- Adam Ant: How I Wrote Stand and Deliver - live session
Famed for his flambouyant videos in the early 1980s, pop highwayman Adam Ant visits the Guardian studios to talk a little about the myriad ideas and some of the reaction to his greatest hit, Stand and Deliver - Hudba
Whenever I listen to Adam and the Ants....my neighbors do, too!!
When the window cleaner made up lyrics because he didn’t know them. Adam states “ there were some really good additions to it”....😂👌🏾 what a legend
So happy to see this guy bounce back… I have a new found respect that has has nothing to do with his music and more to do with his modesty, humility, and charisma. The guy has style in bucketloads
When is this man going to get old!!!!!!!!!?????????
Adam Ant, what a fucking star
There's something really cool about rock musicians when they've reached middle age They still radiate the energy of their more youthful times, but, now have a maturity and wisdom acquired from their experiences over time to complete who they want to be.
You might be older Adam Ant but you still got it. ❤
Adam Ant gets better with age. He is a very dashing gentleman isn't he....
facepalm
+Alex Nuget why
@@Anony_mouse2 I wrote that when I was 10 omd 😂😂 I have no clue what it's about or how to understand what you wrote 😂
@@AlexNuget oh shit!
That was a line Adam said in the above video, seemed appropriate at the time☝🏻😆...but considering yer age i take it back 🥴my bad.
@@Anony_mouse2 it's okay 😂 funny how you get reminded of old comments years later 😂😂😑😑
In 1981, I recorded (the original, single version of) this song on my answering machine! I used the part at the beginning, where a horse is galloping, then Adam shouts, "Stand and deliver!"...then I said, "That's right! Stand and deliver...your message and the time that you called when you hear the beep...and I'll return your call later! Thanks for calling...'Bye!" I traveled to London in 1984 and brought back all kinds of posters, magazines, buttons, cards and photos...with Adam Ant on them!
Corny af, but I like it.
I got to see Adam Ant with INXS as his opening act in 1982 twice. I loved his albums as Adam and the Ants. Prince Charming... not so much. After hearing how he was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and manic depression before he even tried to become a singer, I have nothing but respect for him. He never drank or did the illicit drugs, and got screwed over by doctors and the media anyhow. Glad to see he is able to garner some love and respect again. Take away the glam pirate-Indian stuff, and he still produced some GREAT rock n roll. Too many morons didn't get the show aspect and ignored the amazing music. Kings of the Wild Frontier is an awesome album anytime, anywhere. I was sad to see he was in the USA earlier this year, but nowhere near us. I see he has dates in the US in September, and if they hold up, we will get to see him... 35 years after first seeing him.
Me too
The Warfield in SF . INXS opened for his Friend or Foe tour. Amazing show! My.two fav!
KOTWF is a masterpiece LP, & nothing has ever sounded like it, before or after
Anthony Dodge The Model Train Outsider I saw 2 shows of his,as Adam and the Ants and the goodie 2 shoes. He was fantastic. He and the ants were underrated. The fact he is still with us,proves he was no flash in a pan.
@@kimyuers Saw the show at St. Johns University in Queens, NY!
Saw them in Pittsburgh that year & still listen to them dandy Antz!
Marco Perroni deseves a lot of credit for the guitaring & riffs. Not mentioned enough.Great guitarist..
Largactyl Kid I was thinking the same.
"it's marco's time" love apollo 9
It's a very Mick Ronson sound isn't it? Circa Ziggy and Lou Reeds 'Transformer'. I think he mastered that sound beautifully.
Yes can't believe he didn't mention Marco, he was half of their creative output from 80-90, couldn't have done it without him
Apparently Adam thinks that Marco was the source of some bootleg recordings that were released a number of years back. Marco denies that he was the one who passed the recordings on to the bootleggers.
ADAM YOU ARE SEVERELY UNDERRATED AS A LYRICIST, MUSIC WRITER, AND A WELL SEASONED PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN. AMAZING "COMEBACK" AS THEY SAY. I REALIZE THE STRUGGLES YOU HAVE HAD TO ENDURE, PROFESSIONALY AND PERSONALLY. YOU ARE A CHAMPION FOR MANY. CHEERS! MATE. THANKS, BUD L.
Saw Adam and the Ants live in Central Park NYC when they made the spectacular entrance by boat. I've seen hundreds of concerts and his ranks in the top 10. He was an amazing performer and at the time had a control of the audience on par with Jim Morrison. Also, Adam pretty much INVENTED the rock music video as we know it. His vision was years ahead of anyone else. He's remarkable.
This is the masterpiece in terms of melody as well as the lyrics if you ask me.
Really can feel the punk in this. Would love it if he did a full session with the two guitars. Bet it is awesome. Really enjoyed this!!
Absolute LEGEND!!!
Thirty years on and still Rocks, great version of a classic song, raw and full of energy............brilliant!!
Rest in peace Tom.
Better than the majority of so called music these days. Passion, exemplified
Interesting vocal version of his own hit - Adam is just as good looking as he was when I saw him on his Prince Charming Revue Tour in 1982 in Birmingham, England!!
You Stood up & delivered Adam Ant 🐜 & you will always be a Legend to us ! ! Just Stay HAPPY Fella . , God Bless 🙆🏻♂️
Adam Ant definitely assisted in my coming of age in the 80’s!! Still Love 💕 My 80’s
He still rocks.Yeah......🤘🎸
RIP Tom Edwards. A really great musician.
Freaking insane! Musical Genius!
Those guitars sound freaking awesome!
It is interesting how Adam Ant has, in a way, followed my own life path. He was my first teen idol and mimicking him in our Adam and the Ants playback band in my first middle school years was in fact my own first experience with a stage. It got to love me two things: singing my ass off on the songs that I love in front of people and not giving a rats ass about it how they thought/think about me. Second, it was my first experience with an artist writing his own songs, and although I finally got to write my own songs since 2018, I claim Adam Ant for giving me the first goosebumps to try it. Now for the life path which we inconsciously followed both: it was some five years after my own bipolar diagnosis that I learnt he had gone through this too, and now that I see him again, he, same as I, got to value it as a valuable life experience. Artistic people like he and I have to go through deep paths sometimes to deliver songs.....but it is a path that I would never, never want to be anything else. Thank you very much for those lessons , Adam aka Stuart Goddard.
Adam ant the coolest rock star, history Of planet earth
The Leni- Lenape were a great influence on my dedication towards all human rights.
I was born in Boston but raised in southeastern Pennsylvania and northeastern Delaware.
I grew up in a beautiful land that reckoned days of equality and ecology.
Having bestowed of this idealic landscape, I question those that degraded such peace and seek to reclaim those that were displaced by my Yankee ancestors.
I speak to you now more urgent than ever to remember me and my friends who rallied your career and forward my message as I figh
t inflammatory breast cancer.
You entertain us...and I was informed by your message.
Let's go forward with expression;
Let's go forward without transgression;
May we equally we stay in peace and love until the next day.
Hey, kid, rock and roll
Hey, kid, rock on....
What a real music icon Adam, along with the ants, is!!
"Oi Adam Stand and Deliver! Pick me up then!"
hahahaha
Saw him in North Wales a few weeks ago, and he was amazing. Best act I have ever seen live!!! The sound was amazing
I was such a big fan of Adam Ant (Adam And The Ants) and his music! I've probably seen him in concert at least 6 different times! I even talked my mom into driving down to San Diego (I believe it was in the mid-to-late 80's) to see him there! She didn't really want to go at first, but I finally convinced her! During his last song, (You're So) Physical, he tore off his (wet) shirt. My mom tapped me on the arm and said, "Now I see why you like him so much! He's SEXY!" I'll never forget that night!
I'd never seen this before-thanks so much for posting it! I've been a HUGE Adam fan since I was kid. He's aging like a fine wine and is as handsome as ever. Love him to bits! ♥
people are like a fine wine age with time and adam is a great exsample of that saying
The first original pirate, cant wait to see you next year have waited 40 years ❤ loved him then and now
Like the other person said, the guy is 58 years old! And I've seen him live in 1981 and 2012 and I can assure you, the 2012 concert was the BEST live concert I've ever seen, and I've seen Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, Robbie Williams, Queen amongst others
Repect to this guy. Been through some tough sh*t in his life. Good on you mate. Keep going. Love this version of the song.
I was fascinated with Adam and this song. I dressed up like Adam Ant was in the Stand and Deliver vid for Halloween.
I love his Lou Reed-like vocal delivery in this.
More like Oliver Reed.
Nice arrangement, parred down and raw, very cool.
Sounds absolutely fabulous with the two guitars!!!!!
Legend.
Always and perpetually in love with Adam,💜💖🌹🇺🇲🙏One of the best artist
I still listen to his music, he still rocks
Happy birthday gorgeous Tom you will never be forgotten by us ant people xxxx
Go see this man. The beat itself makes humans go mad lol. So good
dude after 40 years.. still going stong over here. :-)
The type of guitarist who touches his knob and doesn't turn it down when you tell him he's too loud.
Studio techs told him, "Dude, you gotta turn your gain down onstage, so that we can put you in the mix properly, or you'll feed into the vocal mic, because we gotta turn it up so much because Adam's whispering.
So he touched his knob and didn't turn down.
Result.
Always my favorite song!!!
It's so weird to have this without backing vocals or the drums..its made it more relaxed
I caught Adam Ant in Seattle about five years ago. The guy has lost nothing and totally rocked the house with all of his best tunes. He even did a T-Rex cover (Bang A Gong) during his first encore. I've been a fan of his since the 80s. He's one hell of an artist.
R.I.P Tom sweetheart 💋💋
I cannot wait ! Going to see the lovely man in L.A. Feb 2012!
Da didely qua qua!
So how was it?
@@stevefirth7237 It was really good. I've seen him perform since.
Was my first ever gig, in 1977. Like me he has aged like fine wine ;)
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of ......& Adam most definitely lived thru that
Love ❤️ it 👏👏👏
I have such good memories of it, thank you
'Give the guy a break! He's nearly 60 years old now! Well, 57 actually...he'll be 58 on November 3, 2012. Let's see if YOU look as good when you're turning 58!
Dedication tis medication, he's one year older than mee, 66 this year💞
He looks great.
Absolutely love this song and this version of it....
hell yes! Adam Ant delivers. I wore out at least two cassettes of "kings of the wild frontier" back in the day.
great!!!!!
Magnifica actuación, después de más de 30 años de compuesta suena mejorr
Adam ant is cool
Been a fan since he was the ANTS, 1981
I love this stripped down version!
Saw him last night and it was very enjoyable.......
i've been a ant fan since goody two shoes came out in the 80's and even he changed around verse two and three i think this was a very good version of one of my favorite adam ant song
That guy with him is good, Adam has a knack of getting together top musicians wanting to work with and learn from him but it'd be great if Marco and Ant sorted the differences out and he maybe joined him for a song or two at a gig sometime...
Love love love this music ❤
Sounds Like Blur have some fessing-up to do!! For sure this is clearly not a song built on foundations of sand... Pop-Craft of the first order! BRAVO 🏆
That's pretty cool. Nice little jam session. Got some grit like from Physical.
Superb!! Love to hear it so stripped and raw like that!
Good job, Adam & pal!
Oooooffftt hes still got it 😍😍😍😍😍
Excellent.
" Oi Adam stand and deliver?"
" Well pick me up then!"

Great introduction. A good education goes a long way! Solid reworked version.

marco pironi and gretsch guitar gave adam and the ants that amazing sound
Actually, didn't Marco play a Gibson Les Paul Jr. double cutaway quite a bit?
@@HumGuitar Yes he did.
Love it!
check out a great and original pirate song by them called jolly roger.great lyrics and fantastic vocal range from adam.
I LOVE IT!!
Great guitars sound. Loved the song still have the 7" single...🎵👍
This is fuckin awesome
Think this a great raw live version actually! Something that's sadly lost in these modern, backing tracked, false vocal days.
You can’t see that this is mimed? 😂
Hi, Great to see you again with your friend also on guitar. . I hope things open up for you both.
You gave such pleasure in the past vocally and visually and I look forward to seeing you in action again. I hope you like my video responces. Perhaps you will be tempted to use one of them Ha Ha He He Best wishes Happy Christmas and New Year To you and yours.

La chida jajaja. Eso nunca se va a superar. Que locura. Ya tengo harta a mi esposa, pero me vale verga. Y estoy disfrutando la música.
