      The last thing they need is musical acts etc. I watch NFL. Regular season games are better. Superbowl ads and half time takes WAY too long. At Superbowl half time I just roll a joint and flick through the channels until the 2nd half.
      But to call PSG Harlem Globetrotters is wrong too. Globetrotters is a sports circus style show purely for entertainment. If PSG begin using trampolines and ladders to "win" fixed matches then OK you can call them that. Would Simon dare call Man City Harlem Globetrotters? They're cheating just as much as PSG.

      I think the super bowl is a bigger spectacle than the CL as I’ve often found CL finals boring as hell. Especially when they involve clubs from the same country. It gets far more viewers because it’s the most popular sport in the world, so you can’t go by viewers alone. A halftime show wouldn’t shake things up too much.

    Simon is basically right … one off the reasons the super bowl is so huge (as it is but not a patch on cl final) both inside America and outside is 1… it’s as popular in yank culture (even not including the halftime show) as the fa cup final was in English culture was pre 92/premier league /multi tv channels was. …2 it’s the only Huge sports final in America sports in the sense off the best team on the day takes it all… as the other 3 traditional big four us team sports basketball baseball and ice hockey all play best off 7 games series and each other’s stadiums … and even if they are tied 3 games each and head into winners take all game 7 it’s still not at a neutral site and it’s a home vs away team .… 3 …yes the super bowl show is huge and the only point sports and music really cross over but as good as it is necessitates a halftime interval that is longer (maybe twice as long? Nfl super fans will know) as ever single other nfl game full stop. I for one don’t want a halftime interval a minute longer then every single other game played in the same season and finally 4… if we really went for it like the super bowl does it will only be a matter off time until both “shows” will be poorer for the tit for tat competition and comparison for music talent … the absolute most I’ll go for is a local group in general area off the final who is world famous maybe go into the centre circle and play 2 songs for the crowd … or much better play BEFORE the game … but even that would annoy me if you want a gig … go to a festival and/or concert … 5…… in this current age if we were ever graced with another musical god with say the talent off a prince or Michael Jackson … nobody would really watch … but would instead be filming with their smartphones …so I really believe in the long run football is better off without halftime shows … best to say them for World Cup and euros opening ceremonies before 1st tournament matches so only 1 every two years 👍

    Agreed the CL should find a way to be even bigger then already is but the Superbowl may attract 80k people in physical attendance compared to CL attendance
    The only reason the Superbowl went up 16% because they signed 4 superstar musicians Kendrick Lamar is questionable because of his music but ayy go otherwise attendance would be different also Superbowl style in CL final will not catch on for Europe

    Despite not showing much international growth, American Football generates a ton of revenue, so the idea is worth exploring.
    But as a football fan, I still think, maybe naively so, that there is still something pure about the sport that might die if we follow in the footsteps of American sports

      US sport is all about ads hence the breaks in the various sports to enable "telly selly time". The danger is some bright spark decides to change football into 4 quarters rather than 2 halves. Don't fix it if it's not broken..

    I don’t often agree with Simon but he was spot on there. Jim didn’t have an argument or a leg to stand on. UCL is far, far bigger in every metric than the “Super Bowel”. Financials, viewership, prestige, product, you name it, the UCL comes out ahead. If you want to go to a concert, go to a concert, don’t go to the Champions League final. Or, sure, go to the Super Bowel for the half time show… I guess it is the only part worth watching.

    According to this thing called Google, The 2021 Champions League final was watched by 700 million people versus 112 million who watched the 2022 Super Bowl ( 96 million in 2021 ). Anyone who watched the Super Bowl and read between the lines would know that the majority of the 112 million was in the US. The so-called global audience of the Super Bowl was made up of US service men and women watching from military bases in Germany, etc. Whenever the Super Bowl broadcast panned overseas to show their so-called "global audience" it was always their troops in foreign countries unlike the Champions League, World Cup and even Premier League where you get people watching live from Europe, Asia, Africa and the America's at crazy local times. I remember watching weekday Champions League games at 3am in Thailand, Philippines and Hong Kong at 24 hour bars and I was not the only crazy at that time in the bar watching.

    I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to look at total numbers given everybody knows football is a bigger global sport than American football is so it’s obvious that it’d have more viewers.. if you’re comparing numbers it should be a percentage of those into the sports that watch them.. I’m pretty sure the Super Bowl has a larger percentage of those that are into the sport who watch it compared to football… personally I’m all for it becoming a bigger spectacle because honestly it usually just feels like another game not as big as it should feel at least to me

  • @paulonvula6495
    @paulonvula6495 Před 2 lety

    I see both points, but I see where the PSG president is going with this. Even though the CL has far more audience than Super-bowl, Super-bowl has or is more hyped and thus create more interest. When you watch it on TV, even if you know nothing about it you will know that something big is up because it just feels and looks big. The CL sometimes does not generate the that much of interest. The reason they have less viewers is only bcuz it is not as global as football/soccer is, it is mostly a North American sport. Had it been close like football it would have trumped the CL for sure due to how the Americans market their products.

  • @anfieldkop9343

    Speaking fr experience I'm only interested in the superbowl half time show and not the game itself and am an American. I think doing the same with the ucl final would bring more viewers especially fr this side of the pon. It's kinda unfair to compare the views for the superbowl and the ucl bcaz soccer is the most popular sport in the world while NFL isn't even in the top 10.
