There has been an absolute media frenzy surrounding the release of Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine? Was Shia Laboeuf fired? Did Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh get in a shouting match on set? Are Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde even still talking? Did Nick Kroll just kiss Harry Styles?! In the midst of all the chaos, it’s been easy to forget that there’s an actual movie surrounding the drama!
Don’t Worry Darling definitely raises some questions. Like what is going on, and will we get any answers for any of it? How does this simulation thing even work? How is Jack’s simulation life any better than his previous life? How does this simulation not have any safeguards against escape? What was the point of the electroshock therapy if it doesn’t even hold for five minutes? Did three cars just crash into each other in an open desert?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to the Don’t Worry Darling!

“Don’t Worry” was probably a phrase thrown out around a lot in the writers room, and coming up with the title was super easy, barely an inconvenience
Don’t worry about it.
Indeed, the writers were hoping that we didn't notice the obvious plot holes and inconsistencies, so don't worry about it at all!
Oh, really?
Ohhb hilarious so funny
Wasn’t this written and directed by a woman tho? They were just talking to her
"How is this better than the life he was living?" Why that made me laugh. 😆
Y'know it feels like there might have been some real potential for satire in a story that focused on how much domestic work the husband was required to do in order to keep his wife brainwashed into thinking she was subservient to him...
What I want to know is, if it was THAT easy for him to find a job after he took on all the extra responsibility of taking care of every one of his wife's physical needs (which also paid well-enough to do so), why did he spend so much time beforehand as an unemployed loser who listened to podcasts all day?
lol
@@johnnye87 I really think you're right. That sounds like a great satire, maybe not for a film but a short story, I can see that working
@@Robert-hz9bj because that was required for this movie to try and push the stupid narrative it was made around 😂
Movie studios REALLY, REALLY need to hire Ryan to come listen to their actual pitch meetings before they green light a movie. Especially a movie like this one.
If they did that, we wouldn't have the pleasures of this channel.
@@williammkydde True. We would need some sort of time loop escape.
It was a great movie. Ofc every movie sounds ridiculous when you nitpick everything with a fine-tooth comb. It’s not real. It’s a movie. Hell even real life is ridiculous.
@@DeathnoteBB An interesting movie, yes. Great? No. And it isn't nitpicking when one points out major plot holes and logic failures.

Also him: "Let me put my wife in a coma where I'll have devote all my free time to feed her, bathe her, clean her, give her eye drops, exercise her, groom her, and do literally everything else required for her to not die."
This is the kind of sh1t that gets produced when agenda comes before telling a good story
Yeah the premise was fucking stupid because the creators are more concerned with moronic political ideology pandering than making coherent storytelling or logic or creativity.
honestly, though, i can see how that might be the point. men don't know what they actually want and they're easily conned into thinking something will be good for them that isn't.

This really felt like a Pitch Meeting
@Yura Yuryevich it’s here finally
🖕
Haha
Indeed, it felt like a hypothetical for a Pitch Meeting for a movie, that you can see.
It feels like 2 people are talking
That's what i like about this pitch meeting because it really feels like a pitch meeting you watch on youtube
This is the kind of movie that happens when you get a great idea that doesn't actually make any sense, but you've somehow convinced yourself that you're brilliant for thinking it up.
Writers: I love that we can work on cocaine!!!!!!
It's that brilliant idea you write down when you're high, but wake up to find it complete nonsense
Wasn't it Olivia Wild who did the whole thing?
The thing is, apparently the original script actually did deal with the real world more. Not sure what possessed them to change it to this-- oh, right. Money.
There's also a strong showing of "a political message that overwhelms the actual film". Highlighting gender issues is a laudable goal (particularly because there are a disgusting amount of people who don't understand them), but but when the message overrides the logic of the film it just confuses and defangs the message. Kind of like what happened with District 9 and racism.
How this man has this level of chemistry with himself is a real mystery.
"Ahhh we'll find out what that's about later" ... "No"
Because there are actually two actors. The writer is on the left and the another guy is on the right. He later face aps his face to the guy on the right and dubs the voice in a studio.
I mean, they are in the same room can't you see!
the different inflections Ryan used for all the classic Pitch Meeting lines were especially hilarious this time, idk why. "oh ok let me get off of that thing" was just amazing
I noticed that too. I guess he needs to change it up a bit after 300+ pitch meetings. 😅
Was especially rad here 😀
I was trying to find the words to explain this too!!! I rather enjoyed it!
Yes I cackled out loud when he said it like that 😂🤣 I'm so addicted to these pitch meetings 😵💫🥴🙃
Can't believe someone actually pitched this movie in real life
This storyline is taken from a classic softcore didn't remember the name though.
Usman - it was super easy, barely an inconvenience 🙂
It’s actually a very generic film, nothing out of the ordinary. It would probably have served better as a Black Mirror episode or something
It is a force left wing political agenda movement. 1. It tries to vilify podcasts because most podcasts are conservative base. 2. The movie trying villify men and traditional marriage. 3. Ignores all basic logic of writing and storytelling to shoot the force political message down your throat.
You mean this isn't the actual footage?
This feels like a movie script that wanted to be WAAAAAY smarter than it actually turned out to be.
I feel like it could've been improved massively by linking the weird events to the real world. Like Ryan said, when the husband excercises her legs she could suddenly cut to going for a run and not know how she got there. They could film all the actresses not blinking and randomly having watery eyes in scenes. They could have the only food in the simulation be whatever they feed coma patients. You know, just generally connecting plot hints to the actual story.
Making the woman who is sacrificing her life to be with (simulations of) her kids actually really happy to see them again would also help. Like, have her be unreasonably happy and grateful. I think that would sell it a bit more.
@@OneIssueVoterwhat does woke mean? Are you saying the movie just woke up and is half asleep?
@@OneIssueVoter is it more woke than the original? The original was a satirical horror about feminism and men wanting docile unthinking housewives.

The pleading and desperation in producer guy’s voice @ 1:40 seems incredibly genuine, like he’s really, really worried about things not being as they seem.
"Don't Worry Darling" is what Olivia Wilde say to the producers when they read the script and started to have some serious questions about it.
That would make for a nice parody, lol.
The sequel will be called "Get All The Way Off My Back About This".
It’s also probably what she told her husband when he asked if everything was ok while she was cheating on him with Harry Styles (allegedly)

Watching these is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Only if you're worried about screenplay. Fanboyflicks goes way more in depth if you want to deconstruct movies. But he only does bad movies.
I've always been curious if these videos have ever helped writers/filmmakers critique their own ideas
This movie was someone’s dream right before they woke up. But quickly forgot all the in-between bits so just stitched all the parts they remembered together and put it in a movie.
After you're done laughing can we all appreciate this poor man had to probably watch this movie more than once and take notes. Dear god the horror
Honestly watching it once with a sticky note while listing off the plot points is all you need. It's pretty bare bones.
-Sketchy 50s vibe
-Weird stuff
-Obvious Villain guy
-More Weird stuff
-Plot Twist and Ending
And Ryan didn't even get to drag Harry Styles off to a trailer and bang him every five minutes!
I feel like Don’t Worry Darling’s biggest issue is that every idea that it has, has been done before and done better in other movies
An episode of Black Mirror (S04E01) literally did it better in 2/3 of the runtime.
All the drama behind the scenes ruined the movie for me lol like all this drama for a pretty mediocre movie lol
"Stepford Wives" the original.
Exactly, but still being quite interesting, classical "turn of your brain" movie.
Stepford Wives? What's that?
I bet the movie writers, directors and CEOs hate Pitch Meetings. Because the awesome videos simply highlights their incompetence with ease 😅
The director doesn’t care. She doesn’t even care about her husband when she’s sleeping with Harry Styles.
😂
I’m pretty everyone involved with this movie already realizes how incompetent it is. . .
Bro, how have you not learned the main message of Pitch Meetings; that those people care about making money and literally nothing else.
Man the marketing for these type of movies is so Weird and Toxic filled, it's crazy.
5:29
*Enthusiasticly* AHA!
no.
Desperately want this to be added to your never ending list of catchphrases
I thought it was odd how the neighbor knew it was a simulation and chose to still be a crappy mom that her fake kids even favored the neighbor over her. And they never explained how the kids died, but I'm sure she either killed them (since she seems kind of unattached) or they died from her negligence (drunk driving or she passed out drunk and burned down the house with a cigarette).
The thing is the kids weren’t real, she was just using them as an unhealthy coping mechanism. She probably neglected them because _they weren’t real._
The reason for all of the weird stuff in the first 90 minutes of the movie is pretty easy to understand. It's so the movie can happen.
Amazing
Because money?
Wow wow wow wow wow wow …….wow.
Omg... Never realized that before. 🤯
Fair enough!
The fact that the algorithm is so good to Ryan tells me that Hollywood doesn't realize what a threat this man is

"I thought we could have a 5 minute scene of Harry Styles dancing like a puppet!"
The main thing I remember from this film
what I love about Pitch Meetings is that when the movies are great it's just a good time but when they're... whatever this is... then Pitch Meetings are the best most enjoyable PSA's ever!
The biggest surprise of this film is really that you go in expecting the twist to be one thing, but then it turns out to be exactly that thing you thought it would be and you wonder what the point of it all was. A bold choice by the filmmakers if I’m honest.
The evil plants from The Happening...lol
Unexpected plot twist. Stupidity level 100.
Sometimes the plot can also twist way too far, and then becomes a mobius strip of stupidity...
That's the problem with one-twist "Shyamalan" movies. It's like tantric sex minus the sex. Just one giant, endless tease.
I was expecting/hoping the town of Victory would be on the moon or mars, yet no one was allowed to know except the executives at Victory. A story about colonists without having given consent could have made for an interesting story about being shanghaied and left on a wasteland in space.
That reminds me of Rings of Power and how the character that everything seems to indicate is Sauron turns out to actually be... Sauron.
@@Ratchet2431 The showrunners said Sauron would turn up in an "unexpected way", so up until episode 9 I refused to believe Halbrand could be Sauron because it was so expected.

Soon our language will be nothing more than Ryan's catchphrases. Then we will have... peace.
He left out so much, too. For example, why was Frank taunting Alice? WTF was that scene at the dinner table when Alice said she had it all figured out and then rambled some nonsense? Why would one die in real life if they died in the simulation (such a dumb feature)?

Suit: SERIES OVER.
What's the best movie he made a pitch meeting for? I think a POS movie like don't worry darling basically writes its pitch meeting itself.
@@AndiBraun93 He has made pitch meetings for tons of good movies. So many i cant really remenber any especifics. I could tell you mcu fillms, but opinions may vary about those, or the Harry Potter ones (but they fall apart after the fourth film), so i just gonna remark on the Spider-Verse pitch. That one stuck on me cause he hardly have anything bad to say, thats how good the movie was. That said, i agree that bad movies generally make for better, or at the very least funnier, pitches.
@@pedrovallefin8406 It's weird that you describe the Harry Potter movies as falling apart after the fourth film since, after talking with A LOT of people and reading A LOT of critical reviews, the broad consensus seems to be that 3 and 5 are the best movies and the first 2 are the worst.
@@gracehiggins2666 Is it? Huh. I guess i must be in the minority then. I dont really care about critics and other people's opinions. Its just my personal take. Which admitedly may be a little biased by nostalgia since i havent seem any of these movies in like five years or more. But the 5 movie was always the more boring to me, closely followed by the 6 y 7 that were full of teen drama that feel more like filler than anything else. The fact that the 5 is one of the worst adaptations of them all, cutting a loooot of stuff, only makes this dislike stronger. And the first two movies i found them to be the perfect adaptations. In the sense that, while flawed, they most of the important stuff intact and and maintain the feel of the original better that any other. I really feel the magic in them. Plus, they're charming and simple for all ages stories, just like the books. The other movies tend to go either too far with the darkness (like, literal darkness, some of them feel like the actors werent allowed to see the sun all though filming, or the director was only willing to work on rainy days) or with the teenage aspect. I juat feel they aged rather poorly. Maybe one could say the same about the first two, but i think they're more timeless than dated. Oh, and for sure the third one is the best. It possibly elevates the story its telling, that may not be best of them originally.
I have to say I am super happy I didn't see this one. I can tell I would have been pretty pissed walking out of the theater. Thanks for saving me hours of my life!

With the premise of the movie it seems like it would make more sense to make the simulation like an actual place the characters are like the Truman show with a conditioning element rather than a Virtual Reality where in the real world the husband has to do all the stuff he wants the wife to do in the simulation thus defeating the purpose of what he wanted in the first place.
It’s already been done. Stepford Wives. Wilde just made a shittier version.
There was a decent movie with Jesse Eisenberg that was actually kinda solid.
Vivarium.
Weird movie. Made well.
you know what I just fuckin realized? why would she be in the simulation anyway? this is the life he wants for himself, why wouldn't HE be in the simulation? He doesnt even get toe experience his fantasy! t
Shooshies mate. Don't bring concise and sound logic into this. It's a BiG mOtIoN pIcTuRe
@@hellspawnedhero1123 I was thinking that the whole video!
Oh boy. I knew this was going to be good. This movie was so flawed throughout, I was really looking forward to the Pitch Meeting!❤
@Yura Yuryevich go away bot
For some reason Wilde, who used to be a smoke show, went nuts.
It didn't release my country, I sort of wanted to watch it, not anymore
@@brettbaratheon9776 People aren’t honest with you when you’re that hot, rich, and famous. Easy to get bad friends and information and get led down a bad road. Shame, I liked her before.
@@imallergictobullets Yeah, too bad she couldve dodged all of it if she was at least self critical, instead she fell for her own hubris
I wish they would make more movies like this just so I can watch you review them. That way I don't have to see it. Great job as always. Hilarious.
This is seriously the best and most accurate review of this movie out there.
Producer Guy:"So what's the name of the movie?"
Screenwriter Guy:"Don't worry about darling"
PG:"I have to worry about it. Also, don't call me darling"
SG:"No... nevermind"
Tough questions being asked: Do people not wonder where she went?
And the usual answers: Uhh, not really...
Hey shut up-
1st time hearing of this “movie” and the most I’ll ever watch of it. Thanks Pitch Meeting!
The “I DON’T KNOW??!!” Is back!!! I love it!
With everything I’ve heard about the movie, I’m guessing it’s not a coincidence this pitch has an unprecedented number of people with giant eyes.
The shock treatments may not make the woman forget about her real life, but believe me, I've already forgotten this movie ever existed.
It would be really cool to see pitch meetings for the Jason Bourne movies.
My plot summary
"Weird stuff happens then we find out it wasn't real."
"Is the weird stuff explained though?"
"Nope."
This screenwriter guy is so creative… He comes up with a new story every week! 😮
Agreed, he makes it look super easy, barely an inconvenience.
He always pitches bad scripts but still. Lol
@@goodoldfashionedloverboyy Oh yeah, let me get off that thing!
Oh, coming every week is TIGHT.
@@goodoldfashionedloverboyy Ok. Let me get off that thing!
The She-Hulk Pitch Meeting is going to be so funny
Unlike She-Hulk!
I hope that is next. Then again it would be better if nobody would see a single episode.
It's gonna be a tough one for him to do because it's such a polarising show. I hope he never becomes like CinemaSins who really started giving in to virtue-signalling bullshit.
Good show!
@@Bendrix27 too much money in it.
Oh my god, I just realized that the producer guy and screenwriter kept saying the word "worry" a lot because the movie is called "Don't WORRY Darling."
Man, I really need to pay more attention to the title of these movies that I'm never gonna watch and just watch the Pitch Meeting videos for.
I don't know if you've always had the "Hey shut up" but I love it!
I've never heard of this movie, I have no intention of ever thinking about it again but I'm really glad I watched this Pitch Meeting!
Just watch The Stepford Wives if you haven't yet. That movie has the same vibes, but with an actually digestible plot.
That twist at the end of this video seems far better than the twist in the movie.
I hope we can get a Princess Bride Pitch Meeting sometime in the future. That would be very much appreciated.
Edit: Ryan has picked apart awesome films before like Logan, Lord of the Rings, and Jurassic Park. He can totally do this film too.
Inconceivable.
@@sidearmsalpha Actually, it'd be super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
@@301.allday True but this movie is a classic with a devoted following. There's way more crap out there that deserves to get trashed by Ryan.
Producer: Tell me about this movie thing
Writer: As you wish, sir!
That would be THIGHT!
Well, that's another razzie you've saved me from watching but still gave me some entertainment out of. Thanks Pitch Meetings! Love you Ryan and your beautiful blue eyes.
Just watched it. Hilarious. 'Hey shut up!' LOL
How would her being in that state be traditional. She won't be able to cook, clean or be intimate with him and he'd have to cook, clean, take care of her body while she's in the simulation and earn money for them. It's almost as if this movie focused more on a message than, you know, internal logic.
I haven't watched anything other than the reviews/reactions, but it would have made sense if they explained that Frank had a service going for that (nurses or maids taking care of comatose people), and the husbands going off to work every day is actually them being in charge of recruiting/radicalizing other young men. You know, like they are the underlings of some terrorist organization. Sort of what happened in The Village, wealthy guy has the means to secure a state park sized perimeter in that movie.
Yes. So he wants a housewife but instead he got a woman in a coma that he then needs to take care for. What? Lol
@@xsanguine8 I got the vibe that he had to do both. Care for his wife and recruit more men. I think that's what the promotion rings and Frank's "work hard, play hard" quote meant.
The “everything is NOT as it seems” and the “oh…….. oh my god” sent me over the edge dude
I was honestly surprised how hard that one made me laugh! I even had to rewind it a couple times 😂
Me, too. The line I was expecting was something like "......can we do that?", but this was just as good.
5:09 Perfection
Thank you Ryan for, once again, saving me from a movie I considered watching!
Wow Wow Wow….wow. This might be favorite Pitch Meeting yet. He mentioned EVERY thought I had during the movie - 90min of weird things happening with no answers and 1,000 questions at the end.
Someone forgot to tell Wilde that twist movies need more going on than just the one twist. It's like the longest dad joke ever.
You SAW this? I’ve never heard of it hmmm 🤔
But really, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE PLANE???
I wanna know why Gemma Chan went from fiercely defending her husbands actions to stabbing him with a kitchen knife. Did she know the whole time?
"Don't worry darling" was what the real screenwriter said when they asked him if he found an ending to the story yet.
You summarized a big piece of why I don’t like movies like this. They are just a string of weird things happening with little explanation. It feels like writers ask what would be an interesting thing to happen in a weird movie then they came up wirh a story
The pitch meeting for this film was infinitely more entertaining than the actual film... WOW WOW WOW...... WOW
“It feels like a movie.” Hahah the way Chris Pine looked so annoyed when Harry said that hahaha
"Oh its a cartoon!" Yes, that scene is. Nowadays, the more action there is in a film, the more animation disguised as real-life movies are.
I feel like you missed a perfect opportunity to say "Don't worry about it... Darling"
