Dwayne Johnson has been trying to get his Black Adam made for nearly fifteen years. Now, in 2022, it’s finally come to life. And one thing is for sure, it’s a movie that came out, and now the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe has been affected in some way probably.
Black Adam definitely raises some questions. Like why are Atom Smasher and Cyclone even in this movie? What was up with that Eternium stuff that make Black Adam weak? Why was that kid always skateboarding? Is Black Adam a bad guy just because he keeps saying he is? Why can’t Doctor Fate stop removing his helmet all the time?

My favorite thing about Black Adam is how they literally had a scene where he flew to a different country simply to fill the Rock’s contract obligation to appear in a jungle

@@ChristophBrinkmann Yes. We can criticize Phase 4, but MCU was amazing for years. DCEU doesn't exist. They have few amazing unrelated project but they seem to be unable to form any real cinematic universe despite literally competing with existing CU they can learn from.

There's also a good 40 minutes of exposition and flashbacks to support him saying he isn't a hero! A lot of it in slo-mo! I just watched the movie, it's very not good.
At the end I was expecting:
"Wait, she can send superman places?"
"She sure can"
"So why doesn't she send him instead of the justice society?"
"Hey, shut up"
because that way america can’t take credit for saving Kahndaq.
I feel like Siciety whole together should be more powerful than Superman .

Black Adam was definitely one of those movies where the story was written in a way that the movie could keep happening.
I think I speak for all of us when I say, Black Adam was one of the movies ever made!

Instead of that moment towards the end of the second act happening in a natural way like say in _Infinity War_ where Dr. Strange stops Thanos from killing Tony and trades Tony’s life for the Time Stone, here it's just contrived and happens cause it needs to happen. The movie wasn't BAD it was good fun, but it did just feel like "okay, so Inciting moment, check Hook check, First Plot Point check, Midpoint (2nd plot point), check, Third plot point check, Climax, check, Climactic Moment, check, Resolution, check." It felt like they had the layout, but HOW they got to each point was just "eh whatever works" lol.
Best way to describe any Marvel movie anywhere ever.

I think it’d be hilarious if you did an old-timey black and white pitch meeting for Casablanca or some other classic. Have your characters wear fedoras and chain-smoke the whole video! 😂

Casablanca is a good choice. There probably wont be so much to make fun of but that in itself might be interesting to watch. All the catch phrases still there but the movie is actually well put together. Or maybe it will turn out that they werent but we just thought they were... Other suggestions could be Godfather and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Me too! It may seem like a small deal but movies are made from small things like that. It would be much better if ship would alarm with something like "Exotic radiation detected!" and magic guy says he senses something... very evil! *suspense*

I caught that and I was only half paying attention at that point. Like wait, did it just show them the NAME of the new demon that was just created like, right now??

My favorite part of the movie was when The Rock says that his powers aren’t a gift, but a curse. I bet a lot of movies will use that fresh new take from now on.

I swear, this formula and style of jokes really ought to have gotten old by now, but your delivery and comedic timing is so good that it is still excellent, even after however many Pitch Meetings it has been.

One thing I found unbelievable was despite the numerous times he broke through the wall like the Kool-Aid man, the mom never once gets upset or tells him to stop destroying her home. Even when he was fighting with Hawkman and smashing into furniture and ruining her son's room, she was just standing there like "this is fine."

Edit: New Line Cinema was supposed to introduce Black Adam during Shazam in 2008 so they could do the Black Adam movie, but then it got passed to WB.

What it doesn't explain is why the movie is so bad and inaccurate.
the trailer and opening revealing the "twist" was my biggest gripe about the movie. they were so serious about it being the kid, even though we absolutely know its the father, EVERYONE KNEW.

I don't know if it's a compliment to Ryan that he can always find some part of a movie to work in "super easy, barely an inconvenience" or if it's a sign of how movies are made nowadays that there's always some important plot point that's dealt with too easily by the characters because it just needs to happen

It's the latter. Found out by trying to write my own stuff and realizing you do find yourself reaching for that Deus Ex Machina type of solution here and there. Here and there it's also a fine trick to use but if it's your main issue of all your narrative that's being solved like that, you should rewrite it all...or pitch it as is
Personally I'd say it's difficult in average to make a movie that doesn't have a cliche of some kind ya know

We need to get this guy in an actual movie, just a small but semi important role that lasts about 27 seconds. Barely an inconvenience and everyone is gonna be like “hey, isn’t he that guy who does the thing” and then everybody else is gonna be like “oh hey, he is that guy from that thing”. “Wow”… “wow wow wow”.

I mean they helped fight Black Adam, helped try to find the kid, and helped in the final battle. They did what Rookie Superheroes in another character's movie should.
They were more or less as relevant as Black Widow and Hawkeye were in the first Avengers movie, and this wasn't even a movie about their team. They also weren't just there to fight each other or fodder like Widow and Hawkeye were.
Cyclone also got to mention her backstory, had a relation to Hawkman, and explained her powers. Atom Smasher was a second generation hero, their powerhouse, and the comedy relief.
Cyclone was the best Ariel that Disney missed

I loved and had a blast with Black Adam, but I left the theater thinking, "Oh man, I can't wait for the Pitch Meeting."
Literally my husband and I on our date a couple days ago. XD we mostly enjoyed the movie, but were basically making up the anticipated pitch meeting on the drive home! XD watching it now, we're kind of surprised ryan made no mention of how insanely easy it was to fight the skeletons, or why they'd even *bother* doing it in melee with random pipes and such when clearly the van worked so well..... heh. still great video!

Love super hero movies. Started watching this movie and after about 45 mins I got up, washed dishes, some laundry, and surfed the web. I totally forgot about the movie. It was so good.
That “Super easy, barely an inconvenience,” for the kid rallying up the adults to fight is so much funnier after watching the movie 😂
The best thing about Black Adam was leaving the theater and just imagining for a whole week what Ryan was gonna say about it. Worth it!

Right when I saw it in the movie, at the part where Black Adam spoke English 5 minutes after being awakened after 5000 years, I was so stoked to see what Ryan would come up with for the scene. Predicting comedy genius is TIGHT!

I think Hollywood should employ Ryan to sit in on actual pitch meetings, the writer giving the pitch could look over at Ryan from time to time and Ryan would just silently shake his head or nod in the corner.
I think they should look more when he giggles (oh this idea is so stupid perfect for the sketch). So as soon he giggles it is a bad idea.
Let’s be honest, I’m the heat of the moment while watching the movie, most of the stuff doesn’t seem that bad. Only when Ryan points it all out does it look as silly as it really is

Nope. Its easy to point out flaws, its hard to come up with ideas that don't make for very boring, very convoluted movies.
Well, Doctor Fate is probably one of the few characters where it makes sense for him to be removing the helmet regularly.
Everyone loves his normal catch phrases, but my favourite low key one is the really quick "Hey shutup" he does every now and then.

He's very knowledgeable when it comes to colonialism but thinks that a man that just woke up after 5000 years will know who The Flash is.
That prison scene was kind of disturbing. The justice society was hard core against killing, but that seems like a worse fate than death and they openly say they’ll never let him out. 😬
Gotta love when morality of characters or organisations are written by a first year philosophy major.

@@st4ne4rmthevill63 Yeah, not sure why they seemed to be trying overly hard to make the Justice Society unlikable. I rationalized the Dr. Fate thing as Kent just being too old to withstand/harness as much of the power anymore since he mentioned being Fate for 100 years by that point.

When it's a Pitch Meeting, I "like" the video before I play the video.
I love how there's little moments where one of yhe characters is scratching their nose or forehead. Really makes them feel grounded and like they're actually having a conversation

No plot, no drama, cringe forced comedy, combining Deadpool & Ant-Man and make Atom smasher (funny, similar mask, clumsy, get big and step on stuff!)
And ofcourse that one problem I have with all DC movies and tv shows : Scale! like the gut can move at the speed of sound but can not see an arrow coming?! and etc.

Actually Cyclone had explain about the helmet in the movie. Dr Fate's soul might be corrupted by Nabu if he didn't take it off constantly.

Screenwriter Guy was particularly unhinged in this episode. It's incredible to chart the progress of Ryan's acting from the early episodes until now.

I love watching pitch meetings right after watching the movie, so good!
i watch all your stuff but this is one of those times I feel there is something misrepresented or not known. the Powers of Shazam (all the Marvel Family and Black Adam) can only be invoked when the lightning can reach the person invoking the powers. Black Adam could not summon his powers in the submerged prison- but he could use the tank breathing apparatus to reach the surface, where he could invoke the powers of Shazam. So, that is what he did. Thanks for another great skit!
My favorite the rock movie was the one where he starred aside Sean Connery and Nick Cage. Definitely his best performance.

Couple thing I want to point out:
1. In the comics, Black Adam has the wisdom of Zehuti (I might be misspelling that) which gives him any relevant information whenever he needs it. I imagine this is how Adam was able to speak English.
2. If Adam said Shazam as soon as he got out of the capsule thing, he would likely either destroy the underwater base or create a hole in the base that would let water in and flood it.
Yeah his powers are the same as shazams but he takes the power from a different pantheon of gods, so his abilities have different limits and details
Additionally, saying shazam would transform him into the original version of himself who is over 5000 years old
Also for 2. He did try to get the mouth thing off. It wasn't until he was in the water that it released tho. Presumably because it thought Adam was unconscious in the water like he was supposed to be, or he just managed to figure out how to take it off.

There are movies where screenwriters labor for ages to craft scenes. And then there is shit like this where they simply fart that nonsense out within minutes. Let's not pretend this would play in the same league and instead just enjoy the ride.

I loved at the end of the movie when he said with an introspective and satisfied grin “This really was Black Adam, wasn’t it”
Turns out the Blackest Adam was the friends we made along the way
and then the girl said "what are we? some kind of Black Adam" definitely one of the lines ever
I liked the scene where Hawkman is teaching Atom Smasher how to drive their fancy jet and a stowaway walks by and goes, "Ah boy, I'm just so tired of all these Black Adams."

This movie was actually really fun to watch but I still love the criticism in pitch meetings 😂 I thought he would talk about how exposition heavy it is at times
Weird how he didn't talk about how the coolest character hardly used any offensive power. Just traps
Yeah, I really thought he was gonna mention how forced Hawkman and Amanda Waller's meeting was. It was just him naming powers for the audience.
I thought he might talk about how the movie should have ended when he went underwater and how the rest of it felt added on when they could have had a cool next movie to build up to. But maybe they just wanted to get him into the DCEU immediately.
I enjoyed the movie but it says more about:
1. Lack of quality movies in general let alone from DC
2. Anti heroes are cool as we don't live in a fairy tail and it was trying to portray that Black Adam will do what it takes for the greater good.
2. Branding and passion from Dwane Johnson, the man did his best effort and was one of his biggest goals.
I only was disappointed due to how much better the movie could have been.

Cyclone is the only one I can’t really think of a direct counterpart
Lots of DC & Marvel heroes have counterparts. Marvel copied DC, DC copied Marvel. For example, DC created Aquaman specifically because Marvel created Namor. But Marvel created Doctor Strange after DC created Doctor Fate.
This is the first Pitch Meeting, I have seen that made me want to see the movie. This script sounds so convoluted, and confusing, there must be amazing special effects.

I watched black Adam in the theater with my dad and it made me feel like i was 7 going to see a superhero movie and it was cool not needing any more context and I just enjoyed the movie with my dad
