JOdy, Jeffrey and Howard did reunite in 1996 to record an remake of their classic For The Lover In You with Babyface and LL Cool J. Babyface wanted to produce a Shalamar reunion album but it didn't happen due to Howard wanting to get paid more than Jody and Jeffrey. They later reunited to record a song for Jody's Flower album but the head of Jody's label didn't like the results so Jody had to re-record the song solo Jody tried to reunited with them many times but it didn't happen due to scheduling conflicts and Howard and Jeffrey consantly telling lies about her to boost their egos. Jody has no ill will against them but they still can't accept the fact that Jody has did better then as a solo artist.

Also, Howard was a heavy cocaine user & tried to r3pe her. She didn't feel safe around them. Jeffrey was a known woman beater. He beat up Stephanie Mills when he was married to her too.

Dick Griffey put his daughter in the group - after the version of Shalamar with Howard, D'lisa and Micki, then - Micki, D'Lisa and Sidney Justin. I went on to bigger and better things as a solo artist..people should really give it a rest. Howard and Jeffrey can't work as Shalamar without Carolyn - just facts and they need the work, so let them get their coins (though they have to pay her 30percent lol. Their act is just a charade.

Wow..not the version I've heard about why they all aren't together as original Shalamar..ego and lies came from Watley camp and her demand for top billing..by why let the truth get in the way of your editorial bs story..
First of my story wasn't BS and I never heard of that. 2nd I've listen to many interviews that Howard has done many times and one minute he says she has issues and other he's begging for a reunion.
I listened to a few Jodi interviews and believe you’re both correct. My understanding is Howard had a bit of an ego, which caused infighting within the group. I don’t recall the specifics on why they split, but when Jody wanted to go solo, Howard essentially said (allegedly) she’d be nothing without him/Shalimar.
Fast forward to Jodi blowing up and Howard’s solo life not getting quite the same fanfare… Howard was eager to reunite, but Jodi was still hurt from past remarks/treatment, etc. Her schedule was slammed and Jeffery was busy with MJ’s choreography and wasn’t interested either. However, when Babyface came calling, they jumped at the opportunity.
Howard has tried numerous times to reunite, but Jodi just wasn’t interested. The thrill was gone and at the end of the day, she was a massive success without him. I’m pretty sure she’s aware that a Shalimar reunion will benefit Howard, and kind of enjoys having this over him (I’m speculating, to be clear). But, isn’t it ironic how he assumed she couldn’t survive without him, when actually the opposite has proven to be true.
@@candicoatedraindrops You did state facts. Howard thought that she wouldn't make it when in reality she's still releasing hit singles and albums, performing sold out shows. Her current single Everlasting just hit # 1 in the UK and she hosts a successful radio show. Jody did stated that she also tried to reunited with him and Jeffrey in the 2000's and 2010's but it didn't happened due to scheduling, and Carolyn Grifrey saying that he and Jeffrey had to get perrmission from her and she wanted to sing background. Howard thought wrong and Jody came out the winner

Howard and jeffrey definitely look great for their ages. I do think that the quality of Howard’s voice has gone down a little bit during live performances. I’m sure that he sounds better in the studio, given that they have a lot of equipment that could enhance his sound. That being said, there are a few great singers whose voices have changed as they age. But thanks to albums and CD’s, we can always enjoy that original sound for a long time.

Love the hosts' energies! Everytime I watch these type of shows I ALWAYS wish the hosts would act like these two did during musical performances. It annoys me when other hosts just stand on the side and at most just clap their hands and sway. Especially with dance songs, I'm always like "C'mon! Dance! Do SOMETHING!!

Man this was informative and they recognized Watley’s legacy instead of trying to ignore it. Howard and Jeffrey aged well even though the years have taken a toll on Howard’s vocals. He still sounds good but he was one of the all time best singers out there. The hosts especially the dude we’re getting into it.

@@pauljohnson4539Not true, Jody was in the original real Shalamar lineup, she and Daniels replaced sessions singers used for a demo group and they formed the group for the first full album that featured "Take That to the Bank." Howard Hewitt was not part of the group at that time, he joined later.

I would see any of these old acts because I missed them when I was younger!!! Also, even at 50% they are better than most of today’s acts hands down. Finally, not to mention the song writing was so much better back then
My mother's generation called the moon walk the camel walk. My mother taught me the Camel Walk when I was 16 years old. Wow!!! One of their tunes was always played at the skating ring.

I saw Shalamar in June 2023. Absolutely fabulous. Took me right back to being 20 years old and dancing the night away to Night to remember.

I went to High School with Carolyn back in the early 1980s in Chatsworth, CA. She was such a sweet attractive young lady.
I grew up a huge SHALAMAR fan from day one! They're one of the greatest soul music acts in recorded history period! Howard Hewitt is an incredible vocalist.
I agree that it would be great to see the original band as is the case in every situation, but, big props to Carolyn for being there today because she's also part of the legacy.

Well Gerald Brown was giving Jeffery the what's for on dancing and was a great singer. I really wonder what the group would have been had he stayed with the group. I know he ducked out because of the same thing as today. The contract wasn't right. I hope he had a happy life. That one song started it all.

Fffffinally, I had a flashback of them on soul train & didn't make the connection in untill now....I'm 65 sooo, yes in UK....the TV was like I was praying to meca....it WAS love at first sight.....😅🤓👍...it's a 'small' thing, but good god for me?
