Yank here; moved to Belgium October 2000 and then about 11 months later was with my mother, my wife, and 5 yo daughter was in London 09/12/2001 wandering around behind Buckingham palace in a state of mild shock when suddenly the Queen told one of the guards to invite my daughter in to walk through her garden. we could hardly believe it; then, about an hour later were in front of the palace as the royal Band played America's national anthem. we were then all in tears; especially my mom because when my daughter's age in 1943 had just discovered her father had been shot down in S Germany on a bombing run and pow'd. she had no idea he was definitely alive to be later liberated and return home safe and sound. So in 2001 that public expression of "State solidarity was very powerful and moving, setting very deep in our hearts a love for the Queen and the U.K. as well. Friends, the Queen is not dead, she has finally gone to her eternal home never to bothered with the brokenness of this world again. Jesus said- “I am the resurrection and the life.* Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.( John 11:25 NLT) May God be with and comfort all who mourn her departure, she was a lovely Lady.

He had Nazi sympathies, when he was the Duke of Windsor, he and Wallis were meeting with Hitler and then he tried to be installed back in as the puppet king. He would have cowed to the Nazis and the monarchy would have fallen then.

So much to love about the series, but probably my favorite is the use of the English language. Lines given to Pip Torrens as Tommy Lascelles were especially scathing! Always love Pip Torrens, though.

"- And if one day you expect to be King...
    - I do.
    - Then might I suggest you start behaving like one!"
I guess he didn't start behaving like one and that's why she's going to outlive him - no way she about let him tarnish her life's work.

At the time of writing this 103 people have displayed their ignorance. It is natural for a king to marry for an heir but to have a mistress for love, often a mistress who is another's wife. Those kings that have failed in this regard tend to be the ones who have failed most spectacularly in their royal duties such as Charles 1, Louis XIV and Nicholas II. The line should be considered ironic, and perhaps stems from her education as much as her fathers determination to portray the Family as one.

She has incredible eyes. Great eyes, not only just beautiful, but eyes that can speak full, passionate, and heart-wrenching words with just a look. That's my favorite thing about Claire.

I was whining to myself about all the problems I had encountered in the past few months. I must say that the Queen's last chastening straightened me up quite a bit. Quite a performance.
