No one on you tube does this kind of thing better than you! Accurate, helpful and done in such an entertaining and stylish way. Thank you
Best comment! ;) thanks a lot man!
Top quality video as always
Keep them coming
Thanks brother!
I like this pack and I like the other sizes of it, too. I like having the single bucket compartment entrance. It works well as a travel bag and it works well as a day pack. I store everything in systems and like this feature, as i don't want to lose anything. You can also pull the drawstring and then lay your jacket down over it and then strap the top pocket flap over it and secure it. I like the simplicity of this pack and that it doesn't have a lot of exteral stuff. I wish the side pockets had dedicated compression straps on them, but my water bottles hardly ever come out unintentionally, so its really not much of a problem. I would agree that the access is a little "fiddly", but doable. Thanks for the video on an awesome product. I have the two smaller sizes and would certainly consider the largest size if I was doing more than an overnight. I wish there was a pass through, or something that would easily secure a hatchet... but not a big deal at all.
Hey, yeah I agree with you on all points here, I find that they solved a lot of this in the Keb backpack, it’s just so we’ll thought trough! Have a look at that video and let me know what you think! :)
As always great review, Ted! I love this backpack also for its functions, comfortably to wear (hip belt = love) and its build quality. The design plays in a own league.....worth every penny!
I use this pack for day hikes or "short" hut hikes.
Thanks brother!! Is there a feature that you wish it would have?
TedWeirum A front loader function would be nice for a easyier access and i do agree your point with the bottom access (sleeping bag). I also miss the D-Ring to attach the GPS (as well on the Kajka backpack).....but thats all "complaining on a high level" :)
Yeah! There’s a small flat bungeelooking thing on one of the shoulder straps, it’s meant for the hydration hose but it might work for the gps aswell? Also it would be nice to have some attachment options at the top and bottom but then again the bag might become to advanced!
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah you're right Ted, that should work, good idea!
A strap on the bottom for the ISO mat or something like that would be pretty helpful .....but I guess Fjällräven limited that pack for a reason in its functions, as you said before. Thanks for your replies!
It would be nice, if you can make a video about your Hiking gear someday! :)
Thanks man! When you say hiking gear you mean like axes and such? I’ll see what I can do, great idea!
Short, nice and to the point video. I travelled with this backpack for six months, my only complaint was the smallish hip-belt pockets.
Thank you for your input! Sounds like a cool adventure! :)
Nice sharing! I had this for about 2 years and brought this for the Fjallraven Classic Hong Kong last year. It is very comfortable and though I have the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 3400 which is half the weight of Kaipak38, this seems more comfortable. My pack weight including water and MRE was about 11kg for the trek.
Thanks Donald! It’s a sturdy pack with all the essential features! Sounds like an awesome adventure! Thanks for watching!
Nice review. Thanks! I just ordered the 38L in green. I have a REI Traverse 35 and need just a little more room for an overnight or 2. This seems perfect. Looks like a durable pack that will take some abuse. Can't wait to get it. 👍
Thanks for watching! It’s absolutely durable and will definitely take a beating! I’m sure you’ll have many great adventures with it!
@@TedWeirum I already tried it a couple times and although a smidge heavier than most I love it and found my go to overnight/2 nightpack. Very durable.
Sounds great!
Got the Kaipak 28, and the Abisko Hike 35. Love both of them. The Kaipak for Dayhikes and the Abisko for light Trekking tours.
Both of them are some heck of an quality item.
Awesome review, as always. Like i mention before, i love the fact, that you TEST the gear, before you film a review about it.
Thanks man! It means a lot to me! The problem with using it and testing it for a longer time is that it’s not so “relevant” any more and other creators will post reviews about it when it’s just released or even before so it’s hard to make a living like that! I’ll really glad you notice that though! :)
Great that You did this review as well Ted, i'm looking for a backpack in this size for dayhikes and up to lightweight overnighters. Between this Kaipak and the Bergtagen, which one would you choose?
I would go with the kaipak, it has more pockets and storage options that can come in handy on a day hike/one nighter! Happy camping! :)
@@TedWeirum Thanks for your input, they seem to have the same weight with Bergtagen in full config.
Sounds about right!
Hey Ted! Have you used the new friluft 35/45? Any opinions on it?
The friluft 35 looks almost like the same bag, but with side entrances and trampoline.
Hey Carl! I haven’t gotten the opportunity to try it out yet, I’ve just seen it a couple of times but it looks like an awesome bag, hope I get to try it!
Fits the backpack to everyone
Everyone fits the backpack
Thank
Nice review. I'm very interested by this backpack. Would you say it is a good one for someone that is 1,90m tall ? (that is the only reason why I hesitate).
I’m 181cm and I never felt weird using it, I think you’d be fine!
I have one too, great rucsack, but sweaty on the back in hit weather- I use it as my travel and Winter bag. Friluft Abisko 35 in summer.
Yeah, I agree on that! How do you like the friluft?
TedWeirum, not as bombproof as G1000 but very comfortable- shape is a bit weird as it's not a classic 'cylinder' rucsack. Mesh stretchy panel pockets and backflap really useful. Hip belt a bit 'flappy' when putting it on compared to Kaipak.
Thanks man, I’m considering the friluft 45 but I’m not sure! Thanks for the input!
TedWeirum welcome bud, definately a great summer bag (give it a coating of Fabsil every spring to help with water repellancy ). Got an old Bergen 45 too great when its wet or when kayaking but miss the hood pockets. And of course a Kajka 80. You know that one well
I have One in 45. Its ok . Nothing Really bad to Say beside wieght. Side pockets are BIG. Walked over 200km with the pack in 25-37°c . My problem was i got to tiny on the trail. So the hip strap was to loose. I fixed this by pulling it tho the alu frame and click 1 carbine to the ends and locked them. Worked, but not perfect. I wouldn't go on long trips with these packs. Ty for the vids! Awesome always.
Take care
Thanks for the thorough review. Can you offer any info how the waist belt fits for people with taller torsos? I can't find this info anywhere online, including on Fjallraven's sites. My torso is ~23 inches or 58.4 cm, so the belts on every pack I've tried that doesn't have an adjustable harness or that doesn't come in L/XL size don't reach my hips--they're more like "stomach belts." But I really want a simple pack constructed like this one, so I'm hoping it will fit...
Hey Matthew! Thanks for watching! To answer your question: I think you might have the same effect on this bag as well, it’s a tough one, if I were you I’d look in to the Keb backpack, it’s has some similarities with this one but it’s a bit more advanced with an adjustable hip belt, I made a video about it!
@@TedWeirum OK. Thanks very much for the response. I really appreciate it.
No worries mate!
Hi Ted, I recently purchased a 2nd hand one and the lid is detachable
Like with clips or how do you take it of? It’s detachable, with a lot of fiddling, if there’s clips on it it’s easier to take on and off and maybe even using the lid as a chest pack
@@TedWeirum the back is attached with straps and I just had to loosen them completely. It's not something I want to do on the fly.
Yeah, that’s what I meant too, it’s would have been a different story with buckles! :)
What's the max load using this backpack? Have you ever used the Fjällräven Abisko Friluft 45? If so which one offers more hip belt support?
I’ve tried the friluft 45, it’s a great pack, I was interested in getting it but ended up keeping this one for the time being. I’d say that the kaipak is a bit stronger in the hip support.
Don’t know the maximum weight capacity on this pack, it’s made for day hikes and cabin overnighters, with that said it’s still a strong and durable pack. In terms of hiking for a day or two you could fill it up and carry it conveniently without a problem.
Ted Weirum not sure if you were aware, but the Abisko Friluft is a different pack versus the old friluft. The newer Abisko Friluft is amazing. I have the women’s version and it’s really stable. Happy trails! ;)
Hey! Yes I’m aware, i think that the Abisko friluft is an amazing pack, I can see why you like it. Thanks for your comment, happy hiking!
Ted Weirum Happy hiking to you!
Amazing job on the video. Thanks for sharing. Love the bag
Also love your editing skills and what you did with your channel.
You have my subscription would love to have your support as well.

Thanks joe! I’ll have a look at your channel!
Bra funktioner, finns den i större storlek 70-100L?
58L är det största!
Shalom
Hello! could you please tell me if it could be folded or squished so that I could take it as carry-on backpack? (55cm length is a max for ryanair). or would you recommend any other fjallraven backpack which would be a bit shorter? I am looking for a backpack to use in the summer. thank you so much in advance :)
Yeah, you can! Still a big backpack, tell me more what you will use it for? Day hikes? Overnighters?
I definitely think you’re on the right track! :)
@@TedWeirum Thank you :) Do you think Fjallraven Abisko Friluft 35 would also fit 55cm? Does it fold a bit?
The frame there is aluminum so I would try that! :)
Hey Ted ! I use the Kaipak 38 now since 2 years and it is really good for Overnighter Trips in the Mountains. What Is the Name of your Shirt ? Best regards Volker
Hey Volker! That would be the övik T-shirt! Thanks for watching!
Make it a frontloader!
Just cut out the thin material dividing primary and secondary compartment.
Interesting concept! :)
One more comment, I used this bag as a carry on bag, it is no problem at all.
YU ZHAO yeah, it’s a really great feature!
If you had to pick one: Kaipak v. Kajka ... discuss! =)
Haha, Good one! I mean it all depends on your adventure or what you’re gonna do. If it came down to just these two I’d probably go with the kajka since it’s a bit more versatile! How about you?
@@TedWeirum I have both and I'd have to say Kajka for the same reason as you, but I also find that the carrying system on the Kajka is just so much more comfortable even if I have significantly more weight on my back with the Kajka. The Kajka really drives that weight to my legs better than any pack I've tried :) You convinced me with your Kajka review to buy it lol
Haha, I’m glad I did, I really like that pack, it’s just like you say, even when carrying a ton on your back you feel solid and that the weight is distributed to the right places! How about this, tights or trousers? ;)
@@TedWeirum Difficult choice!!! Right now I'd have to go with the trousers because of the abrasion protection and protection from the wind. I've tried almost every trouser in their lineup so far and the Abisko Trousers are my favorite at the moment :D
Sounds great! :)
hi ted. I've watched quite a few of your videos and a rather like them. Just one little thing I've noticed, the on- screen texts (like the one at the start of this video) are sometimes not shown for long enough for me to read them. I hope you don't mind me saying that. It is just meant as a bit of constructive criticism :)
Hey man! Thanks for watching the videos! You are correct, the text is not shown long enough but actually do that on purpose because I don’t want to “take your time” with details, like in this video you are there to watch the review not me and my son.. but at the same time I want to have a little stain of personality in there, hence the short text! Basically you would have to pause the video if you would want to read the whole thing. Would you rather have the text there for a longer time?
hmm.. when you put it like that, I can see that you have a purpose behind it. I guess I'm just not used to it :P btw your editing on the whole is spot on :)
Thanks man! I try my best! :) I get better and better so hopefully you will be able to see the difference a bit more in the future! :)
I used this bag to hike in Trolltunga, lovely and functional . Sexy is the only word I want to comment this bag. Every single piece of this product is designed to hike and heavy duty.
Hahahaha, I get what you mean!! :)
Price?
Yes.
Mos def!
Pfft, blaming your son...
Haha, he’s to blame for a lot of things! :)
