- Rare full performance of Shalamar in 1982 singing LIVE. From the Tube UK - A Night To Remember - There It Is - Friends. With, to me, the "original" members, Jody Watley, Howard Hewett, and Jeffrey Daniels. (yeah, I know there were two male singers before Howard, but Howard was part of the huge success and hits after 79).

OMG CAN YOU JUST FEEL THE GROOVE. WHERE HAS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY GONE......BRING IT BACK PLEASE AND FAST.
The light of the World has gone out I'm sorry to say.
Shalamar was the complete package! Not many groups can sing live, dance and look great at the same time. So much talent!
Unless I’m naive but all groups in the 80s can have all this qualities and TOTP have all their people lip synch
Live.😊
Jody was fine, can sing and dance.
This reminds me of Friday nights going out then clubbing great time I’m 62 and loved the eighties and we never bothered what sex or race we were just lived our lives and music
Dynasty we're as good.
No auto-tune, no playback, 100% live performance that sounds like a studio recording. Tight as a drum. Sheer quality.
Compared to what I see today, this is an example of actual talent and delivery.
Wow this sounds great live!, very raw! No lip sync or auto tune, just pure soul.
Music like this will never be the same 😭
This is 2023 the music still sounds beautiful to listen to,,my best band in all the time
Jody's voice reminds me of Diana Ross's. Both have crystal-clear delivery and both voices are so unique. Both are one of a kind!
The dance that Jody, Jeffrey and Howard was doing in the beginning of A Night To Remember is called "The Dominguez Strut" and then they did "The Body Wave". We were doing those dances back in L.A.
and Shalamar brought it all over the world. 😍
Omg this is pure talent Howard had a remarkable vocal range back then and Jody is a Goddess and Jeffrey’s moves killing it, I absolutely loved this group and still do.
Great taste in music....
They made MAGIC when they sung together
Her voice is so clear and beautiful
Four years later (1986), Jermaine Stewart-Shalamar’s choreographer and back-up singer (unmistakably in the red bow-tie and suspenders)-had a mega success with his hit, “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off”.
A year later (1987), Jermaine’s close friend-Jody Watley-emerged into her own greatness.
Jeffery Daniel was choreographer
So did Hewitt
And Jermaine did a song called "Jody" that same year.
Great live performance by one of my favorite groups. Love seeing RIP Jermaine Stewart as back up vocals. Shalamar always seemed to have so much more love from the UK than the US. I never could understand why they weren't bigger in the US.
They were huge to the black community in America
I noticed him too. Never knew he sang back up for Shalamar. Wow
@@nicholashillclark9868 Yeah Jermaine Stewart was close friends with Jody Watley.
they where HUGE to us black folks in the States-- for the culture
They were huge in Nigeria, with other groups like Dynasty, Lakeside and the Whispers.
Howard was the hottest thing on earth and his voice is amazing!!!
Jody is just PHYNE!!!! I always thought her voice gave the group their sound.
Howard was the man tho.
@@themooneytwinsHear what you saying love Howard you need both to be shalamar.
How great to see three absolute dance anthems of the early 80s being performed live. Shalamar had a wonderful sound...the bass, sequencer, guitar and beautiful harmonies. I loved Jody too, of course. And legwarmers over leather trousers were a distinctly 1982 look! Great memories of a better time for music.
This is as RARE as it is EXCEPTIONAL!!! There are VERY VERY FEW existing live performance footages of THE ORIGINAL LINE-UP OF SHALAMAR performing WITH A BACK-UP BAND!!!!!! VERY RARE!!!! And, did anyone spot THE LATE GREAT JERMAIN STEWART out there on background vocals???? EXCELLENT POST!!!!!
This is not the original lineup Howard came later in 1980 . The band started in 1978
@@myronsmith2114 you are correct, the original line up in 1978 was Jody Watley, Jeffrey Danials & Gerald Brown. I believe their debut album was called UPTOWN FESTIVAL.
I remember watching this live in 1982 and fell in love with Shalamar ❤❤❤❤
Her voice is so nice
Yes Jody voice was so important to their sound
Let’s make a toast to those who helped make this occasion, SOLAR records , Dick Griffey, Leon F Sylvers lll all the musicians and writers and the incomparable Shalamar, Howard Jeffrey and Jody 😎🎶🕺🏿💪🏿
Man, what i would give to be back in the 80's, didnt realise it at the time, of course.
I did realize it and what a ride!!!
I was 14yrs shalamar❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jodys vocal tones are on point. You go GurL ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Leon silvers is a funky bass player absolute monster of a bass line 🙂
The best 😍…and the ”beats” goes on and on and on 🕺
That was borrowed from Bernard Edwards from Chic along with the guitar riff Nile Rodgers style. Still good though ...
@@whotrickedyouBenard & Nile were monsters! Pity Nile now days doesn't give as much credit to Bernard & Tony as he should. Nile credits Bowie & Madonna more than the aforementioned.
I invoke Howard’s energy every ongoing. Greatest inspiration back home midwest
My favourite Shalamar song!! 🕺🏿
Wow! I never knew this live recording even existed.
9 out of 10 bands succumb to the adrenaline of a live context and play their songs couple of bpms too fast - often losing some of the groove the process. However, in this specific case, the Shalamar live band actually *slowed the song down!* (Speaking of "There It Is".)
The result is an even deeper groove than the recorded version. I enjoyed this a lot!
Totally agree, one reason I dont like very many live concerts.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates when they speed up a funky song and totally lose the groove !
shalamar takes me back to driving around LA listening to KDAY.... LA chic!! ;) good times!
Jody"s vocals are right there on top.
One of the few quality Shalamar live performance tapes. Great music, dancing, and stage presence. Jody Watley and Howard Hewitt were so talented.
It funny cool seeing Howard dancing... he's said he nots a dancer and he seems way too chill to dance 😅#shalamsrrules
yo bruh you are on point but come on you can't front on jeffrey daniels !
Saw this set at Rock City Nottingham in ‘82. Loved it then, love it now!
They sound good live! Jody, Jeffrey, Howard love you guys!
Total-Class-Act! Sing, Dance, Look Good!! Go a long way xx
39 years after this show and the vocals are timeless!
love jody watley's voice
I luv Jeffrey daniel⁰😊 even he's aging handsome😂😂😂😂😂😂
It is a shame that the group do not get along anymore they were so talented together no one can replace jody watley no matter who they get. 13:58
Beautiful voices! Simply awesome and true!
Fabulous live vocals (backed up by Jermaine Stewart) way before autotune and vocal enhancements - so fake. This is raw and authentic with real instruments being played when you HAD to be able to actually sing (HH was a beast!) The mighty Shalamar who also happened to look good ... And how great it must be to enjoy your work as much as this 5:58 😊
Real music .. real voices great band great rhythm. .. uplifting..👍
Yeah! And also .... Dancing and singing at the same time - not easy-peasy!! So much to concentrate on!
Shalimar - sign of the good-times!
xx
There it is what took CZcams and comments so long
Love Jody❤🎉🎶
Yesssss!!!! Happy 40th anniversary.... Thanks for showing us live view...y'all guys stronger than ever...❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Awesomeness💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️
legends 👑 1#holy spirit 🔥
RIP beautiful Jeremine Stewart.
10 stars out of 5 !!
Mindblowingly outstanding stellar performance from Messrs Hewitt,Whatley and Daniel ...I'm in thrall to them !!
Always remember ..NO auto tune!!
Genuine talent on display.
i liked watching the folks in the crowd gettin down you can feel the vibe
@@johndupont8628 Ummm..... I don't know about that, but they were very attentive.
@@sharoneasley9717 Excellent comment
They loved London. This is so awesome. Where have all the good sounds gone?
I miss those days. Def one of the greatest groups ever (w/Jody Wately).
It’s still getting played at my Besties 60th next week 🎹🎼.. We love a bit of Jaz Funk
That Jody Watley.....Omg
que bonitas epocas,,,, la gente VIVIA,,,,,,ahora sobrevive
Jermaine Stewart on backing vocals here .... Shalamar were cool as f***..... Howard's outfit 💪🏼... When you dress for a Star Wars audition at 8pm and a live gig at 9pm.
Shalamar 80's were the best ♥️🥰
Disco performed live....FANTASTICO!!! The musicians are concentrating, especially the drummer ; you can see it on their faces...tempo is vital.
This performance would be easy to achieve today with all the autotune trickery but achieve this level in 1984! What a groove, bass, drums and joyous vocals… pure talent!
This was 1982 by 1984 it was a different , Ms Jody and Jeffrey Daniels was gone
True
This was in 1982.
The next year in 1983 before
“The Look” album was released,
Jeffrey and Jody left the group.
Made people so happy !! ❤🎉
Superb. Actual live too.
Great performance, I remember watching this in 1983, I think it was part of the “midsummer nights tube” show
The original hit makers. Good to see them together.
The beginnings of greatness. The absolute funk of Howard Hewwit voice. The subtle vibe and dance energy of Jeffery Daniels and the smooth excellence that Jody Watley delivers....combined, the harmony are nothing short of glorious. My favorite all-time band. From "Just ride my horses at my ranch" lowball record label mogul Dick Griffey to climbing mountains to a stella solo rnb career, Jody Watley delivered in full. Sorry Dick, Jode has her own ranch now and some.... Girlfriend was and still is the real deal!!!
Brilliant band Shalamar, tight always on the groove and sound just as good live as on record
This was fabulous. I certainly enjoyed this. My favorite group. Howard is so cute. Jeffrey fine. Jody beautiful.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT....
My boy Randy melancon playing keyboard 🎹 on this show
Was looking for a real live footage of that group and here it is!
I appreciate a lot👏👏👏
Absolutely stunning, cant stop playing this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost 40 years ago...mad lol
Jody Watley, what a peach. Thanks for posting this, remember seeing this on The Tube, pure awsomeness
Jody!!!!
This is probably Friday 10th December 1982, since they were on Top of the Pops the day before. That would have been show number 6 of The Tube since it started on 5th November and was a weekly show.
AND IT WAS REALLY LIVE!!
I love You for ever ♥️♥️
man this was a real treat
It would be nice if the 3 of you would put away your differences and do it one more time,. Life is short.
Howard Hewitt was fine specimen, sings divine, looking back now as a 50 yr old, child then.
a great performance
EXCELLENT Performance from one of my favorite groups. I know Jeffrey and Howard are still performing as shalamar, and Jody has a wonderful solo act that covers shalamar's catalog...but I'd like to see them come together again and tour.
I remember this like it was yesterday. So much talent in one band. Criminal.
The bit where Jools Holland proclaims the amount of private jets and limousines it took to get them to Newcastle is missed off the front end of the introduction. Hilarious.
You just don’t see such bands that often nowadays, which is a shame.
AWESOME ,,,
Wow Shalamar are amazing love there songs ❤
Damn that groove is mighty fine
What a classic performance by a classic 80s band ...but .... it does me sad in a way ... what happened to those care free days ... have the modern generation taken the world to a darker place ??? This kind of music WAS uplifting and brought EVERYONE together... the younger generation needs to lighten up and get on with ALL generations AND colours... come on guys... give it a try!!! It doesn’t hurt 🤔
Exactly. Even the so called positive songs of today...they lack love, feeling and emotion.
I totally agree mate live for the weekend drink dance and girls no black & white thing dance floor’s always full kabob on the way home
Sorry kebab
They were really big in the UK, defined my teens in the 80s, . I was jealous of my older siblings being able to go to nightclubs to boogie to Shalamar as I was only 12😊
I couldn't have put it better
So good! Thank you Shalamar!
So many good memories of the eighties 1982 ,Shalamar is awesome and The Late Great Mr Jermaine Stewart rip we miss you so much.
I was twelve, this was a big year of my life.
what a great historical record of an amazing band!! What amazing live vocalists and entertainers
That live performance was great
The bass guitar!!!!!!!!!!!
It's great to see this RARE video clip. There are not that many videos of Shalamar performing with Jody where they have a live band and are singing live. The old Soul Train clips are all lip syncing.
Groovy🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Love it!!!! Howard is still fine AF in 2020 😍😍😍
Wow thanks for this. Never seen anything like it before. With jools show it’s strictly live performance only and they nailed it! 🎉
I remember seeing this when first broadcast....I was mesmerised by their performance....brilliant............only other performance that sticks in my mind was Wet Wet Wet on The Tube
Good songs
What wonderful lightning in a bottle Shalamar(with Leon Sylvers' music/production)was. Howard and Jody , the voices with the awesome dance moves of Jody and Jeffrey and of course the hip and sexy look they all had.
Love it, love it, love it! Jody... gorgeous!
Back in the day I was in a New Wave band, but when I went clubbing this band was who I used to love dancing to.
Amo esta banda. Amo esa chica. Son increibles. La musica disco nunca morira
Saw shalamar at frontier club in batley 1982 , they were simply stunning , always been a fan of theirs ,
(SHALAMAR)-SHOWSTOPPING-HARMONIOUS-AMAZING-LYRICAL-ALUMINATING-MUSICAL-AND-RHYTHMIC.
Fantastic - thanks for sharing.
Jeffrey was a force! He was the whole package: sing, dance, play, good looking🙌🏽🙌🏽 I just recently found out he was the creator of the moonwalk (he called it the back slide), not Michael Jackson. All these years and I only found out a few weeks ago. 😮 I remember in someone’s documentary. Quincy Jones said MJ stole everything 😅 Teef or not, he’s still the king ❤
Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley were Soul Train dancers before they were in Shalamar. Daniel taught Michael Jackson "The Moonwalk".
