    Mounting the Defender Door Lock on the top of the door and adding a floor-plate door lock or another Defender Door Lock at the bottom of the door, will make them out of reach and out of view to an intruder. And because they are equally holding the weight of the door at both top and bottom, the door will not even budge if the criminal tries to kick it in. This dual lock approach is the strongest.

    • @husher5142
      @husher5142 Před 2 lety +2

      its worth noting that impact will be at the center of the door. It would be better to do it mid and top. Although obviously with a glass door that means mid could potentially be unlocked

    • @jennifer86010
      @jennifer86010 Před 2 lety +3

      @@husher5142 This all depends on the rigidity and strength of the door materials. If the door is very rigid and strong, a lock mid-height and below the strike plate will equally distribute any impact. However, the best approach is to use 3 locks, opposite each hinge on the door. If this door is rarely used, then 3 locks would be best, however all glass or window doors are vulnerable. This door appears to be a side kitchen door. Before doing anything, this
      homeowner should install a double-locked deadbolt. This requires a key to unlock the door on both sides of the door. It impedes intruders who would break the glass and reach in to turn the knob and unlock the deadbolt. Fire danger? Yes, in a fire exit situation, occupants need to have access to a key to unlock the door for quick exit, however if a key is kept near the door but out of reach from an intruder, this approach will always prevent easy break-ins.
      Using the double-keyed deadbolt, in addition to the Defender door lock is the best approach, other than putting bars across the door or replacing it with a solid door and better locks.

      No I don't. Sorry. Ring and the like will do it. This will sound funny but install an old school Tinkerbell above the door. Well people might be able to hack into smart homes and Bluetooth this and Bluetooth that sometimes old school analog works. Every time. Make sure the bell is able to lift up and and out of the way during the times you are home. But when you go around the house to lock up at night make sure he can easily be put down on the edge of the top of the door. If you have dogs this will alert them.
      I know there are tricks to open garage doors with a long hanger. Fine I also have a big bell tied to a string once it opens it'll go gong. It takes a little effort but well worth it.

    That's awesome that the lock did its job. I think it's insane how so many houses come with entry doors with windows like that when it's a known fact it makes it that easy for someone to break in. My advice if you can't afford to replace the doors with something more secure is to get some security screens over the glass to prevent that from happening again.

    This would have been useful when a robber stole my dads bike from the garage. But he actually stole it back with the help of his friend, but I believe the same thief tried to break in again because, even though they didn’t steal anything this time, the doors lock system and handles were all broken. The reason he still couldn’t get in was due to a bunch of pillows blocking the door. I wonder how the defender lock could have changed this. Anyways, thats an insane story Phil! Hope you and your family are alright after the attempted break-in.

Put them all over your house and get a conceal and carry and read the local self defense laws in your area or contact a lawyer in your area on what is winnable in court for self defense when these losers families try to sue you for dfending yourself and property.. But no one that has there house built says to there self, oh man my first priority in my brand new home needs to be, replace that door. It just doesn't happen. Maybe it should but its not. That's the reality. That's why it's stupid. It's a general basic smartass comment that implied people put doors with windows on the back of their house on purpose. Further more, the added lock is $12. A new good door can be $300 to who knows how much, not counting installation if you don't or can't do it yourself. There are a lot of factors involved as to why. 1:07 "No.....I don't think they (burglars) are probably not smart enough to break the glass, reach in and unlock both locks. Truth: Do not ever underestimate the ability of a professional burglar or assume his ignorance. The best course of action is to make the deadbolt lock keyed on both sides, with a spare key hidden near the inside area of the door.
    In some states/towns, double-sided keyed deadbolts are not legal code, for fear some people could not easily exit during a fire. If you do use double-sided keyed deadbolts, make sure the spare key location is easily accessible to people inside, and its location is known to everyone inside the structure.

      @bagman234 Před 2 lety

      That's true, but a $10 security lock has the added benefit of making it difficult for a man to kick the door open quickly, provided the screws are long enough. There was a case a few years ago in Fort Worth where a 14-year-old was strong enough to kick open the door to an apartment where he proceeded to murder a woman for a game console he saw through the window. At least with the added lock you have an extra 30 seconds to arm yourself.

    • @jennifer86010
      @jennifer86010 Před 2 lety +1

      @@bagman234 True. Any locks that are properly installed are better than nothing. If they slow down an intruder who is kicking the door, the sound should give most people some time to flee or defend themselves with other security items. One of the biggest problems is people leaving their shades open so burglars can see what is inside, and the biggest security violation is people who open the door for complete strangers and unknown people.

      @jennifer86010 Před 2 lety

      @@bagman234 Normal human behavior is to not recognize a potential problem until it occurs. People who have never been victims of crime often live in a naive bubble world of casual careless vulnerability, leaving their homes, businesses and themselves open to opportunistic criminals. Two of my neighbors were burglarized, due to their carelessness.
      One, often left the garage door open at night. Hit twice before deciding to tell all family members to close the door after arriving home. The other neighbor left curtains and shades open, and the rear of the home completely visual, since they enjoyed looking out at the view. Hit twice, because the home was such an obvious open target.
