    People who lose their shit if a game can't run at 120fps at max settings on a hand held really need a reality check. Got a deck last year and I'm constantly blown away by how well it runs the majority of games.

      Yeah. You are right. I personally find 60 fps better than 120 because that means I get better picture quality. That is for PC ofcourse. For consoles, it depends on the game, 30 for some, 60 for some, and 120 for a few. With the steam deck I guess mostly outside of older games and indies it should be 30 fps.

    I limit the frames to 30 for Elden ring and play on medium as well. In over 177 hours the only place I've had stutters is during specific moments in boss cutscenes, which is weird but it's consistently the exact same spot each time. People don't realize that in a handheld 30 fps is still good because the screen is so small. It still looks crisp and I don't even have the OLED version. I'm definitely happy with the quality.

    It looks like when you enable the manual gpu clock at 1600, it pulls power away from the CPU, and puts it toward the GPU. This would help in GPU bound scenarios, but the performance might be worse in CPU heavy areas of the game like dense crowds.

  • @MegasXaos

    I used to chase the maximum frame rate. Then I got a 49" curved monitor and had to give up that quest. But I found that for me the sweetspot is right around 45fps which the steamdeck is more than capable of doing for most games on sensible settings. If I want raytracing and maximum everything, I have my desktop. But for something portable I can throw in my backback and go? It's glorious!

    This is QUALITY content here my guy! I’ve been holding off on buying the deck, mainly because I plan to play cyberpunk and witcher3 on it and I came to the conclusion that if I don’t run natively and stream from my pc (rtx 4080/13700k)it will hit way higher numbers. So if anyone is in the same boat, you can always stream and it will always be better. This video convinced me to just go ahead and order it , let’s see what happens lol

  • @TheTraveler980
    @TheTraveler980 Před dnem +2

    I just turn everything to low, max out texture details, and turn off reflections + godrays. FSR is used when possible in-game, like Baldur's Gate 3.
    You also should lower Watts used to where you _just_ experience a dip in performance, then raise it by 1 (and only raise it until dips no longer occur).
    I play most games at 45fps too.

  • @Talulah_Artorius
    @Talulah_Artorius Před 4 měsíci +4

    With fsr and a little tweaking you can push 50-60fps on most games...
    Elden ring for example fsr at 658p at Hugh settings you get 50 to 60, drop it to medium and you'll be hitting 60 constantly, it's really nuts (my steam deck only has cryo utilities and 4gb vram in bios in terms of tweaking which basically everyone should do anyways)

    • @nophacetech4596
      @nophacetech4596  Před 4 měsíci

      Absolutely, I agree that for those who prioritize achieving 60fps, fine-tuning to this extent is possible. However, I personally don't mind playing with enhanced visuals, and as long as the frame rate stays above 30fps, I'm content. If it reaches into the 40s, that's even better for a handheld device. I believe that 60fps and above are more significant for larger consoles or PCs.

He just didn't use FSR3 upscaler. Just a quick reminder that without, a mod you won't be able to use Frame Generation option like He did in the video and get 60's on your own. This is really cool. But can’t help me not think about a new steam deck someday with more power. The technology is there, now I wonder what they can do with better chips inside this thing someday. But it’s very cool people can play the latest games in this thing. Also very cool they did steam deck settings to get people super good frames in some of titles you were showing. Valve is doing all the good things. Giving people great gaming experience with tons of tweak options available.

      @nophacetech4596  Před 4 měsíci +4

      I'm genuinely excited about the next Steam Deck, but I suspect it won't be released for a few years. You can easily install Windows on the Deck. However, the Ally is more powerful, and if you're not interested in the major benefit of avoiding Windows (which isn't great on handhelds), then choosing an Ally or Legion Go might be a better option. At this point, I'd probably wait to see what new, improved handheld V2 comes out this year or just opt for an OLED Steam Deck.

It makes for a better experience for sure and allows them to tweak it for such a long time that it performs surprisingly well. However i'm going to be pretty interested if next year a Legion Go 2 comes out i would probably pick that up for the raw power but we will have to see if that happens.

    You literally had FSR 3 on for the “unmodded” section of the Cyberpunk test. The reason you had better performance the first time is because you pinned the GPU, which you need to do for cyberpunk with fsr 3. I can’t tell if it’s pure incompetence or if you’re misleading your audience for whatever reason.

    • @nophacetech4596
      @nophacetech4596  Před 4 měsíci

      What do you mean I had the fsr 3 mod on for the unmodded section? I only used the fsr 3 mod on the labeled sections. However I did learn that with fsr 3 on I should have not pinned the gpu at Max and that might be why the steam deck presets worked better with frs 3 off.. I need to go back and try. I'm not sure if you are trying to say something different or not.. because the first test on steam deck settings is locked at 1600 and then I turned fsr3 on and still had it pinned like you said it needed... However that's the problem it needs to be not pinned with fsr3 on. Sounds like you are telling me I needed to do it just like I did do it but others have pointed out to me it might do better with the fsr not maxing out the gpu. Still interesting because at ultra maxed gpu turning the fsr made a noticeable difference so I just need to try it I guess.

    • @cringeusername9705
      @cringeusername9705 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@nophacetech4596 No. You can’t get 60fps in cyberpunk without frame generation. The only reason you got 60fps in the unmodded section is because you pinned the GPU while using FSR 3 , which improves performance. At 5:19 you can see “DLSS FRAME GENERATION” is on. This means the mod is active. The reason you had worse performance in the modded section is because you weren’t pinning the GPU. This game requires GPU pinning while using FSR 3. It’s a pretty well known fact.

    • @nophacetech4596
      @nophacetech4596  Před 4 měsíci

      That's not the mod. The video clearly shows FSR 2.1 selected. To engage the mod, one needs to switch to DLSS, which is the mod's method for enabling FSR 3, since it's not yet available. Moreover, I have confirmed the GPU is pinned, a point you've reiterated twice. It's peculiar to label it a well-known fact, considering FSR 3 isn't even released for this game. The objective of your argument remains unclear, as you keep advising to activate FSR 3 and maximize GPU usage, which is precisely what's demonstrated in the video. Contrary to your suggestion, others have noted that maximizing GPU performance isn't the correct approach when using FSR 3, as it demands more CPU power.@@cringeusername9705

    • @cringeusername9705
      @cringeusername9705 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@nophacetech4596 Lol loud but wrong. In this specific game, while using FSR 3, pinning the GPU improves performance. You can enable FSR 3 by selecting either DLSS or FSR 2.1. To fully disable the mod you literally have to delete the launch option you added to enable the mod. You can’t switch to FSR, which I suspect is literally all you did to “disable” the mod.
      Since I obviously can’t convince you, I’ll ask you to actually test it yourself. Go the properties of Cyberpunk and delete your launch option completely. Notice how you don’t get the mod window. Now go to settings. Notice how the DLSS Frame Generation option is grayed out. Try playing the game at whatever settings you like. Notice how you aren’t getting 60fps. Close the game. Put the launch command back into the launch options box. Notice the mod window pop up. Ho to settings. Notice how DLSS Frame Generation can now be toggled on or off. Select FSR 2.1 and turn DLSS frame generation on. Start playing without GPU pinning. Notice how you are getting a higher framerate than before, but it isn’t 60fps. Now try pinning the gpu at 1600mhz. Notice how you get much closer to 60fps. Now switch to DLSS and turn off the GPU pinning. Notice the exact same results as FSR 2.1, except with less flickering. Now pin the GPU to 1600mhz. Notice how your FPS increases. You can even try using XESS upscaling. It will look less visually smooth, but it will display 60fps on the framerate graph. No matter which upscaler you use, the mod is still active, increasing the FPS displayed on the FPS counter, even if it only works properly when selecting DLSS. When you selected FSR 2.1 at 5:19, DLSS frame generation was on, which PROVES that the mod was active. Yes, GPU pinning generally decreases performance when a game is cpu limited, (which cyberpunk isn’t) however, this game with the FSR 3 mod has improved performance. End of story. Go test it out yourself.
      Switching to FSR instead of DLSS does not disable the mod. Also don’t use the auto preset for DLSS or FSR as it decreases performance.

As I already mentioned, the “auto” setting tanks performance while using FSR 3 especially. (You were accidentally using FSR 3.)

    1:22 Locking the screen to 45hz is only beneficial if the game regularly runs ABOVE 45fps (meaning you've got the game capped consistently to 45fps), if you're running below 45fps you'd actually just get a more smooth experience keeping the screen at 90hz.
    If you have any doubts whether 90hz is smoother than 45hz on game running 38fps average just look at the frame time graph.
    Elden Ring looks like another case where you're actually best off capping to just 30hz, it's entirely possible you'll have lower input lag capping to 30hz than fluctuating at the mid-30's.

      @nophacetech4596  Před 4 měsíci +1

      both great choices but man the OLED is so nice. the Ally is smaller if that is important but to me the steam deck is such a great size.

    • @paprika2280
      @paprika2280 Před 3 měsíci

      Depends on the games you're going to play. Are those games where frame rate matters that much? Then get the Ally. If you're playing mostly indie titles and some triple a stuff here and there, emulations and such go for SD. I think I'm gonna get the OLED for playing things like Forza, Dredge, Doom and Persona 5 and I do dig the better battery life. Anyway if something new gets released I'm selling the OLED right away :D

    Not sure why you have such a bad performance on the Witcher 3. I get 60-70fps on medium to high settings on the Witcher. Maybe I got a unicorn steam deck

      i think someone just told me.. im running it in DX12 and it runs better in DX11.. so i'm going to try that and i might get better performance.

    You praise valve on Efficiency and knowing what handhelds need yet valve didn’t include vrr to the oled when it clearly needs it when it isn’t able to lock its own steam games at 60/90fps lol

      Actually as far as Ive seen most if not all of valves games on steam run at 60fps locked on max setting. Halflife 1&2 portals lfd2 the steam deck screen is great.

    What is AAA means?

    • @nophacetech4596
      @nophacetech4596  Před 3 měsíci

      AAA" (Triple-A) games refer to video games that are developed and published by major studios with significant budgets for development, marketing, and promotion. The term "AAA" signifies the quality and scope of the project, similar to how movies might be categorized as blockbusters. AAA games are typically expected to sell millions of copies and have a wide-reaching impact on the gaming industry, often setting trends and standards for game development and player expectations.
      The term "AAA" does not stand for anything specific in the context of video games; instead, it's a classification that originated from the finance industry. In finance, a "AAA" rating is the highest possible rating assigned to a borrower's debts

    Steam deck GPU is pretty close to gtx 1060 - 1080 models. Absuletely not higher than that

    Being a gamer from Atari on ,there's nothing more that I could want in a handheld FFS. I wish I could see the faces of the modern "gamer" if suddenly all that they had was a first Gen Gameboy, that was powered by AA batteries for gaming on the go. The better devices get, the more jaded and nihilistic the average consumer becomes. Really sad.

    "Cant play it" = It doest get 244 frames in 8k on ultra with ray tracing on steam deck. I think when we get a steam deck 2, itll hit high no problem, and maybe some stutter on ultra. Thats my prediction anyway.

      Yeah I feel like deck 2 is going to be pretty solid but dang the new UE 5 games are a bit much so possibly steam deck 2 will be running new aaa like the deck runs current aaa games.. but current aaa will yeah probably run ultra and I'm pumped.

      I love all the benefits of the OLED; even just the screen size and quality is SO much of a noticeable difference. But the better Wi-Fi and Bluetooth was surprisingly noticeable as well; it connects to my headphones and controllers way easier and faster. Also, I play lots of lighter games that do play at 90Hz, and it's great. With all that said, I DO think the LCD deck is the best handheld money can buy by far!! For lots of people, it's all they really need or would want.
