    I recently noticed that Fjallraven has synthetic down jackets. I would like to try one out up here in northern Minnesota during the winter. I was recently looking to pick up another backpack and was considering buying the Keb72 but couldn't find any video reviews online. Now that I have seen you hugging yours, I am wondering if my initial impression was correct, and it is as good a pack as I thought that it would be. I guess that I will have to be satisfied with my new Osprey Kestrel for now. Oh well, you live, and you learn. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. Greetings from the west coast of Canada! Planning a trek like this definitely takes careful planning and you seem to have done really well. For myself, I'm heading out for a 1200 km (2-month) trek in the Rocky Mountains, and most of it is above the treeline. The longest stretch without being able to restock is about 2 weeks in the mountains. You did this 1000 km trek a year ago using the Keb 72. I was curious if you found that more than sufficient or if you wished you had a bit more room? I'm trying to decide if I will be getting the Keb 72 or Kajka 85 L pack. ** Oh, and yes, about the tights...I normally wouldn't get those, but you inspired me to get a pair. I've already tried them a couple of times here and I have to say that I am amazed at how comfortable they are 🙃

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  Před rokem +1

      Hahaha, ten points for the tights!! So glad you like them! :)
      Remember that I had a ton of camera gear as well so I’d say that the keb 72 is sufficient! This sounds very interesting! Best of luck brother!

    Hi there Ted, i also have the Keb 72 i live in a very dry dessert area. Most of the time places don’t have a lot of water so hiking with 4L-6L of water for a 2day adventure is quite normal.
    Nevertheless the pack gets extremely heavy i did weighed mine to almost 50-60lb now in winter ( winter is a heavy game anyways)
    My question is do you know from your personal experience what is the birchwood load tolerance. Or if you ever felt that after so much load the frame was gonna snap out?

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  Před 2 lety +5

      very good question, I Neve considered that! well, the way its designed it's just as strong as an aluminum frame. I was never worried or even concerned that it would break, the thought never crossed my mind! it's very sturdy!

    How on earth did you fit All that in to a keb 72 😮 i have the keb 72 aswell... Impressive!
    I know you've used the kajka backpack previously. Do you prefer the keb over the kajka? You Seem to be a man with fairly wide shoulders, like myself, and i'm thinking about getting the kajka for the abillity to adjust the width on the shoulderstraps, as i sometimes feel the keb to be a bit narrow for comfort on longer trips. Also i miss the abillity to open Up the big compartment room, compared to the keb being topfilled.

    • @TedWeirum

      yes, I do prefer the keb over the kajka, I really think the keb is a perfected backpack, so glad I used it for this adventure!

    Fantastiskt bra serie; innehåll, sceneri, tempo etc etc. Jag uppskattade särskilt att du delade även de stunder tårarna kom, av olika skäl. Om det är tufft för en person i den liga du spelar så känns det ok för mig i gärdsgårdsserien att tycka det är jobbigt. Dessutom visade du att det är på allvar, vilket minskar risken att andra ger sig ut dåligt förberedda.
    En fråga: Du gick väldigt långt med tung packning och dessutom var det många vad. Hur kom det sig att du inte tog med stavar, för balans, för avlastning för rygg/core? Kanske säger du det i videon men då missade jag det.

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  Před 2 lety +3

      Otroligt fint att läsa detta Ralf, uppskattar det verkligen! känns otroligt skönt att få ett kvitto på att det man vill förmedla gått fram!
      stavarna ja, detta är ju ett evigt problem för mig, när jag filmar så kan jag inte ha stavarna också, jag går med kameran i handen alltid förutom när det regnar, även ibland då också. prio är filmningen, balans och så vidare får komma sekundärt. en risk kanske men jag tar det så försiktigt jag kan, än så länge har det inte varit några större problem! :)

    The full pack are what the Norwegian Armed Forces use, and what Real started with. Soldiers get three packs, breakfast, lunch and dinner - the latter are interchangeable. Breakfast is musli with either chocolate or berries, and *loaded* with sugar, way too sweet for me. The food quality is awesome, and the bars are top notch. Hell, even the coffee is good! We bring one lunch/dinner pack each as backups, even on short trips. The green packs are about 20% larger than the orange ones - add a roll, and we share an orange one as a quick meal on longer roadtrips.

    Hi Ted!!
    Nice clips!! Really interesting.
    Noticed you had both the Kajka and the Keb packs, so wonder if you could share your thoughts on which way to go.
    I'm in search of a 60 - 65 liter pack to do 2 / 3 night trips and thought to go for the Kajka 65, but just see that the dimensions are not that different from the Keb 72. Any strong arguments to go for the one or the other?
    Both will be good packs and since I'm a little bit a Fjallraven fanboy it will end up between these two bags.
    Your thoughts on this are appreciated.

    Are you somewhat sponsored or get discount on these products - you mentioned REAL food? It's first time I see so much Fjällräven and heavy equipment in a gear video! So is it because of sponsor, discount, personal choice or money?

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  Před 2 lety

      I’ve been doing this for 5 years now, I love Fjällräven, it’s the brand I started out using and by time the saw what I was about and they wanted to help me, So short answer is personal choice.
      I reached out to REAL and asked them if they were interested in helping out and after some talks they decided to help me, of course I’m very glad for that help as it was an essential part of my adventure! :)
      I hear all the time that I use heavy gear, I get what people when and yes if you just see the numbers it sure adds up, but for me it’s also quality, environmental, design and comfort, everything I use is probably heavier than most other things but I feel very comfortable using it and I know I can trust my gear if things turn sideways, that’s more important to me! Very good question! :)
