    Great info. My 2004 S60 that still looks new is a victim of this faulty design. It sits parked beneath trees and the culprit is the seeds and leaves that block the drainage. Other than this problem, it's a great vehicle.

    Thank you so much for posting this video I do not have that year of car but in principle this will help me when I do have electrical Gremlins. Good reminders.

    Hello Peppermint... Thanks for all u do buddy, I'm currently doing some maintenance on my 04 XC70 concerning the blower motor and it's all thanks to your video that showed me the way...
    Have you ever heard of a parts company called Sidem Belgium ? I got a control arm kit from them I'll keep my fingers crossed and I'll make a video review on the parts before and after install

      Can't speak for this company, but try buying from an official store. Many items sold on Ebay are counterfeit. I ended buying genuine bushes from Volvo and pressed them in the control arm

    from 2000 you have as well a leak problem, the screws have a step so you can not thighten them more than that, so the seal below the box goes thinner and than it leaks, got drops on my feet while driving in the rain, this i sealed from outside with bodyseal or glue and now it is fine.. still running car...

    From 2003 and onwards Volvo put new electronics in their cars. Before 2003 it was Denso, from 2003 onwards the stepped over on Bosch.
    Therefore I think from 2003 on they used another CEM design.
    You can recognize if your car has Bosch or Denso electronics. The Bosch ones use another TCM (throttle control module). Before on the ones equipped with Denso they used a Magneti Marelli TCM which can cause problems sometimes. The Bosch ones are more reliable.
    When you cold start an S60 with Bosch electronics the RPM immediately goes to around 1600rpm and stays there for about 60 seconds. After that it returns to about 1000rpm. The S60's equiped with Denso don't do that.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  Před 3 lety +2

      Good info about the cold idle. The 2001-2002 had several different parts around the engine, such as TB, various hoses and sensors. These were changed from 2003, and from early or mid 2004 on there were new modules such as CEM and REM, new tensioner, steering rack and pump, new radio units. New headlights from 2005 on

    Just happened to my parents' XC90. I took it apart and found the same corroded connector, and a few pins were stuck in the harness connector. Buying a used CEM to try and take the connector to resolder on to the damaged CEM. I have a DiCE but haven't been able to find a way to reprogram a used CEM.

    Peppermint! An Volvo XC90 purchased with 100K for $750. It runs nice after installing new plugs and coils. It does stall from time to time and must be restarted. The reason for the low price, was that of a parasitic draw of 400ma. With the car "asleep", I've found that there is 12V on many of the CEM fuses and under the hood in that fuse box. I pulled the top CEM connectors and found no water damage. After the CEM disconnect, the fuses under the hood showed no voltage, the draw disappeared, but the CEM still shows 12V on some circuits. I'm trying to make a decision whether or not to have the CEM repaired. What do you think?

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  Před rokem

      Try asking on a forum. I believe the XC90 had a recall on the CEM harness -

      A 2008 XC is a third generation (P3), different than the 2nd gen P2 shown in the video. First thing is to measure the battery and alternator (and verify the cables), then try asking on this forum www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=112

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  Před 3 lety +5

      No. What you see is only the surface. There is always much more corrosion inside the module

    So many German cars with ECM\CEM\TCM\Cooling Relays sitting in a puddle.
    I was mad at GM for attaching ECM next to washer fluid fill tube or directly on the engine but German cars win the trophy for bad ecm placement.
    I think German car makers want these expensive main systems to fail first.

    • @Peppermint1

      Usually no, 2001-2003 had a different CEM unit not prone to failures or corrosion

      @@Peppermint1 ok thank you for the prompt response!really appreciated. Currntly having issue with the fuel pump still running eventhough the car already turn off. After removing the fuse, then only the pump stop. After navigsting to the fuel pump relay, removed it and install back again with fuse, the fuel pump now stop running.

      @@sangcxl31 2001-mid 2002 also had different fuel system design. It doesn't use FPS or PEM. Also the 2001-2003 CEM has a specific fuel pump relay, search CZcams with "peppermint fuel pump relay". Maybe the relay got stuck to ON. Suggest asking of these two forums, the UK one is better for diesel engines
