  • Unreported World journeys into the largely unregulated surrogacy market in Georgia, where wealthy couples can have multiple babies at the same time, and where there is no shortage of vulnerable surrogates to meet the demand.
Sitting on the edge of Europe, Georgia’s surrogacy industry is booming. Prospective parents from around the world are turning to clinics with modest prices to help provide their dream of a family. But does this largely self-regulating industry safeguard the thousands of women who are turning to surrogacy to make a living?

Yes, 21 is a lot, that's not quite normal. As long as she takes a good care of them there is no harm done, maybe kids won't have as much attention of their mother as they should, but it was quite popular in east eu to have more than 8 kids in the past.

For those who don’t know, pushing on the abdomen during birth artificially increases the amount of uterine pressure. This is called Uterine Fundal Pressure. Side effects include uterine rupture, postpartum urinary retention, severe perineal trauma and pain, rib fracture, postpartum dyspareunia, and potential neonatal distress or trauma. It may also lead to a higher risk of tearing of the perineum and a prolapsed uterus later in life. The use of fundal pressure is prohibited in the United Kingdom and generally not recommended by many medical facilities and practitioners in the United States.

Sadly surrogacy is like a business deal. The surrogate gets paid for carrying the baby using her womb for rent. Biologically the child is not hers which maybe the reason they take the child away at birth to avoid attachment with the baby which can happen. They should be treated with empathy, support and respect at all times & the parents should be there for the delivery to nurture their baby from the onset. In these case the surrogates are exploited and the babies kept waiting which seems so inhumane. Here in England everything has to be done legally through solicitors. Also the surrogates are vetted to ensure they are mentally stable & not vulnerable or exploited to do this. Both parties must be happy and willing before signing the contract. The surrogates medical & family history is checked thoroughly so she will be refused even if she is fertile. All this costs a lot of money which is why maybe parents desperate for a baby go for the cheaper illegal route.

Any number of animal rescue or farm videos show people lovingly with great warm compassion supporting the mama animal giving birth. The foul people who attended Jana's birth treated her with such brutal contempt that it felt absolutely criminal to me, she is nothing more than a means of money to them. And to witness how the man 'assisted' in bringing the Asian child out brought feelings of hateful rage to my heart; may God forgive me. I gave birth at a public hospital in my country and the midwives and doctors aren't really big fans of screaming women giving birth. 😅 also, what i saw on watching birthing stuff when i was preggo was that screaming makes it more difficult to give birth cuz the pressure you need when pushing the baby out lessens cuz you use your strength screaming.. I'm from Georgia, and I gotta say this is definitely the only way some women can escape from poverty. Early marriages are high, and the minimum wage is only 2$ in an hour. Sadly, either that or prostitution is mostly the only way out for many women.

What is the point of having a bunch of kids if you're just hiring nannys to watch them anyway?!?!? You're getting all these kids, just to pay someone else to raise them??? WTF is the point?!! When they asked her why? And she said "why not?" I felt physically sick. Ugh. Disgusting. Disturbing.

How could that director of the surrogacy program not think a woman isnt emotionally connected to the child growing in their womb for 9 months?? Whether you hold them after birth or not, it would be heart breaking to give up a baby this way. And to leave a helpless newborn alone, who so desperately needs to be held and cuddled after birth, is so incredibly cruel. This is so sad to me.

No sympathy for her not being able to connect with a baby she willingly chose to give up for a couple. But her being treated like crap in the hospital is wrong though.

The director 100% knew that the surrogates have an emotional attachment to the baby. Doesn’t take a body language expert to see how she was lying through her teeth as she said that they have no attachment.

I'm no medical professional by any means, but surely it was wrong for that male doctor / nurse to push down on the woman's abdomen when she was giving birth? I'm pretty sure that would cause the woman problems after birth.

L&D RN here. That technique is called fundal pressure and is not standard of practice at least in the States. I only knew 2 OBGYNs in my 7 years of practice known to do it. It can cause the uterus to invert (rare), bigger perineal lacerations, and even uterine rupture. It is definitely an archaic practice, along many other obstetric violence male doctors have done to women over the decades like twilight births, instrument births and more..

My mother was pregnant with me in France and the reason why she flew back home to Scotland to give birth was because of this crazy pushing the belly procedure she’d heard about, it happened to her sister in-law when she gave birth in France so it put my mum off. That was in the 90s.

All hers and the father's? No blended families, adoptions? Any multiples? That's a lot of kids. Takes a village to raise them. Not for everyone but I'm happy they have a good home.

This is absolutely horrifying. Especially that first “ business woman”. How can a normal person even think about doing such a thing?! If you want to have a lot of kids - adopt one from another country, for example! There are so many children who desperately need to find a new home and mom. But she turned into a farm!!! It’s disgusting.
