@@justeliashere You've gotten very lost, friend. This is a socialist podcast you're listening to. You'll find no allies here beyond a handful of hate listeners. To answer your question, in Marxian economics, capitalists are exploiters of workers. The root word for capitalist is capital. Capital in this context means "the physical or financial resources used to produce value in an economy". This can be in the form of machines, money to pay wages or intellectual property like the design for a type of car. So a capitalist is a capital-person, someone who earns money by owning businesses and paying people to work for them. The work produced by their employees is worth more than the capitalist pays them, for otherwise there is no profit. This allows capitalists to acquire more machines, pay more people, and get even richer. Their enrichment is therefore directly correlated with the extraction of surplus labour (work that is beyond what is needed to survive and therefore creates wealth) from the worker. This is known as the capitalist mode of production, and is the main way things are produced in the vast majority of the world. Ultimately a capitalist can grow so powerful that they can influence elections, break most laws with impunity and essentially completely isolate themself from the vast majority of people. The capitalist becomes weird and alien, and his (or her!) interests diverge from humanity at large. Billionaires are generally way past that point, and have no idea of the life and struggles of the majority. Democracy means rule of the people, but as capital accumulates, liberal democracies become oligarchies ruled by a wealthy elite. For democracies sake, economic power must be redistributed to the masses. Votes do not matter so long as politicians are more swayed by lucrative post-retirement speaking engagements payed for by billionaires as a reward for cooperating with lobbying groups than they are by the will of the electorate. Therefore, billionaires are the enemy and all their gains are ill-gotten. Do capitalists produce a valuable service? Ultimately, most capitalists are utterly worthless and do more harm than good as far as I can tell. Well, are there any alternatives? Yes! Capitalist free companies exist. They're called employee cooperatives and are democratically controlled by their worker-owners who all own a little bit of the company . Statistically, they're more productive, more resilient, have higher reinvestment rates, are better for their employees and for their local communities. So why are they so much rarer than capitalist firms? Because they have trouble attracting investment. Banks are leery of lending to them (banks are controlled by capitalists) and of course, the main forms of investment supply money in return for ownership which is something a worker coop categorically can't do. There are ways to alleviate these concerns, such as the Marcora law of Italy (which was severely restricted by the EU for being excessively competitive, despite far larger subsidies being routine for private corporations). However, such laws are insufficient for resolving the issues of the capitalist mode of production, and a revolution will be needed. For further reading, I would recommend all three volumes of Marx's Capital. It's impossible to summarize several thousand pages worth of analysis and data in a couple paragraphs, but it's all there if you want to learn more. After you've done that, we can go through the economic developments of the 20th century. Also, I am not an expert on the subject myself, so I have doubtlessly made some mistakes with my explanation.
Ah I see that makes total sense no wonder. I just stumbled on this video on my recommended and was shocked to see people's lack of sympathy for one human being.
