I love the style you did for this one, it's really energetic. It's nice hearing you reminisce about past failed projects and candidly talk about your plan to overcome it this time. If you want some quick feedback, it would be nice to see a little more of the painting section even if it's just simple models :)

Perhaps a series of shorts of "here's what my league is, and here's what I've painted up for it". That way Scott doesn't feel as chained to doing it in his main videos, and can play around with as much or as little effort in that medium as he wants

This video is great. The editing style, pacing, the sets, the humor. Its a huge step up. I love how much of the office gets seen and used! Its a snappy fun video that has an almost "Bill Nye" feel to it in places. Love it man, keep it up.

I've been enjoying seeing your CZcams mojo come back Scott. There was a time a while ago where you seemed super burned out with the whole content creator thing. Understandable, even our favourite jobs can wear us down. Seeing you upbeat and positive in recent vids is great to see!
I think that being an amazing painter such as yourself lends more to display models which are always good videos to watch but my guess is that the vast majority of viewers are general army painters and that viewer market loves watching armies get painted because it gives us the shot of dopamine from seeing a finished army without having to finish ours which I think is why midwinter does so well. All that to say I'm a fan of army painting progress videos over single stellar display videos.
Love all the usage you're giving to the studio! All the takes and spaces look amazing, really refreshing altogether
This video was really really well done ! The editing was very dynamic, you use your new studio very well, filming you in all kind of places, showing us every bits of your new office, I really like that ! The video flows very nicely, the writing was on point with the message you wanted to convey.
I see a lot of progress on your editing and videomaking skills, it is very cool and very pleasing to watch videos like this one. I have the feeling that you're trying new ways to shoot your videos and I can't wait to watch the next one !

I’d personally LOVE to see more of your personal hobby time. Nothing wrong with getting back to your roots! I would absolutely love to watch you finish your SBG army… and then make a Mordheim warband out of it.
Really interested in learning more about Northern Conquerors! Also, I can totally relate to you on the issues when painting an army. I just finished painting my first Warcry warband, and even though it took me around 2hs per mini (which is super fast for my usual 6-10hs per mini), it was pretty exhausting and I had to take a break and paint some other minis halfway through the project.
Also, great job on the video overall. The style is super cool and it's really well edited!

I do exactly the same. I put all my effort into one ork boy. I've recently tried doing more batch painting using contrast paints for the bulk then switching to conventional paints for the details. I find it really difficult not burning out

Dude, this whole campaign idea is great! Start off small to build a reasonable force without having to be overwhelmed right from the get-go
Got the same thing going on for 40k using crusade it’s fun letting the narrative story influence your models, like my guard company commander failed overcharging his plasma pistol so now he has a bionic arm stuff like that.

Escalation Leagues are an amazing thing and it is so much fun to build and paint up an army with your friends and see everyone grow and even theme themselves together.
It...rarely seems to work, at least for me. I've tried a few, had some minor success, but rarely does everyone keep up, myself included. Passion dies fast and the only successful campaigns of any bits have been laid back narrative campaigns that don't go over a month. I wish you the ABSOLUTE best of luck and would adore seeing updates from you and others! It'd be great to see the whole roster of folks doing this campaign with you and to see the army diversity within it. Love these type of series, helps me dream of a brighter future where I too can do this. lol

Here in Long Beach CA we played in a shop called The Warhouse. Its no more due to Mr. Steve passing away. We did a paint and play and start with 500pts and keep adding every month 500pts . In 4 months we would have full 200pts of painted armys.
I'd definitely love to see your progress on your AoS army! Hopefully this will help you relax a bit and not worry about making every model 'perfect'. I'd review some of Vincey V's army painting videos. They give some great tips. For instance, if you struggle doing the same model over and over again, alternate between 5-man groups of your different units. Save those badass ones as rewards.
Not at all to 'mansplain' stuff to you-- you're about a level above me as a painter, especially with display, but stuff I've also learned from Marco Frisoni and Jon is to really leverage undercoats and transparent paints. Priming with a dark color of the desired temperature (eg, dark grey for blue areas, terracotta for reds. If you models are only partially bright red, that dark red-brown undercoat in those areas will be essential), then doing a white airbrush zenithal followed by a white drybrush for edges, then gloss varnishing and then using contrast/transparent paints will produce results exponentially faster than traditional layering, which I've seen you favor. And it often looks better! Just be sure to matt varnish your models to kill the gloss before moving on to the metallics.
Happy painting and I hope you find how rewarding it can be to actually get your models painted! Thirty 85% perfect models are better than two 97% perfect models!

Very keen to see the followups on the Northern Conqeuerors campaign,, both battle summaries (maybe keep it to 20-30min) and also hobby vids of you building the army piece by piece. Perhaps also do a few terrain pieces/collabs?
Two thoughts on your army completion woes;
Firstly you could go for an 'elite' centric army which focuses on higher points value models (40k example would be Custodes, Knights) - less to paint
Second challenge yourself to do a couple of squads to just the mandatory "3 colours" standard. As a display painter it will make you ache inside, but it's a discipline itself to focus on basics and get rhe model essentially to rhe standard of a moulded action figure

I've been into miniwargaming since at least 9 years. Today is the day I 100% finished painting a new army (Martells for Asoiaf) for the first time since starting. Untill now there was always something left or not done...now, I do have still a shitload of grey on my pile of shame but I'm happy ;)

MWG did something similar with a new player and made videos on both the games and the hobby progress if you haven't seen it might give you some inspiration.
As far as escalation league of personal stories, I ran a path to glory for a friend GM & 1 player style and I think that's where the 3.0 system really shines. I think you've set yourself up for a very reasonable time frame and goals.I love how you've already decided the pairings ahead of time so players know exactly who and when they need to play against.
i had a cool campain of Star Wars Legion that also was a Star War Edge of the Empire game. the EoE game people played as commanders and stuff and later int he week we would play games of legion to determine outcome of encounters. it was super awesome.

I definitely find it easier to have a purpose to make dents in my backlog. Like I have tons of Blood bowl minis like you and finding something to play them in helps. Whether be tournaments or a local league. If that's a game system you wanna learn theres a massive community in the twin cities. You are welcome to come out or contact our Commissioners. But it's always good to see a good dent in a backlog hit the table.

I have one finished army, and it was really easy getting it finished... by playing Chaos Knights in 40k. 4 Models & i'm done.
In all seriousness though, i really struggle with finishing my other projects as well, because Conversions, Kitbashes & Scratchbuilds are just so much more fun than
painting the same scheme over and over.

Please post update videos even if you fall off! This escalation structure does seem like your best chance to actually paint an army.
After trying and failing to paint three 40K armies and two AoS armies over the last 3 years, I've recently gotten into MCP and loving it as a more achievable target to fully paint a roster. The only problem is now I'm painting each character to a much higher standard, so it's still taking a while haha. It's also really helping that I'm playing Mcp regularly so I see my unpainted and partially painted models on the table and feel motivated to work on them more, and this escalation league will help the same way if you fall behind
So basically its a Crusade League like we do in 40k. Its my favorite mode

Northern Conquerors sounds epic, and it also sounds like a great way to get people into a game. Definitely a fan of how you went about it though, things like it I feel need to be tailored to the people who are a part of it that way it works well for everyone and they get the best experience possible. It will never be perfect but the less stress the more fun
TOTALLY Put your campaign games on your CZcams! This is something I wish I did instead of diving so heavily as I did into Chaos (best faction still though)

I was in an Escalation League around this time last year and we made it to 1250 before schedule, medical and other items came up that just sunk it. But I will say getting into FEC was freakin awesome. I love the terrorgheist model, and has to be one of my favorite Units GW has ever produced. We had similar rules in that you were allowed to drop and swap models to better fit the points but it would cost as per the rules in the book. All in all I would LOVE to run another League whether that be in AoS 3rd, or 40K 10th if it be inbound by summer.
