Empire's rebuttal: MONEY.
How else are they going to afford their 19 kilometer battleships and moon-sized battle stations equipped with planet-destroying lasers.
If they control the banks and the economy then is money really an issue?
@@connorbestbarlow1043 You're getting into inflation. By creating more money without an equivalent exchange of good, you just devalue the money. Also, even when the banks are nationalized, its clear they're almost broke. Considering the immense cost of the war, which also broke the republic, its clear the cost of that clone army was funneled into different projects, like the death star and the complete overhaul of the military ships and vehicles.

Are you sure? After all, a clone army is much more distanced from the civilians whose loyalty the Emperor needs. The real danger to the Empire has been the support the Rebel Alliance is getting from its own people. Using storm troopers means playing your people off against themselves. They undermine your enemies, something clones never could. On the contrary, using a cloned army would unite the people against the Empire. Clones are better in regular war, but in civil war you also have to use citizens otherwise they will go to the opposite side.

I don’t know how money is even an issue for the empire. Look how much they spent on their ISDs and Death Star.
Well there are other issues at play.
The Imperial economy became dependent on the exploitation of the periphery to fund and send resources to the core. Entire planets would be strip mined, enslaved, and drained of everything to fund the imperial war machine.
There is also one advantage a non-clone army gives. When the Empire conquers a human population (since they hated aliens), they could conscript said population. Each conquest gives them more soldiers - theoretically.
Those are the reason they have money issues.
@@chrisfox7034 the thing was there was Armies as in plural. One ISD had something of 45,000 personnel. A Division (10,000) of Storm Troopers, 9,000 Navel Officers and 28,000 Enlisted Men. The cost of a dozen Star Destroyers could have covered the bill of maintaining 212th, 501st and 442nd at the very least.
Getting rid of them completely was incredibly stupid as it was a investment that bankrupt the republic. Installing a regular army would be ideal for what pulps wanted hell he could have kept the equipment and vehicles as well for reserves, the rest of the navy and core could turn to hell like it did but he would still have a army of elite troopers loyal only to him and use as the boogeymen.
@@chrisfox7034 yeah only for them given an equipment that's rather uneffective.
Yeah they spent all their money on giant battlestations instead of competent occupation forces which are far more important for long term stability. Tarkin Doctrine was just flat out wrong and only inspired more resistance, Palps shouldn't have listened to him.
Genetics play a huge factor. The Clones came from Jango Fett, who was deemed by the Kaminoan's as being 'superior' genetic stock firstly and let's not forget, they tinkered around with this stock, so things like endurance and loyalty traits were increased.
And if Jango’s DNA runs dry, you can always find the next elite bounty hunter

Probably the biggest thing is experience. Clone Troopers where trained and fought in the most vicious war in countless centuries. Thus they were battle hardened and could likely handle most combat situations. Stormtroopers by contrast mainly put down small insurrections, and were never subjected to even a quarter of the fighting Clones were.
In Legends, stormtroopers were used for the most difficult battles.

Why didn't the Empire just use Carbon freezing to keep the Clones in reserve for emergencies? This way they would cost almost nothing and still could be sent into battle rather quickly. Also they probably would't age so fast and the kaminoans would't need to create so many of them.
(Sorry if I spelled someting wrong, since English isn't my first language)
Han Solo had carbon sickness that caused him to be blind for a few hours in return of the jedi. I think it was 3 years but I'm not 100% sure. That could have factored in but I think that would have been a great idea
I get your point, and in legends some spent time in "suspended animation" between deployments. But its never as far as i know been addressed officially.
And yeah, in universe, carbon freeze was something no vaguely sentient being would agree to.
Asides from the potential side effects of being frozen in carbonite, it would be a hassle to freeze, unfreeze, then refreeze a person for emergency reserve

Simply put, if you want the best military, you need the strongest troops possible. Palpatine left himself open to rot from within for not utilizing the resource the Clone Troopers represented.
Sure clones are expensive, but they aren't as costly as having to build legions of star destroyers only to be blown up or heavily damaged after one battle. Not to mention clones won't completely flunk an attack because they aren't over ambitious or just plain terrible commanders
Star destroyers were really outnumbered in most cases, or had less shielding. Putting 1 or 2 star destroyers in a group and calling it a fleet is like calling two birds a flock.
Officer klennic and Grand Moff Tarkin are proof of those failures. Ambition, Greed, Lies, Sabtoging each other's planes just to keep the other from getting ahead. And more importantly jealousy and paranoia.

Stormtrooper: Patrols are boring...
Clone troopers: First time?
Great video! going further on the bit about individuality was how bits of Mandolorian culture snuck in as well, especially through soldiers like Kal Skirita and the Cuy'val Dar. The Mandolorian culture gave them a further sense of honor, family, and purpose which made them even more effective soldiers. None of this changed the overall loyalty of the GAR to the Republic, with or without the Disney inclusion of inhibitor chips. So Palpatine's paranoia about disloyal soldiers and wanting a larger, more effective military actually ended up costing him on both counts.
Clones may have lost their jobs to Stormtroopers but they got the last laugh in the end.
Keeping smaller scale cloning program to make elite troopers for special assignments would have probably been ideal for Palpatine's needs.
Captain Rex said it in rebels "I can't see anything in this helmet!"

The vast majority simply didn't jave time to try. The attacks came as a complete surprise. In the comics one Jedi DID use a mind trick to convince the clones hunting him to gun down some Inquisitors. He convinced them anyone holding a light saber was, by definition, a Jedi...
...after dropping his lightsaber of course.😄
We forgot one disadvantage: aim
Clone aim = god tier
Stormtrooper aim = why is the tree jumping in front of my target

Obi wan specifically states that NO ONE IS AS PRECISE A SHOT as the stormtroopers
@@houseofaction well no he was on Tatooine he means no one could have that aim on that planet unless it was a storm trooper because there were Bounty hunters yes but they wouldnt attack without getting paid and the tusken raiders woukd def raid them but they cant aim so it must be stormtroopers
That joke is so old.
It’s hard to come up with a surprise army without the clones. Family members would talk, etc. Once the need for surprise is gone, conscription makes the most sense.
Clone are more adaptive to combat, and experience is important when your in the battlefields.
If Rebels ever got word of Kamino, they could have wiped out the cloning facilities or something and completely stop the flow of new clones, if the Empire were to stay with clones. They'd also have to find someone else to use as a template for their clone army.
next do the advantages the stormtrooper has over the clones, as there is many as much as a prequelboo will say otherwise
Palpatine: Clones are too expensive and not worth risking our economy.
Also Palpatine: Let’s build a second Death Star!
Cloning may have discontinued after the rise of the Empire, but the knowledge and the tools to make clones weren't forgotten.
5 years after the battle of Endor, Grand admiral Thrawn uses the Emperors secret underground cloning facility on the planet of Wayland, to create crew members to man the approximately 200 pre-Clone war dreadnoughts, aka the lost Katana fleet, which he managed to rediscover and capture before the New Republic can intervene.
The largest issues with clones was the rapid aging, the cost, and the need for a base template that was worth the work to secure
Find a way to double growth for the first 10 or so years, then have it slow when they hit maturity. Sorta like a hacked version of puberty. Make those your soldiers and your pilots. Let them move around in the ranks and positions freely.
Then simply recruit for anything you're missing or dont wanna fill with valuable fighters like service techs, dock work, medics, repair services, etc but let exceptional ones be considered for high rank positions and the like. Maybe even use *that* as a way to find your next base template
Thanks for the update
I love how you brought the Battlefront 2 (PS2) campaign into this discussion
Mabey Clones for offensive and special forces while useing Storm Troopers for defencive roles and Law enforcement.
One thing the new empire needs in stormtroopers is numbers. It's going to need a lot more than even Kamino can provide. On the other hand, it will need the clones for much longer than it can imagine.
Allan I love your videos, but what do you ride bro? I picked up motorcycles when I was 20. Started on a zx6r, then moved to a zx14 and have stayed on the zx14 for the last 9 years. I'm down to ride with you anytime.
The cost of cloning is pretty artificial, resource wise since they age faster, they cost far less than a normal human that takes 18-20 years to reach their physical apex. The issue here was outsourcing, if the Empire brought creation of clones in-house it would literally only cost them food. You have to pay even conscripts, both have to be equipped, fed, healed and housed. Being that the clones are literally slaves they would be the cheaper option without Kamino putting some sort of crazy markup on the cost of raising them.
Sure, the cost of raising normal children is deferred from the government in a way, but it still costs your society resources. It's a very narrow view that thinks 'well, it's free to me' and just rolls with it. That lack of wholistic vision is probably why the empire was so bad at _everything._
Does anybody else remember that one clone wars episode that revolved around the republic literally going broke and breaking the economy due to the cost of clones?
You want to tell me that there are different sizes in uniform? We had one size back in the day:
OSFN:One Size Fits Noone!
Another advantage is infiltration. These clones lived alongside each other for years, it would be so difficult for a rebel to don the armour of one and act and sound like a clone that it would be impossible. Admittedly, this is also a downside as a clone would find it difficult to be a rebel unless they properly deserted - a very rare occurrence
Have you read Republic commandos by Karen Traviss? They were as good as the bad batch and fit in at the same level of the bad batch. They, in the end, went Rouge. Would like to see a comparison of omega and delta squads and the bad batch.
The ability to mass produce an army is valuable, in all aspects. Hence why the separatists had a good idea on HOW to get their numbers, but the flaws vastly outnumbered the pros
disadvantage number nine that the Stormtroopers have vs the Clone Troopers: "I'm a soldier, like you! This is what I was bred for." - Clone 99

I don't know which is worse really, possible war fatigue over losing your loved ones (since many Stormtroopers obviously have families and/or friends) or paying overpriced Space Apple employees to create what is essentially a slave army.
You know, why didn't the Empire simply pick up war orphans and young street urchins, divide them with vocational tests and train them accordingly, while indoctrinating them into staunch Imperial loyalists? They could be just as loyal with a lower cost of production and upkeep. It's not like poor children - if left to their own devices - could amount to anything beyond scum and villainy in that galaxy. They could be relatively easily reintegrated into society during peacetime since military specialist training is desirable in the civilian sector, while also serving as living examples of Imperial benevolence.
Flashbacks to OG battlefront 2 flying over Coruscant as a "marine"
Universal equipment... Well, that's true, 1) military gear for non-clones only comes in two sizes - "too large" and "too small" - so it's not like opening a second production line or adding the ability to adjust the fit of a piece of gear would be that difficult; and 2) the Kaminoans still managed to screw up the fit with Phase 1 gear anyway, which was overly heavy and restricted the clones' movements due to poor design.
9: the clones can fucking aim
Seeing as how the Stormtrooper program is a small shock force of elite troopers, Clones make sense. But for rank and file, conscripts are cheaper cannon folder.
Darth Sidious : "Yo we turned the republic into a galactic empire just like Julius Caesar."
Imperial 1 : "We should improve our military by replacing aging clones with OP black droids."

Stromtrooper Advantage:
OH wait, did I wrote that ? Yeah Stromtooper don't have
Woudl've been better if they held onto clone troopers for longer, used them as a buffer as they implement storm troopers, and could've used storm troopers as regular army grunts while using clone troopers as more specialized infantry (like Army and Marines relationship)
A US army infantryman will go through 22 weeks of training, a US marine will go through 4 days less, and British infantrymen go through 26 weeks. During WW2, an infantryman would go through basic training in 8-17 weeks
They only had to make 3 changes to the clone army to make it 10x better and take away a few of its down sides.
1. Get multiple different types of clones so they are less susceptible to bio warfare.
2. Spread cloneing facilities across the galaxy to prevent loss of production from one being destroyed and also improve the speed and numbers of troops produced.
3. Regularly check the clones chips to prevent damaged ones from rebelling.
Geting rid of clones completely was stupid should have used both clones as the elite and storm troopers as standerd troops if not just some kind of police force
what is the scene at 1:05 from?
The clones were good but Palpatine wanted more than a strong military. He wanted to have people believe in his empire, and partake in it willingly, which is why the clones were discontinued
Aim was a big disadvantage for bucketheads
I think it’s better to look at it from the empires POV. The nature of the conflicts they were fighting didn’t require them to maintain a top of the line army that was more expensive. They were fighting guerrilla warfare and garrisoning the galaxy. It would also be easier to use human recruits because people didn’t fear humans as much as they did clones. the fett dna was degrading as well and they wouldn’t be able to maintain cloning production. I think both the clone troopers and the storm troopers were the best units for the conflicts they each participated in.
The 9th disadvantage: the helmets and armour the helmet are offered close to no visibility the made it impossible to hit shots, and the armour we've seen clones take several shots and not die but with Stormtroopers the armour was made out of I forget but I do remember it was weaker than clone armour causing Stormtroopers to go down in a single hit
Ive never understood why the Emperor went forward with the Stormtrooper program, and retired the Clone Trooper Program.
I think because clones are much more expensive compare to Stormtroopers
The cost and the fact the Fett DNA was wearing thin now and deteriorating and well sheer numbers really. The Clone army took so long to make and in so few numbers not enough to govern am entire Galaxy.
@@davidordaz5251 Well the Death star was a bad idea and investment, the star destroyers did work when used right. They could stomp any real opposition with ease and carried a decent number of troops and vehicles. Their only set back was the fighters they where carrying where not shielded and they needed better anti small craft guns.
The best advantage the clones has was that they are so multi role that a small unit could in theory man almost the entire vehicle selection in the army resulting in clones being able to rotate positions in the event of high casualties to specific skills like clone gunners or arc 170 pilots or gunners.
Can anyone please teach those stormtroopers how to shoot? They were bested by a blind force sensitive monk that didn't even weild a light Saber. And their blasters don't even have sights, which is the bear minimum for delivering controlled bursts. Sure, maybe there is a camera on the blaster that links to their helmet, but you better hope that never breaks down. It never hurts to have something to fall back on.
I think when cloning a clone trooper, there should be a way to end the accelaration after 2-3 years (much like animals go though from birth to full adult). That way they can live longer lives. however, i see why they continue to age by design. emporor wanted the clones to 'die out' sooner after the war came to an end.
Jumping universes, but on the bond of brotherhood... Imperial Guard Stormtroopers in 40K - "Astra Militarum Tempestus Scions" in the new naming convention - aren't genetically engineered in vitro like Kaminoan clones are, but they _are_ trained basically from birth, and as cohesive units. They grow up as a cohort/graduating class in the Stormtrooper program of a Schola Progenium (the same Imperium school that produces Commissars and Adepta Sororitas), and are posted to Guard regiments as a self-contained unit.
The advantage of this is that they've literally known each other and trained together all their lives, and intuitively know how the entire team of Stormtroopers will react to something. The disadvantage, though, is that from day one, that unit is on borrowed time because it cannot be reinforced when a trooper gets hurt or killed. I mean, you could bring in fresh blood from the Schola to reconstitute the unit, and they'll be well-trained and well-equipped, but the FNG's will always be outsiders to the Stormtrooper squad and won't have the reflexive bond of trust that made the original unit so effective. Usually, once a unit of Stormtroopers falls below fire-team strength (about five guys) the unit is formally disbanded, the surviving troops are assigned to line infantry units, and a request is put in with the Munitorum for another batch of Stormtroopers.
Commissar Cain thought the practice was a little strange, since it left a Guard regiment with special-forces units that were almost always at only partial strength.
Not to mention the Phase || Clone Trooper armor look way cooler than the standard Stormtrooper armor.
I wonder who would win out of a squad of clone troopers or a squad of strom troopers outfitted in Beskar
Clone troopers, they have experience killing mandalorians
Yeah stormtroopers are less efficient and even though clones are more expensive but better so you might need less clones.
Notification gang 🌟 love your videos btw
Allen forgot to mention the Clones paid for all the DLCs too.
Level grinding must be hard when you cant see a thing through your helmet an sights never seem to work on your weapons
No the was still major battles being fought for around 3 or 4 years after order 66 , the reconquest of the mid and outer rim and the holdouts ( separates) and punitive campaigns and rebellions like mon cala and the wookies.
This was awesome!!!
You forgot to take into account Jango's degrading genetic sample.
The Clones were getting less efficient with each batch, more and more were being "born" will genetic variations, most not useful to The Empire.
It would have eventually gotten to a point where The Empire would be paying a premium price for fewer troopers that don't have much of an advantage over enlisted soldiers.
The main reason I think palpating didn’t need the clones was because there was no longer a war to fight. Therefore no need for that strong of a military. That and his confidence in the Death Star and various other super weapons and super soldier programs he was funding
Me personally if I were Palpatine I would keep clone troopers around but as specialized units such as rocket troopers, flametroopers, and even Death Troopers.
Can you do what if Earth joined the galactic republic
The empire couldn't stay with the clones because:
- The Kaminoans were suspicious and had a hidden army to fight the impire and they knew that
- The Jango gen was deteriorated
- Due to the incredible intelligence clones had, lot of them would have rise against the empire
- Expensive af (if they just forced the kaminoans to do it for free, they would just fight the empire)
But how can he trust something that didnt exist yet? 😕

stormtroopers: i guess they cost less because they only need to be payed when they join the militare and they dont have a "developer" which in turn also costs less, they are not a big threat to the sith in comparison to the clones but that also means they are lesser threat to the jedi and rebellion, being a stormtrooper means almost anyone can become one which means more planets can join the empire forces
i have an idea that can make both parties happy and is quite effective remember the fact that the stormtrooper is not the basic infantry unit of the empire bcuz that will be the imperial army trooper while the stromtrooper is an elite unit well my idea is that the empire simply just have an imperial army trooper while the stormtrooper core is an clone army since the stormtrooper core is supposed to be an elite core of infantry a clone soldier would make sense whil imperial army trooper will made for their number guarding bases an other lesser job while the clone stromtrooper is doing all the action hows my idea is it good or nah
I don’t understand Tarkin saying the clone program is an expensive program when he is a higher up in the dictatorship that makes the money
