This was one of the most uplifting feel-good positive conversations I’ve ever heard too! Yes , you are so right. It’s Unfortunate Its not everyday that you hear these beautiful words from someone . I LOVE the resurgence of our legends: Stephanie Mills....Jody Watley....New Edition....the Isley Brothers, etc. It's like they felt the strong void in our culture. Also, I'm grateful for Jennifer Hudson using her platform to allow the aforementioned legends to shine. Jody was right: the 1970's---early 90's was a golden era of R&B ( I'm a 1976 baby, so I'm biased😏 ).

@@RJNumber45the “uniqueness” of that particular song is that she understood that in order to sing it, she would have to sing it in a “deeper monotone” than her actual voice. her producer at the time, and later-boyfriend, Andre Cymone, wasn’t sure if that was the right song for her, but Jody insisted, and was willing to sing it in that deeper-monotone that was required.

When she came out with her solo album she inspired me to walk away from a toxic relationship that I had been in for almost 2 years.
I played her cassette religiously. Her words, the beats and vocals permeated through the deepest parts of my pain. Jody was with me everywhere.. I took her to Europe with me in March of 1987. 🥰
By the time my healing completed, I looked up and a year had gone by….Jody was still there. The pain was gone.
