    I have no idea why I'm here, I have absolutely no interest in ballet, but I just got a very wholesome feeling from this video.     What's amazing is that they're already strong enough to do the jump. It would probably only take them a month or so to really hone in on the technique. Ballerinas are amazing!

      Yes, I agree. I think they're used to graceful movement so they're not focusing on generating momentum via power and really forcing their hips to turn with the leg.
      If they just imagined something annoying to kick at I'm sure they'd all nail it. 😂

    I love that the ballet teacher does this. All types of styles regardless of gender styles should be taught. Never know when there is a lack of dancers in performances and someone has to step in (happened to me for a dance show, someone didn’t show up, and I had to step in their place to learn their moves).

    I noticed that a lot of them were doing a ballet leg lift, more than a kick. As in, their upper half, was still vertical. They weren't leaning their body with the kick. That's why the dude's kick looks graceful like a swan, and theirs didn't.

      I think I get it, I'm far from a pro dancer but I learned ballet for years and the vertical posture stayed with me, I had a skating lesson and fell many times because I forgot to lean forward x,D

      Female ballet kind of selects against female jumpers as you need extra muscle for it, not the lean long legs you need to get into a pro ballet school as a female.
      Yes they still jump but not like the boys can.

      As someone who has done neither ballet or karate… it seems like they could go well together! Ballet is all about control and grace (from a noob perspective) and seems like it would be a great addition to any training you would do for Karate.
      Or a great addition to almost any other sport TBH.

      I had to quit ballet young because of an accident and my academy had like no male students (small town) I've always wondered when the differences in training start, age-wise. I can't find much info on it (and fun fact right now I'm writing a thing that has that as an important plot point). You wouldn't happen to know anything about that?

      As a former martial artist, this is exactly what I thought! The men’s jumps were very reminiscent of the jumping or “flying” kicks in Tae Kwon-Do.

    In the first exercise, none of the girls kicked. They dragged their leg, without bending it for an effective kick. If you kick in the spin, you can get an even more effective spin, than when dragging a straight leg through the spin.

    This is so similar to the kicks I learned in martial arts as a kid. I was in ballet too. Really helps with the lift in your jump.

    Most ppl look like crap the first time or 2 they try something. Every attempt gets better. The first leg is what you focus on. It stays bent. Then just follow with the second leg and just lift it up as it follows the first. Excellent ladies! Do it more! ❤❤❤

    i really like this video because sports like dance and gymnastics are heavily gender split and so its nice to see dancers utilise and learn skills which are often used by the other gender ❤❤

    For a 540 you need to land on the leg you set off on, but still a nice kick. We just call it "turn", the kids love doing them.

    I love the comparison to the "male gymnasts try women's gymnastics moves". It really showcases the ways that these high end performances have been optimized for the different male and female body styles. The hip to shoulder ratios, and above/below waist body mass differences, really change how people move

    I used to do these is my MMA classes 😂. We called them tornado kicks lol.
    When i was part of the demo team we spent a soild hour doing only these in unison.

    these girls are doing this really well. Imagine they would drop one ballet session for one martial arts session per week. Looks like it would train their muscles in a whole different way. And on the side, they learn to defend themselves :D

    _Switchism_ is always so delightful!🙃 Not only because it' s fun but because it helps to realize even more of how tremendously difficult are some things that we take for granted (not this specific case, this is difficult here and in the neighbouring galaxy😅). Switching "genderelements", apparatus or disciplines is eye opening, a reality bite of humility, and a masterclass of male/female biomechanics.     I love how even when they are trying to do the "boy kick" you can see them instinctively moving their arms like a ballerina when doing the turns to then jump and kick
