Why golfers NEVER hit driver as far as they should...

- Golfers should hit driver much farther than they are doing. Here's 3 things I want you to do to sneak a few extra laser straight yards out of your driver swing.
Science has proven that to hit driver longer the golf ball needs to fly higher with less back spin. To do this the driver head needs to be striking the golf ball on the way up. Now many golfers are aware of this but for some reason they still aren't able to do it consistently. In this golf lesson Danny Maude reveals why and gives you 3 simple things to do to finally start hitting some of the drives of your life đ

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can beâŠto say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On CZcams and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I donât know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isnât as flexible as it once was or youâve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are Iâve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw upâŠa lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
Iâve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the gameâŠLETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing
Hope you enjoy - Sport
Hereâs this weeks Practice Plan: www.dannymaude.com/practice-plans-detail?productId=heres-why-golfers-dont-hit-driver-as-far-as-they-should&widget=hidden
I have been watching your videos for several years and think you are great! You say your practice plans are FREE, but I can't seem to acçess them even though I have an account. Your websitÚ keeps taking me back to the Become a Member link even though I am alreadÿ logged-in. What's up Danny?
Farther not further
Danny, the videos you have on line are just the best. Your teaching approach makes it very easy to understand the "how" and the "why" of improving our golf swings. Thanks for keeping is simple!
You are by far the best golf coach on UTube. Relaxed voice and easy with your explanations. Plus great tips and drills. Thank you
Hi Danny, a huge thankyou for your heel/toe drill, I used to hit left or right a lot and that drill has really helped straighten me out. Lovely to see videos with your Dad. Thanks again, Charlie
This helped me get rhythm, as well as maintain it. Thank you! Can't wait to try it out again next week.
Learned how to hit the driver straight from you sir. 68 years old with bad back and only hit around 175 180 off the tee. Driver now my favorite. Will try this lesson but donât want to loose my accuracy youâve taught me. Would love hitting 220 or 230. Thanks for all these lessonsâŠlots of us watch but canât transfer from video to our games.
Iâve had many lessons along my golf journey an find theses videos helpful. But I think DM is the best teacher-communicators of all the online golf instructors by far!
Really kind of you to say, so glad the lessons are helping

Loves this video. I really enjoyed and also see exactly what you were explaining in what you saw in my swing from the driver swing video upload you let us do. I see how those drills will help get my swing back on track and start greater improvement. Thank you again for all you do with your videos and look forward to more.
Absolutely Robert đ€đ»đ€đŒ
Enjoyed this one Danny just back off holiday so first game tomorrow for a few weeks. Will give this a crack. Thanks as always. Have a great weekend
Hey, I've just started playing golf. I found you channel and I am going thru most of the drills and having a baseball background has made it difficult to adjust but with what I am watching and implementing has me going in the right direction I enjoy your channel! Thank you so much
hi i agree very helpfull..also check out coach Shayan...she is brilliant with the beginner basics....
Danny Maude this video makes so much sense. I apologize in advance for this being a long comment, but I need to give context. I took 6 years off and started playing again just over a year ago. Started taking lessons about 4 months (Nov 21) after I started playing again. Hitting irons was great, compressing the ball, etc. For driver, my instructor wasn't as detailed, and couldn't communicate "feels" to me. I found your video about hitting the driver. It started with a one arm (right arm) swing, then left arm, then both. Possibly the BEST Driver Swing Tip EVER!, from January 8, 2021. After watching that video at least 10 times, I worked on the drills at my local range for two nights in a row, each was a 2-3 hour session. I got it down, and have the video from those sessions to this day. Fast forward to this spring. I'm a pretty tall (6'4"), athletic (college basketball, track, triathlete), flexible guy, but could not get my club head speed with driver over 108 while playing (110 once in a while while practicing). I carry the ball 270 - 280 (a first world problem, I know), but based on the distances I hit every other club in the bag, I just feel like I'm only performing at 70%, and I feel "restricted" (no flow). Another thing is my sequencing isn't great, and I don't get posted up on my left leg every time, or really accelerate through the ball. All sorts of advice from the coach, and friends... nothing. THIS makes sense, and the fact you break it up into pieces makes it very easy to follow. I watched this about 4 times through just now, and followed along with my driver in my living room. Just the feeling of the first drill, pushing the right shoulder down and forward... feels very natural, and I know it's the proper way for my body to react through the swing (staying behind the ball, etc). I'm getting over knee surgery (torn meniscus, right knee), but will be golfing again in about 4 weeks. I am VERY confident this will increase my club head speed, distance, as well as accuracy, and consistency in a very big way. I will report back in 4 - 5 weeks with the results. Danny, thank you for the great instruction, the "why" behind the concept, and breaking it down into easy to follow steps. Brilliant!
outstanding video. One thing I think you should also discuss is loft of drivers and also shaft. I recently was given a New Driver with a stiff shaft and could only hit it around 150 yards. I realized the shaft was too stiff and changed to a regular shaft and now it it 75 to 100 yards farther. I am a 63 year old man who shoots in the high 70"s. Also I was able to adjust the loft to 10.5 and it made a difference. One thing that also needs to be discussed is expectations of how far as we age we can hit the ball. When I really hit it well it can go 260 but that is it as I have some physical problems. The most important thing on the drive is to put the ball in position for your next shop with a club you feel best hitting. I try to get the ball to within 150 of the green where I can hit a low iron. I prefer to hit a full club versus a half wedge. You have made a tremendous difference in my game especially with the video where you discuss the arms and body in swinging the driver. This saved my game. Thanks.
Just found your channel. Worked on these thoughts and increased my attack angle with driver from -2 to -3 range in the .5 to 1.5 positive. Something Iâve been working on for a while and itâs coming around. Thanks for the help.
Amazing well done Barry
Getting older meant my golf getting progressively worse until I started looking at Danny's videos. I'm now back on the way up. Great videos - well explained and they achieve quick results. Thanks Danny.
check out Moe Norman..only got better with age..hope it helps
AJ I agree with you. I went from driving the ball 290 yards in my 40s to 230 yards in my mid 60s. I've been watching Danny's videos and I'm hitting 270 at 69 years old. I'll take that any day!
Another great lesson. I will be re-watching your videos as I recover from hernia repair starting 9/16.
Looks good Danny! Thanks for another great video. I can't wait to try it out on the range.

Danny, I have struggled with the driver for too long. As soon as I watched this video I knew that I was going to start hitting it better. After doing the practice drills at home, I hit the range and hit the driver high and straight down the middle 7 out of 10 in a row! Thank you so very much.
Amazing to hear well done

Hi Danny
U have any videos on what are the ideal distance between our standing position and the ball with different irons and drivers

Iâm a new golfer and set up a simulation in my garage. Last night I discovered the body and arm rotations were two separate mechanics. I had set myself to work on the body rotations before the arms. This morning I found your video and it gave me a few additional tips when my body is recouperating and confirmed my own theories!

Danny, Great to chat with you on the putting green today. I can reveal - world exclusive - that there is a top top putting lesson coming to us lucky, lucky subscribers on here soon. I had a preview and it is terrific. And I had been on the range with this lesson too. I had a good golfing afternoon. đ
Good info ... I prefer hitting my drive to my target (thought) as opposed to hit it straight. That way I can work it left or right or straight.
Thanks Georgia !

4:34 I love how the guy in the background totally ignores Crazy Danny out there with his towel. đ I am book-marking this video for the winter. Traded in my driver this season for a new wedge & want to pick up the battle again AFTER the 2 day tournament in early October that marks the end of my '22 campaign. The 3W gets me 230-250, but the siren song of another 40 or 50 yards with the driver keeps calling!
Always great fun to rip a great Drive Brian đ
Thank you as always Danny, funny how the words we use really matter, feel the destination! vs swing, gather vs hit. flow vs rhythm! snap vs hit, thanks mate!

Hi Terry, is this the Terry Cork??
WoW, great, i never seen such a good video before, but now , how do we manage the fairway woods, the hybrid and the irons, could you do the same type of videos. Thank you for your precious help.
Such a timely video for me. I just sent you an email the other night outlining the progression of my golf game and which of your videos helped with that progression. At the end of my email I asked for help with this exact issue. Iâm sure you havenât seen that email yet. But, thanks anyway. Keep up the good work.
I get all the motion, but tend to mis-time my rotation, occasionally, and the club bottoms out before impact. It's such a fine line on the timing. I work on this move all the time...
Well done Danny excellent work đ đ
Thank you, really appreciate it
Good afternoon Danny, I generally hit a fade but since changing the driver hosel to draw I have gained 20-30 meters. Thanks for your videos, my golf swing feels a lot different and effortless.
Thatâs amazing, well done

Enjoy these videos as a new golfer
Thank you Austin đ
Another great video Danny, very clear and easy to understand, can't wait to get down to the range and give it a go!
I don't ever really write here, but I tried just the initial part of this video yesterday--club up, weight forward, extend arms out and away--and I had to comment. Instant results with the driver. More accuracy, good power, and easy to do (so far). Off to the range, but was surprised at how it helped correct my wayward drives (hooks and blocks) immediately. Thanks!
Thanks Ben appreciate you taking the time to comment đđ glad the video helped you!
Grip, posture and stance are the keys for me for all shots. To accomplish your goal in this video I pushed my left hip up and over my left foot and ensure proper alignment. Then it is easy to establish momentum and my designation is to get back to my feels at setup. Always appreciate your instructions. Thx. Tom
Thatâs great Tom, thanks for sharing

I hit my driver (G425 max) 250-300 consistently, longest is 357 (18 HCP). Problem is its often OB or on the A421 in Milton Keynes. What's your best video for accuracy off the tee? Love your videos, I truly think the best YT coaching videos.
This plus lesson plus a bucket of balls and a driving range equals me this weekend.
Love to hear how you get on
Great video as usual. Discovered your videos recently and love the drills. In past two weeks has made a dramatic difference and folks at the club are noticing. Keep watching videos over and over with practicing as well. Thanks again!
Thatâs brilliant to hear Taz thanks for sharing
Really like that video and simple steps to follow. Promotes swinging through the ball with a good rhythm rather than trying to 'hit' or smash the ball. Will be working on these swing feelings, thanks Danny
Awesome as ever Danny
61 and never swung a club until last week. Going to use Danny's videos and see how I go. I shared a 55 minute range with my daughter lat ween and this week. About 5 air shots and 15 bad misses where the ball went left, right or 1 meter.
Another great reminder of yours. A good, efficient and powerful golf swing is not a result of brute force. It is the application of good momentum.
Absolutely Claude
I played today in the rain here in Melbourne. My biggest problem is post impact follow through. So I will give this a try before my next round.
Love to hear how it goes Michael
@@DanielMaude Also one of the players in my group also noticed that my feet were too far apart, which was affecting my body rotation. I moved the feet closer which helped with accuracy. I have a lesson on Thursday with the club pro so, I will ask him about the towel drill as well. Thanks Danny.
Exellent, brilliant, extraordinary!!! I am new to golf, 9 months. I tried this drill this morning and gained from 210 yards carry driver to 240 avg.

Great video again, just what I needed. Do we do these practice drills for 5 wood, other woods and irons too? In one of your earlier videos you showed the back swing, right wrist at 45 degrees etc. I have been using that and first time I am getting consistent strike on my driver and irons. Yesterday I scored 41 points. Thank you very much Danny, your regular fan.
Thatâs amazing well done
Hi Danny, great video and instructions. I do all this at the range but when faced with the real shot, it all seems to go back to the old ways. Any tips on how to create a process for the actual shot so that your good tips and instructions are applied?
Mechanically a golf swing is similar to a Trebuchet in which a rock in a sling is whipped around a catapult-like lever arm. In the golf swing the lead arm which good ball strikers pin and the release off the chest is the primary lever and the club shaft the secondary one which accelerates the club head mass around the hands like the rock in the sling of the Trebuchet.
Pinning the lead arm across the rib cage acts a fulcrum for the lead arm, increasing its mechanical efficiency and causing it to literally spring off the chest if the golfer uses a strong lead hand grip and wide sweeping takeaway which allows the momentum acting on the club head mass to pull the arm and club straight back. That action will pull the unprepared golfer off balance, which is why beginners instead will swing the club back inside by pronating the lead hand which results in the lead elbow bending.
The cause and effect which triggers the release of the lead arm mass and the whipping of the club around the hands is an abrupt slowing of the hip rotation as they reach 45° open, something referred to as âhitting the wallâ. But it occurs only if the golfer keeps their back foot grounded, which biomechanically limits hip rotation. The effect on the pinned lead arm and club head mass is similar to what happens to an unbelted occupant in a car crash. Hips and shoulders stop with hips 45° open and shoulders back to parallel which causes the considerable mass of the lead arm flies off the chest which pulls the hand forward much, much faster than the hip and shoulder turn had been accelerating them. At the same time the slowing of the hips triggers the club head lagging in the hands to whip around them.
Those two action, lead arm and club head releasing and accelerating is what generates most of the F = 1/2 (Mass x Velocity^2) striking force in the club head mass but poor ball strikers never experience them because they lift and turn the back foot too soon, before the hips encounter the resistance of the front leg. Their hips and shoulders continue to rotate on the same plane around the feet. The front arm releases but it also whips around the feet pulling the club head in the same direction causing the face to open and the golfer to reflexively try to steer it back straight to the target which results in a slice if they manage to do that before impact or a pull or pull hook if they canât react and steer the face back to target.
Once I realized it was âHitting the Wallâ which triggers the release of the lead arm mass which drags the club head mass spinning down around the hands I realized the angle of the lead arm mass when it flies off is what influences the force vector of the arm and the club head mass. During the downswing the force vector of the club head is tangential to the rotation of the club head around the hands and also tangential to the rotation around the hands when that occurs. The more vertical the golfer can get the lead arm as it flies off the more that action will change the force vector of the club head from tangential around feet and hands to being straight towards the target. How is the lead arm made more vertical? Side bending of the spine as the shoulders turn parallel and allow the mass of the lead arm to fly off.
Try tossing golf balls down in front of you side arm keeping the back foot grounded and you will reflexively load the back foot as you wind up and reflexively side bend which causes the your right arm to extend straight at your target before releasing the ball. You should feed the momentum of your armâs mass force you to lift the back foot and allow the hips to turn in order to stay in balance. A mechanically efficient âTrebuchetâ golf swing has the same cause and effect but with lead arm mass also flying off the chest and pulling the hands and club toward the target before impact and the trail arm straight at the target after impact, the action seen in good ball strikers.
It might appear that the trail arm is pushing the lead arm toward the target but it is actually the reverse-the momentum of the lead arm mass flying off the chest pulls the trail arm straight towards the target when the golfer sidebends the spine to tilt the shoulders and get lead arm more vertical before it flies off. The cause and effect becomes obvious when you analyze how the force vector of the club head changes from tangential to the axis of rotation around feet and hands to straight down the target line. It occurs when the golfer released the mass of the lead arm in the direction of the target which then pulls the mass of the trail arm and the hand pulling the lagging club head mass in the same direction.
