- If you don't get your takeaway right in the golf swing you will find it very difficult to strike your irons solid and hit your driver straight.
The golf swing takes less than 1.5 seconds to complete of which only 0.5 seconds applies to your downswing. This means that if you aren't in a great position at the top of your golf swing, you literally have no time to consistently make the necessary improvements to strike your irons perfect or hit your driver straight.
We are all looking for simple golf tips that help us produce an effortless golf swing and I believe todays golf lesson could be a game changer for your golf.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On CZcams and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If it's a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing - Sport
Danny you are a super star! Your online coaching lessons are truly amazing and simply inspirational. I’m 68 years old, had a hip replacement 6 months ago, decided to supplement my physiotherapy by going to the driving range, never touched a golf club in my life, and started hitting balls!
I’ve followed your instructions diligently, suffered all the issues as warned against by you, corrected as suggested, and to date making wonderful progress!
There’s no looking back. I’m hooked thanks to you.
Keep up the great lessons and your contribution to promoting golf as a sport for all ages. 👍😊☺️👏
That’s so great to hear Steph. I love hearing stories like this
I was blown away by this and the fact that you were able to reach this in a hurricane makes it even more amazing. Thank you 😊
Thanks Blaze 👍
Lol, nice pun, "blown away by this", was it intended? 😂
@@alanbrodie5215 most definitely.
Most definitely.
One thing I noticed at the range the other day was by slowing my backswing down I was able to think about what I was doing. I think us high handicappers (I'm 28.3) tend to rush and snap at the shot. Your videos are great Danny, I think of you as part of my coaching team along with my PGA coach.
Excellent Danny! Thank you for this great video!! Happy New Year!
Haven't played for 6 months due to disillusionment in my swing ( massively over complicate 😢)
Took these thoughts to the range and it really helped me get back to basics with no stress.
That’s wonderful to hear Simon, welcome back
I have this exact same problem!
Wow, just wow. I have been struggling with a couple of issues in my swing, causing a massive loop at the top of back swing leading to a in to out swing path. Good for a draw, but nothing else. I followed both your tips during my last round and shot an 82 (with ice on some greens) including a 280 yard drive, which almost gave me a nose bleed 😁. It even helped with my short game. These tips are brilliant, but it makes me wonder why after 35 years playing and numerous professional lessons, this is the first time I have seen this. You are a true hero👍
as always Danny you have found a way to simplify it to us average golfers. Thank you!! You seem like an awesome, truly genuine person and for that I thank you! Jmoe from Dayton Ohio
Really like Jmoe
I'm 69 years old in a couple of weeks and when I'm playing golf I still try and hit the ball as far as I did when I was in my thirties. Your online lessons have helped me sustain that power and ball striking accuracy although I am not as supple as I used to be. Thank you Danny.
That’s awesome to hear Don
My swing has recently been all over the place. This has brought me back on track. Thanks a million!
Very clear and easy to understand
Love these small snap shots into the proper swing movements
10 out of 10
Glad it was helpful!
Danny another brilliant video
Love it! Thanks Danny! I got my indoor driving range set up in my garage and been studying your videos. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
Glad to help Doug and thanks for your support 👍
I just started golfing in November, and irons have been the bane of my existence. Your videos have helped me so much and today out at the range I got some good swings in. Thank you for your videos!
Really happy to help Aidan
Again superbly well demonstrated. Brilliant!Happy new year!
Thanks so much Andrew all the best
This is a great video Danny.. very impressed with your teaching and the way you simplify things.. thanks so much!!
You're very welcome Brian, happy to help
Danny this is fantastic! I’ve been a “roller” of my wrist in the takeaway ever since I started playing 15 years ago. Ive watched countless videos trying to find a correction, but nothing seemed to work (in the interest of fairness, a couple of them were yours). Took this to the range today and noticed a difference in my ball striking immediately - it’s by far the most concise explanation of how to maintain the Y I’ve come across. Can’t wait to keep grooving this and work up to a full swing!
That’s amazing to hear
Thank you once again for an outstanding lesson!!! Keeping it simple
You are very welcome Andrew
Kudos to your videographer for the excellent sound quality in the gail force winds! Regarding the swing tip, I discovered this breakdown in my swing a few weeks ago. Fixed the “Y” and hit 3/4 shots laser straight. Struggle now is to get it proper with full swing. I am trying to be patient and lengthen the swing a few inches every day while maintaining proper form.
That’s exactly the way to do it
Danny, I am not a great golfer, but I have improved vastly. Golfing for under 9 months, but you are the best out there. We appreciate you!
Super kind thank you
Some great drills to start the year Danny thanks 👍⛳️
Thanks Mike and Happy New Year! 🥳
New year, new very informative lessons. Thanks Danny much appreciated 👍🥃🇨🇦
Thank you Tom!
Thanks Danny, your videos are brilliant. I had a round of golf on Sunday and was not playing very consistent. My playing partner took a video of my swing and on seeing this video I have noticed exactly what you have showed. I lost the Y at the 3 o'clock - this is a light bulb moment. I went to the range and was hitting the ball very consistent. Now I just have to take this practice to the golf course!
I've been watching all your videos and this one helped me get better striking of my irons. This is where I was weak as I can hit a great drive, and then ruin it with my very next iron shot. Thanks for the simple drills that made me a much better golfer.
Really happy to help Chas
same happens to me all the time - great drive, followed by rubbish irons. This Y shaped drill is superb and hopefully i will now improve on the irons.
Danny thanks so much for your videos - so easy to follow and understand!
Glad you like them! Really happy to help
Great advices. I have been struggling alot with this. Thanks again Danny!
Glad you like them! Jesse 👍
Great visuals. Thank you!
Pleasure Kenneth, all the best
Love the incorporation of the theraband and ball. Simple and easy to understand, right on dude!
Thank you all the best
Great video. Even more impressive that you were fighting the weather. This reinforces what I’ve found in the past but I tend to loose the feeling and my consistency suffers. The drills are fantastic and so simple to understand and put into practice.
Really kind Mark thank you
Great lesson Danny. Well done for braving the elements 👍
Thanks Alan 👍
Great video Danny. I am obsessed with your video with Pete Cowan a couple of months back, because of this I’ve never hit the ball better, and it’s good to see your recent content is using the fundamentals discussed with him although you are adding your own stamp to it. So relatable and easy to incorporate into my practice with great ball striking and control as a result. Thanks Danny 👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Lee 👍
Great way to start the year, another awesome presentation, thanks Danny truly appreciated
Really happy to help
Thank you for all of your videos. I have played gold off and on most of my life. Since I have started watching your videos. My game has gotten much better but more importantly when I start to make mistakes I can fix it on the course. Keep up the good work.
That’s so awesome to hear John well done
its like you make videos personally for me!! Great vid
@DanielMaude , Danny ! I played today at Massey Park in Concord , Sydney . I watched your video 'Always Start Your Golf Swing Like This' 3 times and improved my ball striking out of sight ! I haven't nailed it fully but today was a major improvement than previous rounds . mate thank you sooooooo much ! legend
That’s awesome George well done
Great lesson. Sums up my problem perfectly. Thanks Danny 👍🏻
Happy to help! Andy 👍
So simple but so powerful!!! Thanks Danny!! Now time to practice at the simulator to master this Y. Great content!!
Glad you liked it! Have fun
Happy New Year and thanks Danny. I’m heading out to the range this afternoon and I’m going to work on this. Playing a round tomorrow morning
Awesome, look forward to hearing how you get on
Thanks! That was really great about how to execute the early take away and then think about and do the later stuff.
That’s really kind of you James
Thanks Danny went from a 101 to a 87 at Tidewater golf course. Your instructions on the swing and putting set me in a direction that put me back track. Just watching your videos in the 7 days between those scores. THANKS!
Well done 🙌
Possibly your best video on swing mechanics. I was doing this quite by accident and hitting the ball extremely well. However, I lost the technique and have been trying to find it again. Now I understand the technique. I am back to hitting with power and consistency. Thanks, Danny
Awesome to hear Mike well done
Thank you Danny Maude for an other great lesson. Happy New Year to you and your family and have a wonderful 2024
Happy new year Jesse, all the best
This was extremely helpful. And perfect timing for me, as I was just trying to figure out wrist movement during the takeaway. THANK YOU!
Thanks Ian 😁
This is the first video lesson, I took straight to the range and improved immensely. Great drill coach🫡
Amazing to hear
Thanks!
Best lesson on CZcams your such a great teacher. I would love to meet you in person and have a lesson I would benefit so much from it. Thanks for all the uploads Danny much appreciated. I’m from Rochester in Kent not sure where you teach and how to book a lesson
Thanks a million Danny once again these practice drills are good and it makes my game better.
Thanks Bobby glad they are working for you 👍
Hi Danny I watched this video a couple of months ago and can say it has made a significant improvement in my game. I’ve been playing golf for 35 years, had many lessons but this one tip, which I now follow religiously, has resulted in more continuous improvement than any lesson I’ve had. Thank you very much indeed.😀😀😀
Thank you Norman! Glad the tip is working for you 😁
thank you for the instruction...
Thank you John 😁
Hi Danny; I found something that really helps to begin the backswing before anything else happens. I make a small forward weight shift but not moving the club before I start taking the club back for momentum rather than taking it back from a static position. It makes my takeaway much smoother & prevents taking it back too quickly.
Danny, this video has been an absolute game changer for me. This has helped my entire swing! Thank you for always simplifying things.
Thank you Ken 😁
Brilliant video going out Sunday morning can't wait to try
Hope you enjoy Steven
Brilliant again, Danny.
Always struggled with consistency in takeaway and rolling formarms. Every time i tried drills to fix this, my swing became wooden.
I did this today and really helped ball flights, distance, and even pitch shots. Also, I found that keeping my fingers relaxed and making sure the takeaway was straight back and not inside eliminated bad strikes. 🙂
That’s amazing to hear Barry well done
Another great video and drills to take to the range on Sunday. Will video and put this into action see what transpires!
Love to hear how it goes John
Amazing tutorial!!!! Ty Danny def gonna try this with my irons
Have fun!
Another fantastic lesson thank you Danny
Super kind Matt thank you
I can't wait to try this. I'm sure I'm guilty of letting my "Y" break down, but never thought of it until now. Thanks Danny, and hope you're keeping above water in your part of the country.
You're so welcome! Hope it works out for you 👍
Super like this video Danny, many thanks 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you Kall!
Great tip Danny thanks again
Thanks Keith 👍
Cool. Something I can work on during the winter indoors. No hitting golf balls for a couple of months yet. Thanks Danny.
Good stuff Kim hope it works well for you 👍
More great advice Danny just got to put it into practice keep them coming please 😊
Thanks Bamber 😁
Like this lesson a lot especially the giant elastic band aid.
Once again a very interesting video and funnily enough it goes with a video about the "Y to Y" concept by Rick Smith, which I came across by chance last week. And today your great video on a similar topic with great exercises. You have sweetened my Saturday! I can hardly wait to try it out on the driving range. I must try to get a life coaching lesson from you one day. Your ability to explain golf is second to none and your drills are so simple and easy to adapt. A few weeks ago my brother-in-law told me he had stumbled across a great teaching Pro on CZcams (Hi Andreas btw in case you read this). I should definitely have a look at him, he would love to take a lesson with him. His name was Danny Maude (sorry for the initial misspelling). I gave him a big smile and said that I'd been following him for more than 2 years. And that watching your videos has been part of my Saturday ritual ever since. You've sweetened my Saturday again. Thanks as always.
That’s so lovely to hear Marc. Thanks so much for sharing
Wow, great drills. Can’t wait to practice.
Have fun
Just watching the shot fly off into the distance brilliant
Hey Dave, hope you had a great new year
Danny, you’re the man! I always enjoy the way you explain your drills so that we can take them to the driving range or the course.
Thank you!
Danny, I am a 15-16 handicap and had started to shank mt wedges. This single video has taken 5-6 strokes off of my game. Thanks to this information, I discovered that I was bending my trail elbow as you showed not to. Now I am putting all of my approach irons straight on the flag. Thank you so much for this video!
Love it. I struggle with this at the top of my backswing. I’m as flexible as a concrete paving slab. My trailing arm always bends more than I would like, to compensate for my poor flexibility but still allows me to keep my left leading arm straight.
These drills will definitively help.
Love to hear how you get on. Remember it’s ok to slow your left arm to bend a little
Pure GOLD! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Mike
I watched the video Sunday night and tried the swing on Monday. I was amazed as how well I was hitting the ball. Because the weather was cold when we started, 34 degrees, I had a heavy vest and was unable to make a big back swing. As long as I keep a tight Y going back and a tight Y going through the results were great.
Danny you make simple rules to follow thank you for that
Happy to help
Awesome teacher🙏
Thanks for the support
Well done Danny 👏 😊
Thanks Roy 👍
Okey Danny, Very explained to me. This happens a lot of people that you want do. I did same happen to rush and quick movements. Thank you very much. Brian
Thanks Brian 👍
Using the thera band and the balloon are great teaching tools, Danny! Well done! Hard to maintain that the circle when the radius changes. Basic geometry. Thanks for the video!
You are very welcome
Great video. Really thought about the Y and idea of bands making me push hands away (even if no actual bands) and rarely hit the driver so straight! Thanks Danny and keep up top videos!
Amazing to hear Robert
Your the best sent this to my golf buddies happy New Year 🇺🇸
Happy new year Rick
Another amazing and easy to understand lesson!!
Thanks again Phil, all the best
All makes sense 😅 thanks again.
All the best Philip
.. great video, thank you, well done 👍
You are very welcome
This is massive! Thank you very much 🫶🏻
Really happy to help
Awesome video! Great way to describe how to practice the backswing!
Thank you Jermtha 😁
Thanks Danny so well explained. Now I will take it to the range.
Let me know how you get on 😁
@@DanielMaude will do Danny. Many Thanks
Danny - I think this video coupled with the release/follow through video you did 2 weeks ago are game changers. The only issue I have is that when adding the extension drill I notice I move my head forward prior to impact. Not sure if other viewers or students have the same issue.
Danny Happy New Year wish you and your family the best. I am guilty of this along with dipping my shoulder on the down swing. Thank you for this video.
Ralph
Really happy to help Ralph
Brilliant video. I have work ahead of me to make that just muscle memory.
I like your videos with the extra graphics such as your "Y". It helps me visualize better.
Love the drills. How about a video on maintaining your balance in the swing.
Great suggestion Peter
Happy New Year Danny!
Another useful lesson. I think I'm getting it slightly wrong having watched your video. I'm going to record my swing from different angles to get an idea of what I am getting right and what I am getting wrong.
Once again I appreciate your video 🙏
Thanks Chris 😁
I have been having trouble with poor strikes with my iron play for a while now, hooks and shanks. Funnily enough i was working on my take away last week, doing exactly as your excellent lesson and it helped big time. It gives me reassurance that i was on the right track. Thanks Danny.
Well done Richard 😁
Good stuff Danny. Took this to the course today and am 10 shots better on my previous round 2 days ago!
Nice work Donald
Those are some fantastic golf tips - you are saving me lots of money here in Texas since you are my free golf teacher - thanks!!
Thank you James! Appreciate the support 😁
Another great lesson and thank you. I've struggled in recent years with my takeaway, not rotating the body enough and compensating by bending my lead arm. This, naturally leads to inconsistent ball striking and the occasional wayward shot (and frustration). I blew out from 6 to 10, am back to 8 and am hoping to get below 5 before I leave this earth!
At 56 it's time to focus on flexibility to I can properly maintain the "Y" with full rotation and in conjunction, I will be doing these drills and look forward to the results!
Big thanks and cheers from sunny Sydney - Dave
Happy to help Dave 😁
Hello Danny, thank you for your exercise with the little balloons. I tried it in our Toptracer box today. Although without the balloon but with the imagination and concentration it was between my hands. This works great 👍. Straight, very few mistakes and also longer shots. Gap wedge 105 - 115 yards 😊.
That’s great well done
You are amazing DM!
Thanks for the feedback Michael
Another super helpful video! There is another part of the takeaway that I am still (sometimes) struggling with, and I was wondering if you could do a video on it if you get the time? This video helps a ton with what your arms are supposed to do, but I sometimes find myself putting the club (and arms) in the wrong position on the plane on the swing. e.g. I know that the club is supposed to end in the backswing, roughly on an opposite angle to where it starts from, but I sometimes find I am out of position in the backswing, which causes either a hook or a slice (depending if I come in too much in to out or out to in). I am looking for a drill to always ensure that the club moves backward on the correct plane. I try to do this by visualizing a line in the arc, but it's not consistent. Thanks for all you do!
Thankiuu!
You are very welcome
Thanks Danny,
As a reasonable golfer who is struggling to reach the next level of consistency, these drills really resonate with me. A great set of exercises for ‘wristy’ types like myself
No problem Josh 😁
I wish I seen this video before I went to the range today. Can’t wait to try it out again next time 🙏🏽
Have fun! 🤩
Hi Danny just watched this video. This body shape is a real eye opener it is the basic but crucial position that players of my level don't maintain throughout the swing, it tends to break down after the takeaway. Once the body stops turning due to lack of flexibility we continue on, manipulating the rest of the swing with our arms. Destroying any chance of a repetitive result. Your tip using the tail of the Y is fantastic. This should give us the cue when your body has run out of rotation the wrists come into play and it's time to end the backswing. Giving us the correct length of backswing in relation to our flexibility.
Thank you for giving us your insights and help they really are so welcome.
Happy new year and wish you all the best for 2024
One thing that confused me. I replayed the video on slow mode and your trail elbow was bent when viewed from behind. at the top of your swing.
Yes the trail elbow 💯 bends, it naturally does. The aim with this exercise is to reduce the amount it collapses
Danny, fantastic video, as always, thanks. I do have an off-topic question on the movement of your head as you begin your downswing, at about 10:49-10:51. It appears to me that you turn your head to look at a point about a foot beyond the ball. Is that a deliberate movement and if so, could you explain it? Thanks again.
