Perhaps somewhat related, I have a feeling that Ferrari's secret agreement with the FIA after the 2019 season meant they were forced to run their engines below what they were capable of. The 2019 engine was illegal mainly due to fuel flow and some oil burning, and I feel that removal of those wouldn't have had such a drastically negative impact on Ferrari's performance in 2020. So perhaps the FIA mandated that Ferrari power units had to run in a low performance engine map or something the entire season.
You're onto something. Mika Salo revealed that Ferrari had to use less fuel than the maximum allowed 100 kg / h for the entire F1 season in 2020, which was a penalty for using too much fuel for most of 2019 when they managed to fool the FIA. Look it up.
so that explains all the "slow button on" bs
Nah they had designed the whole car concept around a powerful engine. If they have more power they can use more downforce without loosing much top speed. When they had to change the engine the whole concept faulted. Too much drag and to little horse power
I think everybody agrees with that
@@phoenix1279 This and the fact that Binotto was quick to dismiss the rumors that Ferrari were sandbagging during preseason
I’ve watched the official F1 2007 review DVD and the end of the interviews with Lewis and Fernando. Both didn’t even look that disappointed, more so Lewis missing on being first ever rookie world champion. You saw in 2008 with massa how devastated he was losing championship by 1 pt.
I think if it was rigged or not, it was sporting right that Kimi won that season with mclaren Spygate scandal, would’ve made sport look bad if a team stealing another teams data used it to their advantage and win championship.
Well done Kimi, plus from 03 and 05 bad luck, he got his title in the end.
I can see that
Alonso knew that it was going to be impossible since Fuji. And his car wasn't fast during all the race. He knew he wasn't going to win.
Hamilton had all the race to accept his championship was lost. Massa felt he was champion during some seconds, and then he wasn't. Massa didn't have time to accept it.
This is just a theory they fabricated 10 years later, and british fans are just taking it seriously.
F1 conspiracies are definitely gonna become the new trend on CZcams, I can see it coming
@Lala ok bot

if he won 2007, it may have caused kubica to never crash, vettel to not win monza in 2008 and fernando a 5 time world champ… you never know, its called the butterfly effect
If he had won in 07, Massa may have a working engine in 08 Hungary with 3 laps to go while in the lead, he might have won it. You never know.
If he didn't have such abysmal luck in 2012, he never would have decided to sign with Mercedes. But yeah, the world of "what if's" is pretty crazy
If he hadn’t had an engine failure in Malaysia 2016, hadn’t beached in the pit lane, he would have gone even crazier in Austin 2019
The team could've screwed Hamilton over. However, we have seen teams and drivers do BS strategy calls, even when they aren't in tense positions.
Like George Russell's pit stops when he was filling in for Hamilton at last year's Sakhir GP? Cringe worthy.
@@Indium111 I'm sure there's a conspiracy theory attached to that, too, something along the lines of they didn't want George to win because if he did, the pressure to replace Bottas with Russell for the 2021 season would have been too great, etc etc etc
@@killbillvol69 It would have also reduced Hamilton's negotiating position with Mercedes since Russell would, undoubtedly, command a significantly lower salary. My dad had this very theory that someone had switched off Lewis’s car in the last race to sabotage. It did all seem very suspicious at the time. Wonder if we will ever know and if Lewis will spill the beans on what really happened.
Legend says that if lewis' controller didn't disconnect he would have won 8 titles already
Bono my controllers are gone
*9
His controller also disconnected at at Baku this year
People just always need something to blame. So coming up with outrageous theories is not even a surprise anymore, given how much controversy there was in 2021. For me, it was just down to bad luck honestly. A driver is human so naturaly they can make mistakes (Hamilton in China 2007) and no team's car can be entirely perfect (Gearbox error in Brazil 2007) despite how the Mercedes car ran for most of the hybrid era.
Alonso should have won 2007. If his team wasn't against him he'd have won it, as he scored more points than Hamilton in the later half of the season.
Crazy, its all bias...for me the conspiracies of 2008 are far more believable, but the british tweeter and the fbi will lock u down if you speak about it
@@eggselent9814 Fair enough, he had a great chance going into the final race. I guess luck just wasn't on his side that day.
@@eggselent9814 That's a complete lie. No team would favour a rookie over the reigning world champion.
Alonso's preferential treatment was clear when Hamilton was told to hold position at Monaco or when Ron Dennis admitted that he favoured Alonso over Hamilton in Australia in the pits which allowed Alonso to jump Hamilton. At Monaco, Ron Dennis basically admitted that he decided who was going to win before the race even started and that's after giving Hamilton 5 laps more fuel than Alonso in qualifying only to then take Hamilton off his pre arranged strategy switching him from a one stopper to a two stopper and he ordered Hamilton not to fight Alonso for the win. After this race, FIA investigated McLaren for the use of team orders in the era when team orders were banned and Dennis realised that the best course of action was to give Hamilton equal status to Alonso from Canada onwards. Alonso's #1 status was made even more obvious at the Barcelona test where he asked Dennis not to include Hamilton and Dennis granted his wishes, which is pretty shocking when you really think about it. That's not mentioning how, before the season even started, every crew member wanted to work with Alonso, not Hamilton, for the obvious reason that Alonso was the proven reigning world champion who had just dethroned Schumacher and was seen as their best chance for success. None of them wanted to work with Hamilton because it was regarded as being assigned the #2 car and there was political infighting behind the scenes with some team personnel even going against protocol by asking senior members of staff to make sure they worked on Alonso's car.
Alonso equaling Lewis is hugely misleading. He basically had zero bad luck in 2007, while Hamilton had a puncture in Turkey which gifted the podium to Alonso, China, Brazil where he had gearbox issues and of course in Australia.
Alonso also made several mistakes in 2007 which cost him the title. So you are saying Alonso's terrible start in Bahrain, him bottling it at the start against Massa at Spain or him going off the road multiple times in Canada, him under performing in France, and crashing in Fuji was the team's fault? That is SUCH A pathetic excuse.
@@mrbungle3310 Eh, any conspiracy theory is just that, a conspiracy. If any investigation was launched and the results actually proved one of them, they probably would've put it out there by now.
An emp to effect Lewis' race.... F1 is literally cars 2
It would be somewhat believable if we didn't have any similar cases of teams consistently messing up. Ultimately though, there are also Ferrari strategists during Vettel's days, Mercedes' strategists since 2019, Williams cars since 2018, Haas being Haas and many more so it just looks like incompetence caused by pressure.
Stress for the crew due to spygate casuing mistakes in strategy calls and just general bad luck for Lewis. He ain't always #blessed
People also seem to forget he was a rookie! This was his first season in F1! The pressure was surely getting to him, it would anyone this early in their career. #blessed maybe but definitely not #perfect
Talk about merc knew about the hybrid era engines waaay before everyone else in 2007(Everyone else found out in 2010), Niki Lauda confirmed it in 2017. It might explain their dominance in the turbo hybrid era!
Mohit, you are correct.
That's not a conspiracy theory, that's pretty much a fact. Mercedes went as far as to threaten to quit F1 if the hybrid power units were not introduced. Merc had a head start of like 10 years of development.
@@tilley31 how weren't there any consequences to this tho? :(
@@6710345 Mercedes played it perfectly. If FIA said no they could quit saying "we wanted a more sustainable engine for F1 but FIA said no" and it would've been a PR nightmare for the FIA. Yeah, I remember that. This was the day I began considering it seriously. Buxton isn't a conspiracy kind of guy normally.
no there is no conspiracy. Kimi deserved that title as much as lewis or fernando.
Kimi was the smartest of them all. He was constantly collecting points in the background. That's why he deserved to be world champion.
With 30 points behind the mclaren drivers he had worked his butt off to make it happen. Well deserved championship for kimi.
Nobody expected Kimi to win the championship with 2 races to go. It wasn't his best season. He also only led the championship once after the 1st round with Hamilton leading the entire year. @@PeRRXX Its a controversy, theres gonna be a few more planted ones like a McLaren engineer being told by Ron Dennis to fuck up his gearbox or sth
Remember when Renault was caught with McLaren data a few months later? You probably don't, it was quickly swept under the table because the FIA/FOM wanted to keep Renault in F1 long term. This kind of stuff probably happens more often than most of us realise, either with people not getting caught or settling things with secret settlements.
The main reasons why the FIA went so hard on McLaren were a) political posturing against a team that was as a threat, and b) Mosley's personal grudges against Dennis.

I believe this 100%.
If McLaren weren't fighting for the drivers title they would have been thrown out, but they were and another year of Ferrari dominance would have reduced interest. So they keep McLaren in the WDC but disqualify them from the WCC (where the money is), and ask them to throw away the title (probably with the incentive of a reduced fine) as it would be damaging to have an illegal car win. Having seen....interesting...calls in the rain, and gearbox issues, it really isn't that long of odds that it happened. But that being said, it's also a definite possibility that the strategy was intentionally messed up by the team to keep the lid on the can of worms; much better to finish 2nd and 3rd this year than to be banned altogether next year. Between two unlikely courses to the same unlikely but realized result, who knows?
The one consistent thing about conspiracies is that only a few people talk about them before the whole story comes out…that is why some people call them spoiler alerts. The 2021 spoiler alert is the FIA retribution on Sir Lewis Hamilton for the Spa comments and international activism.

Actually, they'd have still lost the title by a point on account of having not received Constructor's points from the Hungarian GP due to the whole Pitlane fiasco in Qualifying for that race.
No they wouldn't. They weren't awarded the 15 points they scored in Hungary due to the controversies in Qualifying that weekend. Ferrari would've overtaken them in Brazil.
