Shalamar - Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniels and Jody Watley in a rare live vocal performance of their final UK hit Disappering act from their 1983 album - The Look
Check her accusations against them. JD apparently abused her during their time together..HH was a bit of a sod (allegedly)...To this day she doesn't want to work with them. She acquired rights to the band name some time ago...not sure if they've resolved that bit of business now. HH sort of reached out to her online ..not sure if that was a genuine apology but she's over both of them and that era..moving on. For.now, no way they'll ever work together as that classic threesome.
I believe this is their last performance together, Howard and Jeffery clearly show disinterest . I miss the OG Shalamar . Hey i grew up during this era , 3 sexy and talented individuals!
This performance was actually recorded on the same day as their last performance for Dead Giveaway on on TotP. So when it was aired at the end of August 1983, Jody and Jeffrey had already left which is why there was no other promotion or video for the single. Caused some confusion at the time.
Jeffrey looks like he's on another planet and it's awesome! When guitars, bass and real drums replaced with electronics, drum machine and obvious disinterest. Still my favorite #Shalamar single.
You go jody,She's one of my all time favorite, this was the night if i remember frm the media was that howard was in a huge argument & she stormed back to her room & they had to convince her to come out & go do the show, after that performance that was the last straw for her all the drama within the group,so that's what i heard so hey correct me if im mistaken,DEFINITELY my favorite group of all time,I wish everything remained the same.
Letts all take a moment too remember that Howard isn't the original shalamar frontman anyways Jody & Jeffery r the real original two they were hand picked by the creators & producers of soul train which Jeffery & Jody were dance partners shalamar was a song at first until Jody & Jeffery joined then they had two other frontmen n the 78 til howard came along, yes Howard's voice is very fucking sexy when he sings butt Jody watley made the group what it is cause her voice is soo strongly intense & beautiful that her n Howard voices toogether sound soo intoxicating & beautiful butt Jody's voice outt ranks Howard's anyday, I never understood why Howard had the I'm the lead n only important one n the group when he wasn't the original guy n it he seems too forgotten that Jody n Jeffrey were the actual original group not him soul train producers thought Jody wasn't important too shalamar until 84 when she left & disappearing act wasn't there last performance, It was actually dead give away she left the group n England after the shott dead give away music video cause of Howard's additude problem after she left Jeffery did too & they replaced Jeffery n Jody with a guy from one of princes prodigies & a girl who took Jody's place, the new guy n girl had too perform dead give away live too promote the new single n on the live dead give away performance the girl actually is lipp singing Jody's parts n she never had performed Jody's song disappearing act cause she ain't Jody Watley with that said after they performed dead give away live with Howard that was Howard's very last performance from shalamar n they replaced him with somebody else & shalamar was never the same withoutt Jody is exactly why Howard left n his career was nonexistent after the fact letts not forgett that Jeffery beat Jody at the beginning of shalamar when they first started outt til she broke up with him & he married Stephanie Mills, Jody is still a THRILL withoutt Jeffery & Howard always will be
You can see in the body language between the three of them that they were done with each other. Jeffrey wasn’t even on this song. On the album that it was on “The Look”, Jody said that Jeffrey was only on “Dead Giveaway”, and that Leon Sylvers III did the vocals in his place. She was on everything except “The Look” and “You Can Count On Me”.
This is a very pop synth song and not my favorite by Shalamar but Jody sounds great and looks and moves great as usual. The group had a strained relationship for sure and you can tell by the way the guys look like they would rather be digging a ditch than to be on stage. So glad Jody moved on to become a star and the other two... hmmm who knows...
One thing strikes me watching this video. This would've been a good time for Jody to have had that song and video to herself. Like Jeffrey did for A night to remember. Howard and Jeff look REALLY uncomfortable here, like chopped liver.
It wasn't though was it! Closer, Dead Giveaway, Right Here, You Can Count on me, You're the one for me, you won't miss Love, Over and Over abd Tge Look, all much better!
Tomi Martin because emotionally behind the scenes they were having problems with Jody and there was rumours in the British papers that they were splitting up. And this was their last performance they did live on Top of the Pops.. after this they did a disappearing act...
Jeffrey Daniels and Howard Hewett seem pissed off! And don't seem interested to be on stage with Jody. After this they all split up they did a disappearing act.
How humiliating for Mr Hewett knowing he always wanted to be the limelight and center. You can almost feel the uncomfortableness. Mr Daniels at least tries to be 'involved'. They should've kept their ego's in check. Still all part of learning THE HARD WAY.
The final performance the classic lineup gave. Sang it Jody.
Jeffrey does that spin like "I don't wanna be here but I'll try to be a good sport" but Howard is like "fuck this"

Also, she had more solo success than either of them. Won Grammies etc.
Jody IS SO gorgeous
LOVE this video..... Jody was and is simply sensational!
THEY ALL CAN SING!!LOL SHE GONE TO BETTER THING!!
I believe this is their last performance together, Howard and Jeffery clearly show disinterest . I miss the OG Shalamar . Hey i grew up during this era , 3 sexy and talented individuals!
What a voice Jody x

Howard and Jeffrey are clearly checked out. This was their final live performance as a group.
I loved this song back then and still do now 2024
Anyone think Jody is singing about her band mates here?! Their body language speaks volumes!
YES,AND HAPPY SHE WENT ON HER OWN,AND SHE DOING GREAT!!
Would make sense.
god thanks for this voice
I like it. Very poppy, the synth hand-claps, funky guitar & squelchy bass! Soft spot for this era Shalamar.
Don't care what anyone says I love this tune it's awesome and so are the guys and jody.. Classic 80s music
Jeffrey looks like he's on another planet and it's awesome!
When guitars, bass and real drums replaced with electronics, drum machine and obvious disinterest.
Still my favorite #Shalamar single.
My favorite song from them.
They way JD spins while singing still makes me chuckle.
It's such a tragedy that Shalamar broke up.
They are so gifted beautiful and full of energy.
Sister Jody Watley so sexy and divine.
They are back together now.

This was about the video to Dead Giveaway.
Yeah I've read that two..plus the Unsung episode...she recently addressed some of that drama.
Love This Song And Her
hahaaaa!!! she did say their faces told it all!!!
Thanks for posting. I do like Shalamar. In this song, you can really hear the 80:ies "Beverly Hills Cop Eddie Murphy "... sort of

During this time they were on the verge of breaking up. Look at Jeffrey's facial expression. Jody is performing her butt off.
I didn't think that the guys looked uninterested, only giving Jody her moment in the spotlight (as a member of Shalamar).
Jodi did say that they'd had it, and they didn't want to do this last performance, but they did. And the body language from the guys say it all.
Nah.. they were all done!

I think Howard’s pissed this is the best song on a great album.
Great pop song ...not really Rand B funk like the previous. Linked over and over. That's more Shalamar to me.
It wasn't though was it!
Closer, Dead Giveaway, Right Here, You Can Count on me, You're the one for me, you won't miss Love, Over and Over abd Tge Look, all much better!
Man you can really see that show mall was having issues the way Jody Hall and give her a f*****-up look damn
Why are Jeffrey and Howard just standing there?? Lol!! #SoloCareerHints
CAUSE THEY ARE NUTS,THEY DID HER WRONG!!
Tomi Martin because emotionally behind the scenes they were having problems with Jody and there was rumours in the British papers that they were splitting up. And this was their last performance they did live on Top of the Pops.. after this they did a disappearing act...

@JaySinger Jody sold more records though
I would have farted on the mic and left
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

YOu feel Jodie's star power thru this god awful pop song and her moves just reek of stardom beyond the group !!!
Shalamar at their worst.....
perth45 Not really. There was NO Shalamar at this point; just JODY WATLEY. 😂😂😂😂
