    Lovely pine and love your videos, you inspired me to start my channel with your clump style maple videos. I won’t ever have trees as lovely as yours but the whole bonsai thing makes me happy and I love it. Thanks for sharing and all the best from over the pond … 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

    Wow, I never knew how much potential trouble you guys can have with pests and disease on your pines in the states.
    This video is such a educational experience, even though I don't need to worry about the issue where I grow. Cant wait to watch the rest of the video. 👉See ya there!👉

    So where are you now? I’m in Louisville, KY. Have you left the area? It is really hard to watch knowing you are leaving the region. BUT…I wish you and your family the best!!!!

    Do you use Lime Sulphur like prevention for all that too ? I have my light mixture of Lime S. and I dip all top of the tree or some years I just spray them.

    Hi.. super cool explanation... I'm from the south brazil..where is subtropical.. so... i found some pine that i believe being black pine on the beach! they're about 50cm high . i've get the first prune on 3 of the trees.. on the winter ...(the winter was so warm) when is the best time to take them out ?

    Never knew Aleppo were double-flush and suitable for bonsai. 😳
    That is the most common pine in SoCal planted all over the burbs and cities - streets, parks, slopes, etc., etc. …literally tens of thousands of them all over Southern California.
    They’re huuuge and fast growing like weeds! …like +100’ tall in only 30 years (which is why I never thot they were any good for bonsai)
    I can actually see a handful of them giants from my backyard on the slope.
    Also, on my daily jogs, I pass by probably +50 of them… and also see tons of cones in fall/winter (and on rare occasion, sprain my ankle on one, lol).
    Perhaps I should get some cones and grow some seeds someday.

      Fast growing stuff is great for bonsai, especially for quick, visible results!

      I bought a close relative, pinus bruttia. Also a double flush. But it will revert to blue needles if agressively pruned

    Is there a place to actually buy high quality kiryu river sand? Everyone says yeah use that…can never find any. I’m sure some Colorado river sand would work the same but the fertilizer pot soil and tree are all from Japan I’d like the sand to also be from Japan 😂

    Hi Bjorn, great content as always. Re: no pruning in spring recommendation, does that also apply for removal of terminal buds on red pine trees in mid stage development with long internodes and leggy branches, where you want back budding, only 2 branches per node, and/ or to energy balance (reducing strong sections)? Thanks again for your knowledge- Mitch

    Double flush is kinda wrong as in some areas of the world for example, jbp can be cut and harden off a 3rd flush of growth reliably. Thus, multiflush suits that genre of pine much better.

  • @barbkrienke8400
    @barbkrienke8400 Před 10 měsíci +2

    Quick question - I understand why the trees can double flush now. But why do you decandle them - is it because the second flush is smaller, or does the tree actually need it for some reason (like some trees need a winter cold spell). Thanks!!! I love your videos!

    • @txkuntryboy
      @txkuntryboy Před 10 měsíci +3

      The whole point of decandling is it activates adventitious buds which give you more twigging and needles. Where you had one candle you will get 3 or 4 new candles maybe even more.

    • @LarleyStairwell
      @LarleyStairwell Před 10 měsíci +2

      It is generally to improve ramification as mentioned above, but also to get smaller growth, as the tree has less energy when growing the second set of candles, meaning the needles will not grow as long, helping with the proportions of the tree.
