Whenever I watch that documentary about the creation of episode 1 I ALWAYS think about the interaction George had with Steven Spielberg in the desert. George is explaining about the big battle between the gungans and the droid army and it goes -

How to fix Star Wars:
1. Ignore the sequel trilogy and quietly decanonize it.
2. Recanonize the EU
3. Hire a Star Wars lore master
4. Create a sequel trilogy from an accomplished Star Wars writer working with George Lucas.
5. Hire an accomplished director who doesn’t hate Star Wars
6. Recast Luke, Hahn, Leia…etc
7. Write a movie trilogy detailing the rule of two centering on Darth Bane. Here we get a perspective of the Sith
8. Write a movie trilogy concerning Darth Plagueis
9. Print money!
For real I'd love to see Darth Plageis, and Count Dooku and his previous Jedi Life.

I would only have two requests from George:
1 - Whether from Bob or Kathleen or whoever it may be, don't take directions from them. Don't accept "tips" from them. Trust your instincts.
2 - Work with talent and talent only. Jon Fraveau, Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard even. I'm not saying accept everything they say, but rather really consider their ideas. These are your peers now and they are the only ones that you should consider and share your ideas with.

The absolute BEST thing that can happen right now is George gets full creative rights like he did in 1976, teams up with one of the only people who had confidence in him(Steven Spielberg), and makes HIS Sequels in this series AND THEN Dave Filoni continues the unbiased Star Wars we had in 2011. A New Hope.

I still believe he planned this all along. xD Think about it. He knew the prequels had some backlash and he knew Disney would mess up star wars even more so, and he decided to become even richer, while watching his prequels become more appreciated due to disney's bad writing and marketing. His stuff would look better in comparison, he'd be richer and then later on, people would call on him to be a consultant or creative supervisor, so it'd be like he'd be in control again, even if he technically doesn't own the property anymore.
If George does return with creative power over Star Wars, he NEEDS to have people around him who he can trust to help him iron out, strengthen, and even change his more wild ideas.
When George is left without anyone to help him creatively, we get the Prequels, for better and for ill.
When someone like his ex-wife helped him, we got the Original Trilogy.
I'm much more concerned about George Lucas' health & his old age now.
It will be extremely depressing once he passes away & I really hope it's not for a long time!

I’m a starwars fan and I have no problem saying George going back to Disney might not be a great idea.
Especially with the "or I walk" attitude.
One of the reason the Prequels were flawed was because no one seemed to challenge George at all.
He is a great creative mind, but as a director, a part from a few key scenes, he's not that great "do it better" "make it more" isn't clear on what he wants. He has had great actors Portman, Neeson, Lee all be wooden and dull in most of their scenes.
There were so many hurdles in make 4 and 5, people to challenge him, including Marcia, while prequels were all 'oh it's gonna be great'

If George Lucas was to return to Star Wars, I think he will serve more as a creative consultant or executive producer but with more input on how the film or series is made. I always viewed George more as an artist than director and Star Wars is his masterpiece. He knows what he wants in the worlds he creates and I respect him for that. I also admired his other works he created like THX-1138, Indiana Jones, and Willow.

Disney knows that announcing his return would get whatever next project he's involved with PRINTING money. Bringing him back makes sense in every possible way. Reset the overall direction. Create new stuff to sell. Hype release..
They'd have to also give him full creative control and allow him to pick his own team to work with.
I'm worried it would end up being the same situation that is currently happening with Akira Toriyama's legacy. That George may pass on during production, and who will end up finishing the rest of his work. With what we know about Disney, I have my doubt that they will respect his unfinished work that he left behind if it were to happen.
This is not a bad thing. George is at his best when he has someone steering him or is willing to say " Hey George, this might not be the best idea, Dial this particular thing back a little". The original movies worked because he had people over him keeping him sorta restrained.
I just learned that the original EU technically came to an end 10 years ago on Wednesday past. I think this is a good time for me to get back into the Expanded Universe I used to love so much! Going to use the Wookipedia 'Timeline of Legends Media' page and Matt Wilkins' Reread lists to get through it all again.

Honestly I can't really see George coming back in any capacity where he's going to be creating a whole film or series. He's almost 80 years old, just on that alone towards the end of his life I don't see him getting years deep into a Star Wars project after he's left it for so many years already.

While I don't consider myself a Disney Star Wars hater, I can't deny that my love for the franchise has never been so low. While George Lucas becoming involved in some capacity on a future film/tv show wouldn't be a guaranteed home run, it'd certainly reignite some interest in the franchise for me.
You're right to say nobody can tell George what to do, but I'm still ultimately disappointed that he didn't hang on to his original idea to make jar jar the big bad behind palpatine. He's a genius that the world doesn't deserve

I been to the Premiere of Return of the Jedi back in 1983, I think I have been around that most people on the internet.
I see every damn Star Wars movie that was made left alone all the series that I found relevant.
To me the last Star Wars movie was Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and the First Episode was Episode I: The Phantom Menace, so far Star Wars only has six real episodes as the movies go.

TransFormers Producer (g1) Nelson Shin actually CREATED the Lightsaber design FOR George Lucas back in the early 70's and ALSO that is WHY Megatron and some others have been able to weild ENERGON-WEAPONS from their wrists that are pretty much.. I'd love George to come back and finish the CW story arcs that never got finished. That needs to be done badly because it's the only SW material left with his creative involvement, and it would be a tragedy if we never get to see it on screen the way it should be especially since they are building new stories off of those stories but for some reason refuse to finish them. They should release them as 10, 90 minute episodes or movie specials on Disney Plus. That would solve that problem once and for all.

The problem is that one, I still don’t have much faith in this happening. Two, if it happens I don’t think it’s going to be the key to “reviving” Star Wars or whatever. He’s a better and good choice for a new movie than a lot of what Disney would do themselves, but he’s not going to make something perfect that everyone will love. Trust in Filoni, who everyone see’s as the next best thing, has already been waning. George himself has also said people wouldn’t like his ideas for future stories since they double down on things people didn’t like, regardless of whether or not Disney sets him up to fail.

I have thoughts, if he wants back he comes back if they respect who made it in the first place, I used to watch the behind the scenes of George approving different designs crafted for the characters like General Grievous, I just hope they listen if he gives feedback or if he has any creative freedom in anything hopefully they don't restrict him a lot. That's my opinions right there. 💯 May the force be with you, always!
I wish Disney would do something where they split Star Wars and let the market decide what they want to see. You can have one side that's Disney Canon where they make what they want, and another side that the Lucasverse where its George Lucas given a blank check and Disney lets him to his own thing.
Disney won't do that. As things are, a large portion of the fan will pick Lucas either out of nostalgia or to spite Disney.
Honestly, I think that even if George Lucas came back I don’t think that it would matter, too much damage has been done at this point and the passing of time has ensured that there is no way to wind back the clock and give us what we as fans wanted in the first place.

Here's my guess as a chain of events....
George Lucas is announced as an executive producer of the Dawn of the Jedi film directed by James Mangold, then 6 months later or so it is announced quietly that he has stepped away from the project for "reasons". I think Kathleen Kennedy will push him out. Although this all makes sense now why he came out of nowhere and backed Bob iger. We have seen too many promising names come to Star wars for projects only to be cast aside, unfortunately I don't see George as exempt from this possibility. Hopefully I'm wrong
At this point it wouldn’t matter if he came back. The only reason they would bring him back is because they have beaten him into submission or so that they could destroy whatever it is he comes up with in any sequel that follows.
Theory at 4:31 you don’t know what you’re talking about. George Lucas simply failed to get control over the sequels as part of the contract because Bob had him over a barrel, George knew it, and there was nothing he could do.
When R. K. Rowling sold the movie rights to the Harry Potter books to Warner Brothers, she still retained creative control, so your comment that it’s not hit it works is not true. Not saying you’re lying, just you didn’t do your due diligence and properly research and understand this subject.

When he sold the franchise and Disney(Iger) said no to him having any say I feel like it was the thing that made him want to be done with it. A rule that you can't touch it after you've sold it would hurt anyone's enthusiasm. We've since seen him numerous times on set, and he has to be giving guidance even if he's not controlling those projects. They have to know he's there. They probably knew they couldn't keep him out for ever as long as people loyal to him were willing to have him on location. So why not just let him be a supervisor officially if he isn't allowed to be scripting or directly controlling things? It has to be what they're doing to at least generate a buzz. If the corporation wants to get OG fans onboard it's the least they can do if they aren't going to give him control back.
My thoughts from the announcement of the disney acquisition of the Star Wars IP was, "this could be great, George Lucas' stories with Disney's funding." Sadly, that wasn't the case and walking out of the theater with my son after seeing TLJ... the magic was dead, gone and I lost hope of seeing any more of George's stories

He had no way of knowing just how incompetent KK would be. She was one of the most prestigious producers of all time and she's done a good job managing Amblin.
He sold, to protect his employees. He sold to the man who fought to give "The Young Indiana Jones show" a second season when it was on ABC, even though the first season lost money, because he saw the value in creativity.
Bob Iger would have stayed CEO no matter what in the proxy fight. The only difference is that an activist investor would be on the board. Activist investors are like corporate raiders, they sell and cut and drive up the revenue temporarily, and sell their stock before the profits sink to insane lows. They are the bottom feeders of Corporate America. It doesn't mean that Lucas thought Iger was doing a good job
