If you watched him at the start of the season he was constantly making runs of the defender but never got the pass. As bad as the season has been, sinking ship is a huge exaggeration. Any intelligent person understands that progress (especially in football) is almost always non-linear. Every club, (even united in the initial ferguson era) goes through a transitionary period before becoming successful again. It's important that United commit to the transition like Arsenal and Liverpool have in recent years because that's the only path to sustainable success. This is the worst United will ever be and they'll finish 8th, maybe 9th? It ain't the end of the world.

Problem for Utd is nobody will want to go there now, they will have to really invest in recruitment and get young players. As anyone who is established won’t want to end up in that black hole of a club.
The conversation over Man Utd v Chelsea’s core is mad. Man Utd had a much better ‘spine’ than Chelsea.
Even with Cole Palmer, Man Utd had an answer to that in Fernandes. Scott McTominay outperforms both their £100 midfielders. I’d pick Dalot, Wan-Bissaka and even Shaw over their fullbacks who are injury prone (James) or unreliable even when fit (Cucurella) and I’d pick Martinez over any of their centre backs. I’d take a raw Garnacho over either of their erratic wingers.
Nobody is looking at Chelsea and seeing where the that spine is outside of one player.

To say Chelseas injuries aren't comparable is ridiculous. We've lost our two right backs including our captain, 1 possibly first choice LB, our 2nd and 3rd best centre back, our best forward in Nkunku and all our backup CMs in Lavia and Leslie U. Our back 4 would be completely different. But even then Its not an excuse for us or Utd. We've both spent tons and bought injury prone players and then not strengthened in the right places. With our resources the players should be the best looked after in the league with quality back up across the board

The worrying thing is that they cant fix everything in the summer, max two/three players out and maybe two/three in. That leaves far too many bad eggs left and if this current league form (say past 10 games) continues, that will be relegation form
