    The picture at 14:16 is a compass. Kind of confusing due to having the same name as the common instrument for finding directions. I guess the complete name is a geometry compass but I never called it that.

    Having read nothing about this game, not looking at any future content than what Sven is playing, I'm getting a very eerie "switchboard operator between life and death" vibe.
    Probably too deep for the lore that Cyan has made in the past (unless allegorical, like a lot of the Myst lore), so I'm excited to keep following Sven on this playthrough to see how Cyan zooms out from a worrisome introduction into an adventure of salvation.

    This gives me Obduction vibes. Especially with the "everyone going away somewhere and we arrive to make things right" sort of deal. It's kinda getting old to be honest Cyan. The hub world and doors to other worlds give me a mix of myst of Obduction vibes. I shouldn't be getting a feeling of I've played this game before feeling at a new game like this.

    Watching this after I've already beaten the game is really interesting. She said from the outset that she'd lie to us. And here in this part, she not only lied, but she laughed about it... it's a subtle hint that I missed the first time around 🙂

    *Spoilers* - Just curious if anyone else found some level design choices within the realms a bit odd? Sven, I'd love to know your take on this too. For others, don't read on if you haven't finished the game...
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    For instance, how do you build metal structures like that doorway within the rocks? It appears that the rocks formed naturally around the structures themselves? And how are the lamp posts powered? Either they drilled wires through the rocks or it's based off of some kind of wireless energy system (which makes sense considering the end of the game). And how are trees growing up from the rocks/boulders with no root exposure or anything (this is more evident in other realms)? I wonder if the answer is within the lore in that these realms were built to create the illusion that they were real, and the level design oddities are hints that the realms aren't exactly what they appear to be? If so, I wouldn't be surprised because Cyan is well known for thinking about these things.

    11:02 For one, I am interested to what eventually happened to the troublesome keeper? Was he ultimately the one who had *none* or *more*? Or did their oh so very wise keeper annihilate the troublesome keeper and destroyed him without leaving a single atom of trace?

  • @BigGator5
    @BigGator5 Před 9 měsíci +1

    10:51 ...Ha! I had the exact same thought, Sven!
    I love it when fiction has this high aspersional view of Communism, but in reality it has never worked. Specialization is key to a functional society of individuals and so Communism will never work.

  • @Mythraen
    @Mythraen Před 9 měsíci +1

    0:51"Hm. The only difference between a heresy and the truth is time. Hm. I wonder... Do you agree?"
    So, 1. Why are you asking a question like you can hear the answer, lady? I mean, I guess she said "I wonder" first, but it really sounded like she expected an answer.
    2. Hard disagree. There are two types of heresy. First, there's the kind of heresy where reality clashes with a religious organization's interpretation of reality... This fulfills the heresy-to-truth conversion she mentioned. But, second, there's splinter views, which may branch off into their own religions, where one interpretation clashes with another interpretation, neither of which have any factual foundation.
    3. I'm getting a hard religious vibe from the "Keepers," and her talk of "heresy" and "truth" implies she has heretical views opposed to the Keepers. (I want to say "views that she thinks are true" to finish referencing her sentence, but the idea that someone believes their own views are true is basically a tautology.)
    11:08 "There is nothing we do not know" - Yeah... the Keepers seem like a real wholesome organization.
    14:27 That's a compass. I'm not sure why it has the same name as the navigational instrument.
    30:28 I suspect this is explained at some point, but right now... I'm wondering if our Adjunct forgets when we go in the Threshold, too... because... reasons.
    38:47 You're not alone. I had to look it up. It's archaic English for "equipment." It's pronounced the first way you said it.

    Ok, this is starting to look Orwellian
    One classic Myst-like game you should try is Lighthouse: the Dark Being.
    That tool is called a compass
    Reading these books is reminding me of Myst. A video game trope, always skipping the left page when writing in books.
    Sometimes it sounds like you have an Irish accent
    Maybe the pods are a type of tram
    Linking books LOL!
    This seems to have elements of The Legend of Zelda and Star Fox Adventures

      Sven's style is to play the game and learn the ins and outs so he's not stumbling around confused and lost and trying to figure things out, but then present it as though he's playing it for the first time, so he's "discovering" things and "figuring things out," but he actually already knows all of it.

    In defense of "more" (at least with respect to modern civilization) we would still be living in caves and dying of preventable diseases if our ancestors had not created more and personally benefitted from doing so. It always strikes me as hollow when people who are critical of this process enjoy the benefits of it, such as computing devices, warm homes and modern medicine made by others, nutritious food they didn't have to grow, fancy clothes they didn't have to make, etc. However, after having played this game I understand why the Keepers were dissuaded from "more".

    • @Mythraen
      @Mythraen Před 9 měsíci +2

      There's multiple ways to think of "more." On an individual level, we call this selfishness, and there's little to recommend it. The broader it gets, the less selfish it is, expanding out to family? Community? Civilization? Species? All living things? It can, of course, go too far. We don't need to look out for the best interests of mosquitos or botflies.

      @@Mythraen Right. In this case "more" is obviously code for capitalism, specifically the idea of being motivated solely by the accumulation of wealth. This, the parable states, leads to people enriching themselves at the expense of everyone and everything else.

    @28:11 i'm sorry guy you look adorable and smart but there is 0 chance in a million that you can rush the game and figure everytime the right thing to do on first try. i can't believe you, this game is too hard and some puzzle are milimiter perfect (like this one, at the beging of the game, when you struggle with commands and asked for and advanced technique, obviously designed to be figured later in the game", and the other in lava, lot of fake paths, with obvious colors (red, blue, green, yellow) that you want to match rather than figuring for the small filament enlightened or not. it's a detail that you cannot care if you're just a normal person playing the game for the first try, so i cannot believe in your sincerity, cause you're not struggling at any moment in this super hard game. have a good day.
