I’d say blame goes 80-20% bill wasn’t giving Ethan an easy time but ultimately it’s his podcast he should have been able to turn the conversation around.
I don't blame Bill at all honestly. If you're going to have a guest on who's well known why wouldn't you look at their previous content to see what they're like and find some talking points? If he already was aware of these and still surprised Bill responded the way he did, then that puts him even more at fault to me

even though bill burr is the more experienced podcaster in this situation Ethan should have been the podcaster and let bill be the comedian. leave himself room to laugh at bills jokes without getting offended. in hindsight you can really tell that this hurt Ethan, and I think it made for the verbally aggressive Ethan we know today. Ethan was too fresh for this interview when it happened.

I highly doubt he was all fine before the said episode and was completely crushed by it. He was probably struggling already and this interview was the catalyst. Also it isn't really like a conversation with a stranger. Ethan idolized Burr to some extent and got torn up on a podcast that would be seen by a ton of people.
It’s almost as if Ethan did zero research on bill before this interview
People don't realise it is not about Bill not "wanting to be there". H3H3 projected insecurity, didn't ask interesting questions and didn't bring the conversations forward. Bill noticed that and pushed on those sore spots, thats how he is. If H3H3 would've relaxed, asked questions that actually interested him and not just for the sake of asking something, and acted more like two homies conversating at a bar, then that episode would've been great and Bill wouldn't reacted like he did.
