    I’m looking at this more as an iPad replacement than a pc replacement. Love the portability, battery life, silent nature and pen support of the iPad. But I’ve gotten frustrated with its software limitations. So whatever compatibly issues this thing has, is still leaps and bounds better than the iPads lack of software because of the simple reason that apple doesn’t want it there

      The iPad is a tablet, the surface pro is a laptop which also can be used as a tablet / watching multimedia device (because of W11). W11 has been improving the tablet experience a lot, but it’s quite not there yet. I bought a Samsung Tab S8 and I use it as tablet + almost desktop and it’s great; then I have a Windows laptop. I sold my surface pro because i wanted more tablet feeling and W11 doesn’t provide. Android is a very good tablet experience, personal computer and most things I need from W11 I can do there. But it is not a complete replacement. Nor W11 is a replacement for a tablet…

    I have to say that you have a lot of technical information at your fingertips, and that's a good thing for any reviewer. For me, though, you seem to enjoy the sound of your own voice too much - you tend to pontificate on, mostly, areas of opinion rather than the other. Not to say you can't give an opinion in moderation, but when elaborated too much and too often it very distinctly comes across as implying motive and, perhaps, criticism based primarily upon your opinion.

    @mademedothis424 Před měsícem +3

    For the laptops I agree that I'd take performance some of the time, or more accurately I'd take a bigger battery and trade off weight instead.
    But the Surface? The Surface is a big phone with Windows in it already. It's a media consumption device with a keyboard to write emails. It needs two things: running a browser and staying on.
    The Surface's biggest flaw has always been its battery life. It's the reason I brought a second device with me when travelling. I don't need it to be the most performant thing. For that, ASUS makes a hybrid with a discrete GPU in it for the same price. What I want from Surface Pro is basically meeting the iPad Pro where that's at with a full desktop OS and that kickstand form factor which should be the default for all tablets.
    On that front, this is enticing, although I'd like to get more granular info on how much better the battery life is on normal tasks and with no fan noise. The fast on/off with no battery drain is a big plus already, though, because traditional Intel windows portable devices have unacceptable behavior when on sleep. The first time someone got their laptop bag hotboxed by a laptop that seemed to be turned off except for radiating the heat of a small star the entire thing should have been reworked from scratch.

I still have all the benefits of putting it in performance mode when not plugged in. Obviously that consumes a lot more battery life during that time, but I have all the access to its performance if need be.. as it stands, there is no benefit to upgrading to the snapdragon version. The AI technology in the snapdragon version will be worth it in the future but as of right now there isn’t enough things that utilize it. Better battery life seems to be the biggest take. I have not run into a problem with my current version of not having enough battery life when I needed it. I can get 6 to 9 hours on my current surface. It was nice to see your excitement on getting a new device but i must say after watching very closely for months and listening to the extreme hype from qualcomm and microsoft it is a little hard to go easy on them now but i will anyway. The cpu is actually good and gets good benchmarks but is fighting a translation layer. The gpu is more towards cell phone than pc level, i doubt any real 4k editing is likely and so the oled loses abit of its usefulness and charm for that use. We all know that gpus are important these days. The prism layer is not looking ready for primetime yet from the reviews. The NPU has no real current use except for blurring backgrounds which gpus do just fine. I could easily be wrong and it is just an opinion, but i feel $2100 after tax for 16gb and 512gb ssd that is for watching youtube videos mainly and browsing and emails is just a really hard sell for most people.

      @@Techno_Rama sure. But the value proposition here is, for the first time, to have the cake and eat it. This is what Apple users have enjoyed since the M1 introduction. Great performance in a silent and long lasting slim package. I do not know what is for you the demographic of an iPad Pro + MK + stylus at 2200€ versus 1500 for this SP11 but there is a public for that. And many people, like me, have no interest to carry a 3kg gaming laptop. Let's be realistic: until today, there was NO light laptop / 2-in-1 with enough performance for most tasks (beyond gaming) and even less that could last more than 4-5 hours of real usage while also not dividing the performance by half when unplugged. So this is clearly a revolution. And if it was necessary for AMD or Intel to, at last, propose something competitive, so be it. It had at least this merit.

    The benchmark are not synthetic. They are real. Even software going through translation later gets 85% performance compared to Intel 13th Gen. It's real, man.
    Battery life in snapdragon goes as far as 27hrs. That's far much more than you can ever dream to get.
    These things are highly recommended. Your recommendations seem to be highly personal than factual.
    Native arm software has crazy performance far much more than x86. Same with Apple, these speeds are just synthetic.

    • @ahaimes6320
      @ahaimes6320 Před měsícem

      Battery life is very subjective, and 27 hours is only achievable if you watch local media with everything else off and low brightness. Actual workflows are much less, and I have seen reviews with as low as 4 hours and an average of about 8 hours of SOT (not standby). These figures are for the OLED devices. The better SOT has been on low-resolution IPS panels running at 24Hz.
      As for performance, I'd like to point out that benchmarks could be more realistic as they thrash the cores without considering the OS, optimisation, OEM power settings, app compatibility, etc. For example, a few of these X Elite devices throttle 33% (Vivobook) when on battery to fake battery life. Even Samsung throttles on battery.
      So, no revolution. Watch Max Tech MB Pro M3 Pro versus Surface Laptop for an actual pointer as to how far the X Elite is behind as of the here and now. It is shocking.

    It's a beautiful bit of hardware, but at nearly $,2000 for properly configured Pro with keyboard/pen.... I'll just keep my $600 Robo & Kala Snapdragon 8CX (Gen 3) system. Configured with 512BG of storage, 16GB of memory, Windows 11 runs great on it, as does LibreOffice and social media and video consumption. I bought the R&K when they were first released and on sale (normally $800). That included the keyboard folio and a stylus (which works great with Microsoft Journal).
    It isn't really that the R&K is such a great little laptop (although it certainly is). The important message is that the R&K tells us what these devices should REALLY cost! The R&K proves that major manufacturers have been ripping us off for years.
