Jeez, this reviewer pulled out the thesaurus big time on this one.
Starting a video game review with "When I die. .." is rather odd.
"games journalism"
lol thought the same thing
Yeah before I he finished I thought, danm, it's that bad?
Emo confirmed.
Really? It's how I start everyday..!
Didn't have to say anything, other than the last sentence "In a word, Abzu is Beautiful."
Abzulutely gorgeous.
W I liked that man haha
I sea what you did there
It will be interesting to see peaceful and meditative games like this having the potential to be used as therapy tools for people.
the real question is... do the fish swim away from you? otherwise it's not current gen
lol
As much as I saw: THEY DO
Like COD ghost fishes? LoL
Yes. they are fish ai
Yeah if you swim through a school of fish, they all move out of your way.
Nice to see a game like Abzu to relax to, instead of the blood &gore all the time.
With a bit higher res textures this looks like it might be a great VR game
Ok... I need some help.
There has been two glitches on my ABZU.
First is that in the 3rd area I saw a ray... Outside of the boundries. I took a quick picture and moved on.
The second glitch was a game over glitch. Basically I was playing through again and I had just picked it up to play. I got to the place where the shark eats one of your buddies and I wasn't paying attention. But when I looked back I still had all three. BUT THE CAMERA WASN'T MOVING. I took some pictures and a video for proof. I then reset.
Can anyone explain what's happening?
Just finished this beautiful and memorizing piece of art. While only 3 hours long and fairly simplistic, it's truly breathtaking, enjoyable, memorable, and relaxing.
Lovely game..
So beautiful, particularly nearing the end..
Gonna have to play Journey again..
To see if I still prefer it..
When you meditate at a statue can you control the creatures around you or do you just watch them as they swim
You scroll from fish to fish but you can't control them. Just watch. you can rotate the camera around them though which is nice.
You're not playing as aquaman haha
Is the game or GameSpot using the Tomb Raider jingle / song?
Bought this game after this review for my kid,. He relaxed completely when he play this game, thank u
LOVE this game and it plays great on the Xbox One X. The beautiful underwater locations reminds me of Ecco the Dolphin for the Sega Dreamcast and Endless Ocean on the Nintendo Wii. This game was part of Xbox's 2018 Spring Sale and I am glad I picked it up. Simple beautiful!
is there a demo for this??
How long is this game?
From what I saw, I believe that was a Humpback Whale, not a Blue Whale :3. Could be wrong, just something I noticed from the brief screen time. Great review man!
Fantastically written review. Keep up the good work.
I finished this last night and yes it is beautiful. I loved it.
I never thought I would ever play a game that could out journey journey, but here you are. This game is pure unfiltered arousal for the eyes. Absolute art in motion.
But can I 360 no scope?
Reminds me on eco the dolphin on Dreamcast, also an extraordinary experience ...
I can't wait to play this game!
What an opening line. Brilliantly written!
i think they should a spoiler alert to this review, its such a short game and they already showed a lot from it
now that a kind of a game i play when i have a bad day
It's basically Flow, Flower, and Journey combined into one game. Except it isn't a Sony exclusive this time around, so more people get to experience the wonder.
what system
Great review.
Great review Scott. Been looking forward to a chilled relaxing game. Make a change from all the murder sims and driving like a loon
This game is indeed beautiful
We need this as a VR game
Great review
This game is the most beautiful game I've ever played
Did any1 else think that was the Tomb Raider music at the start of the video? lol
It’s a little like Subnautica, minus the occasional panic-inducing terror and survival mechanics. Nice
urmm he say that this game have a battle(fight with the shark?) but there is no single clip showing the battle scene.
Probably doesn't want to spoil it.
But2. K fine
Well I've completed it, and there is no such battle. There are no real enemies in the game and you can't die.
Adolf Shitler
Awww i thought it would be like in the movie The Shallows... :/
Mr. Popo I wish! lol
whats the price tag? looks fantasyic but doesnt seem like it justifies a £60 price. hopefully its aloy cheaper?
looks like Salvador Dali's painting . Awesome !!!!!
very much like subnautica but feels closer to earth
i love subnautica with all my heart and abzu seems to tickle my pickle too
It looks fantastic
I felt sorry for those who have "thallasophobia" that they have fear to play this game.
I beat this in 1:40 man I waited 12:30 hrs for this yeah it's beautiful and amazing but shit I want more
I need this in vr
strange yet adorable robots
Alright I'm gonna make a game with a neat art style and incredibly soothing atmosphere and I'll get a 9 on GameStop see you guys in 6 years
You won't even manage to program pong
+Ahmed Faraz He is is props pointing out that making all of this stuff actually takes a lot of work and dedication... that or he is planning to do it during his free time :P
I already preordered your game Kappa
This is on pc?
ye
I'm so playing this after smoking weed.
This looks nice. Would have rather got this for free with ps plus then what we are getting. How much is this?
£15
yeah ill def get this but ill wait for a price drop.
The true question I guess would be is it worth 5 dolaridos?
gamespot is a much higher caliber than IGN
At first I thought it was the Tomb Raider music.
As soon as this video started, I thought the same thing. The beginning sounds almost identical!
This is stunning. PC?
Yup
DarkSharingan21 I meant to ask is it on PC, oops. Maybe he understood.
yeah its on steam and W10store
Tekkon Cheers
When is it out on PC?
also play Subnautica ^^
Hoping for an NES port !!!
this with VR will be beauty.....)_)
Thoughts short comings are not inconsequential, graphics and textures that basic are going
to make a large difference in getting people to buy this. With out a large improvement in this area I for one would not buy it. With all that being said it look like it could be a very nice experience and the musical score is sounding like it has been well done so long as
it is not limited to just as few pieces. It has potential.
SO AWESOME
very dope
nice
masterpiece
3:25 scared the shit out of me when I was playing
HOW U PLAY??? It isnt out yet for me?
@GuitarKid218 Ayy nice Periphery pic man! New album is fucking awesome. and yeah that bit scared me just from watching this video lol
***** Ikr, I've listened to PIII over 10 times now, but I still don't think it's better than PII, still amazing though
in the end you have to find dory
yeah
love it
finding dory
ecco the dolphin, anyone?
damn good reviewer!
I wish I had a ps4 😯
So your a scuba diver?
I've been thoroughly enjoying this game, it's beautiful, relaxing, surprising & my BiffaBoys (my two boys as I call them on my YT channel) love it too. Swimming with dolphins, whales and sharks, discovering & unlocking new fish...what's not to love! :-)
Is it bad I'm scared to play this game? Like can you die in this game?
Dammit I hope it comes to xbox eventually..
I thought it was on Xbox
Sadly it's a ps4 and PC exclusive. Most of the great indie games are these days.
Alexander LeBlanc Nope it's now confirmed to be releasing on xbox one and Ps4 in a retail version
Has been confirmed to come to Xbox one thanks to a retail version On Ps4 and Xbox one coming January
Big Daddy Awesome news, thanks!

no man's sea!
I'm not saying this or Journey are not good or a true work of art. But as a gamer and as someone that thinks art should compliment a game rather than being the main attraction, I disagree with the games very high praise they recieve. Reminds me of boring movies that are revered by critics
Vincent Vorone I agree. The art is beautiful. But it's sooo boring.. the impact of the beauty of the game is gone after the first 30 minutes.. it could be a so much better with good puzzles, secrets yo find, collectibles, etc.. it would be like an endless ocean but beautiful
Someone tell me what you are supposed to do? Just swim around and look?
theres a story but id spoil you if id tell you anything...
+De4dc4t I aint gon buy it, can you spoil it for me?
idk spoil plz. Wtf is it about
+Peter Klit (Gaming Content and More) Ok so your bassically the only one of your kind and have to find out what happend to your "race". You constantly run into a great white shark which at first looks scary and "evil" but as you continue the story you learn that he isnt bad...You rescue him and you become "friends".As the story continues you come into more dangerous areas in which exploding triangles are scattered around the ocean. You enter a giant facility in which you see robots being made. These robots were friendly towards you at first. You continue and the shark sacrifices himself and everything explodes! You finally see what you are. a robot. You continue onwards to see the shark dying right before you. 'You actually feel quite sad...'. You continue to find a hidden city made by your ancesters in which there are dinosour fish and other gone species. As you progress you return to the hub "galaxy". There is a new bubble in the middle which you touch. The shark appears and swims around you ,then he heads into a red glowing abbyss. You follow him and end up in a colorful paradise destroyed by the triangles...you and the shark are both glowing like spirits. youre now united. You destroy the triangles together and bring back The ecosytem. It end with an epic ending in which you both swim into an eye of a ginat robotic triangle. It explodes and nature takes back everything its lost to them...youve created a paradise... SPOILER my personal review: this game is prop. the most beautifull i have ever played in months if not years...its one of the first times i felt real emotions in a game 9-10/10
SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED!
The game is about your voyage to uncover the mystery of what happened to an ancient civilization and you are presumed to be the last of their kind. A Great White Shark leads your journey and the two of you form a bond. However, you and the great white shark stumble across these robot pyramid enemies and you end up going into their territory. In the robot pyramid territory, you uncover a shocking truth. you learn that you are not part of the ancient civilization and that you are actually a product of the robot pyramid enemies and you were helped to wipe out the ancient civilization. Once you find out about the truth, the robot pyramid enemies attack you and they end up killing your shark friend. After a while of exploring, you stumble across the temples of the ancient civilization. In the temples, you find a way to revive the Great white shark, while also gaining the power to fight back against the robot pyramid enemies. You go back to their territory to bring peace back to the ocean once again.
The game told this story with no words, nameless characters, and in a 2-3 hour campaign. with only pictures. This game deserves the 9/10 I would even say that its 10/10
make it vr or no deal
9/10
This game is getting so overhyped, yeah it's pretty but it's only about 2 hours long and surprisingly was way to linear. Once you beat the game, there is no free roam type of game mode, which shocked me. This is NOT an exploration game like it is advertised.
That blue whale looks suspiciously like a humpback whale........
Just dive dive dive.
we need categories for this shit. i can understand how this is a 9 and how witcher is a 9 but come on, they are 2 comepletely different things
It’s free
I just don't understand. Games like this and Journey or the walking simulator stuff just seem pointless to me. If people like it then that's great I guess. But a 9/10? IGN gave it an 8... There's nothing to do but look at stuff. Maybe its because graphics aren't a major factor in if I buy a game? Actually everything else is irrelevant to me next to gameplay. Oh well. I just don't get it.
👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾😀
Abs in a Japanese accent
SPOILERALERT
Thanks for the review, but this feels like a poorly remade Ecco from dreamcast with no environmental or npc dangers. The human breaching the water like a dolphin with a flip...yeah thats from a 20 year old game. I'll be saving some money skipping this and playing my dreamcast.
9? Freaking 9?!
No way to fail, no combat, no audio logs, no story, no challenge, completely linear, very short, no replay value.
But it looks pretty and has fish AI
9/10. For a game with no gameplay... k den.
No combat or audio logs? Not everything needs to be Doom or Call of Duty to be a game you know..That's the problem with this mindset. You are subjectively choose aspects of certain games to qualify what ever makes a game, well a game to YOU. Games are a virtual experience. That experience can be dealt in limitless ways and does not need to rehash or use formulas from other experiences to justify itself. If every game had "Audio logs" lol and "Combat" I think that literally puts a limit on the market. Maybe just maybe, the game isn't for you? That's ok, it really is. Some games rely on emotional relativity. Some are action packed with button intensity. Hell some are even great mind games.. This one happens to be simple, relaxed, and visually focused. I love Journey and Mortal Kombat just as much as I love Bloodborne or Halo 3. Variety is a good thing man. Now quit slamming shit just because you don't think it has characteristics to make it a game in your eyes.
Yeah just like Uncharted 4, look at how well that scored. Simplistic games are always overrated, makes you wonder how out of touch gaming journalism is nowadays.
+Pro Instincts Uncharted had a great story, amazing voice acting, decent combat and interesting puzzles.
+BBQ Ted Sure not every game needs those things, but what does this replace them with? Nothing.
If other games were this devoid of content, they'd get ripped to shreds, but this gets a 9 for being 'artsy'.
I personally value aspects of a game in this order (least to most important): Presentation, Story, Polish, Gameplay. This is because games are defined by their interactivity, it's what separates them from every other medium.
Maybe I wouldn't have such a problem if this wasn't £13 for 2 hours!
This is why 'artistic' videogames are far more subjective (and unfortunately get more hate than they deserve as a result). A heap of gamers think if it doesn't follow a particular formula, it has to get shit reviews thrown at it.
Personally, I think the main consensus for scoring any game in particular should be based on what it sets out to do, and just how well it does it. This game doesn't set out to necessarily challenge you in the same way as other games do, so much as it inspires you to explore and to interpret the in-game world around you in your own way. That, whilst evoking emotion from the player through the setting and the music, which for some it will, for others it won't. I love games like this because they don't follow this formula you're talking about. It's something a gamer can play just to experience a new world in their own time, and just to take a break from other games that say 'go here' or 'do this'. It doesn't break gaming conventions, it just doesn't follow them as closely.
1000th like
A better game than dark souls 3
Theyre like actually opposites tho
I'm curious how no mans sky will be reviewed when games like this exist, and are acclaimed. No mans sky basically aims to scratch the same itch, but on an infinitely larger scale, and with actual gameplay.
I feel like a handcrafted 2 hour experience works better than 50 hours of procedurally generated stuff. And let's not get started on NMS' gameplay loops.
If these shitty style-witthout-substance games like Inside and now this garbage keep getting free passes, they will spell abrupt doom for this industry. Sad day for gaming.
At least in Inside there were puzzles and a sense of challenge!
At least there's no DLC
At least it's not a reskin of any game.
At least it's not a re-skin version of any other game.
At least it's not a re-skin version of any other day game.
Completed it in 2 hours and was not impresed, journeyis much much better, this worth 5€ maximum...
but some people pay more money for shorter movies, so...
Too much water. Oh wait.....
so a game without any real gameplay, it last only 2 hours, it costs f* 15 euros for the 2 hours you play it is getting a f* 9 out of 10??? what the actual... you dont do sh*t, you f* swim from a to b and press a couple buttons 😂 wtf is wrong with todays gamers 😂😂
I fell asleep watching this...sooooo....probably not the game for me.
the nms review better be a 9
Spoilers - It won't be. And if it is, I'll eat my space helmet and implode!
well then
lol
Beautiful game would play it if it was free
