In other Cyan games we know what our character looks like (usually we are ourselves) but in this game we aren't given any hint. The fact the cold doesn't bother us in the least makes me wonder all the time about our biology.

From the glimpse of our arms and hands when we picked up the Adjunct, I would guess that we're dressed pretty warmly. Plus, the "Threshold" seems to be some sort of cryogenic stasis, which might affect our perception of heat and cold.

anyways, considering the keepers are supposed to work there, it would be logic they'd be provided the proper "equipage" even if it is not directly stated in the game @@micahbush5397

The way I solved the puzzle getting to the path behind the ice block is by positioning the crane on top of the bridge above the ice block and just walking on it.^^

9:28 you hit on one of my big issues with this game. What the keepers actually did was really unclear for me.
Like it's always very poetic about the purpose of the great mission, but I never understood HOW the keepers did it all. (well, I know how they did it in one world)

  • @coloneldookie7222

I understand Sven's perspective of the small crane operator pod being the focal point of pivoting, but I see the large circle (in the minimap) as the focal point of pivoting, which is why the small pod holes never change. The pods act as points on the crane's secant to the main rotary portion.
The crane ladders and their finicky nature seem like a QA oversight. I'd think any quality testers would have tried that and reported that the logic engine for connected pieces would be something addressed before the final release.
These episodes do no disappoint, but my excitement for a 50+ minute episode was countered by a 20+ minute crane simulator.
Not a Sven problem, more of a tedium problem. I don't expect the crane to zip around willy-nilly, but the time and effort to work a finicky puzzle detracts from the beautiful development of the scenery all around the character.

Ah the ice crane, my mortal enemy. It was so bad for me on release with either end getting completely stuck in terrain (and non terrain) and unable to move at all, forcing many, many resets of the crane to get past the this area. Hope it's better now.

I found the version in the adjuct in the backer demo a bit cumbersome to control (I played flatscreen) so I'm glad they changed it.
I find it strange that they have a big piece of infrastructure to get ice from the bluff when they also have a quarry so much closer to where they were processing the ice.
The mechanism for the crane rotation is that the cab you're in physically travels around the circle while the other cab stays stationary; the boom points along the chord between the two cabs, and the direction of this chord changes as either cab moves. A couple of the times you were blocked and didn't know why, it was because the cab you were in had run into the other cab and thus couldn't go any further.
It didn't occur to me that the holes through the boom for the ladders don't make sense, but now that you mention it, I realize that the fact that the distance between the holes must be changing depending on the distance between the cabs makes them make even less sense. I think it would have been possible to tweak the boom design to make it make sense. Instead of having the top surface of the boom be a solid sheet with ladder holes centered along its width, have half the width consist of a walkway for the player, and the other half, a slot that the ladders poke through and can slide along as the cabs move or the boom is extended.

    Spoiler:
One of the first things I noticed when I stepped out of the bunker was that the clouds don't move. I would have thought that was just a missing game feature, but having played Ahnonay, I left the possibility open that it was canonical. The puzzles of the realms made me sort of forget about that though. I focused on the tasks at hand. There are no questions. We have answers.

I am confused, because with parts like 9:35, this place seems like it was built for a time that wasn't frozen, but then what is the dedicated ice shoot all about. Hmm. (EDIT) Also to elaborate on what I mean by confused, if their are seasons and the ice melts, it seems odd to me how much we have seen so far seems dedicated to the ice blocks, as seasons would make that void for half the year.
I also feel like something must be up with "us" because there's no way we wouldn't be freezing to death by now.

There might be brief thaws, when the ice in general remains solid but there is some melting of ice and snow exposed to the sun. The icicles could only form if there were some warmer periods.

@@micahbush5397 Yea. my issue with that though is there are so many structures built on the ice, such as the crane and the buckets. If it melted, even a little, that would be a disaster.

0:57 The music track for this trip seems a little over-dramatic.
8:30 Maybe it's heavy, but it sure moves smooth and decently quick for a heavy door. I'm not a heavy door expert (any heavy door experts in the chat?), but it doesn't quite match my expectations.
10:38 Well, we found out what they (we) measure. I'm not sure why this one phrase deserves to have half of it said over a speaker.
12:40 Honestly, ice is the one that's arguably repeatable, albeit whether it's still "you" doing it is where the argument comes in.
With the proper application of force, we could be turned into at least a slurry. Undoing that is much harder, though.
Some parts of us can be turned to steam, but that's the hardest to undo, because that process will cause chemical reactions that will be very hard to reverse.
... All totally normal and healthy thoughts.
25:05 "... don't have to do any more ice cube shenanigans." Remember you said that.
25:50 If you don't have the equipage, you have only yourself to blame!
26:41 So, these would be more like... ice cube antics? Tomfoolery? Definitely not shenanigans, though.
27:02 Um... I have questions. Like... why did it fall at a constant rate? Okay, I guess if we answer that question, I might not have any more questions.
30:55 See? You could be a slurry!
35:38 Go left? I dunno, seems kinda sinister* to me.
These messages happen every five minutes, and I responded to some of them:
6:25 Sometimes, you just need a reminder that you measure. This is half a sentence from a sign soon.
11:25 Sometimes, you just need a reminder that you eat.
21:25 Sometimes you just need a reminder that you understand.
36:25 Why does _this one_ get the whole sentence?
    41:25 And this one.
46:25 "We test." In case you forgot since 15 minutes ago.
