“ULEZ Can And WILL Be Scrapped” The Men Fighting To Bring The ULEZ Scheme To Its Knees

  • The expansion of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) has sparked a fierce backlash from motorists who are now facing daily charges of £12.50 if their vehicles do not comply. This has led to an increase in attacks on ULEZ cameras and calls by senior Tories to slash the scheme in favour of hard-pressed motorists. The scale of this criminality is significant, with hundreds of cameras being damaged or stolen across the city.
To discuss how members of the public are fighting back to scrap ULEZ, in this week's Crime Suspect former Met Detective Peter Bleksley is joined by 'Mr. ULEZ' Noel Willcox, anti-ULEZ campaigner Paul The Orange Dinosaur and former Met Superintendent Shabnam Chaudri.
The ULEZ scheme, which aims to reduce pollution levels in the city, has raised concerns among motorists who feel it is simply a cash grab. Many argue that the signage is unclear and does not provide adequate information about the charges. Scaffolding business owner Noel Willcox, who was hit with fines totalling £11,500, successfully challenged the fines in court, arguing that the signs were not lawful. Despite the court ruling in his favour, Transport for London (TFL) continued to pursue him for the debts.
The ULEZ scheme is expected to generate around £174 million per year for TFL. While the funds are intended to be used for improving transport systems and reducing pollution levels, critics argue that the money could be better spent on other priorities, such as increasing police resources to tackle crime. Protests and campaigns against the ULEZ scheme are growing in numbers, with campaigners like Paul the Orange Dinosaur gaining attention and inspiring others to join the fight.

You just have to buy the correct highly polluting car.
Personally I'm a big fan of the Mazda RX8. Not only does it struggle to get into double figures for MPG but it also burns loads of oil whilst doing it.
You could however go for an E46 BMW M3, a 6 litre v12 Bentley continental GT or the 3 litre diesel from 2002, a MK1 focus or a 1.8 Audi TT.
There are plenty of fun and highly polluting cars you can buy quite cheaply.
I must admit, I don't fully understand the ULEZ scam. All I do know is it's another reason why I won't visit London or any other city who wish to impose a fine in people visiting.

The police shouldn't be wasting their time investigating the cameras stolen and damaged when there are people who don't get the same level of service when cars, bicycles, and motorcycles are stolen. They sure don't go looking for cctv or forensic evidence when someone has their bike or motorbike stolen, even when that bike might be their livelihood if they are a delivery rider for example. The mayor is abusing his position by insisting the police investigate these incidents when there are more important things they should be doing.

This also affects thousands of motorists and companies that travel into the zones from the home counties who don't have fair representation on this matter. As soon as most non-compliant vehicles are off the road, they'll just move the band up to newly include the next load of older vehicles. They'll just keep moving the goalposts, so that anyone who isn't constantly trading up to newer vehicles will keep getting fined. It IS therefore a tax against poorer motorists.

Was getting sick of being late to work because the train driver couldn't be bothered to do his run. In the year 2018, I counted how many days the train was on time.... 8 days. 8 days out of 365 my train was on time. It hasn't gotten any better since. My colleague is late every day because TFL won't sort out their service, and their excuse every day is 'signal failures.'
