    I’m with Simon on this. These clubs have 50+ professional players and know the schedule waaay in advance. It’s the managers choice, making the players play twice in 3 days, not the fixture schedule. They could have easily plan ahead and rotate.
    Maybe we should offer each team a choice at the beginning of the year… like a Christmas bonus… you can revive an extra £3mil in TV money or have a longer break… which ones do you think the clubs will choose???!!

      Yeah some of what you said is right but it’s not that simple. And clubs do not know months in advance as all but one of the competitions they play in are knockout ones, no one can predict who is gonna play and when it will be played.
      And every aspect of being a player is far more intensified than it was 30 years ago. Physically, mentally, socially it’s much more difficult than it was back then even if they do get paid too much.

    • @rogersmith422
      @rogersmith422 Před 2 lety +2

      Spot on. If a player has played too many games and is facing burn out, its up to the manager to 'manage' and slot a squad player in.
      I believe the players should be protected from a manager who would expect them to play every minute of every game by making a ruling that a player 'must' be rested after their 5th consecutive game (perhaps exclude semi's, finals and last game of season).

    Well said Simon. All clubs suffer with injuries and all clubs have roughly the same fixture congestion so the December bump in the road is the same for all. In fact, the bigger clubs with greater resources are best placed to ride out that bump. As for Gerrard and Henderson- there is no government lockdown so everyone is going to work and mixing with folk. As a teacher I work in a school with 1500 kids who mix every day and go home to families, so do my own kids. And just for the record I saw Matty Cash in selfridges yesterday and the place was packed. I've not got a problem with this but Stevie G needs to be aware that his players are happily out and about not isolating themselves in bunkers after training.

    This dude is so jealous of "foreign managers." It's all the managers that are complaining, including domestic. Somehow this guy knows better than the people playing the game? It's obvious to me that he really resents the power people like Tuchel and Klopp have gotten because they WIN. Where would he be without those managers and players for him to gripe about?

Regardless of what you think of footballers, they are mostly family people who stand a high risk of contracting COVID19, whereby exposing their often young families.

    Sorry to disagree with an old favourite of mine like Arteta, but we do NOT have to listen to the players - I'm pretty sure the squad players & U21s would be more than happy to take their spots. They just want the wealth of a high-stakes, high responsibility, high-pressure job but without the responsibility or the pressure. This is how the world works: you can have a lower paid job & more family time or a higher paid job & less family time.

      @@footballequalslife7452 They're not just asking though are they, they're trying to use "player-power" on one ting after another.
      They've asked that we all applaud them at the start of each game, even though we live in a country of 67 million people who don't see eye-to-eye on anything, let alone politics.
      At many clubs, the players seemingly are allowed to get their manager fired just by having a quiet word with the chairman that "the gaffer's lost the dressing room".
      Remember when Beckham joined Real Madrid? Next thing we knew, England had to play in Madrid's all-white kit.
      Now you've got them whining that they don't want to play twice in three days. So don't! Just excuse yourself & the manager can pick someone else. Use your squad if the first 11 don't want to play.
      The like of Jordan Henderson assume powers that they have no right to. He's the captain of Liverpool. The extent of his power is limited to his team-mates & even that is tempered by what Klopp allows. He's not a spokesperson for all players & certainly not for all fans.
      The fans rule this sport. Not the players. If they don't want that, then they can go find another profession. Or they can look forward to lower incomes as fans desert them
