Who else in 1981 could've totally carried off a cape like Adam Ant did? The look was so new and fresh. And the music was great! This song entered the British charts at #1 and stayed there for five weeks! Long Live ADAM AND THE ANTS!!
Adam is an icon- Johnny Depp has stolen his style amongst others. He has entertained so many and worked so hard he deserves more recognition- love him!
And I also agree that just because lip-synching is being used, it takes nothing away from Adam's massive on-stage persona and incredible talent. He always was, and still is, one of the greatest showmen in the music industry: his performance here proves that, lip-synching or not, he has talent, energy, style, class and elegance which most artists can only dream of possessing.
Incredible performance. Biggest shame nowadays is not having shows like Top of the Pops, American Bandstand, Solid Gold anymore for artists to perform their new hits.
I remember Seeing "Adam And The Ants playing At The Palm Springs Collage Auditorium; On the year of 1981 in August, And When The drums Took off to start "This KILLER ASS song!" THE CROWD WENT So 'CRAZY',and we went NUTS. It was THE Most Killer Day of my life. I almost want to shed my tears of missing Those Days of the GREAT 80, Era and the best Decade ever.I want to young again.( ('I LOVE YOU'; 'THE 80,s'.)
I was born 1971 - you can imagine when I was 10...I dressed and looked like this for most of the time - then followed by the Prince Charming look! Loved the 80's Loved Adam & the Ants and still do if I'm honest!
Can that man work a cape, or WHAT??! Awesome stage presence. performance, costumes. Love the song! Thanks for posting. Remember back in the day, you might sit by MTV for hours just hoping to see one Adam Ant video....and if you got up to go to the bathroom, THAT"s when they would show the video you''d been waiting for ..... Now we can see them all anytime we want!
I actually remember watching this very episode back in 1981 when I was just 13. We'd never seen anything like it - I was totally mesmerized!! It was just the start of what was then known as the British invasion. By 1982, New Wave had kicked off proper and everything changed - it was such an exciting time. :)
I remember I bought the lp of Kings Of Wild Frontier it came a promotional single of Stand & Deliver. I thought the was so bloody cool gimmick. Fuck I miss those days.
I saw these guys at "Le Club Montreal" In April 1981 when I was 15 ... To this day, possibly the best concert I have ever seen. I heard a clip at the end about what was coming next.... The Plasmatics????
I remember hot chicks in my school having serious problems with Adam and the Ants. But I lived in the moment -- I adored this stuff - I ate it up. It was also the best video on MTV - hell, it defined it. As for Triumph and Asia? LOL.. must you ask?
I remember seeing this first at the time on top of the pops.l feel their best hit for me 😊 great video to go with it always liked it very cutting edge. More power to ye 💚👍
This recording is better than others i have seen on Utube. The sound is closer to the power of the song as i remember it. Good base. Most of the other examples i have listened too on Utube are tinny accentuating the voice of the singers and undermining the instruments.
AATA always were a class act. They did get a unfair hard time and the genius all-round great sound look and freshness never got the accolade it deserved. Sooo unfair I believe cos they were a good looking bunch of guy the 'industry' took a dislike to them. I think now though the music and the men are being appreciated more. I'm 44 still love ANTMUSIC and The man himself. AM4SP
"Adam & the Ants" are a very funny "Punk`n´Wave" Band! I do like them very much! In the Year 1978/79 i heard them at the first time, on one of our "Schoolpartys", (Kiel, Germany) as a little 13/14Years old Teenie! The song: "Stand & Diliver" had animated me, to be one of the first ones, going on the "Danceflour" during this time! It had been a wounderful Party, "Blondie- Heart of Glass", "Gary Numan- Are friends electric?", etc.!! ;O)...:O)...
OMG! I was barely in junior high and that was the last time I saw this one! I remember we were at the dinner table watching Solid Mold and they Marilyn and Rex introduced Adam and the Ants. I just remember sitting there eating and specifically saying, "I like Adam and the Ants!"
I borrowed this record from a friend, I must've played stand and deliver about a thousand time, the song just blew me away, it's was different, he had the British look to a tea
On certain shows, I believe American Bandstand was one of them, the bands were told they couldn't play live and if that was a problem, they weren't on the show.
Robert Cousland Exactly why The Beatles wouldn't perform on top of the pops. They wanted to sing live. They only performed once in 1965, but John Lennon made sure everyone knew they weren't live
My goodness! Plus I just found a video here of No Doubt and some others doing a remake of this live in Cali. Ah, what memories this song brings back. Can't stop smiling.
I was looking for the original music video of this, they took it down. A good but not great song, this is fantastic as AA is such an electrifying performer that its almost hypnotic! There is just no way you can have some effete guy in a corny pirate getup sell this unless he's got a real gift! Its as though were being taken prisoner aboard ship under the Jolly Roger and methodically tortured with charisma while sailing into the sunset on a sea of penultimate 80's cool!!
Great was the time later when tv eventually gave over to musician's wishes to actually perform live. You could usually see more disasters in the miming than if they were actually messing up the song. These guys played a huge pioneering part in the introduction of music videos by trying to get the production to increase the budget for a song
Who else in 1981 could've totally carried off a cape like Adam Ant did? The look was so new and fresh. And the music was great! This song entered the British charts at #1 and stayed there for five weeks! Long Live ADAM AND THE ANTS!!
would be nice they appear together in am movie playing pirate characters.
@@OrdoSanctiBenedictus I wouldn't doubt it is where Captain Jack Sparrow got it's pirate look and character from.
Adam is an icon- Johnny Depp has stolen his style amongst others. He has entertained so many and worked so hard he deserves more recognition- love him!
So very true in the Depp vs. Heard debacle
AA = Bipolar warrior
Depp is a poor imitation of Keith Richards
Adam ant freaking awesome rules
I used to fancy Depp but all of a sudden I went from being a Depphead to an Ant Eater!!
Adam and the Ants were a breath of fresh air at the time...and Adam STILL ROCKS!!!
the greatest line of all british poetry: da didley qua qua!!!
agreed!!
Agreed, Shakespeare made up words too.
LMAO! I think only Adam Ant could pull that line off!
@@ilovethe80s71 celtic better!👏👽😼⚓
2 drummers to get that antmusic where it needs to be...gotta love this band
I wish I could go back to the 80's and then I would dance without end to this great music from this wonderful dream man ....
He was so unique and creative. Pure theatre.
Still seeing him in concert 36 years later. STILL SMOKING HOT!
Hoping to see him in concert next month in Atlanta. Better late than never, lololol
i remember seeing this for the first time on solid gold, i was amazed! 2 drummers! im 55 years old & still like it!
And both drummer's where shite take a look at Chester and phil playing together in genesis that's proper drumming
adam ant and andy gibb? a perfect intersection of a certain breed of 80s
Adam Ant-- 80s in the best possible way. I'm from the days of Stand and Deliver. Miss this music. Adam Ant still here still touring. ❤️
Incredible performance. Biggest shame nowadays is not having shows like Top of the Pops, American Bandstand, Solid Gold anymore for artists to perform their new hits.
finest man that ever walked upright
Denise Evans Elvis first..😁
I would give anything to own that outfit Adam is wearing - it is my absolute favorite one he ever wore !!
Lords of London for the cloths he's wearing.
I saw him back in the early 80's. Loved him, his clothes...the whole package!
I remember Seeing "Adam And The Ants playing At The Palm Springs Collage Auditorium; On the year of 1981 in August, And When The drums Took off to start "This KILLER ASS song!" Bless you Robert :)
Adam and the Ants with the very best track of the 1980's 'Stand and Deliver' ......
jack cockling he ain't no holla back why do you think gwen stefani gets her influences
There was nothing like this at the time or has been since!! Brilliant I loved it!!
No else can stand and deliver like Adam Ant
Gawd we were young and awesome. This lives forever man. :-)
I was born 1971 - you can imagine when I was 10...I dressed and looked like this for most of the time - then followed by the Prince Charming look! Loved the 80's Loved Adam & the Ants and still do if I'm honest!
Adam's style was amazing and the music so memorable, it still sounds great now
Two Drum kits Brilliant well done for keeping up guys. Adam and the rest of the band you sounded fantastic Weldon
Marvellous combination of theatricality, musicality and originality!
Absolutely Excellent Classic In Every Way An Unique Classic Still To This Day 🦅☠
43 years later, Adam is on tour. NYC, I'm looking at you!
Adam Ant has been my favorite singer since I was 12
Can that man work a cape, or WHAT??! Awesome stage presence. performance, costumes. Love the song! Thanks for posting.

This was the first time I ever saw Adam. It was love at first sight.
omg this is awesome I was a scrany kid listening and dancing to this.....
Everyone's first crush.
One lucky bastard. While it lasted.
Not mine. Paul McCartney was mine.
throttle Mine too, at 9 years old. If I was older back then, would have been a groupie too!
I love The Beatles, I think John was better looking than paul, but I definitely think Adam ant was very good looking
Chantelle Adlington I think Paul was better looking then john
This incredible group defined the 80s!!!!!👍
I fancied him like crazy in those days!!! ❤
Such a DANDY...how I adored him...wanted to BE him. Such panache and swagger. WOT!
Gina Heitland Yep AA had it all back in the day. Saw him live in November and boy oh boy did he bring the house down. 🙏 🌸
THIS is the version I was looking for!!! Loved when this came out!
Love this song
I would dance the hell outta this song especially the drums. Loved
Antrap too
Incredible lip performance from the entire band. Every strum, vocal and drumbeat is spot on. There's something to be said for this scorned art form.
It still exists. Just ask Paul Stanley. 🤣
Oh my God in 1981 I was not keen on Adam and the Ants I just found the guy quite handsome but the music...Now, I realise it was good!
I actually remember watching this very episode back in 1981 when I was just 13. We'd never seen anything like it - I was totally mesmerized!! It was just the start of what was then known as the British invasion. By 1982, New Wave had kicked off proper and everything changed - it was such an exciting time. :)
I was 7 and only remember watching Happy Days and Buck Rogers.
You had it good then. I was 18 for the year of 1992 when music began to suck.
+Nemie Sorry the British Invasion started in the early 60"s
Great performance as always by Adam and especially with Andy Gibbs (RIP) doing the intro.
I was 9 years old and rocking out. Great music, great times.
Still have this on vinyl. Perfect condition.
i love love love adam ant... great music...
Lordy, Lordy...he makes my eyes so damn happy.
damn the drumming gets me everytime
I love this song so very much! Why wasn't I around in the 80s...
The double drum kits such a great sound !
I saw him in a movie once. I thought his acting skills were quite good. Better than more accomplished actors.
The music of the 80s was the best!
Brilliant
I remember I bought the lp of Kings Of Wild Frontier it came a promotional single of Stand & Deliver. I thought the was so bloody cool gimmick. Fuck I miss those days.
'Even though you fool your soul, your conscience will be mine...' God, how I loved him back in the day...
I saw these guys at "Le Club Montreal" In April 1981 when I was 15 ... To this day, possibly the best concert I have ever seen.
I heard a clip at the end about what was coming next.... The Plasmatics????
would of been awesome to see the Plasmatics too! I never knew Solid Gold was that cool! lol
lucky bastard
+Neal Ford That was from SCTV. John Candy hosted a spot called 'The Fishin' Musician' and they were the guests.
"da lili qua qua, da li li qua qua..." Brilliant originality.
Adam & The Ants rule!
xoxo
The Clarences
at age 8 adam ant was the most awesome guy in the world to me..
i sooooo loved this one and i loved Kayagoogoo too with too shy :D the good old days
The coolest pirate music!
I remember hot chicks in my school having serious problems with Adam and the Ants. But I lived in the moment -- I adored this stuff - I ate it up. It was also the best video on MTV - hell, it defined it. As for Triumph and Asia? LOL.. must you ask?
Good song love it
Brilliant! The first album I bought! Loved it! Thanks for uploading this, it showed the original members of the band.
Adam and the Ants was my first concert! At the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, 1985(?) Wall of Voodoo was the opening act
Sweet. Mexican Radio rules!
I remember seeing this first at the time on top of the pops.l feel their best hit for me 😊 great video to go with it always liked it very cutting edge. More power to ye 💚👍

I remember watching this live on solid gold. Def my fav adam & the ants song. I also love the Plasmatics on that early sctv show, Classic!!
We're the dandy highwayman and here's our invitation!
The dual drummers is so unique and packs a punch. To this day, Adam uses them in his concerts.
Class band dont get mentioned enough about there greatness to music Dublin ireland 👍🇮🇪
great song great energy! adam rulez
I Love Adam and the Ants 😍✌️... greetings from New York 🗽🌹💝😍✌️ in March & April 2020..😍🎶🎤🎹
Message to people putting out today's "music": learn what a hook is. This is a hook drenched tune.
+wanda vel Indeed, this song glows guitars. Marco delivers, alrighty. Guitar solo's great too.
I was born in 2006
in my mind this goes on the number 1 song for me
You missed the good life.
Good life? I Was born in 72'.

Andy is long gone, but Adam still marches on.
superb in concert still , !!!
Absolute flipping banger

Un look superbe et une super chanson qui tranchait nettement avec ce qui se faisait à l'époque. Que demander de plus ?
Awesomeness.
I remember watching this on TV and being sooooooo excited.
love the song!!!!!!i love adam ant he is handsome the drummers are great
i have the song on a tape i forgotten i had i m so happy i found this!!!!!!
Great songs..loved them all

Andy Gibb, Adam Ant, 👍
No Doubt made this song so much better! :)
he was so cute back then.
On certain shows, I believe American Bandstand was one of them, the bands were told they couldn't play live and if that was a problem, they weren't on the show.
Soul Train was one of those shows too
Not surprised but that's a shame. Soul Train had several groups that would have absolutely killed singing and or playing live.
+Robert Cousland That's the exact reason The Clash wouldn't do Top of the Pops in Britain...
futuregirl3 I read about that
Robert Cousland Exactly why The Beatles wouldn't perform on top of the pops. They wanted to sing live. They only performed once in 1965, but John Lennon made sure everyone knew they weren't live
two drummers wonderful
That guitar and drum sound will never be equalled.
My goodness! Plus I just found a video here of No Doubt and some others doing a remake of this live in Cali. Ah, what memories this song brings back. Can't stop smiling.
Correction no doubt ft the great lead singer of Paramore Hayley Williams
I was looking for the original music video of this, they took it down. A good but not great song, this is fantastic as AA is such an electrifying performer that its almost hypnotic! LMAO!
1:43 greatest instrumental ever
Beautiful
Solid Gold? Now I officially feel old. Adam and the Ants were a distinct group indeed.
Great was the time later when tv eventually gave over to musician's wishes to actually perform live. You could usually see more disasters in the miming than if they were actually messing up the song. These guys played a huge pioneering part in the introduction of music videos by trying to get the production to increase the budget for a song
simply magnificent. great upload, thanks
@jmolc - thanks for the comment and jogging my memory about the Plasmatics. They were both on Solid Gold and SCTV. They were amazing.
Oh.. geesh... I remember this episode...
and the culture club ofcourse :D and so many more
