BAD SHIFT LINK BUSHINGS - how to tell

  • How to tell if you have bad shift link bushings. While this is an extreme case if you have flop in your stick this may be why. I'll post up another video later about how to fix this.

There are a couple different types of shift bushings in there. You have the shift linkage bushings like these here: www.fastwrx.com/products/tic-...
They are the "links" from the shift knob to the transmission. When these are worn out they give left and right play.
Then you have the shift stay bushing like these: www.perrin.com/shop/shifters/...
These don't have "linkage" on them they are just "stay" bushings to keep parts of the shifter mechanism in place with the car. When these are worn they often give forward and aft play.

When I had bad bushings it wasn't floppy like that but wouldn't go into 2nd gear and rough going into 4th. Bushings fixed that right up.

Question, I thought this was the literal shifter bushings on the shifter not on the linkage. Because mine isn't sloppy at all. It's just hard to go into 3rd now because apparently my shifter linkage is stretched out

  • @joshuagoodsell5952

My manual 1999 accord wouldn’t go into second gear today and when I pulled over it wouldn’t go into any of the gears. Like not you have to push hard, it wasn’t going in😹. I tried to get it rolling and into second and she went in but it was basically like it wasn’t in gear when I came out on the clutch nothing happened so then I pulled over again turned it off and it let me put it in first so I started with the clutch in and it kinda started rolling on its own which makes me think it’s a hydraulic problem with the clutch, I was able to put it into second for real and ride it home. Do you think it’s a clutch disk, hydraulic, or linkage problem? Thanks.
