laptop 30min extra on the battery.

      Lenovo's "updated" control center is garbage. I went and installed the W8 one, actually nice.
      Things like express charge, conservation mode, fan dust removal, etc. which is useful.
      They also integrated the mouse pad software stuff into the mouse properties window, under a touch pad tab. It actually has gestures that I want, like being able to do 2 finger rotation (why is this still not a thing by default in W10?).
      There is a lot of other bloatware I guess, but I always check what bloatware I want, back up those apps, then wipe and reinstall W10 Pro (usually system comes with home here, for some reason I can't get no OS installed systems).

      Even the scumbags that stick yahoo toolbar in an installer have an option to skip that, why don't we have prebuilt systems with an option to keep or kill the bloat on the first boot. Perhaps include the "bonus" crap on a flash drive if you really want it and only pre-install the bare minimum drivers and a recovery partition. Plenty include shit that's defunct by the time you purchase the system if you don't get it at launch that keeps triggering popups that whine about not connecting to a server that's been down for ages.

The only things it had on it were fastboot (though I just uninstall that because it's pointless) and a single application they had built which contains all the diagnostic information, driver updating tools, etc. You open a single window and you can access support, you can do a diagnostic scan, you can check for updates, etc, and it's only there if you want to open it. That's how it should be done. A clean Windows install with just some support tooling there for customer service.

But their software, leds, and red/black only design is so limiting. Then look at their M7 board. Beautiful design, bad implementation of RGB's and sync capability. MSI gaming app, bugged for months (for a number of AMD boards) and unnecessary (could just add the functionality to After Burner). Please MSI, help us help you. You have some insane potential and could be one of the top 3 companies in the space.

      Balbh Manufacturers can't get out of their own way. Mobile phone market is another great example. Entire Android user base just wants a clean Android experience and manufacturers spend on developing garbage proprietary apps and features when Google does all the work for you. OnePlus built an entire business model on being hands off. Motorola was saved by offering a near stock experience with no bloat. And yet there are handset makers scratching their heads about how they get out of fourth or fifth place market share. They just need to get out of their own way.
      But this is even more egregious. A PC manufacturer has literally nothing to do with the OS and compatibility, until they decide to try and make money by signing bloat agreements with garbage software vendors who wouldn't exist without the bloat phnomen.

      Exactly, whether it's a phone or a laptop or a desktop computer, I'll install the apps I want or need. I don't need janky apps out of the box.
      The problem is that I'm not an average user, who expects to turn the phone on and do stuff right away without having to install anything. Average users want something that "just works" (like the old, stupid Mac ads used to say, even though in reality that wasn't entirely the case). That's why they continue to do this, average users are stupid and demanding. That, and because the "features" that the apps add are bullet points for sales.

      They also make it incredibly difficult to upgrade simple ram sticks, which should be accessible to any end-user. Some of their laptop machines put the GPU and CPU cooling pipes in the way of the ram slots, forcing you to have to remove the cooling unit entirely, just to insert a new ram stick or upgrade to more memory. I've since switched to Asus laptops, which do not have this problem.

I was having some minor issues with the way the steelseries keyboard and the lighting on the laptop was working. For example the back lite USB ports were not working at all... Well I installed the Dragon Center, and all of the little issues I was having are now gone... SO I have to agree that is the one thing that is "required" to be there to get all the bells and whistles you are paying for. Plus it is a easy quick way to "overclock" things.

      They are expensive and their cooling is noisy noisy. I have an MSI laptop , the dragon center is really good. The cooling is a bit bad because its always noisy as hell in idle in ECO mode. they need to have better cool solutions and undervolt their cpu and gpu a bit. I cannot do it because of the warranty but having 90 more degrees when gaming will kill my laptop real quick soon. Their laptops are not easy to modify because the motherboard is flipped and stuff. Never buying MSI again , never. Its my opinion. Laptop model : GE62VR 7RF apache pro GTX 1060 , I7 7700HQ , 16 GB ram , 1 SSD and 1 HDD . Just to modify storage and ram will be a mess , I checked out guides about it because I want to improve my laptop when the warranty will be gone . At this state this laptop will die at 90-95 temps while gaming on sport mode (theres turbo after to overclock more).

    After my MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition blew it's self up during a stress test; I learned the corners MSI cuts to keep price down are enthusiast features, mainly VRM design. eg: has 'some' power delivery
    That said their products are AMAZING for people who only want to plug and play, and as 'the computer guy' in my family, I know that even Intel's control panels are more than those people want.

    I keep coming back to this video... THIS was the moment I knew Gamers Nexus was different. They showed through testing that the bloatware hurt performance, which put MSI in a no-win position. How could they justify preloading the gaming laptop up with "free" software when it objectively hurt performance and the user experience? Though Steve's hair back then was a bit less distracting. Now he's almost a caricature of himself.

      I've never heard of any PC/Laptop manufacturer voiding warranty because a customer decides to do a clean install of the same version of the Windows that is included with the PC. That would make no sense, and you should never buy any brand that actually dose void warranties for such a stupid reason. Besides majority of laptops and desktop will have a hidden recovery partition you can use to restore the PC back to the bloatware loaded image of Windows it shipped with if need be. And Like the above guys said, Windows product keys have been tied to the Firmware/Motherboard now. I can't remember the last time I had to type in a product key when re installing Windows 10 on a PC.

The Killer software SUCKS!!! It keeps asking me to "set"my max upload and download speeds... how about this setting: go as fast as you can with no limits!!! who wants to set a limit in the first place?!?! The BIOS allows me to overclock my CPU and the Killer software allows me throttle my internet. I guess "Killer" is for killing network performance.

      So no hysteresis setting?

    • @captapraelium1591
      @captapraelium1591 Před 7 lety

      Yeh that's hysteresis not delta. If your temps jump up at all, you want the fan to go up, and you want it to stay up until temps fall beyond a certain amount. With a delta, your fan wouldn't go down when temps do, but it also wouldn't go up when temps do, and that would be bad.

    • @captapraelium1591
      @captapraelium1591 Před 7 lety

      Regardless of the heatsink, the fan should respond instantly to temperature increases because the fan is what moves the energy out of the heatsink and actually away from the chip. You WANT the fan to instantly follow it. But only on the way up. The problem with 'wiiii, uhhhhh', is only the 'uhhhh' part. You want it to spin up immediately with temp spikes. The 'wiiiii' is good. The 'uhhh' should not happen instantly on temp decrease, and it's not delta that achieves that, it's hysteresis.

The first time I boot a new laptop it's with a USB stick to re-install Windows, I'm not even going to bother trying to remove all the junk that was pre-installed. So, this is my first video I've seen from Gamers Nexus, and I've decided to subscribe, like the video and give my impressions not only on this specific video; but the channel from what I've just seen.
    I'm very impressed, telling it straight to MSI is necessary. I used one of their Z170 boards before I ran into an issue with the DIMM Banks. As it was relying on Killer Performance Suite, I had to install that nasty bit of software. During my time with their Z170 M3 Board, I noticed quite a few things that were unusual with my PC. This was a brand new PC with a 6700K, SSD for OS, you get the gist, it was the full works. But when I noticed temps were running a little higher than ambient room temp, I decided to take a look through task manager and you'd better believe Killer Performance Suite was swallowing resources like they were the last things on earth.
    I have a serious gripe with bloatware and pre-installed garbage like you'd find on a clean Windows 10 install nowadays, and things like this need to be called out. The production of this video was straight forward, but Steve is very forward, understanding and giving very fair, constructive criticisms of MSI's product. The sole reason I haven't gone with an MSI laptop (or any laptop at this current point, truth be told) is because the disappointment of booting a new system for the first time doesn't have that magic when I have programs running in the background leeching resources. I could guarantee you at least my sale and positive review of an MSI laptop if the bloatware was not included, or at the very least; not enabled on start-up. It's a real shame, I'm not overly a fan of the 'gaming aesthetic', like I was when I first built my current PC in its first rendition -- but for MSI I feel like I would genuinely look passed that. What I can't -- yet refuse to look passed, is the bloatware.
    Got yer'self a new subscriber GN. I've heard good things about your channel in the past and I can see why. Ace!

      It seems like whenever a company starts to get big, too big, then quality starts to go downhill. Then, when things seem to be at their worst, management gets together to close facilities, fire staff, and end certain lines of products, and then things get better. Sometimes, though, if things get better, and then get really, really better, the company will start to get too big for their britches again. And again, quality starts to dwindle.
      This has happened with a lot of companies. I think Asus is on their way back down, again..

    The exact reason I never booted my Asus G752VL from factory windows. Wipe that drive and fresh install. Thanks for bringing this to light and discussing it.

    My favourite is when the laptop has an issue and you contact support and they find out you've removed their default bloat stack and they say you are no longer entitled to support.

      No thanks Stallman, I need to actually use my computer for productivity. I don't have time to micromanage each individual package that is installed.

    Msi are not the only people who do this. Manufacturers need to take note. Thanks for the video

    I subscribed just because... Well... Because of honesty really. In a world of bought out media/persona, it's quite refreshing for one to tell it what it is.

    Never liked MSI and never will. Bad QC, very cringy marketing, disgusting logo, and use cheap materials only to charge a premium for their products.

    As usual Steve, you are telling it like it is (with actual facts). Users need to know this stuff. I fully expect MSI to be pissed at you, but if it gets shitty, you also know that all you are doing is pointing out facts. Which they cannot deny. Thanks for your honest content.

    This is an issue I have always known about and experienced with "bloatware". As a computer system engineer of 25+ years who has spent endless hours identifying and cleaning off bloatware from many machines it actually angers me that this is still an issue. I think it's good of you to piont this out.

    Necessary and good video! Best thing to do when getting a new laptop: Put a fresh copy of windows on it (and cherry pick any really needed drivers) - won't take long on a unused system with SSD (

    Brilliant vid and well said.
    The amount of bloatware that comes with Laptops (and mobile phones) is staggering.
    This is a topic that should be talked about more often with all tech reviewers.

    I got a Sony Vaio in 2008. The ridiculous amount of shitty bloatware was the reason why I returned in under 3 hours. I never touched another Vaio since then. Dude, I hope MSI and other hear you here.

    THANK YOU Steve!!!!! Finally a youtuber with balls, who isn't afraid to point out the crap manufacturer put on their laptops.. I've bought MSI's laptop and uninstall all this crap at first start.. This is way too much bloatware..
