    You all realize the 1178 and 1155 nailseat boots along with the Irish setters 866 and 877 are some of the truly original redwing workboots that have performed in rigorous conditions in just about every trade/craft, ranch/farm, heavy industry setting known to man, right? For longer than any of us have been alive these boots have performed as WORK boots. I cannot understand how "walking 5 miles in NY city" proves anything about the durability of a boot that remains unchanged for over 70 years. They're more "heritage" than work for a reason. They haven't needed to change that heritage because they're a real, generations proven, WORK boot.

      Bro, they are wearing old plastic water bottles as flip flops now in the name of fashion. I'd rather they wear these than those.

  • @JohnnyRebKy
    @JohnnyRebKy Před 2 lety +4

    These are what I call the original Redwings. I started wearing them in 7th grade and I’m now 37. I buy a pair about every 6 years and wear them every single day. The good news is they last a long time and are tough. The bad news is they are always stiff and uncomfortable when new. It takes quite awhile to break them in. Once broken in they are like a old pair of slippers 👍

  • @1SixpenceFan

    I just bought a pair of 1155 boots a week ago.
    Years ago my uncle gave me a pair that he had worn for 20 years and they were very comfortable.
    The new boots aren't as comfortable as the old boots yet but I'm sure they will be after they're broken in.

    There is a detail of the buffalo hide boots you display at 8:56 that I like. It's the subtly ornamental pull on strap. I had a pair of brown Pecos that were lost in a move. I almost got the 1178 Pecos a year back, but I went with the OG 1155 Pecos instead - I thought the western heel suited the boot better than the block heel, but hey I live in Texas so the boot fits I guess.
    Makes sense why they would be low-stock or MTO in Brooklyn; at my local RW stores, they have TONS of Pecos in stock, in almost every size and width imaginable.
    Couple months back, I had a cobbler narrow the boot shaft, so now they fit better under my pant legs.

    • @CJCook
      @CJCook  Před 3 lety +1

      That is so cool! I like the 1155s. I would replace the composite heel stack with leather.

    Those are great looking and look extremely comfy with the cork soles those are the best for city walking in my opinion. I am finding a happy "in between" place on heel heights (1 1/8") when it comes to western boots. Too tall can get unstable once leather starts to break in and loosen up you may roll an ankle easier lol. yes it is important to get a nice snug fit for pull ons as there are no laces or straps like engineers have. Thanks for getting me interested in western style boots I am currently sanding/scuffing the leather soles on my Tecovas that came in today. Also I should be receiving some Rios of Mercedes from Ebay tomorrow. Cant go wrong with brown westerns that leather looks gorgeous when broken in! Talk soon Brother!

    I've been looking but no luck. Where could I find older/vintage Red Wing model numbers. At Goodwill I purchased some Red Wing (Nailseat?) roper boots. Same color as the boot you have but these are older. They don't have the Pecos branding and the toe is not as chunky as the current Pecos line. It has a narrower toe. It looks like a straight up regular roper boot with the oil proof soles that come with the current Nailseat. Model # is 1922 or 19221. On the outside of the right boot Red Wing 83 is stamped on the shaft. Not sure 83 is the year. My guess is that these are an early 90's boot. Anyhow, they are badass. Was just curious to gather a little more info on them. I wear a 8.5EE in the Iron Ranger but these are size 10B but and me perfectly with thinner socks.

      Hi sorry, just one more question, after a year of wearing this boot, would you recommend them? Do they age beautifully? Im about to hit that buy button.

      @@sergioflorean2189 Yes, they are very comfortable. They age like the 8111s.

      I would immediately take the 1155 to the cobbler and have them place a leather stack on the heel.

      @@CJCook I bet Red Wing would make bank if they came out with a real western line. Pecos with a true leather sole and stacked heel would be perfect.

    Hi. Do you own Style 8187? In Brown Boomer Leather? What is the Difference between 8187 and 1178?
    Thank You

    • @CJCook
      @CJCook  Před 3 lety +1

      The 1178 is the Work version the 8187 is the Heritage version (share the same leather). The 1178 are more comfortable because of the Poron sole.

      The outsole. 1178 has the nitrile cork and the 1155 has the chemi gum with a stacked heel.

      @@CJCook Thank you! I wasn’t sure if the differences went further than the soles and insoles. I’m used to wearing 1132s, my current pair is around 5 years old and I’ve worn them almost every day. I just got a pair of 1155s and while they’re comfortable and look good, I’m not crazy about the high sole. Only remedy would be to buy a pair of 1178s in addition to the pairs I already have! 😂
