Do clueless
Jaime! If you are allowed to give feedback to scentbird from your subscribers, would you talk to them about getting Mugler? I have been so close to getting scent bird (and using JAIMEFRENCH at checkout, duh) but I don't see Mugler on their app. Like I've even made an account and installed their app on my phone looking... and that's an expensive brand I REALLY wanna try before purchasing! Thank youuu! I love you!
Don't ever raise your eyebrows like that again. Im going to have a Courage the Cowardly dog style nightmare tonight
Thank you for the urban rose suggestion btw.
I got scentbird because or Jaime and oh my god!! It seriously is helping my shopping addiction because it's cheap and yet exciting everytime I see it come in 🥹
They could have avoided most of the weirdness by having her teacher find out she was an undercover reporter early on, and then he tries to help her keep it secret.
Omg that solves most of the problems.🥲
BRO. then her brother wouldn’t have had to get involved!!
@@renej3487 ok then it would have needed to happen after Rob got involved. Otherwise it wouldn't have been as funny. Except him dating the gymnast part would still be creepy.
That weirdness was part of the point. Her boss was angling for Josie to write a smoking scandal involving a cradle snatching teacher.
Josie used this opportunity to "be" a teen without the hormone driven insanity involved in teenage drama.
@@melodie-allynbenezra8956 ok but like they coulda done this in a different way. Example: Sam finding out Josie is an undercover reporter early on and brings it up and they keep it a secret while working together to expose another teacher that really is a pedo. That would have involved a WAYY more natural relationship arc and opportunity of romance between Josie and Sam, while also giving her boss the scandal story he wants. It’s just lazy writing to justify Sam being the creep and Josie pining after him anyway.
It's crazy to think David Arquette's character could enroll in high school under a false name, take a 16-year-old girl to the prom while not wearing pants, get exposed for being a 23-year-old man, and then get a job working with minors at that same school.
You know what is really really really crazy? The number of s3x offenses at inner city Chicago schools by teachers on students. The recent report that came out in an exposé showed, if I recall correctly, 110 incidents in 2022. 😮😢
That's the sex pest-to-coach pipeline in action.
Lmao...sounds way more innocent than all the stuff goin on in schools in 2023! 😁😅😅😅
He didn’t fuck her .
LOLOLOL i just rewatched this movie and I was like ?!?!??!
The reason why she could blend in as a 17 year old is because she’s in a movie where obvious adults play 17 year olds 😂
The funny part about that was Jordan Ladd and Marley Shelton played the mean girls, and are both older than Drew Barrymore IRL. 😅
It reminds me of Grease lol everyone was like 25-30, and same with Jawbreaker-no one really looked high school age
The best part about being a 29 year old man is I can watch in-depth movie reviews of chick flicks from the 90s and nobody can stop me.
35 year old man here. Same😊
Honestly? Hot.
I love this so much.
Somebody needs to stop this man. He's got too much power
@@NickTwithADHD chick flicks can be quite an experience especially with Jamie's delivery
Wait wait, so not only was he attracted to a 16-17 year old and hated her for “lying” but he also had a girlfriend this entire time. That’s a BIG YIKESSSS!
I love it when Americans are really disturbed by the fact that a 17 year old could possibly date an older man while girls as young as 16 are forced into marriages in the really stupid states like Utah and West Virginia and nobody says a word.
Imagine being disappointed your girlfriend isn't underage.

Agreed!
I love the detail, especially if I haven't seen the movie (or haven't seen it in a very long time).
Then again, I could listen to Jaime read the phone book in a Jennifer Coolidge impression for an hour and still enjoy it.
I legit get excited when it’s a longer review lol
@@brittanyrevia2542 omigod I just spit out my drink 😂😂😂
I concur.
There's a weird double standard in this movie as well. Because she gets upset with her brother for hitting on a 16 year old but she's all flustered but a 17 year and happy to be asked to prom by him. It's so weird. And the teacher is so weird because he was interested in what he thought was a teenager and were supposed to ignore that
I mean I guess because she knew she wasn't gonna sleep with the 17 year old boy. Like she's flustered by the attention because she has never been asked to prom before (well I mean she was asked but it was a mean prank sooooo)but she's not actually gonna date this boy for real. Her brother was like I'm just an adult who is going to hit on an underage kid like creepy peaked in HS dude
@@tristantries9211 Isn't it creepy for her to go with him to prom? She could've turned him down
@@MaxOakland she probably should have or maybe she thought it would blow her whole trying to fit in with the popular kids thing to figure out youth culture. I wouldn't call it creepy if it stayed chaste
@@MaxOakland kind of sad though. Like c'mon lady your basically chaperoning him like a parent
I agree with this, and I rarely see anyone comment about it on her end. Her teacher and her brother were in the wrong for sure, but so was she.
I watched this with my daughter thinking she would love it as much as I did when I was younger...and she was totally like, "Mom, this movie is super weird and 'cringe'!! Why is the teacher hitting on one of his students?!". When I was her age and watching this movie, I definitely didn't find that problematic 🤨
Neither did I.
I definitely did lol
I never thought anything of it…and went on to have several inappropriate relationships with way older dudes lol
It was a different time back then now we're living in the twight light zone@@rhemasaginario3249
That means you’re doing a very good job raising her😂
Most ridiculous thing about this movie is the idea that anyone who has graduated high school, especially college, no matter how big of a loser they used to be, would go back and still give a single shit about about what any of these toddlers thought lol
Not really. She’s only 25, and her growth is clearly stunted.
@@fujikokunyes, really. Don’t discredit this which is a completely valid point.
The growth from 17 to 25 is huge. You can’t seriously think one just regresses back to being 17.
And her growth is not stunted. Romantically, yes. But that’s not what this is about.
It’s about caring what they think. In real life, as crazy as this scenario would be, adults don’t care what childish teenage bullies think. Especially with her job and intellect.
She’s actually been mature in a lot of ways that 25 year olds aren’t.
@@fujikokunyou’re incorrectly identifying what you think is stunted growth.
Right 😂

I love that Leelee Sobieski's character looks like a nerd by 90s standards, but if this had been 5 years later she'd be like a cool, indie hipster. 😂
Also the band at the nightclub is Ozomatli. Their first few albums are great.
So glad to find another Leelee Sobieski fan in this comment section because she was the best in the 90s.
@@shanalicachitaI've always liked her for some reason lol

Exactly what I was thinking! And she’s always been attractive, no matter how they tried to make her character nerdy… Lol
Not 5 years later. Hipsters were like 2010. Not 2004.
The most annoying part of Never Been Kissed is that she actually has been kissed. She explains to her co-workers in the beginning of the movie that she has been kissed but never felt that "special" tingle while kissing (or whatever).
I always thought she was lying because she didn't want to be made fun of further.
One time in high school I was watching this and my dad said “what are you watching?” So I replied “never been kissed” and he said “I asked what you were watching, not the story of your life” 😮😂 love that man lmao

The scene when they throw eggs at Josie when she was and actual teenager always broke my heart, she was all dressed up, and was genuinely smiling and excited when he pulled up. Ugh and than her parents hear her cry and she runs off so they dont see her. Truly always made me tear up.
Same. The uncool 2000s high school kid in me related so hard. Though thankfully no one did anything like that to me.
I know! Poor thing 😢
I got egged my first day of high-school, had to go home and shower, it was all ìn my hair. From that point on I was OVER IT. The next day my long time friend group excommunicated me for no apparent reason. I went from social butterfly with perfect attendance to only showing up when I thought I could tolerate the bullying. It was rough.
Omg yes, when her mom calls for her and she’s too ashamed to be seen or she doesn’t want her mom to worry about her, it kills me every time 😫
I still tear up!
29:28 in this whole video, nothing threw me more for a loop and made me laugh harder than her singing 'Why do you have a banana?". i cant even justify why its so funny hahahah
It was my favourite bit too 😆
Same, I had to re-watch that bit two or three times and I was crying every time 😂😂
I came here to make sure I wasn't the only one who found that the funniest part of the video!
Mine too!! Literally doing chores after I’m done watching and still laughing so hard 😂
I like how you put the ad breaks in to the content intentionally and warn us. I’ve never seen another creator do that and it seems nice!
To be fair, I think Josie was less interested in the popular boy and more weirdly obsessed with reliving her high school prom the "right" way.
Honestly, that's exactly the weird part. I don't think that any of us noticed as kids how creepy it was that the teacher had the hots for her when he thought that she was seventeen years old. Just because she wasn't actually a teenager doesn't make it better, because he didn't even know that bit of information. And of course, Josie having a crush on the teenage boy.
He even seemed disappointed when he found out he was "allowed" to be attracted to her
I had the world’s biggest crush on my English teacher in high school and I loved this movie because it made me feel like it was possible something could come of it…. man I was a fckn weirdo 💀💀
Meanwhile, Big is creepy for the exact opposite reason. This poor woman thinks she’s dating a 30 year old Tom Hanks and turns out he’s 13.
She’d have to live the rest of her life knowing that she was accidentally a child molester. What a nightmare!
But then again I can’t feel too bad because she told an actual child to call her in 10 years.
Cough cough grooming cough cough
@@HayleighPaige I had a huge crush on English teacher too.
I knew it was wrong. And I was 12 when it came out.
But, to be fair, he didn't do anything bad. He was attracted to her but he didn't act on it. And he was a young teacher. Like 25...he wasn't THAT much older than her. If he were 30....then yeah super creepy
"Are you in Special Ed?"

I knew a girl in middle school who actually did read a poem she wrote about a guy in front of him and the rest of us in the same class. And it WAS really uncomfortable. But also I'm a little impressed that she did the damn thing 👏👏
I just gave someone poetry I wrote about them a week ago lolol.
Howd he react. Gotta know
@@kaywee4200 He just sat there very obviously in disbelief like "Is this actually happening?" We were all sitting there looking at each other like "Is this real life?" and I'm pretty sure the girl got so emotional she started crying. And then the teacher brushed it off with basically "wow, gutsy" and as far as I know, we all dropped it right away
@@julietmoore9778 oh thank God. Poor girl probably played it out in her head as if this was her moment to get his attention, but when it started not working, she cried or something. Just a guess of emotions. Thank God you all kind of just let it go, it was probably very embarrassing for the both of them. I hope they became friends though. That's something kids would've bullied about where I went 💔
In 9th grade I read poetry infront of my class that was about a guy I like. I still think about it and cringe often 🥲
The first article about the court isn’t a plot hole. Josie didn’t write it, it was a different paper which makes her manager mad, and that is what leads to them filming her at the school. I managed a video store all through high school and this film was a guilty pleasure of mine 😂
Yep! And Josie didn’t carry around toilet paper in her backpack either…the bullies very visibly put it in there. She missed a couple things while making this video lol
The only reason *The Court* article isn't a plothole is Kristin wouldn't read the newspaper
I know Im in the minority but I was raised by a single dad who instilled in me that its wrong for older men to show interest in me and I actually did notice it was weird as a child, I even pointed it out to my aunt and she got mad and said, "It's just a movie!"
Thank goodness someone’s parent wasn’t asleep at the wheel when it came to that. I’m lucky no older men ever *seriously* pursued me because my parents taught me NADA about adult-teen boundaries. 😬
@@tessmoffett5512 tons of older men sexually harassed and assaulted me and I suspect thats very common for girls from poor families since we have to take the city bus and walk places alone often. I'm very lucky I wasn't killed but I was kidnapped and raped once, unfortunately all the good parenting in the world did not make me realize how common rape is and I took rides from strangers because I had the attitude that it only happens on tv, silly now but anyway you'd be shocked by how many me n are predatory. @@aurora8749 I’m genuinely sorry to hear that. It depresses me (often, honestly) to think about kids being taken advantage of like you were. I hope you’ve been able to heal from your experiences and find peace.
@@tessmoffett5512 Thank you. I sort of had but that sort of experience changes the way you view the world forever. I now have this heightened awareness of the type of true evil that exists in the world and honestly even though it was 15 years ago I always have an overwhelming fear someone is either going to kidnap and kill me when Im walking to a store or break in and kill me but its made me a better Mom I think. I will never allow my kids to go unsupervised. Its something that bothers me about my sister, she lets my 8 year old niece play outside alone all day every day. And leaves her at home alone for hours as well. You can't do that. Ive seen so many videos of attempted kidnappings in broad day light. Anyway didnt mean to turn this into a counseling session lol
Yeah my dad was the same I could never get into this movie.
As a teacher, I can confirm: I would NOT hang in a bar drinking and partying in the midst of my students. Then again, I don’t really drink or party. Oh, and I teach fourth grade.
Your Drew Barrymore impression is golden. If you weren’t so wholesome, I swear you’d already have your own sketch comedy show-or be on a preexisting one.
A+++ entertainment as usual, Jaime!! ❤
For real. I'm a teacher & if I see a student out in public, I try to scurry away before they can see me, lol. If that doesn't work I give a big toothy smile and wave and shout "HOW ARE YOU!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!" and flee the scene.
"oh and I teach fourth grade" 🤣
I came across my teenage student with his parents in the wine aisle at the store, and I hid like I was in the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted.
Oh man, when I was in high school there were a couple teachers that were known to party with students. But I went to a rural school in Idaho so

This movie was my absolute favourite, made my husband watch it when we got engaged, watched it on repeat for YEARS. And of course I see it all now 20+ years later but I feel like I would struggle not to enjoy it if I watched it in full now. Also, we regularly quote from this movie, particularly "yikes, bikes!" And when my daughter turned seventeen, I really wanted her to just randomly say, "I'm seventeen. I'm seventeen!" 😂

I always say Mr coolson rocks my world!
I never noticed this before. So, me and my friends had this thing about David Arquette where he just seemed to be literally everywhere in the late ‘90s and we couldn’t understand why he was so famous. Anytime he’d show up in a movie, tv show, music video, etc we would all make a big deal about it and it became this hilarious thing between us. Cut to the summer of 1997 and I’m at a music festival with 3 of these friends, the Offspring and Foo Fighters are headlining, and just as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones leave the stage, some weird guy runs out onto the stage, grabs the mic, and starts speaking weird gibberish…but everyone is losing their minds. As this guy is leaving the stage, one of the band members announces “David Arquette, everyone!” Lol. Our collective jaws hit the floor and we still talk about it to this day.
Strangely, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy played at this festival. The late ‘90s “swing revival” was so strange.

Edit: Also, he is on the ferris wheel with her talking about how he is still afraid to commit to his girl-friend, especially after five years? Even if this was in an age-appropriate setting, that's another HUGE red flag! He gave Josie her first kiss, but probably not her last. Just sayin'.
And then his AUDACITY to be mad at her?? Lmao why you mad bro? Cause she was about to expose your creepy ass??? Josie really is attracted to guys who are disgusting.
Why are 17 year olds at a nightclub?
@Radhia Deedou in a lot of 90s and early 2000s teen media, they feature nightclubs that are teen centric. I don't know if nightclubs for teens are or have been a real thing, but it was definitely an idea they ran with in a lot of films and shows back then.
Under 18 clubs or hours were a thing in Scotland in 2000 and 2010. Got tossed out of one once lol

This movie will always hold significance for me simply because of how it portrays the trauma of being bullied. I was the Josie Grossie of my high school to the point where I made myself sick too. I hid the bullying from my mom because I was so ashamed (so the egg scene just makes me bawl every time). This movie validated my experience and made me feel like things could change someday. And I literally had the hot chem teacher tell me that I would have tons of guys into me when I was his age. The creep factor is super strong in this movie for sure, but no other teen movie for me captured the misery of being the bullied kid like this one did.

I just slouched in my chair mortified. These girls were really sweet people but man they couldn't read a room.
Funny thing about the Princess Diaries fall montage is that Anne actually did fall. Proving that she is in fact the main character and all of us are just the supporting act.
I'm kind of surprised that Jamie didn't immediately crack a joke about the whole "let's put glasses on an obviously beautiful girl and pretend she's hideous!" trope when we got to Leelee Sobieski's character.

I love how this film couldn’t just make Rob’s high school girlfriend a senior (so 17 / 18) but she just HAD to be 16.
Ikr?? Like it would have been so easy if she was just 18 and it would have made it so much less creepy. Still creepy but so much less creepy since 23 and 18 isn’t a huge gap and it’s LEGAL
@@housecat5958 The whole thing goes totally over your head if you are European of that generation. 16 and 23 would have sounded creepy to some parents, and definitely not to teens, not at that time. Having been an unattractive teenager myself: yes, at least some girls who are unattractive wallflowers or bullying victims at 16 don't have that problem 10 years later. And yes, I wish somebody had told me so outright at 16, even if it was a male teacher. By now I am happily married, but in school, you think your social role never changes.

In high high school we had this super popular Chem teacher who worked at the school for years. I had him for 1 day and he gave me the creeps. I didn't like how he looked at me...
Well, he didn't show up the next day because it was discovered he'd had a relationship with a student. It came out in the tiral that he had gotten her pregnant and wanted to pay for her to have an abortion. Oh, he also had a fiance who lived on the other side of our state who didn't find out until crap hit the fan.
He looked like balding, melting Tommy Wiseau action figure so I'm not sure what either saw in him.
I had a perma-grin PLASTERED SILLY over my face the entire video. So funny. Bravo!
Ironically, not only is Drew Barrymore playing older than her actual age (not by much, but she was 24) she was still IRL younger here than most actors cast to play actual teenagers in other films where the plot does not in any way involve age deception.
That's a really good point actually 🤔
I think the point is that people don’t like when they perpetuate being attracted to younger girls as a normal thing
@@jordanbradley3529 not trying to dispute that AT ALL. In-universe, definite ick! Just thought it was amusing that this supposedly unconvincing teenager was in fact younger than some people we are meant to believe are still in high school, in other media
Damone from Fast Times at Ridgemont High will always be my favorite. That kid was not a day under 40
@@PedroBenolielBonito that is very interesting! I mainly made my point for the readers looking to justify their own crappy habits
That one scene where she gets egged by the guy she thought was her prom date... yeah. That's still sad to this day. Drew's cry broke my heart.
That scene is so awful I can’t watch the movie anymore.

Josie hadn't written the court article, it was a rival paper. I think the good thing that came from the movie is that she learned not to live in her high school trauma and her brother learned he peaked in high school.
Exactly!
Makes me we wonder who the other reporter is. This story is scooped and so is the story of her outing herself at the prom.
I think it's Franco's character "Jason." A couple hints pointing in this direction are that his character tries a little too hard to fit in. He says "roofalicious" instead of "roofus" and has other moments in the film where he looks more like an awkward observer than a High School student.
I was looking for this comment. Josie didn't write that article. She got in trouble for *not* writing it.
@@lizabethneu7295 Right! That's why they wanted her to go after the creeper teacher.

The sprite can from the 80s flashback scene was clearly the Sprite graphics from the 2000s. That always stood out to me..

Jaime I have come to enjoy your content so much within the past year , so much that it’s become sort of a comfort for me. I have a rare autoimmune disease that causes me to have to give myself injections every two weeks . I get so nervous and anxious doing this. Recently I have been playing your videos in the background while I do my injections and it greatly relieved my anxiety and distracts me from the pain. Very random but I just wanted to share how your videos not only entertain but also
Help in my own day to day struggles .
The egg throwing scene still gets me. It’s so heartbreaking. I loved this movie so much as a teenager lol but mostly I think I just loved Drew Barrymore 😅
I know it was so 💔, still makes me cry ughhh
As an older woman I can say I always found this creepy! It reminds me of 'Pretty Little Liars' and the student teacher romance on that. My daughter loved that show and there I was, always being church Karen and ranting about how sick it was that they portrayed a teacher grooming their student as 'romantic' and 'sexy'. It was gross! Now my daughter gets it. But when you're a young teen you just don't realize how sick and wrong it really is!
I loved the show Pretty Little Liars and use to watch it all the time after school with my best friend. Several years later after becoming a mother, I watched one episode again and about fell out with the realization that a grown man had a relationship with a minor and continued that relationship after finding out she was underaged. Now I wholeheartedly understand why my mom was so ''strict'' about who I hung out with.
I have been following you for years, I love that your full movie reviews are basically the inside of my mind and every single thing I think of that I thought no one else noticed 😂😂
Omg, your Joise impression is spot on!

Legally Blonde was my vhs repeat, I still like it but later on I realized she did not have to be a criminal lawyer, she could have been a corporate lawyer who specifically works for the fashion industry, blending both her loves together.
Legally Blonde was released in 2001, DVDs were already widely used, VHS was well on it's way out by then.

My movie was Kiki's Delivery Service.
In my tiny town I grew up in, we had a VHS rental store (not Blockbuster) where you could get 4 movie for 4 days for 4 dollars, or something like that. And there were 4 of us in the family so everyone got to pick one movie each week to rent. I always picked Kiki's Delivery Service. Eventually got it on DVD as a gift for a birthday years later, but by this point I can recite the whole movie by heart.
Also named my cat Kiki.
My 8 yr old loves all of those movies. Kiki, Totoro, Castle in the sky, howl, spirited away. They’re all so good.
I love kiki!!!! Such a sweet movie
me too!!! and pocahontas lol
My story is exactly like yours except i kept my neighbor totoro constantly checked out from our mom n pop rental place.
Howls moving castle and spirited away we're my favorites as a kid to rent on VHS ugh 😩 that was a locked memory lol 💗

I just found your channel and I can’t stop watching. This movie was also one of my favs in high school and it’s hilarious to see how bad it’s aged. I think I like your retelling of the movie much more than rewatching it! 😂
Should have made Sam a guy she had a crush on in college who recognizes her and agrees to keep her secret. Would have been a very different movie but that's not a bad thing in this case.
It could work! He still could have had the girlfriend he was moving with as part of the conflict or somehow his involvement with knowing her secret could have maybe had bad consequences for him aka lose his job, get in trouble for lying etc.
That would have been so much better! Especially if he tried to help make her cool lol
@@JamieLBW Yeah, I liked that she had a brother to help her in that area but Sam would have worked too.
Wow you just wrote a better scenario on the fly after 24 yrs *slow clap* Then that line he says "Are you sure you're 17" would make sense of his suspicions

Despite the messy parts, I can't help but still love this movie. I reckon it's because we know they're all actually in their 30s so no illegal stuff is happening. Plus, Drew is just so loveable
Agree! I will never stop loving this movie. I used to watch this movie with my mom after we would rage clean our house. Same! Still one of my favorites 😂❤
Yup
If they were trying to make Drew Berrymore's character look younger and like a teenager, they did a horrible job. They did the opposite. The short over hairsprayed hair with the bleached eyebrows made her look like a middle aged church lady named Tammy.😂 If they wanted to make her look younger they should have given her a wig with longer hair and darkened her eyebrows and make them look thicker.
That was what was fashionable back then, so teenagers who wanted to look good did look like that.
@@rebeccahicks2392 dang. Really???💀
@@rebeccahicks2392 I mean I grew up then and was a preteen when this movie came out and even then I thought they aged her with the looks, hair, and makeup they put her in. Avocado toast was spot on with that description. It's like what a middle aged church lady named Tammy would think a teenager would wear after spending too much time watching legally blonde and Disney channel, rather than what actual teenagers were wearing at the time, which was definitely not whatever this was.
@@beebop9184 Yeah, I was a teenager in 1999 and bleached brows and volumous hair were not in fashion. She looks bizarre.
It wasnt the fashion...just look at the popular girls in the movie..They looked nothing like that..I suppose if you consider it was josies peers, who are much older..That would make sensr..Drew is beautiful..They could have done better

Hey, journalist here, yes sometimes assignments are this weird. I was assigned to go undercover at private schools (like 7 years ago) as a teacher in the middle east...no subject/topic was assigned. But I somehow wrote like 5 articles with literally millions of readers view each article. Loved this Jaime

I had a MASSIVE crush on Mr. Colson and was so jealous of Josie. 😂 Also, Drew Barrymore just killed it in this movie. Absolutely aged horribly, Mr. Colson is a creep and Josie definitely gets weird with Guy, but her flashback scenes always get me. I cried every time with the prom scene.

Teen Witch is another movie I think would be a great to review. It’s an 80s teen dramady about a girl who gets magical powers and uses them to get her crush to fall in love with her and of course things go awry. It includes but is not limited to a ridiculous song and dance number by cheerleaders in a locker room, and an unbelievably cringey rap battle which there is an interview for years later by the cast who talk about how lost they were doing the scene.
Ooeeerr yes! I 2nd that.
