Adam's comeback in 2022 was nothing short of spectacular! He was every bit the performer he was back in the day, and live he still had the double drummers and crack band to make "Ant music" live again❤️🎸😎👍
As a 15 yr old at the time this started my life love of Adam Ant, met Adam and Marco at the back of Ipswich Gaumont concert in 1981, still have autograph !!❤❤
I love the double 🥁 drums, live or not, god bless 🙌 marcò perroni Adam ant ,merrick Terry Lee, Gary tibbs legends forever timeless thank you 😊, please reform.
I remember watching this while in boarding school in Haslmere Surrey. Our detention was always during Top of the Pops if that tells you how much we loved this show.
Some cutting edge computer graphics at the end there! My eleven year old self went mad for Adam & The Ants. Bought all the 7" vinyls, including Young Parisians, although I was confused as to why it didn't sound as good as the others ... Still have Kings Of The Wild Frontier album on cassette. Still plays and sounds great all these years later.
like many, a part of early secondary school experience. used to try & sing this walking home from school to be frustrated by lack of lyrical awareness.
@@switchbladeromance1466 He's a doll. One of the few men I've ever fancied and he's way too old for me. My whole school used to like him back in 1984. Hbu?
This was a KROQ Los Angeles radio staple for many, many years after it’s debut. I still remember when I first heard it because I was taping it on a cassette recorder in the car. They mixed in ‘Pale Shelter’ by TFF and then followed it up with another TFF song (KROQ used to call double-pairs a ‘ROQ Block’) with ‘Change’.
I remember first hearing the song on the Sunday evening countdown. The song stood out and made me take notice. I think I missed this Top of the Pops probably previously. But a stinking beginning. Taking out that staff towards the end was rather brilliant.
Sometimes the so called shit of today, becomes the music of tomorrow. All the bands which have revived different types of old music, Dexys Midnight Runners, Madness, Showaddywaddy.

That was THE moment Adam & The Ants became massive. Those who tuned into TOTP didn’t know what hit them.
Saw less than a minute of it on TV while in a record shop... I bought the album instantly!
In the US, MTV made Adam & The Ants.
I still think this fucking rocks. Two drummers, the lyrics, the Ant! Blows away the shit of today
@@bloodystump3 agree.
still listening to them at 53
Almost 60
52 here. Still sounds as good as the day it was released.
Remember watching this gobsmacked......then straight to the record shop after school the next day!!!
yep me too
I was 12 and remember saving up to buy the album, it was £3.45 and to this day priceless
Brilliant

Their first appearance on "Top Of The Pops" and like everyone I was just blown away. A couple of weeks later they'd gone from #37 to #5.
Still listening to them at 58......
Me too
From Pythons Michael Palin to Adam Ants debut TOTP appearance how absurdly cool is that!
The Away Adam moves..
I love their unique sound..
This is by far one of my favorite live perfomances.

Kevin Mooney on the bass. Gary Tibbs didn't join until 1981
So many people tried to mix the Burundi black drum sound into their music. The ants succeeded.
When our new wave radio station WLIR played this for the first time it was mind blowing... MIND BLOWING🎉
Pure magic.... acting out the warrior archetypes...🔥😎
Part of my youth, great tunes , great times
I still love this ❤ I was 11 when this came out and this album meant a lot to me - I still have it actually.

Still sounds fresh and innovative now.
Agree. You just don't get either these days.

Bands are so fucking boring now compared to this
...I bet your dad said that in 1980, while watching an old film about Rock and Roll!
Loved this version of the band... ⚡☠️💥
Legendary.
They had such a great sound.
To save you wasting nearly 2 minutes of your life it starts at 1:45
Thank you!

@ 02:30 - Did he really just sing 'fuck me daddy-o' ?
I can't believe I never picked up on that for the last 40 odd years 😆✌️
No sound coming.

Alan Freeman?
Drums are padded
Nobody really bitched about lip syncing back in those days?
Preferred it.
a bummer that it was dubbed/lip synched... sigh
People always say that under TotP clips, and I will never understand why.
@@SM-dt1pr It's like people going on clips of wrestling and posting "it's fake you know" .
Top of the pope wouldn’t let them set up and go live, not enough time
