    • @anstorner
      @anstorner Před 7 měsíci

      @@Lucifronz I just recently played and got to NG+2 Drauglec castle (i wanted to kms so many times trying to get the last spells for the platinum trophy just so i didn't had to play DS2 never again), so i can express my current feelings about this because it changed massively about how i saw this game before and now.
      For me the worst area is Shrine of Amana and second Iron Keep, then Frigid Outskirts, Iron Passage then Cave of the Dead.
      The why is because these two first areas are 100% required to go through and are CBT both, and in NG+1 and beyond Red Phantoms start to appear everywhere, it made me feel so bad i had to avoid playing any souls until like next month because it truly felt miserable going through those areas 3 times in an row.
      Eleum Loyce is terrible to go through after getting rid of the storm because every place now is an gankfest with no purpose aside of making exploring feel horrible which in Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, Bloodborne rewarded you, here (and all of DS2 areas) punish you with more ganks and invasions, at least the Ivory King is an good boss, but needing to explore the entire place just to fight him is annoying.
      Frigid Outskirts is [-h-------------e----------------l----------p-] , Iron Passage the same and both have reskin bosses and one is an gank, so i am not denying that and Iron Passage has mages making you fatroll, nothing more needs to be said.
      Shulva Sanctum City has very annoying enemies with their shields and spears with cheap placements to kill you easily, but at least theres not that many that i can tile my roof with them like i would Alonne knights and ice spear golems, and it dosen't look that great, Both bosses aside the ganksquad are fine, but can be extremely annoying either by the weapon you have, or RNG with how many times the dragon jumps, or if she immediately summons Veldstadt .
      Cave of the Dead is Black Gulch 2.0, At least Black Gulch did not have enemies to attack you while being stunned by being poisoned and the boss is easy and has an bonfire infront of it , here it's an oneshot and the enemies are extremely annoying and you can be hit alot in the fogwall, and the boss is THE ganksquad, so thats terrible too.
      Brume Tower aside of the Brides of Ash and the dumb invasions, it's actually the best of the bunch because the enemies are managable if you want to fight them, and if you dont want you can go past them in several parts, although doors u do need to kill them unless you want it to be Iron Keep 2.0, the game does provide several ways to fight them compared to other places, Both bosses Fume Knight and Alonne the sole reason why i play the entire game in the first place, although having to do the entire game to reach both of them is extremely tiresome.
      So i would say you are correct in most stuff aside of Brume tower which that one felt the most fair to me (Iron passage kms kms kms kms), but everything else if it burns i wouldn't care the least

      Just like Demon's souls and Dark Souls there is a crestfallen warrior in Majula. He and the Emerald herald always tell you what to do next. As far along in DS2 as when you meet Frampt in DS1, you encounter Nashandra and she also tells you a lot (it is mostly lies, but you can easily claim that Frampt lies too). But, just as in Dark Souls 1 the exact motivation is very vague. To "ring two bells" is exactly as vague as "Kill the king" and "Find four great souls". The reason why becomes clear much later in both games.

    I agree on the most criticisms on this game but the take on ds2 fighting multiple mobs at once is the part where I somewhat disagree. This feature is intentional not to make the game hard but to change the repeated playstyle used in the previous game (basically circle strafing and lock-on habbit). This game focuses on how you will do crowd control while not relying on lock-on.

    The combat may not be its strong suit with the hitboxes and the mob density, but what i like about the game a lot is the story and the atmosphere, especially in Majula. The world feels like it's closer to an age of dark than the other 2 games, and you can see it everywhere. where there were literal towns in ds1 and 3, there are only ruins left in 2, and all people you encounter are visibly going hollow. The blacksmith lenigrast is a green hollow because he couldn't follow his purpose as a blacksmith and despaired, and all others have already forgotten how or why they came to drangleic. some like maughlin the armorer and Lucatiel lose themselves as their quests progress. The king is a soulless husk. The fire keepers are retired cause even they lost hope and the emerald herald took over to guide the player instead, for selfish reasons. Drangleic castle only has a handful of knights remaining, with all other inhabitants being either dead or lifeless golems. Since Nashandra took over, the entire castle is wrapped in perpetual dark, fitting for a child of Manus. There are a lot more spells, even including an entirely new subclass of dark spells called hexes with their own scaling, since people like Felkin the outcast and darkdiver Grandahl who have a deeper connection to the dark have appeared. The power of the old lords has dwindled to a point where the bosses carrying them barely show them. The Lost sinner has an izalith parasite controlling her, the rotten is nito if he had flesh, just without any necromancy, seaths soul is with a giant mutant spider next to a petrified ancient dragon, and gwyns soul is with a king that burned in the lava of a volcano instead of the first flame. In ds1 and 3 i never link the fire except for achievements because it is against the natural flow of the world and because i hate gwyn with a burning passion for what he did to humanity, so having scholar of the first sin give you a new ending that has you break out of the cycle and free yourself from the curse of hollowing is a huge plus in my book. The bosses might not be particularly challenging, but neither were those in demon's souls. the two games have a lot of design similarities, like the difficulty focusing on areas rather than bosses, the movesets of weapons and parries or the hollowing being a less extreme soul form. what i especially like about ds2's weaponry is that you can buff weapons that have elements on them with spells regardless of the infusion, and that leveling weapons is comparatively cheap since it costs only a few titanite shards.

  • @OMIMox
    @OMIMox Před 6 měsíci +7

    My favorite part about the discourse around this game is that when the game was released in 2014 *almost no one complained about it.* I played DeS and DS1 right before DS2 came out, played it on launch and put 1200 hours in it, and it was universally loved. It made game of the year by GameInformer, extremely high review scores all across the board, everybody was loving it and talking about it, and it had an extremely small amount of the player base actually complaining about it. It was to the point where content creators complaining about the game were lambasted for just hating what was new and fresh, and basically every DS1 content creator other than the few dickheads switched over to DS2 content. Tons of PVP, build videos, walkthroughs, and so on. It took literally about a year for anybody to go back to Dark Souls 1 content, and that was after all three DLCs had released.
    In comparison, when DS3 came out nearly every content creator lambasted the game for its poor balance mixed with the same terrible net code that killed BB PvP and a severe lack of content (it didn't have an arena until the first DLC). Almost all OG Souls creators, and most smaller ones, ditched the game within the first month. Oroboro, Peeve, Yukasleigon, everyone just left.
    It took until after the DLC's for anyone to come back, and It was still very little content. The people who cropped up after the 1st dlc bought an arena slowly made a name for themselves as the balance patches and second DLC came out. LostMySanity, FighterPL, Revan318, Prod, G9, and Steelovsky all made a name for themselves *after* the absolute shitfest that was DS3's first year of a release. If it wasn't for those balance patches and the addition of the arena, there's a good chance that from a community standpoint the franchise would have just died. Nobody gave a shit because the game was rushed as hell, entire mechanics were just missing or broken, and balance wasn't even something they considered.
    The "DS2 is bad" complaints didn't even start until around the last 5 years when DS1 got it's remake. The problem is that DS2 punishes bad play more so than any game FROM has made other than Sekiro, and is notoriously hard to just run through. You actually have to try, and around the time the game came out that's what everybody wanted from the next FROM game. Like seriously, go look for videos pre-2018 criticizing DS2 for the things that you hear people complain about now like enemy density and "it's clunky and slow". You simply aren't going to find them because DS1&DeS were both just as slow if not slower with certain play styles and were actually more clunky the majority of the time. The things people are actually going to complain about in criticisms from back then are adaptability and soul memory, which are definitely massive issues and if they remake the game I think they should just remove the adaptability stat altogether.

    DS2 had three major flaws:
    1: Estus chugging speed and rolling s are tied to the adaptability stat, in order to make it worth putting points in there they had to make the base values for those slower/fewer than previous titles, thus it feels awful to play at low levels and OP at high levels.
    2: Lot of places to go but not much in them.
    3: The teaser videos showed what looked like HDR lighting (see the knight with torch teasers), the released version had this taken out, so everything looked washed out, almost full bright and it showed off all the ugly textures.

They never/barely played it and they’re mad they suck or are jumping on the bandwagon. Or 2. Dual wield powerstance.
      Teleport from the beginning of the game.
      Multidirectional roll.
      Agility stat increase and estus drink time.
      Red summoning signs and birth of fight clubs.
      Added cape physics.
      Coolest armor in all dark souls. (Faraam, Alva, Heide Knight)
      Torches to fucking see where you going.
      DS 2 was an experiment and aslo and improvement mechanically. It only missing good game design (Miyazaki)

    Many of the criticism about DS2 are facts, specially with level design, but with exception of reused bosses, asmon is sounding like a whiny noob to me, and if he things the two knights in the "small room" is too unbalanced, so that's disappointing, the boss is manageable pretty simple to beat. multiple enemies gank? oh don't be a weakling, long 2h sword with wide horizontal swing is just one of the ways to deal with this, waiting for the right moment to attack as it has always been in souls games. I started in DS2, then played some years later the DS1 game, though the same as people who played 1 and then 2, most DS1 bosses are easy when you already know how to play the game, some are even disappointing, although the designs in DS1 are much more interesting in general, that's the effect players had with DS2, they played it already knowing how Dark Souls combat works, it makes it a lot easier.
