Never liked that one of theirs. I couldn't get over how when they heard Smokey sing & forgot everything how did they know it was violins they were hearing 🤦😂
I remember I bought the 12 inch extended vinyl of that ABC song and used to blast it out on my (cassette) stereo and speakers in my fiesta mk1 at the time as a young 18 year old (It probably was not even that loud, I think the stereo head unit cost me £5!). Those were the days. I'd forgotten completely about the Beastie Boys being around, another album I used to try to harm my young ears with, happy days ! Lovely to see Simon and Janice in this....

It is indeed, such a shame the beeb will never release goodies like this in full because there is no official release of it on any format :/ i will see if i can find more youtube will allow xD
Basically the finished product with a few minor rough edges shaved off in post production. Nothing too Juicy! Janice Long seemed genuinely lovely. A natural enthusiasm and effervescent that didn't seem forced or artificial. fitted the tone of the show perfectly.

Just brilliant. when music was good. Thought the firm were great still have this on vinly on hits 6. Not sure where my hits 6 cassettes went. I so want a time machine

it is very interesting indeed to see just how it was filmed and edited, I got it with countless others from an archive, unfortunately I think the BBC have banned alot of ones featuring jimmy saville, which for me is particularly sad because if you ignore that monster your left with a really rich history of both music and visual effects. It was made by a group of film students in their own studio over the course of a week, as The Firm didn't want to appear in person on the studio. Apparently, the video was only just done in time and handed to the BBC just a few hours before TOTP was recorded.
Well that is because martin the lead singer of the pop band ABC was using a dummy mic when performing that song on top of the pops called When Smokey Sings. So yes Martin from ABC was miming , he was not singing that song live , and when T'Pau lead singer Carol Decker mime to her hit song Valentine on Top of the pops in February 1988 on the same stage where Danny Wilson mime to his song Mary's Prayer. That drum kit never belong to T'Pau , they did not bring it into the top of the pops studio
