Same! Glitter was on my list of "bad movies" to try & see if I agreed with the hype. We all have those movies we love that get a ton of hate & we're , "what?! No! It's AWESOME!" But sometimes we agree it sucks. This was 1 I wanted to try & now know I can mark it off the list!
Christina Aguilera is a fantastic singer as well, but someone described it once like Christina Aguilera's singing always sounds like driving a truck up a steep hill, while Mariah Carey's singing always sounds completely effortless and joyful like a light snowfall.
There’s an infamous video of her singing “ have yourself a Merry Little Christmas” where she is literally belting it out the entire time. You could see her neck veins just full of blood!! 😂😂😂

Thank you for pointing that out! Girls are far too hard on themselves! I mean I know we always have been, but not like kids are today. I own a prom and bridal store with my mom and all day all I could think about was how EVERY SINGLE girl I worked with talked badly about herself... like I'm fat, I'm ugly, this is wrong with me, that is wrong with me, and I'm talking these little girls were like Sizes 00 + ..saying they were fat ... I just, I just hate it for them. Every one of them I work with are beautiful inside and out, of course I have my moments where there are exceptions to that but it's not often, I wish I could tell them something that would change their Outlook on themselves. But a teenager who has spent most of their life with something in their hand telling them constantly something differently, obviously a stranger won't do much for their thought process. These kids are going through so much I wish they would all watch Jamie! she is an amazing young lady and I think she would be such an awesome role model for these girls. She's quirky she still has her little badass side and she's beautiful and gentle and can kick ass if she needs to I'm sure! That is not something girls have anymore. And it's messing them up. I work with probably 300 to 500 girls a week and it's I guess I could say almost all of them no matter what size they are. Honestly, in the business that I'm in, I have found that it's the bigger girls that are the most self-confident with themselves and their bodies. There again, not all of them but more than the little ones for sure. Anyway, I just wish these girls out there had somebody like Jamie that was awesome to look to rather than, well...

Glitter was inspired by a movie called Sparkle hence the name. The original was good but had a sad ending. There was a remake of Sparkle that Aaliyah was supposed to star in but she unfortunately passed away beforehand. BTW - Mariah's ex sabotaged the film's soundtrack and probably was responsible for the numerous over the top negative reviews. Please review Spice World.

In all fairness to the "terrible singer with the LOOK" no audition thing... my daughter (now 15) auditioned for Disney at age 6 and just had immediate, terrible stage fright. However, she was still invited to the call back. One of the execs said that though they didn't get to see her talents, she had the LOOK they were going for (bright blonde hair, golden skin, green eyes.) My daughter begged not to go back so we didn't take her again, but that always did stand out to me/threw me off. That they mostly didn't care what she could do, just that she looked exactly what they hoped for.
This doesn't sit right with me for multiple reasons.

I don't think that's THAT weird. It's not like she got CAST because she had the look, and surely casting directors are familiar with the concept that 6 year olds might choke at a first audition. It's nice to say "well you have the look we were going for, so you can come back later to audition a second time" imo.

I knew it thats Padma Lakshmi or what ever her name is, I didnt know she was in this movie, or any movie, but I adore her.
This is sad because Mariah can actually act when in the right movie with the right script. She was really good in "Precious" as a social worker. Her role was minimal but very memorable and well acted. Especially her acting sequence with Mo'nique.
And she was really fun in Wise Girls

Side note but I feel like Mariah Carey has such an interesting face that is such a pretty canvas for make up looks - she just has so much eye space and these beautiful broad cheeks, but her makeup looks seemed so flat for this entire film. I know at this time in her career she did a lot of more natural looks but even so natural doesn't have to be flat.

Best terrible movie ever. I accidentally watched that movie stoned one time and wrote pages and pages of notes about amazing character development, plot twists, top-notch performances, and incredible editing.
I don’t admit this often. 😳
But I watched it many times since then and, although I still love it, I can’t quite tap into whatever it was that spoke to me as brilliant. 🤷🏼♀️

I just suggested it! It's hilarious, how many scenes ended with her having a tanty and walking off in a really exaggerated huff, the fucking in the hot tub is so cringy because it's obvious they are both struggling to get their crotch's anywhere near one another with the water working against them!
When Showgirls came out most people I knew told me to see it because it is so bad

The reason Mariah had a breakdown straight after this was released is because of the constant problems with this movie. The script kept getting changed on her, it was changed so far from her vision. Plus old man Sony, Tommy Motola was firing never ending pot shots behind the scenes because Mariah had the NERVE to divorce him.
OMG I wish she talks about this in her memoir, I want her to expose Tommy Payola
