You have done so much! The car looks great. I have been working on MGs for quite some time. Those Webers never work right. Clean up those SU carbs and put them back on. A good shop manual will guide you with setting them up. Once set, they work well. Also, you do want to hear a little valve clatter since that engine has solid lifters. Over tightening the valves can burn them, wipe out the cam, and can cause backfiring.
I would agree with this. The SU carbs run great when the are clean and properly tuned.
I love watching all the MGB content. My dad has had a 1973 MGB since new, so I have lots of memories growing up working on it with him. I owned a 1971 MGBGT for a little while too, but it it really cool watching a younger guy work on one of these. Keep up the good work!
All that black soot in the intake is a very bad sign, that's caused by reversion or the engine backfiring out of the intake which can happen in a lean situation but it's also a very common issue if the valves are set too tight, meaning the intake valve gets hung open slightly during the compression stroke or you could have a camshaft that's is either wiped out or starting to fail, the reason why is because usually the exhaust lobes on the cam will go out first so the cylinder will still get air and fuel and fire but will not evacuate out of the exhaust port, instead the exhaust will come through the intake port and will cause the engine to backfire out of the intake and run really poor, I have seen this exact scenario many times.
Yea what he said... lol
Ok thanks man! I’ll definitely check this out as well!
Love to see your back makin videos, love the teaser for next episode too👍
It's AMAZING migs on all this knowledge you have from small to big engines and repairing engines...I really which I had the knowledgeable like you have to do things like this.
Thanks for keeping us updated....Great! Channel 👍👍
Yes Migs, loving the MGB build, you got this 👊👍
Thanks! I’m glad you like it!!
great job migs! your always finding a way to fix any sort of engine!
Love the videos on the Mg. Keep it up migs 👍
Great video.
I got a 74 B last August.
Nice way to keep us all into suspense I believe you're doing an awesome job on that car they've been going there bud
You do a great job of showing old school tuning tips. Get yourself a vacuum gauge and you can do even more.
The jets in this carb make it perform correctly. Especially the idle jet on the left side of the carb as you face the vehicle.
Best video you've ever made.
Valve adjustment must be made after head is off. You have a new head gasket that will be a different compressed thickness than the old one.
Slow down. Read resources. Know before you act. Do it once, do it right.
Cant wait for the first road drive!!
Me too!! We’ll get there!
These Weber downdrafts are not right for the MGB, no matter what the hustlers(sellers) say. .. especially the latest ones made in Spain.
I would gladly have given you one with manifold in near new condition. Removed form a 1963 I bought recently.
Inefficient, suck gas, and need to be correctly jetted with the car on a dyno.. they are fiddly junk. A waste of time and money.
Find a proper set of SUs.
Nice
back in 1976 I put a Weber on my MGB GT, Ecurie Ecosse told me that they would never run well unless I changed the camshaft to a Stage 1. If you do not want this expense buy a rebuild kit for the SUs and sell the Weber.
Great job man on rebuilding the engine, For the minimal space you had to work with. I have the same problem haha bunch of bikes in a tiny garage and trying to work on them is like very difficult
Who asked
@@nicknorris3002 your mum..
Check your firing order I think you possibly have a crossed spark plug wires also you might want to check your points Gap and make sure you're getting a blue Spark if it's getting an orange Spark that's not good that will make it burn rich which might possibly be the condenser or the coil definitely double check the firing order though
Are you still working on the fire truck project
what happened is when you started it fo the first time the timing was off and it backfired in the intake hard enough to blow the gasket
That's why I never put a dry gasket on any thing...
How the race cart thing and the firetruck build thing
Hey migs I am 18 years old I really want to get into car motors i just want to know how long you studied to know all of this about a engin
Thanks.
You just have to overcome the fear of taking it apart, the only way to learn to work on cars is hands on. Start small change oil then brake pads then plugs then cv/driveshaft etc etc... Once you start doing it youll see how easy it is. Almost forgot youtube and google are great knowledge resources as well as if u can find a forum specific to your vehicle
Thanks for your tips i am almost finished with school and really want to go in the machanics way
U shouldn't have black exhaust sut coming through intake ports somethings not rite
That is from when it backfired out the carb that can happen. It should be good now that he readjusted the valves.
Rebuild those su carbs!!!!
Put the original carb back on !!!!!
4x4 swap it get a lift put it on 35s and boom off road mg
