    Well done, to paraphrase my flying instructor‘it’s always better to be down here wishing you were up there, than being up there wishing you were down’.

      Yes, sometimes I get caught out but always glad when I get through it. In the end, the experience all adds up. I suppose it's the same with flying?

      @@ChasingSnow yes it’s similar but in flying training you spend a lot time practicing emergencies so that hopefully when one does occur you apply the correct response and are not phased by it. It took me quite a while to know when to stop skiing at the end of the day, it was all too easy say just one more run and then find out you were more tired than you thought, usually ending up catching an edge and taking a tumble.

    • @ChasingSnow

      @@garyhill9723 that's so true and why it took so long to get down, I just wasn't mentally and physically prepared. It's on another level when in the air though, you wouldn't have time to stand there and think, it would have to come as a kind of natural reflex. What kind of plane do you fly?

      @@ChasingSnow I started flying gliders, moved on to single engine piston planes flying a variety of planes including aerobatics aircraft. Ultimately work got in the way of the fun and I let my licence lapse. These days I fly rc planes and helicopters.

      @@garyhill9723 OK, sounds like to had some good experience, shame about the licence though rc also sounds fun. As a child it was a dream, I wanted to build my own rc plane.

    Love watching you cut through the powder bumps on the intermediate slope. I'm guessing the bumps on the steep slope were older and harder.

    • @ChasingSnow
      @ChasingSnow  Před rokem +1

      That was my first powder day with my long, fast and stable skis that aren't the most manoeuvrable but cut through bumps quite well, as long as they are not too large... as then I'll need to be more manoeuvrable. I really like those skis but they have their limits, so steep with large bumps are not something they handle too well.

    awesome! Well done, I'm afraid I'd KNOW I'd made a mistake and be wondering if I was about to break a leg right at the end of the season!%

      Haha, yeah, it was much easier the first time on powder.

      No, just some technical issues. We arrived on 16th in ValTho and by the time we got to the area on Tuesday it was already closed. Matter of fact it is still closed these days. Longer queues at Cote Brune...

    I know the feeling 😃. When my sons where chasing down those kind of slopes - with much shorter skis - I had to meditate how to do it and cursing myself why I did follow them 😝. How long are your skis and what is your wheight if I may ask ?
    Thanks for the nice videos. I enjoy them a lot.

    • @ChasingSnow
      @ChasingSnow  Před rokem

      Exactly, that's the problem, my big long skis are not suited for short sharp turns. I'm about 177cm tall & 85kg, skis that day are 189cm long, 107mm under foot. They are excellent for stability and speed, cut through small to medium bumps easily but for big and steep moguls, I need shorter skis.

    • @manuquickie
      @manuquickie Před rokem +1

      @@ChasingSnow waw, 189cm is indeed long for your size. But it explains why you can ski faster and longer than other skiers.
      Next year I'm retired and I like to stay longer periods in the Alps. How do you do it ? Renting or do you have a motorhome ?

    • @ChasingSnow
      @ChasingSnow  Před rokem

      @@manuquickie Yes, they are very good for speed and stability along with my other preferred skis, which are 183cm and 105mm under foot. This season I had three pairs, the last are 180cm with 100mm under foot but they are not stable once I exceed high 80kph to 90kph though easier in powder. Usually, when in Switzerland I get accommodation for a month in Martigny-Combe or Sierre and travel to the resorts. This season I spent most of the time in my camper (Van life). I stay with friends when I can and get accomodation every now and then. I also had the Magic Pass (CHF399) and Pass-Saint-Bernard+Verbier (CHF199) to give me access to many ski resorts.

      @@ChasingSnow Wow nice life you have ,,👌. I just started skiing again (indoors) after a break of 10 years. Before we went 2-3 weeks a year to the Alps. Now I hope to be in shape again next winter.
      VanLive in winter looks challenging to me. Do you have videos on that subject ?

    • @ChasingSnow
      @ChasingSnow  Před rokem

      Well, good to see you are getting back into skiing. I think you'll have a great time back in the Alps. No videos of Vanlife and this is the first time I actually did it for most of the season. Still getting used to it and still working on finishing my van but it served its purpose. It's off-grid so the biggest issues I have is with making the videos, I need fast internet to upload videos and sufficient power to make the videos. Other than that, still working on having regular showers. But it's comfortable to sleep in and gets a bit too warm with the diesel heater.
