      Ummmm….read Prince Harry’s autobiography “Spare.” According to him it did not go down like this at all. Prince Harry said that his father didn’t even hug him after he told him about Princess Diana’s death. Prince Charles just patted Harry on the knee and walked out the room. And they barely spoke about it again.

    I believe that Charles became closer to Diana after the divorce. Obviously not as before, but I believe that humanity prevailed in their relationship for their children. Diana, even informally, has always been part of the royal family.
    Charles' cry, in my opinion, was a cry for the loss of his friend, not his ex-wife. Moreover, he wept for his children and for what Diana represented to that family.
    Charles may have been wrong, and he may have been wrong a lot. Of course, he's human like the rest of us. And because he's human, I believe that the peace between him and Diana was real.

      That's what people didn't get. William once also said that his parents were happier apart. It was a miserable marriage. Charles did left Camilla and tried to love Diana. But you can't force love. After the divorce, Diana were free to do what she wanted and free to date anyone after the divorce. Charles was finally able to be with the person he always loved. Diana could always see, talk and take her kids anytime she wanted too. She kept her title and she was provided for. She was dating someone at the time of her death as well. If the death is reversed, Diana would probably cry over the death of her children's father and someone she was married. Despite being a miserable marriage, they must've had some happy moments.

      I agree! I honestly think that Diana and Charles were victims of the royal family's traditionalism. They tried, but it didn't work out, and that's fine! Diana wasn't a perfect person either, just like the current king, but I think they found a balance in the divorce. They had William and Harry. So, one way or another, the marriage was successful @@a.l8061

      @DarlingNikki2 Před 5 měsíci

      @@a.l8061 If only Charles hadn't nagged at Queen Elizabeth about Diana keeping her HRH status, she may still be with us today. From what I've read (and these are what have been described as reliable royal sources not gossip rag mags), the Queen was fine with Diana keeping the HRH as well as the title Princess of Wales as part of the divorce settlement but Charles bitched about it so much that she threw up her hands and basically gave in. Once Diana lost the HRH status, she lost her Scotland Yard protection officers and there can be no doubt that they would have not allowed her to ride in that car with Henri Paul driving. Maybe she would have argued against it, but I think she would have yielded because she always felt safest with those detectives. Perhaps Charles broke down because he thought about that fact, that taking the HRH from her was absolutely unnecessary and even worse, petty. She was the mother of the future King of England barring a constitutional change or revolution ousting the House of Windsor. She deserved to continue being known as HRH Diana, Princess of Wales even after divorcing Charles. I pray now that when the time comes, William will keep his promise and return her HRH status to her when he becomes king--it is what she deserves, even in death.

    After their divorce, Charles and Diana were friends, probably closer than they had been before their marriage. There were reports of them visiting and talking on the phone with each other. Diana even told friends she had accepted Camilla. Charles continued to wear his wedding ring for a long time after her death. We don't really know what happened or who said what but I believe Charles was heartbroken. He loved Diana, probably regret for their marriage, trying to figure out how to tell his sons, wondering how would this hit the country, how it would impact the monarchy and how it would impact his relationship with Camilla. I believe he cried for her, and for his sons. I am divorced. The divorce was made quite ugly by his behavior, insistence that I was "unfit" and finally, his refusal to pay back any of the large cash sums I had loaned him during our marriage, any alimony legally due me & his attempt to flee the state with our son without my knowledge. And yet, if he were to suddenly die in such a terrible way.. I know I would cry for him. Our son loves him and despite how poor of a husband he was to me, he has always adored our son and considered him his pride and joy. His death would devastate my child and no matter what has happened between us I do not want him to die. People may say and feel a lot of things during an acrimonious divorce but most of the time, the fact is that you slept next to this person, shared a bathroom with this person, made children with this person, have seen them when they are sick and comforted them when they were sad. There was a time when their happiness made you happy. Even when it all goes to pot, all of that physical closeness does result in the vestige of a connection you can never really break. And should they die suddenly, horribly - you finally realize that.

      for the last two seasons, charles has been portrayed differently. he was married to diana for several episodes at the beginning of the fifth one. he was considerably nicer, more reasonable, wasn’t trying to make her seem crazy or unhinged (because, let’s face it, the script did that pretty well by itself), he was a different person. there is a rift between seasons 4 and 5 in terms of how charles and even diana are portrayed. the fact that he cried like that plays well with the public, it’s a clear argument:”oh look, he is all heart and, just like the rest of us, grieving for our magnificent, lost princess!” sadness and tears are understandable, sobbing for an estranged wife with whom you always had a chilly, at times adverse relationship, so loudly that people hear you from across the hall is quite farfetched. @@MsJubjubbird

    If they didn’t have anything to do with the death can you imagine the guilt and anguish they were facing , they probably were praying harder than anyone for her , cause they knew if something happened to her they would get the blame. Especially after the letters from Diana were revealed and she mentioned being scared for her life . I’ve always debated whether the royal family had anything to do with her death because why would they risk their image it meant so much to them , but yet again why wouldn’t they. She was not like anyone in the royal family she broke the mold and refused to be silent , we will never know what truly happened that night.

      They aren't portraying him as a good man, they are just portraying him based on reality. Charles wasn't a good husband for Diana, but I doubt he was a terrible person in general. As this series showed, Diana broke up several marriages and relationships by having affairs with men despite knowing they had a relationship with someone else.

      Just because he couldn't love his wife doesn't make him a bad man. He has loved only one woman in his life and that his Camilla. True love is very strong. You can't just switch it off. He had to marry someone else because of his family and by the time Camilla also had to marry someone else. I'm sure both of them tried to work it out in their respective marriages but they were hopeless. Love is something that people have no control over. Plus Diana had really mental issues due to her unhappy childhood. She was too young and emotional. Their age difference was a huge factor too. You just can't blame one person for a failed marriage.
